5150 Hybrid = HR 10U Parrent parent

Pros: Really good bat, my son has several mid-high end bats and this one doesn't disappoint. My 10yr old got his first ever HR swinging the 29/19. Seems a little end loaded rather than balanced he's swung 5150 for 4 years

Cons: Has a little more vibration on mis-hits than other hybrid bats we have besides that the neon yellow grip is gonna need to be replaced with a darker lizard skin just looks terrible after a few weeks.

Disappointed Parent parent

Pros: Great pop and balance

Cons: Had bat less than 1 month and the handle collapsed down in the barrel. Sent in for return and received a Rawlings Prodigy (Paid over $200 5150, can buy Prodigy for less than $100). Very disappointed in bat. Even more disappointed in Rawlings.

Great Bat Stiker18 parent

Pros: I was a little afraid of buying this bat, but I had heard several people talking about how good it was. I have a 9year old who has been swinging a Mako and he needed a new bat. I refused to buy a $350 bat, so we went with the Rawlings Hybrid. This bat is really good and has alot of pop. I had parents asking me where I got it from, because the other kids were using it. Great bat and I am very happy with it.

Cons:

Big bang for the buck Mack parent

Pros: I have a 65lb. 8 year old playing 10U travel. He is undersized and under powered. He has always been a contact hitter but now he is ringing the 225 fence. I don't know if its confidence or the pop of the bat but its worth every penny.

Cons: everyone on the team is using his bat and its got a dent in the barrel.

Don't buy Troy coach

Pros: Good pop

Cons: Bat dents quickly and then cracks. Also have had two separate between composite handle and alloy barrel. Basically the handle now periscopes sown inside the barrel. My son has cracked one- hitting nothing, but baseballs and his replacement separated. Have has an additional player's bat separate. No warranty on the replacement bat they sent. Two broken bats for one player three total and only half way thru season. Do not buy!

Is this similar to the Mach II? ck
The 5150 alloy featured on the 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL5R34) is a higher grade than on the Mach II and it has a bit better balanced feel.
Patrick
Does the bat need to be broken in? jeff
No, the 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL5R34) will be game ready right out of the wrapper. Only composite barrel bats will require a break-in period.
John
Is this the 2016 version of the Rawlings Prodigy Hybrid? Is it just paint scheme differences? Is there any swing weight differences? choche
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL5R34 and the 2016 Rawlings Prodigy Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: SLRP34 are two different product lines that Rawlings has produced for 2016. The 5150 will be a two-piece alloy design comprised of aerospace-grade 5150 with a composite handle. The Prodigy will be a one-piece alloy design featuring a different version of their aerospace alloy. Swing weight will be similar but typically customers will find the weight balance of the 5150 to be more to their liking.

Does the 5150 hybrid replace the 2015 Prodigy? Is it made with the same alloy and composite materials? CoachR
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL5R34 is going to be very similar to the Rawlings 2015 Prodigy -10 Big Barrel Baseball Bat. Both of these bats have the hybrid construction with the composite handle and alloy barrel. The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL5R34 will feature a higher grade of alloy (5150) when compared to the 2015 Prodigy though.

How does this bat compare to the DeMarini CF8? T
This 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL5R34) will be a single-piece, all-alloy bat while the CF8 models will be two-piece, all-composite bats. Despite that difference, both bats will come with balanced swing weights.
Ben
Looking for a new bat for 2016 season. My son has been swinging the DeMarini CF7 was looking at the CF8 now but looking at the new Rawlings line up. Could you recommend your choice between the Rawlings VELO and the 5150? Also could you recommend a bat size? He is 4'8" 110 lbs. He is always 3 or 4 in the lineup. Travis
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend that your son swing a 30" bat. As for the 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SLVR10 or the 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat: SL5R10, I would say that the bats are awfully similar (one-piece, alloy design). Both bats feature very balanced swing weight distribution, bu the 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SLVR10 will be a little bit more balanced and feel like a lighter swing weight due to the Comp-Lite composite end cap. This Comp-lite end cap is going to help remove unnecessary weight and improve balance.
Nick
Hey my son (10U) has never hit a two piece bat before. He has hit with Easton MAKO composite and now swings the new Louisville Slugger. Those both required a break-in. I was wondering if this bat does and how does the pop or power compare with these other bats? Also, main difference why two piece or one piece? Rich Hill
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL5R34) is a two-piece hybrid which means it has an alloy barrel and composite handle. Since it has an alloy barrel there will be no break-in period necessary. The 5150 alloy barrel is a high quality alloy and offers pretty good pop and performance. People generally choose two-piece because they are able to dissipate vibration a bit better which makes them more comfortable. Additionally, two-piece bats offer more flex than one-piece bats which is desired by contact hitters.
Jake
How is this bat in cold weather? greg
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL5R34 is constructed from alloy and will tend to hold up better in colder weather than a composite bat. To help give this bat better performance in colder weather it would be wise to try and keep the barrel warm with either a bat sleeve or placing a space heater in the dugout.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
