They Have done it AGAIN StanWroteYouButYouAintCallin11 player

Pros: Just as good as last year. Apparently they addressed the handle twist issue. Can't wait to keep dropping bombs and hitting dingers.

Cons: None...it better last longer than the old one, but who cares since it is the best composite two piece you can buy.

returned twice JCJR parent

Pros: the factory was nice when i returned it twice.

Cons: i had issues with lose handle and it sounded dead. LS replaced it because they are a great company. Within a week the handle went loose again and it makes a different sound. No pop. Never again. I am sure LS will figure out some way to make me happy but this is a terrible bat

handle came loose highly disappointed parent

Pros: feels and looks great like the lizard skin grip too nice balanced feel

Cons: handle came loose and connection piece after one game. 2017 did not seem to have the same pop as my 2016 but maybe it was due to the handle. Just bats would not allow it to be returned for refund said i had to go through LS directly. LS agreed the bat was defective after sending it to them but would not refund. they would only issue a "warranty voucher" basically a credit for a new bat but my son nor i have confidence in this bat. also they said its only good for a bat so if we drop down and get an omaha we cannot use the remaining 150 credit for anything else we just lose it. very disappointed with this service on both ends. we should be able to get a refund on a defective bat thats only one week old.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Prime 917 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9178? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

(1) My son is 13, 5'2" and 93 lbs. (2) What size bat would be best for him? (3) What temperature is too cold for this bat? Tim
(1) Based upon your player's height and weight, my length recommendation would be for a 31" bat. (2) At 13 years old, this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP9178) would be a good selection as it has a -8 length-to-weight ratio which will help him prepare for a -3 BBCOR bat he will have to use in high school (31"/23 oz should be a good size). (3) I would recommend ceasing practice use of this bat at 55 degrees. However, you can still use it in a game if the game temperature is below 55 degrees. Just make sure the use is limited to just your player.

What is the biggest difference between 917 and 916? Is this bat series end loaded or balanced? Also, does this bat compare favorably to the Cat 7 and Mako or is there a big gap in quality? TC
The main difference between the 916 and the new 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP9178) is the new MicroForm Composite and the New Improved TRU3 Connection which is going to be more durable than the 916's connection point. And yes, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 is a very comparable to the Mako and the Cat 7 in quality. All three are high end, very good bats. The 916 and 917 have been extremely popular and well received bats.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
