Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Miken Freak Patriot Maxload ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: FPATMA? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Looking for the best bat for a power hitter for the 2017 season. ASA approved. 52 core. I currently have the original miken triad and love it. Time for an upgrade. Thanks for input. Gbombs5
Based on what you are looking for I would go ahead and recommend the 2017 Miken Freak Patriot Maxload ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (FPATMA) or the 2017 Miken PSYCHO SuperMax USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SYKDTE).
Carter
I am 70 year old, tourney player with some power. My league is ASA and uses a 44/400 ball. Would you recommend this bat? Jim
Unfortunately, no bats available on the market are being designed for use with a 40 COR / 400 Compression ball any longer. Any bat that is used with that style of ball will be subject to a little bit of a durability risk. However, since those balls are harder, any bat will display great performance if used together with those balls. If you like a slight end-load on your bat, I would recommend this 2017 Miken Freak Patriot Maxload ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (FPATMA) very highly in regard to getting good performance.
Ben
Does the 2017 patriot come in 25oz? wk
No, the smallest size that the 2017 Miken Freak Patriot Maxload ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (FPATMA) comes in is going to be 25 ounces.
Carter
My league still uses the .44/375 core balls. Will this bat hold up to use with these balls? Jason Howe
Unfortunately, the ASA bats are really only meant to handle balls with a compression of 300 or less. Because of that, this Miken Freak Patriot Maxload ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (FPATMA) could be at a risk to break if it was used with a 372 COR ball.
Ben
Except for cosmetics, is this bat exactly the same construction, quality, and functionality as the Miken Limited Freak USA Maxload ASA Border Battle Model 2-Piece Adult Slowpitch Softball Bat, the 2019 Miken Freak Primo Maxload ASA bat, 2017 Miken Freak Platinum, the Miken Freak Maxload 20th Anniversary Edition ASA bat, and the Miken Freak Patriot ASA bat? The only difference I can see other than cosmetics is that the Primo us a 4 piece bat, though that could simply be a change in how it is marketed rather than an actual construction evolution. Mike
Yes, there is very limited change in the bats that you mentioned as they all use Miken's 100 COMP design for the composite material. The bats are generally only different in cosmetics or how many pieces they are made of. The more pieces, the more flex and whip it will have in the swing. Fewer pieces means a bit less flex, but a stiffer feel and more solid feel at contact. The barrel length is also slightly different on some models, indicated by the 12" vs 14" often listed on Miken bats.

About the Brand

During the past few years, serious softball players have looked to Miken Sports for bats that provide the highest levels of performance and durability. Our relentless focus on both technology and the demands of players has made Miken the most demanded line of softball bats today.

Although composites are the latest trend in softball bats, the technology has been the core of Miken's success since the company's inception. Miken pioneered the modern high-performance composite softball bat in 1998 and has pushed the limits with every model since. No other bat company has driven innovation as hard, and the results are indisputable. Look around. If a player is serious about softball, they are most likely swinging a Miken bat.

The success of Miken Sports has been driven by two forces - innovation and a passion for delivering what players demand. The results are obvious. Players have decided that composites are the future for bats, and no one does composite like Miken.
