So far so good Misty parent

Pros: Great pop. My son like the grip of the handle.

Cons: No cons yet. We've only had the bat a short time. Only time will tell if it's more durable than the 2016 model..

Rawlings? patrick parent

Pros: Who would've thought Rawlings would make better youth big barrel bats than easton and DeMarini. Great for 7u/8u light swing weight and big barrel.

Cons: Whole team wants to use it.

Total Junk Jamie coach

Pros: It's a -11

Cons: Everything else. I've now had 2 of these and a 3rd one is being sent. Both bats dented after just a few hits. This was an 8 year old hitting coach pitch and the bat looks like someone was swinging at a steel pole for a month. The worst part is that I can't get my money back. Rawlings is just offering a credit toward another bat and unfortunately the next bat up is 4x the price! Total bait and switch. Stay away from this bat and away from Rawlings in general. I used to be such a big fan. No longer.

So far so good Tx Tornado parent

Pros: My barely 7 year old loves it. Feels light, looks cool. Fine for the little one. I'm sure he'll dent it soon, when he starts putting a decent swing on the ball. But for the time being, he loves it and wants to use it, so I'm fine with it. He's hitting the ball into the outfield with it, and has no trouble getting around on the ball. The price is good.

Cons: I can tell it's very thin. I suspect that once the little guy starts getting his hips and hands through with some authority he's probably gonna dent it up. That's okay. It doesn't seem like it's going to be durable. Time will tell I suppose.

Great bat but durability an issue stephen brown parent

Pros: light weight, great pop, good looking

Cons: durbility, toughness. With my son being a little on the smaller size I was really excited to get this bat because of the drop 11 it was perfect for him to maintain bat speed and the pop is really good. I noticed, however, that only after a few weeks of having it that it has many dents. Wish it would've held up a little better. My son is playing in 7u and doesn't have a ton of power, at least to ruin a bat after such a short time frame.

rawlings 5150 D. Waters parent

Pros: bat feels awesome! the balanced feel made the biggest difference in world. the -11 drop is just what he needed.

Cons: second practice into coach pitch it has already dented up pretty bad. He is only 7 and isn't a big kid at all. I am not throwing hard pitches either. Really disappointed in the durability of this bat. maybe 60 hits total and already dented up.

Terrible Bat Jonathan coach

Pros: Lightweight

Cons: Terrible Durability. My 8 year old son used it ONCE in practice and it had so many dents it looked like someone beat it with a hammer. You get what you pay for with this bat.

7/8 League kid pitch /coach pitch bat Ben Falls coach

Pros: good contact. high averages. My kid is a first year 'bubble' player and he's hitting .555 with this thing. It's a fun bat and I wish we had these in the 90's.

Cons: false awesomeness. since you hit everything with this huge barrel, the kids have a tendency to play "whack a mole" versus being selective and being attentive to form. I switched my son out of this and into a thinner Easton Speed just so he can get a sense of reality.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
