I'm looking for a good quality wood bat (maple or bamboo) for my 13 year old. He's a select ball player and training indoors this winter. Uses a 31/26 Marucci Cat 5 for school ball. Would this youth bat be too small, or should I step up to an adult size wood bat?
The BamBooBat Bamboo Wood Bat: HBBWY Black/White Youth is a high quality youth bat, but it may be a little too small for him. I would recommend trying a drop closer to a -4 or a -5. Our Sam Bat Maple Wood Bat: LLCD1 is going to be a little closer to the weight you should be using.
How much does this bat weigh?
The BamBooBat Bamboo Wood Bat: HBBWY Black/White Youth bat has an approximate -5 to -6 length to weight ratio.

Hi, Why are there no wooden bats that equal what most 11 or 12 yr olds use now as far as weight goes? There is no way my son who swings a 19oz CX5 can swing a 21 or more ounce wooden bat with any confidence and I need a wooden bat for a tourney this fall. What should I do?
That is because wood is a different consistency compared to composite or alloy. Since wood is solid, and can't be hollowed out like alloy or composite bats, they will be heavier in weight. When I played in wood bat tournaments when I was younger, my wood bat (along with everyone else's on my team) was a good 4 ounces heavier than my non-wood bat. I did practice with it for a week prior to the tournament to get used to the added weight. Two of the lighter youth wood bats on the market are the Rawlings VELO Ash Wood Bat: Y62LTE and MaxBat Maple Wood Bat: Youth. To get closest to 19 oz., a 26" or 27" model would be recommended.
Are these wooden bats BBCOR Approved?
No. The BamBooBat Bamboo Wood Bat: HBBWY Black/White Youth model is a youth bat that is not BBCOR approved.
how can you tell if the bat is cracked? my nephew says the bat stings his hand when he hits the ball solid.
