Questions and Answers for COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth
Would this bat be recommend for a home run hitter?
Yes. The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 Youth model is a one-piece composite and would be good for a power hitter.
Any recommendations on how to break in a COMbat Pure Gear?
The best way to break-in the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth is to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel 1/4 inch every swing. Start out with 40% power and work up to 100% by 100 swings. We also recommend not to use a composite bat in a batting cage that uses yellow dimpled balls.
My 6 year old son is 4'1" and 54 lbs. He currently swings a 26" 16 oz. alloy bat which allows him great swing speed to be a great contact hitter and with some power. We are looking to add some "pop" and distance to his hits. What bat would you recommend? Which size based on his size, weight and age?
The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth is a great one-piece fully composite bat that is very balanced. Based on his size, we would recommend moving to the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -10 Youth in a 28" 18.
Will it be legal in Little League for 2014?
As of 4/18/2013, the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth bat is legal for use in Little League. There aren't any official 2014 rules yet, but it should maintain its legality.
My son is 4'9" and 80 lbs. I was thinking the B2 reloaded 30" -12. Do you have another recommendation or a different opinion for length and drop. Thanks
A 30" -12 COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth would be the ideal size for your son.

My sons plays minors for Weddington Athletic association in Weddington NC. Little league and Babe Ruth affiliated. Just want to makesure this bat is approved for use there. Thanks Greg
The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth is legal in Little League. It is legal in the Cal Ripken division, but not 13-15 age division of Babe Ruth.
What do you recommend for a strong 11 y/o 105 lbs. kid? He is about 58" tall. Do you recommend a 30" or 31"? Thanks.
I would recommend going with the 30" 18 oz. model of the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth.
What would you recommend for my 5'1" 75 lb. 10 year old between the Combat Pure, Easton XL1 and S1? Thanks for the help!!!
I would recommend the 30" 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 Senior League. It will be very balanced in swing weight and easy to get through the hitting zone.
How does the Pure Gear compare to the 2013 CF5? My son is 9 and small. Very good contact hitter. Looking for a little more pop. Are both balanced bats?
The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth is very comparable to the 2013 CF5. Both are balanced bats with great pop. The 2013 CF5 will have more flex than the Pure Gear because it is a two-piece bat.
My son is 11 years old and is 5'8" tall and weighs 150 lbs. What size bat should I get?
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 32" 20 oz model in the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 -12 Youth bat.
I will be 13 in February 2013 I weigh over 100 lbs, and I am 5. Should i order a 31" or 32"?
You would be better off going with a 31" COMBAT Pure Gear PUREYB1 -12 Youth.
The league my 8 year old son plays in allows the youth big barrel bats in addition to the normal smaller barrel bats. He's a very good hitter who rarely swings and misses. Besides having a larger barrel and easier contact, what are the benefits of a youth big barrel in comparison to a bat like the COMbat PUREYB1? He currently uses the TPX Triton II big barrel 28/16. Would this COMbat have more pop and swing speed because of the smaller barrell?
The benefits of the larger barrel are in fact, a larger hitting surface. It will be easier to make contact. The contact made should be more solid as well. The Louisville Slugger TPX Triton II is going to swing the same as the COMBAT PUREYB1. They are both one-piece bats that are 100% composite designs. The only difference will be the barrel size. The pop and swing speed should be very comparable between the bats.
I'm 10 and 56.5" and about 74 pounds. Should i get -13 29/16 or -12 30/17?
Based on your size, the 30" 17 oz. model would be the best option.
How does the Pure compare to the COMbat B2 Reloaded?
While both bats have one-piece construction the COMBAT B2 Reloaded will have stiffer feel at contact, whereas the COMBAT Pure Gear is designed to have the feel of a two-piece bat.
For a "power hitter" which you recommend? The Pure Gear or the B2 Reloaded?
Both are one-piece composite bats that are very high performing. The B2 Reloaded will be stiffer, better for a power hitter.
Will using some rubbing alcohol to get left over adhesive off harm the bat?
No, using rubbing alcohol wouldn't affect the performance of any bat.
Is this bat approved for play in little league 2012-2013
Yes the COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1-12 is approved for Little League play in 2012 and 2013.
Does this require a break in period
Yes, the COMBAT Pure Gear takes about 150-200 hits to fully break in.
Is the -12 correct? Does the 30/18 actually weigh 18 ounces or is it heavier? I know that the B3 Gear Retrofits are heavier than listed. My son's 29/17 weighs almost 19 ounces. I think that was due to the retrofit, because the orginial B3 Gears actually weight the listed weight. Does any know it the listed weight is correct for the Pure Gear?
Bat manufacturers weigh their bats before the final stages of production, which includes the addition of paint, decals, grip, and sometimes the endcap and knob. It may weigh slightly more than advertised, but this is common amongst all brands.
My son just completed last season of Dixie Youth Coach Pitch which only allows 2 1/4 " barrel. My son is very small-50 lbs.He had the 27/15 Combat Grifter. He isn't a power hitter, but never struck out with this bat and usually got a single in the infield. Now that season is over I want to get him another bat. I'm looking at the PUREYB1 and the B3 Gear Retro 27/15. Which one would do better for a little guy? We want to work on distance.
The COMBAT B3 Gear Retro and the COMBAT Pure Gear would both be excellent options for your young son who is looking to increase his power. They are both one-piece bats which is preferred by power hitters. Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Is this bat Cal Ripken and USSSA approved? Is this bat better than the B4 for a power hitter?
Yes. The Pure Gear youth bat is approved for Cal Ripken and USSSA. Both the Pure and B4 are great bats for power hitters.
Whats the difference between a two-piece design and a one-piece design?
A one-piece bat will be pretty stiff and is generally more preferred by power hitters. A two-piece bat will offer a little flex and is typically better suited for contact or gap hitters.
Does it have more power and pop as the s1
They are very similar in pop and power. The difference will be the Pure Gear is a one piece composite while the Easton S1 is a two-piece composite.
We have a kid on our Little League team that has a Combat B3 YB1. Is that bat different from the PureYB1? If so, how can we tell if it is legal to use in Little League?
The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 has Anistropic, Precision Molding, and Gear technologies. Anistropic is different stiffnesses and strengths to maximize feel. Precision Molding controls inner and outer wall thicknesses to maximize trampoline effect. Gear is a special taper geometry to allow greater performance toward the barrel taper.
Which Combat is thought to have best pop for 8 year old hitter (above average) 4'5" 86 lbs. The B4 or the Gear bats?
The COMBAT Pure Gear: PUREYB1 has Anistropic, Precision Molding, and Gear technologies not found in the B4. Anistropic is different stiffnesses and strengths to maximize feel. Precision Molding controls inner and outer wall thicknesses to maximize trampoline effect. Gear is a special taper geometry to allow greater performance toward the barrel taper.
How does the Combat Pure youth bat compare to the Combat B4 and B3 Gear Retro bats?
The Pure is pretty similar to the B3 Gear, except the Pure will have a slightly lighter swing weight. The B4 does not feature the same Gear technology as the other two. The Pure will have good pop and perform most similar to the B3 Gear.
I am a 12 year old that is 5ft 5in and about 125 pounds. I am a power hitter. I was wondering what would be a better homerun hitting bat for me, the Combat Pure Gear or the 2013 Demarini Voodoo.
If you are more of a contact hitter, I would probably suggest to go with the COMBAT Pure Gear. This bat has a one-piece design that is better suited for power hitters. The DeMarini Voodoo is a great bat, but the two-piece design of that bat is usually better suited for contact hitters.
My son is 8, would this be a good bat for him for coach pitch?
The PUREYB1 is a youth bat with a 2 1/4 inch barrel. Typically, coach pitch leagues allow their teams to use a bat with a larger barrel (2 5/8" or 2 3/4"). If he can use a big barrel bat, I recommend looking at our Junior Big Barrel section.
