Description

New for The next generation of Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its second season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece IMX Composite/THT100 Scandium Alloy hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Personalize Your Power! The S3 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive 400 Day Manufacturer's Warranty. Pros: I bought this bat for my son cause he is extremely small for his age. He is 10 years old and had trouble getting the XL1 bat around due to the weight of the bat being all on the end of the bat. The S3 is offered in a 28" 15 oz. which really gives him a lot of bat speed. We are not trying to hit home runs just line drives and hard ground balls. So far this bat has been worth the money for a smaller player. If your kid is small don't over-bat him, get him something he can swing.

Cons: None so far

Pros: Great pop from the first hit. Well Balanced. -13 is perfect for smaller players. My son is 7 and on the smaller side. This is the first bat that he can really get around on and he absolutely crushes the ball with this bat. The Easton big barrel that he used over the summer doesn't even compare.

Cons: None.

Mr .T

Pros: I have this the XL1 and the S1, they all have great pop. I really think the S3 has more pop than the S1. Sounds crazy, but true. The XL1 is end loaded, which helps for power, but the 30" 17 oz. S3 really helps bat speed. It's a real level swinging bat.

Cons: Zero.

Lil E (son)

Pros: My son is a small 8 year old with great bat speed already. Playing in his second and last Greenie League Classic Tournament this past week, I ordered the S3 so he could get used to it before faces live pitching for the first time. He went from a 28/18 to a 29/16 and that made an immediate difference, more bat speed. But the difference in power that he had was undeniable. I'm Dad and coach and I've never seen his power on display like it was. He impressed A LOT of Little League scouts last week when he was at the plate! To break it in, I used it to hit infield/outfield.

Cons: He'll eventually grow out of it...

No Line of Hype Todd parent

Pros: Honest review here. Just received the bat today. Took my son out back to test it out. I am able to say this bat improved my son's swing, speed and contact a lot. And eventually his confidence. I can't say he hit any homers cause there was no fence but he definitely was driving them much farther than before. Truly great "pop" off the bat. If he had this bat for the past season the inside the park homer would have been an over the fence walk off home run. He also has a 29/16 Easton 2012 S1, he likes the 2013 S3 better!

Cons: Absolutely none.

Pros: Bought 28/15 for my 7 year old and he is hitting bombs with it. It is his first 28" bat and he has great control with most likely due to the balance. I used it once for infield/outfield practice and cleared a 225' fence hitting the ball one handed. Amazing pop...

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat: YB13S3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

If my son is not that big of a kid is the S3 more for him vs the XL3? markd
That all depends on his strength and swing speed. If he has above average strength and swing speed, the XL3 is best. If he has average or below average strength and swing speed, the S3 is best.
Tyler
My son is 7 years old and uses the Easton S3 . He is more of a contact, line drive hitter so is this the best bat for him to use? joey
Normally, a one-piece bat like the 2013 Easton S3 is better suited for a power hitter. A two-piece bat like the Easton S1 or Easton S2 would be better for a contact hitter.
Kara
My son is 8 yr old uses omen 28/16 mostly line drives with 4 hr.He is 4ft 6 in 90 lbs. What new easton could he benefit from best? holmes
The Easton S1 is a two-piece composite design that is very similar to it's predecessor, which was the Omen.
Tyler
My son is 4'8" and weighs 70 lbs. with skinny arms. What Easton bat do you recommend? grillmaster
The recommended length for your son would be 30". The Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth baseball bat would be a good choice as it is built for contact hitters.
Jeff
I have a 10 year old who used the Easton Surge 28" this past season and had no issues with bat speed. He is 4'7" and weighs 67. He loves the bat the kids used in the World Series. He is a contact, Line drive hitter. What bat do you recommend? I just bought him the TPX Catalyst 29" for travel. I was thinking of a 30" for house. Thanks for any advice. Alan
You could go go up to a 30" bat, but I would recommend staying with a 29" bat right now. Since your son is a contact or line drive hitter I would suggest a balanced two-piece bat like the Easton S1 or S2.
Noah
I'm looking at this bat and the 2013 XL3, my decision is between the -13 and the -11. My son is 9, 4'7" and 75 pounds. He hits with some power. Can you please tell me why a parent would choose a -13, -12, or -11 bat for their kid. Demarini Voodoo or Vendetta is another option for us, but they are all -13. Any advice in this area would be great. His bat last year was 29-17. coach M
Bat size varies by player. Based on his height, weight, and current size bat, a 30" model is recommended with a weight between 18 and 20 oz.
Tyler
Can someone explain the whole "Minus #" with respect to these bats? What does that number mean and how do you match the correct number to a player's ability? TrueDat
The minus (-) number is called the length to weight ratio. this is the numerical difference between the length and the weight of the bat. For instance, a 30" 20 oz. bat is a -10. A 29" 16 oz. bat is a -13. The best way to choose a weight is to look at the weight of the player's current bat. You never want to move down in weight from what they are currently using, and it's always recommended to move up 1-3 ounces with every new bat.
Tyler
I have a 11 year-old son who is 5' and weighs 90 Ibs. Last year he swung a 30" 17oz. bat. Which Easton bat would you recommend for him for 2013? yellowjacket
You should try going with a 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth. It will be a little heavier than the drop 13 he used last year, but it is a balanced two-piece bat, which is perfect for any contact hitter so he should have no problem with the weight adjustment.
Noah
My son is a 9 year old with very quick hands. He has hit for 5 years and only struck out a handful of times. He currently swings a 29/16 Easton Reflex and I am thinking of up grading. What do you suggest? jim
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat is a very good bat and would be a great choice for your son. As your son continues to grow it is important to continue to increase the length and weight of the bat so that he will eventually be able to successfully compete in high school baseball. He should be swinging as heavy a bat as he can successfully handle.
Jeff
My son is 5'1" and weights 86 lbs. He has been hitting with the Easton Rival 29/-13 the past two years. Which of the Easton bats is most comparable to this model? What length would you recommend? He likes the pop and speed of his Rival. Michael
The Easton Rival was replaced by Easton with the 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat. This bat is a one-piece full alloy with a balanced swing weight. They also carry a similar bat, the 2013 Easton XL3: YB13X3 Youth which is a one-piece full alloy bat. This bat features an extended barrel with a slight end-load.
Robert
My son is 8 years old and weighs 70 lbs. He has a nice swing and is generally well balanced in his swing. He swings smoothly. Is this a good bat for him or would a different bat work better? He currently uses the S1 big barrel bat 28 in 16 oz. I am thinking about the S3 29 in 16 oz for little league. M-Dog
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is an all alloy bat, while the Easton S1 is an all composite bat. In general, the S3 and S1 bats will perform the same. It comes down to what materials you prefer.
Marcus
My son is 6 almost 7 and he is 4'6 105 pounds. He makes contact with almost every pitch. Would this be a good bat for him? I am looking at the 30". Peter
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 would be a great option as it is very well balanced with excellent pop.
Tyler
My 7 yr. old (soon to be 8) son used the Easton SV12 (29 in, 16 oz, -13) in the fall and hit well with it until it died. We're looking for a new bat and think this might fit the bill. Do they compare well? And is a -13 drop bat approved in most leagues? We're also considering moving up to the 30 in. 17 oz, as he has grown a little since the fall, although he falls more in the 29 in, 16 oz, range based on his height and weight. He is a strong hitter and thought it would be good to move up in bat size a little. Thoughts on that as well? Coach Y
Yes, the 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat would be a great choice. This one-piece all alloy model will be very balanced in swing weight. The 30" bat length should fit him perfectly. This bat will have the new updated USSSA stamp on it. It will be legal for his league and tournaments.
Brandon
What, if any, are the differences between the 2012 and 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3? Coach D
Both the 2012 and 2013 Easton S3 Youth models are one-piece alloy designs. They use the same THT100 Scandium alloy and will perform very comparable.
Aubrey
My son is 4'5", 60 pounds, and 9 years old. What bat would you recommend for him as far as length and weight? Also are all of your -12 and -13 USSSA and Cal Ripken approved? David
I would recommend a 29" 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3. All of our bats have their league approvals and ratings noted.
Kevin
How much will the S3 (YB13S3) outperform the Easton Reflex (YB13RX)? If at all, what are the main aspects in which it does? Thanks. bigpapayahead
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat uses THT Scandium Alloy whereas the 2013 Easton Reflex: YB13RX Youth bat uses 7050 Aircraft alloy. They both are one-piece alloy designs but the Reflex features an extended barrel design. The following is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Aubrey
Is there much advantage with the composite handle on the S2? At 4.5 feet tall and 80 lbs, is a 30/17 a good size or would 18 oz. be better? JMan
Two-piece bats like the Easton S2 will offer better sting and vibration reduction compared to one-piece bats like the 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3. Based on his size, a 30" bat would be a good choice with a weight between 17 and 20 oz. Weight comes down to the size bat he is currently using as you do not want to move down in weight and will typically want to move up 1-3 oz.
Tyler
My son is almost 9 and plays machine pitch now. He uses a 27'' 14 oz. - 13 bat. He is about 4' tall and weighs near 70 lbs. He hits some balls in the outfield and many line drives mostly towards center field. I want to buy the best bat and size for him, one he can play with moving forward for a year or two. Which do you suggest? Shawn
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is a one-piece alloy bat, better for a power hitter. A two-piece bat like the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is best for a contact hitter. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 28" 15 oz. bat.
Kara
My son is 4'1", and 54 pounds. He is strong for his size. What is a good bat size? Steve
We would suggest a 28" 18 oz. 2013 Easton S3. That would be a -10.
Chad M.
My son is 8 years old, 4.5 ft 48 lbs. What bat would be right for him? I am guessing the Easton S series. He has been swinging a 28" 18 oz. for two years. He is a little one but makes contact always has a perfect swing. I don't think I should back him up in weight, Right? Action
We suggest with the height and weight given that he should move up the the 29" 19 oz. bat. The S in the Easton S Series stands for speed. Which will allow him to feel like he is swinging a lighter bat.
Chad M.
My son is 8 years old and pretty small he makes good contact but needs more pop. He is 4'4" and 51 lbs, the smallest kid on his travel team. What bat and size do you recommend? Bhissam
With the height and weight you provided, I would go with a 28" 15 oz. bat. Since the Easton S3 is a very easy swinging bat it would be a perfect fit.
Chad M.
My son is 6 and starting coaches pitch this year. He's 44 lbs. He is really good so I'm trying to get the best bat possible for him. What do you recommend? ac
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth would be a great bat to start him off with. It is very easy to swing and will have some pop as well.
Chad M.
Does the Easton S3 have a extended barrel like the XL Series? Also what do you think of the new Rawlings YBMACH Machine bat. I am trying to decide which bat fits my 9 year old the best. He is 4ft 6 inches and about 62lbs. Thanks so much for your help. bernski3
The Easton S3 is not going to have the same extended barrel like the XL series. In my opinion the Rawlings Machine is going to perform similar to the Easton S3, although the Machine will be a little more durable.
Derek
My son is 10, 5' 0", plays Minor Division of Little League and has a pretty fast swing. Which would be the best bat? gordongolfer
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth would be a good option for a 10 year old in the Minor Division. It's a balanced one-piece alloy that will help him increase his already fast bat speed.
Katie
I am 4' 10",11 years old, and 85 lbs. I have a M2M that is a 30" 18 oz. Should I get the Easton S3, or should I get the 2011 Vexxumn? omar44
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat would be a good choice for you. The S3 is a one-piece full alloy bat with balanced swing weight. It will be comparable to the M2M you currently use with a little better balance.
Robert
In our league we can't use composite bats. Will this bat be legal? Mike
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is a one-piece alloy bat.
Kara
My son is starting the All Star season and was looking for a good bat. He's 10 years old, 4'9", and 80 lbs. He is a power hitter. What would best suit him? The 2012 Easton S2 or the 2013 Easton S3? papa samano
The Easton S series is more designed for contact hitters as these models are balanced. A power hitter would be better suited using the Easton XL series.
Damon
I have the red and black Vendetta and it is pretty good. For my next bat, should I get the S3 or another Vendetta? dusk n dawn
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is a great bat and is extremely balanced. Unfortunately, DeMarini does not make the Vendetta in a youth bat anymore.
John H
Is it a big barrel model and is it composite? boom
No, the 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat features a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter. It is a one-piece fully alloy design.
Aubrey
My son is now on a 7U select team. He is the smallest kid on the team and usually hits with a pretty good average, but not a lot of power because he is so small. He currently uses a 27" -12 Easton Typhoon. We want to get him a better bat to help generate some pop. We are looking at the S3 28"-13. It's an extra inch but the same weight. Will this be worth the extra money or should we stay with the Easton Typhoon? Chris
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth uses a higher grade of alloy than the Easton Typhoon. It will provide better durability and performance.
Kara
Does the S3 have the same size sweet spot as the the Rival XXL? How does both bats compare to each other? Harold
Yes, both bats will have the same sweet spot as one another and will also use the same THT100 alloy. The S3 replaced the Rival on the newer Easton line.
John
My son is 7 years old, 4'1" tall and 52 pounds. He is currently in coach pitch Little League and will be again next year. His current bat is dented up as we use real baseballs. What is the best bat to get that will hold up and be balanced? chad
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is a very balanced bat. It is made of Easton's highest grade of alloy for excellent durability and performance.
Kara
My son is 9 yrs old and about 53"and 65 lbs. Average swing speed. Has been using Easton Reflex, but wants to upgrade. Is the S3 at 29" 16 oz a good option? rebelmark
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is an upgrade from the Easton Reflex. It uses a higher grade of alloy for better performance and durability. It would be a great option for him.
Kara
My son plays on a 7U team and swings an Easton Typhoon 29" 18 oz. right now. We are looking to upgrade to a 29" S3 or the XL3. He hits the ball a lot, but no power and he is 4' 6" 65 lbs. which one would you recommend? Bradana
It sounds like your son is more of a contact hitter. The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth will be great for him, because it will allow him to still get the bat around quickly.
Noah
What are the advantages if any of the one-piece aluminum S3 over the two- piece composite? My son is coming from a 27" 17 oz. big barrel to a 2-1/4 28"15 oz. bat due to Little League big barrel regulations. Chris
A one-piece bat like the 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is best for a power hitter. It also does not require a break-in period. A two-piece composite bat will provide more flex and is best for a contact hitter. It will provide a break-in period.
Kara
What big barrel Easton bat can I use in Cal Ripken because most bats that I want cannot be used in Cal Ripken. DannyBoy
Cal Ripken Jr. division only allows 2 1/4" barrel diameter bats, so you would not be able to use a big barrel. They have to be 2 1/4" barrel and have the BPF 1.15 stamp.
Damon
Seems you are sold out of my son's size. Will there be a 2014 version of this bat? Thank you. Karen
Yes. The 2014 Easton S3 Youth: YB14S3 is set for release 11-1-2013.
Damon
Hi, I have a DeMarini Black Coyote. Will the Easton S3 be a great upgrade? ilovebaseball12345
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth bat will feature a higher grade alloy material. You could expect great results and performance. Both bats would be a great option for a youth hitter.
Brandon
Is there much difference from the 2013 to 2014 S3? Hacksaw
Both the 2013 Easton S3 and 2014 S3 model are one-piece alloy designs that use THT scandium alloy and feature balanced swing weights. The main difference would be cosmetic.
Aubrey
Is there any issues with using this bat in kid pitch league (45-55mph with real baseballs)? Also, can this bat be used in batting cages with yellow dimple balls without damaging the bat or degrading its performance? pnpgator
The 2013 Easton S3: YB13S3 Youth is designed to withstand the higher velocity kid and machine pitching. We recommend avoiding the yellow dimple cage balls, as they can drastically shorten the lifespan of any bat.
Katie
My son is going will be 6 later this year. He is 46 inches tall and will be starting coach pitch next season. Which bat do you recommend between the S3 and the XL3? Joe
Given that your player is going to be starting out in coach pitch I would lean towards going with the more balanced Easton S3 (YB13S3). The more end-loaded 2014 Easton XL3 (YB14X3) would be a bit tougher to swing so it would be more of an adjustment to face different pitching.
