Questions and Answers for Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League

I'm 12 years old and I am 5' 3" 95 pounds. I used the Easton Omen this past year and I need a (-5). What bat do you recommend the Easton XL1, XL2, or XL3?

The Easton XL1 is the model that replaced the Easton Omen. It is a two-piece composite bat.

Damon Expert ·Apr 27, 2013

Will you please try to get a 32"?

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League bat is a discontinued product. We will not be adding any more back into inventory as we have the 2013 models in stock.

I used the CF5 31" 21 oz. last year and had great results, hit my first HR(s). Bought the Marrucci Black 30" 25 oz. this year at age 13 and had mixed results. The Marucci Black does not seem heavy to me but not great pop so far and wondering if I should try the Easton XL1? The XL1 seems more like the CF5 from what I read on your sight.

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League will feel similar to the 2012 DeMarini CF5. Both are two-piece bats with an end loaded feel. The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League will have great pop as well.

My son is 13 and this will be his 1st year in Babe Ruth league (this is in town rec baseball). I got this bat from this website (30" 25oz) but was wondering if he will be allowed to use it. Does the fact that it is a composite bat matter? If not allowed to use it, what would be a comparable bat in the $200 range?

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 is a full composite youth big barrel bat, which makes it illegal in the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth. The 2013 Easton XL3: SL13X35 is a -5 bat from Easton that will be legal in Babe Ruth that would be a great option.

When will you have more of these available in 32" 27 oz?

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League is a discontinued model, so we will not be receiving any more of these bats in any size in stock.

My son plays on a 14 travel team in the Gopher State League in Minnesota. His bat has to be a -5 and needs to have the new USSSA 1.15 mark or be a qualified BBCOR bat. It also has to be a 2 3/4" or less barrel. Would this bat qualify?

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League fits all of those qualifications. The XL1 is a -5 with a 2 5/8" barrel, and it has the newest USSSA "thumbprint" stamp on it.

Katie Expert ·Mar 15, 2013

47639

What makes a Senior League bat different from a Youth bat?

The Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League may also be referred to as a Youth Big Barrel. Senior League (Youth Big Barrels) will have either a 2 5/8" or a 2 3/4" barrel diameter, whereas a Youth bat will have a 2 1/4" barrel.

Are there weather restrictions on using this bat? What should the minimum temperature be before using it?

Like all composite bats, I do not recommend using the Easton XL1: SL11X15 Senior League below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is a question about the XL1 but could be about any drop 5 bat. my son is a small 13 year old. he will be playing high school ball next year. He doesn't have a lot of pop so what would be the best -5 for him. He has quick hands and consistently makes contact but needs as much help as he can get with the bat?

A more balanced bat would be recommended based on your information. The more balanced -5 bats are the Marucci Black: MSB115, 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha: SL1365 and 2013 Rawlings VELO: SLVEL5.

How long does it take to break in the XL1 ?

We recommend taking 100-200 swings off of a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about 1/4 inch each swings. We also recommend not to use composite bats in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls.

Reading through your reviews your experts have different answers about the same bat. Some of them say the XL1 is the better power hitting bat and some of the others say its the XL3 alloy only one. My son is a POWER HITTER and he used the omen -5 last year. Is the best POWER HITTING type bat for him this year at a -5 going to be the XL1 or the XL3? I know they are both great bats and I know the composite and all alloy difference of the two but which is the best POWER HITTING bat?

It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Since he is a power hitter and has previously used the Omen, the XL1 would be the best option as it is also a two-piece composite bat like the Omen, and has a endloaded feel preferred by stronger hitters.

I see conflicting responses about which bat is better for power hitters XL1 or XL3. Can you shed some light on this? Also, do you have any insight on the replacements for the XL series? Looking to see which 2013 Easton will be a good choice for a power hitter////

I can tell you from experience at the High School and Collegiate level, it ALL comes down to the personal preference of the player. Neither the XL1 nor the XL3 is better than the other. Both are endloaded bats great for stronger hitters with higher swing speeds. If you are unsure about what you prefer as a hitter, it's always recommended a player stick with the same type of bat they have used previously with success. For instance, if you have have had the most success in the past with a one-piece alloy bat, you should get the XL3. If you have had the most success in the past with a two-piece composite bat, or a any other two-piece bat, you should get the XL1. Easton's new 2013 bats haven't hit the market yet, but there will not be any major overhauls in terms of construction or performance.

I am moving my son up to drop 5 in prep for hs ball. He currently is swinging a -10 XL1 for rec and a drop 8 voodoo in travel. He has a very fast swing speed and is a power hitter, which do you think would be more suited for him the xl1 or the new '13 voodoo either in drop 5?

That all depends on which bat he had more success with... the Voodoo or XL1. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.

I need a -5 for my middle school team and I would like to know if you had any suggestions on what type of bat I should get? Right now i use the Easton Surge -10. I usually hit leadoff. I'm short but I get hit a lot of singles and triples. Once in a while a homer.

Here is a link to view our most popular -5 bats. The Marucci Black, the DeMarini Vexxum, and the Anderson NanoTek would be comparable to that Easton Surge you currently use. http://www.justbats.com/products/length%20to%20weight%20ratio~-%205/barrel%20diameter~2%205-8/

How long does it take to break in?

We recommend about 150-200 swings off the tee or soft toss. We also recommend rotating the bat about a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings to help fully break in the composite fibers.

John Expert ·May 18, 2012

I have a question what is the difference between composite and BBCOR? Also, what is most like the Easton Omen?

"BBCOR" is a certification that all adult bats must have in order to be legal for use. Composite bats are just bats that are made out of composite, or a mix of carbon fiber and other materials. Adult composite bats will have to be BBCOR certified in order to be legal for use. The Easton Omen has been discontinued and replaced with the Easton S1.

How does the XL3 compare to the XL1 or the XL2? I was wondering which is better for a contact hitter, out of the 3?

If you are looking for a contact hitter, I would suggest going with the XL1 or XL2. Both of these bats have a two-piece design which is most preferred by contact hitters. The S3 is a great bat, but since it has a one-piece design, it is usually better suited for a power hitter.

Jennifer Expert ·Apr 11, 2012

My son is 13U, some tournaments have no restrictions, other do, I see this is approved by USSSA 1.15, but what about BBCOR, are there even -5 which are BBCOR approved?

All BBCOR bats will be -3 Adult bats. USSSA stamped approved bats come -5 and lighter.

I'm deciding between the senior league XL1 and XL3. I like the 2 piece but I am a power hitter. What bat would be the best bat?

If you are more of a power hitter, I would suggest going with the S3. This one piece design will be pretty stiff and helps generate more power. Two piece designs are typically more preferred by contact hitters or those who may not have much natural power.

Jennifer Expert ·Mar 11, 2012

Just purchased and received. Wondering how long for break in.

We recommend taking between 150-200 hits either off of a tee or soft toss, starting out at about 40% and gradually increasing the closer you get to the 200 hit mark. Also, make sure you are rotating the bat about 1/4 of an inch in between each hit and are using the same balls you would normally use in a game.

13 year old, smaller build, contact hitter. Has been using Voodoo black and Stealth Speed last 3 years and loved them. Trying to go to a 30 inch -5 for HS prep. Will this bat be comparable to his previous bats? Is Easton plannning on making the S1 in -5? If so, which one, S1 or XL1, would be better?

The S1 will not be manufactured in a -5. The XL1 may be a little more endloaded compared to the Stealth and Voodoo. I would take a look at the -5 Omen and -5 Voodoo.

Which bat hits Better the xl1 or the Easton omen

Both the Easton XL1 and the Easton Omen are going to hit pretty much the same, as they are both a two piece design. The XL1 is going to be better for power hitters, has an extended barrel with a larger sweetspot, and tends to be more end heavy. The XL1 is going to be a good choice for a power hitter. The Easton Omen is also going to have larger sweet spot, but tends to be more balanced. The Omen is also going to have a lower M.O.I which will create a feeling of a lighter swing weight and faster swing speed. The Omen is going to be a good choice for a power hitter.

12862

What is your personal preference omen or xl1?

Personally, I like the XL1, I like the weighting on it, the Omen swings a little lighter than I personally, like.

Linda Expert ·Jan 11, 2012

12861

What exactly does end loaded mean?

It means the bulk of the weight of the bat is distributed toward the end of the barrel. Giving it a heavier feel, which transfers into power coming through the ball.

Linda Expert ·Jan 11, 2012

12792

How end loaded is the bat? I like alloy. What's the difference with composite

Easton did design this bat to have a slight endloaded feel for power hitters. Composite bats generally outperform alloy barrel bats. Alloy barrel bats will be hot right out of the wrapper. Composite barrel bats will have a break in period. We recommend around 150 swings off the tee or soft toss. Also, make sure you rotate the barrel a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings to fully break in the composite fibers throughtout the barrel.

John Expert ·Jan 10, 2012

12064

for 2012 Little League Jr League do all bats with composite barrels now have to be -3 only?

The information given to us says that all bats MUST be stamped EITHER, USSSA 1.15 BPF (which will allow smaller guys to still use lighter bats) OR it must be stamped BBCOR (which is a mandatory -3 weight which is great for the older bigger guys) or be a wood bat.

Linda Expert ·Dec 28, 2011

11403

How does this bat compare to the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: SL12EX25.

They are both -5 and have the USSA 1.15 BPF stamp on it. The difference as to how they are made is the Exogrid is a 1 pc alloy with composite inserts into the handle. Where the Easton is a 2 pc fully composite bat.

Linda Expert ·Dec 16, 2011

My son is more of a line drive hitter. He may occasionaly get one deep. Which would be better?

This bat has more of an end-loaded feel which is for power hitters. This bat will add power to his swing. This bat has very good pop and a nice sweet spot.

KG Expert ·Dec 12, 2011

Last year my kid (12U) had the Easton Speed (BSS14XL) and simply crushed the ball. How does the XL1 compare. He has to go to -5 this year.

Out of all the current Easton bats on the market, the XL1 will be the most comparable to the Stealth Speed. The Stealth Speed was one of the highest, if not the highest performing bat Easton has produced. The XL1 is Easton's new top of the line bat and should be a great option. The XL1 will also feel a little more end-loaded than the Stealth Speed.

Is my power hitter son going to get more power and distance from the xl1 because its composite or the xl3 because its a stiff handle

The XL1 tends to have more power due to the composite barrel. Both of those bats have good pop. The Xl1 will have a more end-loaded feel compared to the Xl3

both bats are going to be great options, The XL1 is going to have more flex and the B3 is going to be stiffer, other than that they should perform very similarly.
