Description

Louisville Slugger has a rich tradition of quality dating back to 1884. Since their beginning, Louisville Slugger has focused on improving their bats year in and year out in order to help make players the best they can be. One of last year's hottest new designs was the Catalyst, and it's ready to jump start baseball players' games again this season! Made from C1C Composite, the one-piece Catalyst is designed to send the ball flying! The C1C Composite is precisely layered with toughened epoxy resin to make it not only high performing, but insanely durable for a mid-level priced bat! The thing that really makes the Catalyst stand out though is the -12 length to weight ratio! This unique design makes the Catalyst one of the lightest senior league bats to EVER hit the market! The Catalyst is topped off with the patented Louisville Slugger End Cap that dampens vibration and traps that energy in the barrel to create explosive bat to ball contact! With a 7/8 inch tapered handle and a synthetic leather grip, the Catalyst will feel amazing in your hands as you prepare to hit your next homer! Louisville Slugger: Leave Your Mark! The Catalyst features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

This Bat is HOTTTT.... Tj parent

Pros: My son has used this bat since it was first Released hit the Fence @ 205 as a 10 year old.. First 2 at bats, only used in weekend tournament.. only hit it maybe 10 times before that to get a feel for it. So with no break in time on it was hot out of wrapper.

Cons: However He was playing a scrimmage game and took a inside pitch and snapped the bat in half about 8" above the Grip.. So now we wait for the Replacement. As our state tourney arrives..

Ideal Fit Dimitri coach

Pros: If you HAVE to use a big barrel bat because everyone else is doing it and it is the only way to make it an even playing field, then this is the bat to get, At least for a 7-9 year old. The advantage to this bat is that it is one of the only bats on the market that offer a 17oz 29" combo, or -12. This gives a great advantage for a young kid to maintain their bat speed. The Louisville Slugger gives you the best overall product for half the price of the Combat.

Cons: The sound is a bit odd but much better than the Easton Mako.

Great Bat Tim (Keizer Cubs!) player

Pros: These are great bats. I have a smaller son 8 years old 4' 1" 48 pounds so we bought a 27" 15oz he loves it. When we brought it to the first scrimmage game for our tournament team all the other kids loved it too. Now the team has 5 more of all sizes. All of us Coaches see a noticeable difference in how the ball is jumping off the bat compared to the other bats we were using.

Great bat, but buy 2 Jared parent

Pros: Great pop, light weight makes for great bat speed

Cons: This is the fourth Catalyst we have bought, and three of the four have broken at about the year mark. This one, however, broke in less than a month. We bought this to replace his last bat that had just broken. The warrantee process takes so long, that we had to buy another to finish the season. This one didn't last at all.

NO POP Mike coach

Pros: Its a nice looking bat and it swings well. Like the balance feel b

Cons: It has no pop at all. Other boys were excited that my son got a new bat and everyone wanted to try it out. once everyone used it a couple of times , it just doesn't have any pop to it. Even the other kids said that the bat is a dud. So we over paid for this bat hoping for a good balance bat that had some pop. Wouldn't recommend this bat

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) and the 2014 Louisville Slugger Catalyst XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT14-RX) will be very similar in terms of the material used and the construction. Both use the C1C composite.

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) is only featured in a -12 length to weight ratio in the Senior League design.
Patrick
How does this bat compare to Combat Portent G3 that is also a -12? Diesel
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) and the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) will be similar in overall design and performance. They would compare very closely. Preference between the two would come down to brand preference for the most part.
Patrick
Is this bat legal for 12 year travel select players? Ken
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT15X features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. Most travel leagues require that stamp but I would double check with your particular travel league.
Ryan

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) is going to have updated technology in the carbon fiber used in this composite bat.
Frankie
Which will have less bat sting, the 2015 LS SLCT15X or the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum DXVXY? Dude
The 2014 DeMarini Vexxum Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVXY) is a two-piece design which will, in general, have better sting and vibration protection than a single-piece design like the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X).
Patrick
What is the break in procedure for this year's bat? Same as last year? Or are these "broken in" already? Bailey
For composite bats like the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) it usually takes around 150-200 hits for the composite material to be fully ready for game use..
Ben
My son is 12 and weighs about 60 lbs. He plays elite ball and I'm wondering if you think the 30-18 of this model is good for him? He is a singles hitter that hits at the top of the lineup. JB
Based on his age, the 30" 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) is the ideal size for him. The best way to determine the correct length of bat for a player is by their height and weight. For further sizing questions check out our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Jason
Will this bat in a 30" 18 oz swing heavier than my son's 29" 19 oz 2 5/8 Demarini Vexxum DXVXR? Baseball junki
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) will swing lighter than the DXVXR because of the one ounce difference. They are both very light swinging and balanced bats though.
Jason
What is the life expectancy of this model if it is used for games exclusively? Aaron4Mizzou
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) features a two piece full composite design. Typically upper end composite models tend to last between 2 -3 years before a noticeable performance loss, as long as they are used for games. Batting practice and cage work will decrease the lifespan of the bat. Additionally, it does come with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
Joe
Should my 9 year old son go with a SLCT15X or the SLCT152? Basically, should he use a 2 3/4 or 2 5/8? He is 54 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds. Kris
Which barrel diameter model your player should use would be based less on their size and bore on what their league allows. At his age, it could go either way for whether their league would only allow 2 5/8 inch models like the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) or if you can go with the bigger 2 3/4 barrel 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X).
Patrick
How does the Catalyst compare to the Easton S1? DJ
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) is similar to the Easton S1 because it features a fully composite design and balanced swing weight. They will both require a break-in because of the composite design. The balanced swing weight makes them ideal for contact hitters looking to work on bat speed and bat control. The main differences is that the S1 features a two-piece design, whereas the Catalyst is a one-piece.
Tessa
My son is a 3'9" and weighs 53 lbs. Would a 27" 15 oz. be too big for him? Seth
According to our bat coach feature on our website, the 27" 15 oz. 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X) would be a good choice.
Liz

Should this bat only be used during warmer outdoor temps? Based on the comments, the bat may snap if it's cold out. Mike
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT15X, like any bat on the market, is best used in temperatures above 55 degrees. Temperatures below 55 degrees cause the baseball to become more dense and that is what can damage a bat.

My son is 6 years old and I don't know if we can use this bat for Pony league? mago
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT15X features the USSSA BPF 1.15 Certification so it should be legal for play in Pony. Although, I would recommend reaching out to either a coach or league official to clarify the bat restrictions within your particular division before making a purchase.

What are the major differences between the Catalyst and the Prime 916 big barrel bats? I'm looking for a recommendation for a 7 year old (50", 60 lbs). He swung a 28" Omaha 516 (2 1/4) in Little league this spring, but I'm looking for a bat for fall travel ball. Big E
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT15X has a one-piece design, 2 3/4" barrel diameter, and a -12 length to weight ratio. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat has a three-piece construction, is offered in both 2 5/8" and 2 3/4" barrel diameters, and is available in -5, -8, and -10 length to weight ratios. Both of these bats are fully composite and have a balanced swing weight. For your player's height and weight, we recommend a 28" bat length. Typically 7 year old players use a -12 length to weight ratio, but they can also move up to a -11 or -10 depending on their personal strength and what they are comfortable swinging.
Angelique
Is this bat end loaded, or is it more balanced? Jeremy
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT15X will be a balanced bat.
Cameron
My son just turned 11. He is 4'7" and weighs 65 lbs. What drop to you think? The 30/18? Or do you recommend a different drop/bat? tournament dad
The best drop to get will really be dependent on the weight of the bat that they are currently using and how well they have handled this current/previous weight. Based on his height and weight, a 29 or 30 inch bat would be best. If the player just turned 11 then a -12 bat would still be a good option to consider and then go to -10 when the player turns 12.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
