What is the difference between this bat and the TPX Catalyst XL, other than the price?

This Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst (SL13C) Senior League bat features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter while the Catalyst XL (SC13CXL) offers the larger 2 3/4" barrel diameter. Aside from that, the bats are the same in design. But some leagues will not allow the use of a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.

Is this bat approved for kid pitching? or machine pitch? My sons are 6 & 8 years old but they are moving up to 9u baseball. No more coach pitch. Most of the bats in a 28" 18oz size with big barrels are not approved for kid pitch do to durability and all that. Is this bat ok to go?

Yes, the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst (SL13C) is approved for kid pitch.

could you use rubber balls with this bat

You could use the rubber dimple balls, but we would not recommend using the Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League with those balls. Those balls tend to damage the bat more than regular baseballs due to their density. Using these balls may also void the warranty on the bat.

We are going to purchase the TPX Catalyst (from you) for spring 2014 play in our local PONY league. I looked at this bat in a local store and found the BPF 1.15 stamp conforms to requirements, as well as 2 5/8" being legal, but did not have the stamp "approved for play in Little League, PONY, Dixie, etc". Is this bat considered legal in most PONY leagues? I know I need to check with our local director, but I need an experts input as well. Thanks.

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League is legal in PONY League. Only 2 1/4" barrel bats require the stamp, "approved for play in Little League, PONY, Dixie".

Your son needs a 29" bat. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League is a very hot bat and would be a great choice for your son.

My son is 13 I am going to get him a bat. He said he wants 31" 19 oz. bat and fully composite and since he is on 2 teams he wants a durable bat. Reading the reviews it breaks a lot my son is 5' and weighs 95. Would you recommend this bat or a different one?

Based on the number of units sold, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C actually has slightly above average durability and would be a great option for your son.

I am considering this bat for my 10 year old son. He is 4'9" and weighs 70 lbs. Would you recommend this bat or go with the heavier one? He swings a 28" 19 oz. DeMarini Vendetta right now. He has a pretty good swing, but not sure if the swing speed is there. Every once in a while he hits it great.

The recommended size for your son is a 29"-30" bat length. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League bat would be an great choice. The -12 sizing would ensure him a very balanced easy to swing feel.

My son is 12, playing on 2 teams this Spring and Summer: Babe Ruth and 12U travel ball, two different size fields. He has used a 31"/18.5 oz. 2.25" Catalyst full composite for the small diamond for a year with great success, and plans to use that this year too for the 12U team. Would this SL13C be a good bat for him for Babe Ruth big field this year or do you have a suggestion since he has to adjust to using both fields?

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League is an excellent bat. However, we recommend to increase the weight of the bat as a player gets older. The Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL12C Senior League would be a better option for his age. It is available in a 31" 20 oz.

What is the difference between this bat and the Z-1000? I am trying to decide between the two and can not see any difference.

Both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League bat and the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000: SL12Z Senior League bat are fully composite designs. The Z-1000 features LS-2X composite and the Catalyst features C1C composite. Here is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/

Regarding break-in of a composite bat, some say soft toss and tee work should be used, but I have read where several say live pitching of at least 40mph should be used for breaking in a composite bat (rotating the bat between hits). Will either method work, or is one truly perferred over the other?

Manufactures recommend to break in the bat with soft toss and tee work. Composite bats should not be used in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls. They can damage the composite materials. Live pitching could be used to break in a bat, however we recommend soft toss and tee work.

Is this a Pony League Legal Bat? I just purchased a 27" 15 oz. for my 8 year old boy and realized it did not have a Pony league "stamp".

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst is an approved bat for Pony League as long as it has the "1.15 BPF" stamp on the bat and it has a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. If you purchased the "senior league" bat then it will not be legal because it has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter but if you purchased the "youth" model then it will be legal for Pony League.

I am trying to decide between the 2013 TPX Catalyst in the 28" 16 oz. and the 2013 Easton S1. My son is in a coach pitch league. Can the Catalyst be used in coach pitch?

The 2013 TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League is a one piece composite bat whereas the Easton S1 Senior League bat is a two piece composite design. If you are looking for a coach pit bat, I would refer to the Junior Big Barrel bats as these are designed for players eight and younger.

Torn between this and the Triton. What's the difference? Both are composite, both are Louisville Sluggers, both are 2 5/8 inch barrell, and both are drop 12. Thanks

The biggest difference is the composite materials. The C1C composite used in the Catalyst is just as high performing as the X-1 composite in the Triton, but will be stronger and more durable.

I have the 2012 Demarini Voodoo 28"- 12oz. It is very top heavy how does this bat compare?

Yes, the 2012 DeMarini Voodoo will have that end loaded feel in the barrel. It also has that two-piece hybrid design. The handle is made of composite materials while the barrel is made up of all alloy. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C Senior League bat will be a one-piece designed bat made up of 100% composite fibers. It will feature Louisville Slugger's Ultra-Lightweight Design. Both bats come with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
