Description

The Z-1000 BBCOR bat uses unconventional and innovative technology to put the POP back in adult baseball bats! The TPS Z-1000 returns as one of the most revolutionary baseball bats on the market today! The Z-1000 employs S1 iD Technology that allows the barrel to flex to its maximum allowable performance level from SWING 1. Two inner discs are positioned inside the barrel at the sweetspot to stop the barrel from from flexing past the legal limit. For players, this means they really do get MAXIMUM performance allowable and a larger performing sweetspot. Louisville Slugger introduces a new composite structure to the Z-1000 called LS-2X Composite. This thinner, high-strength and lightweight graphite fiber blend allows for reduced wall thickness, creating better performance while maintaining durability. The thinner fibers have allowed Louisville Slugger to use more layers in the barrel for added strength, but with an overall wall thickness that is thinner. With an balanced swing weight, the Z-1000 is built for power and control. For added performance the Z-1000 has a Louisville Slugger end cap and a 31/32" tapered handle with a synthetic grip. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The Z-1000 is BBCOR Certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. This bat comes with a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Pros: Swung this bat in spring ball after my college bought some. Bat feels great. Very balanced. Having swung other BBCOR bats I would say this is the closest any have felt to a BESR bat. Very good pop. When you square the ball up bat feels great. I don't know if these will break in like old comp bats, but if it does watch out.

Cons: $369.99 is a little steep, but so far I feel it has been worth every penny.

Pros: Having used the DeMarini CF4 for so long and then purcased the New 2012 VooDoo Black... I can honestly say that the TPX has a bit more pop and the ball flys better than most, so far this is the top bat that I have swung and am very happy with the results

Pros: ill actually give a good review because im an actual baseball player. and have actually used this bat. The z1000 is one of the better bbcor bats out there. the best in my eyes are the marucci, z1000, and voodoo. the surge and easton and cf5 are garbage. one piece bats will raise to the top it bbcors

Cons: small sweetspot like all bbcors

Pros: Very nice bat with great balance. My son has always used a DeMarini bat but liked this one a little better. Still uses the Demarini wood bbcor bat. As with all bbcor bats, you have to square up the ball to drive it. Good hitters will be rewarded with solid hits that mirror the besr bats. For those looking to the bat to provide the trampoline effect, this is not the bat.Hit the weight room.

Cons: My son is still getting used to the grip.

Pros: Great composite bat. It was in my top three favorites with the easton s1, and demarini cf5. No sting what so ever. Big sweet spot, and hardly any vibration if it was a jammer. Best tpx by far

Cons: Very end loaded, feels heavier then the weight listed. For 30 dollars more you can get a comp. bat the same as this but a two piece and way faster swing

Pros: what I like about this bat, is if you hit the ball in the small sweet spot area, ball travels far. Thats about it as far as pros on this bat.

Cons: advertise as no sting is false, if not hit good, bat stings. I thought this bat would have a huge sweet spot, but was wrong, it has a small sweet spot. Price is also high, would have expected a lot more from this bat. :(

Pros: Apparance

Cons: Bought a demo for my son mid way through the summer last year. Was not impressed. Sounds dead and the ball did not appear to have the speed coming off this bat that it does off either of his Maruccis or the Rip It that he's hit with. Does it require a lengthy break-in period?

Pros: Great Pop out of the wrapper. Balanced weight when swinging. Bat feels very good, although grip wears very quickly.

Cons: 1st bat lasted about 600 hits, before cap came loose and I had to send it back. Louisville Slugger replaced the bat and the one I have now does not seem the same. Ball doesn't fly like with the other bat and if I don't hit right on the sweet spot, the bat sounds as though its cracked (eventhough it's not). Currently looking for a replacement because I do not think it will last much longer!

Pros: This bat is absolutely AMAZING! I am mostly a contact hitter, so my bat had to be balanced for swing speed. This Bat...WOW....not onlyl is it incredibly balanced the Huge sweetspot has increased my distance and ball exit speed considerably. It is very forgiving and gives you great performance over a very large surface. Grip is very good to.

Cons: I dont have any cons, the sound is....unique i guess. It isnt a ping at all, sort of a wood sound, it takes some getting used to but i really have no problem with it.

Pros: just bought the z1000 and cf5 demarini, my 14yr old swings the z1000 and loves it! my 15yr swings the cf5, omg! most incredibly balanced drop 3 we have had! compared to the exogrid which seems to be more end loaded the cf5 and z1000 are comparable but the cf5 has a noticeably more balanced feel. i don't think there is a better bat out there right now than the cf5, my kids have 5 more years of high school baseball and we will be using the cf5 for many years to come! and furthermore, justbats has been awesome to buy from i will and have recommended just bats to all my friends!

Pros: Very good bat. Lots of pop and cool design. Composite so i recommend not using it in cold weather.

Cons: Some problems are that on the 30/18 design the barrel, (lengthwise) is fairly small. Also, on the same design the bat that i got was shorter than 30 in. not huge problem but can sometimes affect hitting on the outside pitches. Like i said, the cold weather could make the bat sting a little in your hands.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB12Z? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

When is the release date? DLT
We are expecting to receive the first shipment on 3/22/2011.
Jeff
Is the barrel of the bat composite? slugger101
Yes. This is a 100% composite bat that is BBCOR certified.
Brett
Is this bat for power hitters or contact hitters? I've been told that top heavy bats are better for power hitters, and that "even feeling" composite bats are more for contact hitters. I would like to know what the optimum bat, or type of bat, is for a power hitter Joe
It depends on your comfort level and ablity to swing a slightly end-loaded bat. I it's more about one-piece versus two-piece bats when determining what's best for a power hitter or contact hitter. This is a stiff, one-piece bat that will be great for a power hitter.
JH
Why is this bat made for a power hitter if it is a stiff, one-piece? Also, what is the best bat for a contact hitter? Thanks! Robthepitcher
Traditionally, true power hitters who generate a lot of natural power and high swing speeds prefer stiffer bats. This is because they flex less through the hitting zone. If a strong player who generates high swing speed uses a two-piece bat with a lot of flex, then he'll probably generate too much flex causing decreased control of the bat head. Too much flex can be detrimental. Contact hitters who ofter prefer two-piece bats with more flex. These not just one that better than the others, but the DeMarin CF5, Easton Omen, DeMarini Voodoo and Nike BT0633 are all good options.
TJ
I am looking for a fairly well balanced bat with a decent sized sweet spot. The main bats I have been looking at are the z1000, Baum Bats, Exo, Demarinis Voodoo and CF5, and the Omen. I am 5'7" and swing a 33 TK
The Z-1000 is going to have a balanced swing weight and will have great pop. It will have more flex and uses the newest and best composite materials out there.
K.B.
What sound does the bat make when ball makes contact on the bat? THE PLAYA
There is actually an audio link on our website. On the product page there is an audio link that looks like a speaker on the top right side of the main product image. If you click this link you will be able to hear what the bat sounds like.
Brett
how well balanced is this bat compared to the TPX Exogrid or TPX Omaha? Robtheoitcher19
The Z-1000 is a very balanced bat similar to the Omaha. I've heard a few customers say that they think the Exogrid is a little more end-loaded, but the difference isn't very noticeable in my opinion.
John
What is the difference between the Z-1000 and the newest BBCOR Exo-Grid. Rob
The Z-1000 will be a one piece bat having the LS-2X Composite. The Exogrid2 will be a one piece alloy bat using Louisvilles AC21 Scandium Alloy.
John
could you rank which you think personally which is best out of these z 1000, exogrid, cat 5, rawlings 5150 hi
In order of my personal preference 1. Z1000 2. Cat5 3. Exogrid 4. 5150
Linda
Which one of these bats have the least amount of flex and is not end heavy? The TPX Z1000, CF5 or exo JAB
The Exogrid will have the least amount of flex and feel the most balanced out of the three
Sean
does it meet ussaa rules for high school ball. i looked on the list by the nfhs list and didnt see it rick
This is a BBCOR certified bat and is 100% legal for High School play. Adult bats like this one aren't required to have the USSSA stamp, as long as they're BBCOR certified they're good to go.
TJ
Whats the difference between the TPX Z-1000 and the Demarini CF5? DJ
The Z-1000 is going to be stiffer because it is a one piece composite bat. It will not require a break in period because of the •SWING 1 inner Disc (S1 iD) Technology. The CF5 will provide more flex because it is a two piece composite design. The CF5 will require a break in period. Both bats are top of the line and will perform very similar.
K.B.
i have heard people say you can hear a rattling sound in them like something is loose. why is that. jd
That means that some of the material has become loose inside. This does not hurt the bat and will be more of an annoying sound.
KG
What temperature is too cold to hit with this bat? zz
With the Louisville Slugger TPX z-1000 being a one piece composite design the minimum temperature is 55 degrees.
Brad
I read that there is no break in required due to the technology, so will this bat keep it's "pop" longer than alloy so I can get 2 years use out of it? Jim
That is true. There is no break in required for this bat. It will still keep it's pop, and with proper care you should be able to get a couple seasons out of this bat.
Jennifer
Is this bat more balanced in a 33/30 or a 32/29? kswizle
Comparing one size to another in the same model won't change the balance of the bat. Both sizes are similar in balance.
Tyler
Was looking at the Z-1000 for my son, but he is more a contact hitter than power hitter. Seems a 2 piece bat makes more sense? Can you suggest a few options? BB
A two-piece bat would better suit a contact hitter. Some of our best selling two-piece adult bats are the Easton S1 or S2, Easton XL1 or XL2, DeMarini Voodoo, or the Marucci Black.
Jennifer
I understand that this bat is BBCOR but I play in a lot of USSSA travel tournaments and I was wondering if this bat was USSSA certified too. Thanks! nwterror43
Any BBCOR approved bat can be used in USSSA leagues. BBCOR bats are -3 Adult bats only.
Kris
Like other composite bats will there be a break in for this bat and will it continue to gain pop? JfID
Louisville Slugger claims the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR does not require a break in period because of the inner Disc Technology. It will still continue to gain pop, just like any other composite bat.
Kara
Can the Z-1000 BB12Z be used in Junior baseball, ages 13-15? Matt
Yes. In Junior baseball, any BBCOR bat can be used and is a legal bat. The BB12Z is a BBCOR bat and can be used in your league.
Kris
Is this legal in babe ruth 13-15 year old division? jack
Yes. The Z-1000 BB12Z is approved for play in the 13-15 year old Babe Ruth division.
Tyler
Would you recommend the Z1000 or CF5 based on sweetspot pop and durability? Cj
That all depends on the hitter. For a stronger hitter with good swing speed, I would recommend the Z1000 as it's a one piece bat with a stiffer design. For a hitter with average power and swing speed, I would recommend the CF5 as it is a two piece design that will offer more flex. Both are going to be pretty durable bats with similar size sweetspots.
Tyler
I am 5'7" 127 pounds that can hit for both power and contact, which bat would you prefer, this one, the exo grid2 BBX12EX2, or the exo grid2 BB12EX2? Stevie Dog
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is a one-piece composite bat with a balanced swing weight. This will make it the most durable and most suited for a contact hitter. The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 BBCOR: BBX12EX2 is a one-piece alloy bat with a stiff flex handle making it most suited for a power hitter. The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID2 BBCOR: BB12EX2 will be the middle ground between the other two bats.
Nick D
Does the Z-1000 have the same ring problem as the Exogrid2? Hunsie
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 has not had the issue with the ring coming loose like the Exogrid2.
Kara
Would this bat be better, or the Easton Surge for a contact hitter with moderate power? #7
Both bats are going to be balanced for a contact hitter. The TPX Z-1000 will have more pop because it is a one piece composite, whereas the barrel on the Surge is alloy.
Damon
I'm 14 I use a 33in/30oz -3 bat and I'm a power hit should I use this bat? handyman
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z would be a good bat for any hitter. It is a high performing composite bat with a balanced swing weight that allows for superior bat control. If power is your main focus, I would go for an endloaded bat.
Nick D
Is the 2012 z1000 bbcoe end loaded or balanced? Is it as balanced as the 2012 voodoo bbcor chadini
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is a balanced bat. It is going to be more balanced than the 2012 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR: DXVDC.
Nick D
What happened to 33" 30 Oz option for TPX Z-1000? Shado
If the Louisville TPX Z-1000 does not show the 33" 30 oz on the website we are out of stock in that size.
Damon
what would be a better bat for a powerhitter z-100 or exo2 big brad
The Exogrid2 would be a better fit for a power hitter, because it will have more of an endload and a stiffer flex handle than the Z-1000.
Nick D
Does Louisville Slugger make a 33.5in model of this bat? willy
No. The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult was never produced in a 33.5" model.
Tyler
Would the Easton XL3 be a better bat than the Z-1000 for a power hitter with good bat speed? DP
Both bats would be great options for a power hitter cause they are one-piece bats that are stiff at contact. The Easton XL3 is a one-piece fully aluminum bat, whereas the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 is a one-piece fully composite bat. Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
My 16 yr old son loved the 2011 Voodoo (white) and is now looking at teh TPXZ-1000 or the the Exogrid. He is a gap to gap line drive hitter with power. Which bat would you recommend for him? Slash
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same bat or type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to continue to have success at the plate. Because of this, I would absolutely recommend the Voodoo since it sounds like he had success with it in the past.
Tyler
Do you know if a 2013 version of this bat is coming out soon? joe
Unfortunately, we have not received any specific details on Louisville's 2013 line. They should be released late this year (October - November).
Tyler
What bat would you prefer to a contact hitter? The TPX Z-1000 or the DeMarini Voodoo 2011? robster
Both are great bats. The DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece bat that will be more suited more for a contact type hitter.
Nick
When will the 2013 model come out at what will the price be? j
Louisville Slugger will be releasing its 2013 line of bats in October or November and they have not disclosed what the price will be.
Tom
What does the 2013 model look like? j
Louisville Slugger has not yet released to us their new 2013 one piece composite design.
Zach
Is this bat legal for use in Pony league. If not what would you recommend? Max
The legality of this bat would depend on which division of the Pony League you would be playing in. Here is a link to their website which give the bat rules for the different divisions. http://www.pony.org/home/default.asp?menu_category=Baseball
Tom
I am trying to decide on a bat for my son who will be going into High School this year and I need to get him a BBCOR bat. He is about 5'9" and 150 lbs and is a contact hitter. Trying to decide if I should get him a Z1000 or EXOGRID 2 or one of the other bats available. miller
Both the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 and the EXOGRID2 would be excellent options. The main difference is that the TPX Z-1000 would be a one-piece fully composite bat, whereas the EXOGRID 2 is a one-piece fully aluminum bat with composite inserts in the handle.
Tom
I am 5'7 14 years old going into high school contact and power hitter. Should I get the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 or 2012 DeMarini Vexxum? Hunter
The TPX Z-1000 is a top of the line one-piece fully composite bat, whereas the DeMarini Vexxum is a two-piece hybrid design (composite handle/aluminum barrel). Both bats will work great for a contact hitter who also hits with power.
Tom
Is this bat a 2012 model or 2013? If it is 2012, when do the 2013 bats come out? john50
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR is the 2012 model. The 2013 models will come out in November.
Nick
My son used this bat this summer. Good bat. I notice now that there is a big vibration when he hits it near the end of the bat. Also when you tap the barrel on the dirt it vibrates something awful. The warranty is still in effect. I think there may be something wrong with the inside of the bat. Scott Johnson
As long as the bat is still within the 1 year warranty period, you would be able to return it to the manufacturer for a replacement. You will need to have a copy of the receipt to give them some information on the purchase. You can contact Lousiville at 1-800-282-2287.
Derek
I'm 5'9 135 lbs and I am a contact and power hitter. Even though a 32 inch Z-1000 is recommended, do you think a 31 inch would be good for me for a year or two? g
A 31" bat would be good for at least a year.
Kara
When does the Z1000 2013 model come out? 24
Louisville Slugger will not be coming out with a 2013 TPX Z-1000. The 2013 Louisville Slugger Attack bat will be replacing the 2012 model. It will be available mid November.
Noah
I am a freshmen in High school, I am 5'10 and I weigh in at 130 pounds. Do you think the 32/29 would be right fore me, and do you think this is a good bat to buy for a contact hitter. My Easton s3 broke in 3 months. Max
Based on your height and weight, a 32" 29 oz. BBCOR bat is recommended. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is an excellent choice for it's pop and durability.
Tyler
I am 5'10 and 167 pounds and I am wondering what length and weight should be good for me, also can i use this bat in usssa club baseball 15u? Gordo
A 33" model is recommended based on your size. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is BBCOR certified and approved in USSSA.
Tyler
When will the 2013 model come out? Eric
The Z-1000 is a discontinued model and will not be produced for 2013.
Tyler
I am 13 playing 15u and I need a bbcor bat. Will this bat have a fast swing speed or is it top heavy? Eric
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is a balanced bat.
Tyler
If I am 6' 7", what size bat should I use? Goon squad
At 6' 7", I would recommend a 34" Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR bat.
Doug F.
I'm buying this bat for my brother. He is 5'7 and 145 lbs. What size should I get for him? t.j.
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 32" Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z.
Kara
i am 5'4'' what bat size should i get? keegs
I recommend our Bat Coach. It's a great tool: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
What will have a lighter swing weight the Z1000 or the 2013 Voodoo? fval25
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult will have a lighter swing weight. The 2013 Voodoo is end loaded.
Kara
My son is 15 and a freshman he is 5'10 185lbs, what bat size should i get him? lil tank 1
A 33" bat is recommended based on his size.
Tyler
I'm looking for a 34"-28 oz., Do you have it on stock? Jose
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult bat will only come in -3 sizing as do all BBCOR bats. This bat in a 34" will be 31 oz. in weight.
Brandon
This is our first year where BBCOR is required and I'm trying to decide between the EXOGRID and the Z-1000. My son is 14yrs old 6'0 165lbs. He used the TPX H2 31/26 last year and loved it. Which would you suggest? bill
Both are great bats, with excellent pop. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult will require a break-in because it is composite. The 2013 EXOGRID 3 will feel more similar to the TPX H2 and will not require a break-in period.
Kara
My son weighs 180, is 5' 7'' benches 225. Has had the Voodoo 33'' and has batted .350. Will this bat be good for him? Bet
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. However, it sounds like he's a good ballplayer, and the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is a great bat he should have good success with.
Tyler
Compared to the 2012 Vexxum, is this bat better balanced? What about the S3? CARDSFAN
All are very balanced in swing weight. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult bat will be made up of a one-piece all composite design. The S3 will be a one-piece all alloy design. The Vexxum will be a two-piece composite handle and alloy barrel design. According to www.JustBats.com the most popular in order of these three BBCOR bats is the Easton S3, DeMarini Vexxum, then the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000.
Brandon
Why is it better for a power hitter to swing a one-piece design bat? Bb
The reason it is suggested for power hitters to swing the one piece is because there is less flex in a one piece than a two piece. For instance, on a power hitters swing the barrel on a two piece may not have time to rebound before crossing the strike zone, therefore not producing max pop out of the bat.
Derek
My son has a Z-1000 33/30 and has hit OK with it, but I'm wondering how it compares to the 2013 Louisville Slugger -3 BBCOR line-up? Thanks! Joe
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR has been replaced with the new Louisville Slugger TPX Attack BBCOR. The major difference in the two is that the Attack is a two-piece bat and the Z-1000 is a one-piece bat. They are both constructed of the same LS-2X composite.
Damon
I have been looking at this bat as a possible option for my son. Are they discontinuing this model due to reliability issues? My son plays H.S. freshman ball and is a contact hitter. He's 5'11" 150 lbs. I read that the newer version of this bat is the Attack, and a two-piece design. Can you tell me which would be better for his style of hitting? Are there better options other than these two? Boomer
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult bat would be a great selection at it's current price of $89.99. It is a one-piece all composite design. The new 2013 Louisville Slugger Attack BBCOR is also awesome. It is a two-piece all composite model. The Attack will have a lighter swing weight, and be super balanced. Either one would be a great choice.
Brandon
Does this bat require a break-in period? If it does, how many hits till it is broken in? jg3
Being that the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult is a composite bat. It will need a break in period. We suggest 200 hits. In between each hit, turn the bat a quarter of a inch to get all points of the barrel.
Chad M
You are saying that there is a break-in period and Lousiville Slugger says that there is no need to break it in. Which one do I go with? I'm a bit confused. Freshman Baseball Player
Most composite bats do require a break-in period. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult is the exception because it has Swing 1 inner Disc Technology which does not require a break-in.
Frank
Why is this bat so cheap now? Swoop
The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z Adult is an older model, so we are offering it at a discounted price.
Marcus

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
