Description

The Louisville Slugger Vertex XL is back with a new look and an upgrade to enhance your batting average this season! This year's Vertex XL design utilizes Louisville Slugger's latest Pure 360 Composite, which uses thinner high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers to create the optimal feeling handle. These thinner fibers allow for more layers, giving the Vertex added stiffness and durability. The handle of the Vertex is actually stiffer than last year's EXOGRID, which allows more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and, ultimately, greater performance! The barrel of the Vertex XL is constructed using AC21 Scandium Alloy. Combined with composite materials, the AC21 Scandium Alloy ensures thinner walls with outstanding durability and unmatched performance. The Vertex XL has a synthetic cushioned grip on the 7/8 inch standard handle to give baseball players an unbeatable feeling of confidence when they step up to the plate. Louisville Slugger: Leave Your Mark! The Vertex XL Senior League bat features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Best -10 SL bat 10U Travel Team Coach coach

Pros: We've tried just about everything and this is the best Senior League -10 bat out there. Little to no vibration and great pop and large sweet spot. Several boys fell for the Mako hype but all have put it away and most have gone to the Vertex.

Cons: None so far. Loved last year's model also.

The 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL (SLVT14-RX) will be similar to the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum (DXVXR) in that they are both balanced hybrid designs. However, the Vertex would be a more seamless design that would not offer as much flex as a Vexxum. The Vertex also has a bigger 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter.

Is this bat with a 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter okay to use in 10U kid pitch? C
The rules can vary on whether a 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter bat like the 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) can be used. The best thing to do would be to ask your coach or a league official whether they have barrel diameter restrictions.
Patrick
My son loves his 2013 Omaha. It is all worn out. What bat could I get that would be real similar, without buying another Omaha? I would like as similar as possible. Thanks. dozer
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) will not feel like the Omaha. The closest bat comparison from Louisville Slugger to the Omaha bat is the 2014 Assault bat. They will both feature the same one-piece fully alloy design. They both will also feel very balanced in swing weight.
Brandon
Is there a difference between this bat and the new 715 Select bat that will be coming out later for the Youth/SL big barrel? tval1
Yes. While the 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) is a seamless hybrid design, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLS715X) will feature a clear transition point in the form of the TRU3 connection piece. This piece will allow for more flex and better sting and vibration protection.
Patrick
My son just turned 8 and is 52 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds. He is playing strictly club ball and I was wondering what size would be good for him in the big barrel? His regular bat is 29 inches 17 ounces. Big Easy
Based on your son's height and weight we would suggest a 29 inch bat length. If the size he has is working well for him, there are a few big barrel options that would come in the 29 inch 17 ounce size like the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT15X).
Patrick
Is this bat end loaded or would you say it is a balanced bat? My son is playing 12U, but he is very small for his age so I try to stay away from end loaded bats. john
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) will feature a balanced swing weight.
Tom
Is it safe to use this bat if it's below 55 degrees? Mike
We do not recommend using any bat if it is colder than 55 degrees. The temperature effects the balls, not the bat, however, there is a higher number of damaged bats reported when the temperate is under 55 degrees. To be safe, I would not use your 2014 Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) in below 55 degree weather.
Allison
My son is in a 9-U kid pitch league, but is 58" tall and 85 lbs. Would you recommend this style of bat or one like the Easton S3 Senior League Baseball Bat that is an all alloy bat? brett
Based upon your son's height and weight, we would suggest a Youth Big Barrel/Senior League Bat in the 30" length. If you were looking to make a weight increase from the model he swung last year, we usually only recommend weight increases of 1 or 2 ounces between seasons (however, if you feel he is ready to make a larger weight increase we support your decision since you watch his swing most closely). In general, we do not prefer a certain construction over another. This Louisville Slugger Vertex XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVT14-RX) will come with a hybrid construction (composite handle and alloy barrel) and be balanced. If you were to compare it to the Easton S3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14S310B), you would notice that both barrels are made from alloy and both will have a balanced swing weight. I believe you guys would be satisfied with either selection!

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
