Questions and Answers for Rawlings 5150 VELO: YBVELO Youth
My son is changing from using big barrel to using a 2 1/4". He currently swings a 30" 20 oz. Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha. I don't know if I should stay with the 30" or go longer, due to the weight.
The Rawlings 5150 VELO (YBVELO Youth) would be a very light weight and balanced bat option. The most recommended sizing in this bat compared to your previous 30/20 Omaha would be a 31/18 or a 32/19.
My son is 4'8" and his weight is 102 lbs. What size bat should he use?
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" 17 oz. Rawlings 5150 VELO (YBVELO).
My son is 10 and a half years old going into Spring ball. He's a little small. He is around 4 foot 10 and weighs around 60 pounds. I'm thinking of going with a 29 inch bat. Is it better to err short or long? This bat seems light.
The 29 inch size of the Rawlings 5150 VELO (YBVELO) Youth bat sounds like a good option for your son. Based on his height and weight we would suggest a range between 29 and 31 inches. It is important not to go too long to where the bat would feel too heavy to the player. However, you also want to go long enough that they are able to have good plate coverage. The 29 or 30 inch sizes would probably be best given the VELO's balanced swing weight.

My son used for two years the Plasma Rawlings 30" -13 bat and was really satisfied with it. It is a nice and durable bat and we are happy we chose it out. He's 60 inches high and weighs 82 lbs. Now he gradually needs a 31" bat and we are thinking of sticking to Rawlings alloy bats, but taking the Velo instead. What are the major differences between the two bats, except for the price?
The 2013 Rawlings 5150 VELO: YBVELO Youth uses a higher grade of alloy than the Rawlings Plasma. This provides more durability and a higher performing bat.
Is there a difference between a drop 13 and a drop 10 besides just the weight? Are they made different?
The -13 and -10 Rawlings 5150 VELO both use the same high-performing 5150 alloy. The main difference will be the weight like you mentioned and the barrel diameter as well. The -13 will be a 2 1/4" barrel, the -10 will be a 2 5/8" barrel.
