Does the Easton MAKO or the VELO have more pop?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) and the 2014 Easton MAKO BBCOR (BB14MK) are both very high performing bats. The one-piece design of the VELO is best for a power hitter. The two-piece design of the MAKO is better suited for a contact hitter.

I'm a smaller player and I prefer a light bat, but I have quick hands and hit for a lot of double to triple power. Would the Easton MAKO or Rawlings VELO be a better fit for me, or should I go with a heavier bat like a XL?

For a player who likes a quick bat and has some power, the Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) is the best option. The one-piece, balanced design is ideal a player with power.

I'm 6'3 and 240 lbs, is the 34-31 a good bat for a power hitter? or is it more of a contact bat

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR: (BBVELO) will be an excellent choice for a power hitter. The one-piece design and 5150 alloy material will be an ideal structure and material for power players. This model is also very balanced making it easy to create a fast swing speed, and will allow for maximum performance. The VELO has been highly reviewed and is extremely high quality. This model will be able to provide a lot of great pop, and momentum.

I have this VELO baseball bat. I am wondering if I should use it in weather that is 45 degrees and below?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO), like most other bats, can see some durability issues in weather below 55 degrees. At this point, the core of the baseball can actually condense and become harder, making it a different product entirely. The way these hardened baseballs react with the bat can cause denting or breakage.

Is the Rawlings VELO balanced the same as the Rawlings TRIO?

Yes, the Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) features a very similar swing as the Rawlings TRIO. The main difference is the TRIO will feature a composite handle which allows for more flex and whipping action during the swing.

I am 5'5" and 120 pounds. I am stronger than most kids my size and usually swing a 32/29. Is this a good size for me?

Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) Adult. However, if you think you can handle the extra length and weight, a 32" will work as well.

Jason Expert ·Mar 29, 2014

I am 5'5 165 pounds, what size do you recommend? I use a 32/29 but I feel like I can use a 33/30.

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) Adult would be perfect for you in that 32/29. However, if you are comfortable with a 33" you can also swing that.

My son is playing his first year of Intermediate (50/70) ball and had to switch to a big barrel bat. We bought the DeMarini CF6 since he has had the CF5 and CF4 previously. Unfortunately, we are having a very cold spring and it has been in the 40s at several games. Last night we were told bat warmers are no longer allowed. I'm thinking I should get him an alloy bat for use in the cages and cold weather? Since I just spent a small fortune on the CF6 do you think something like the Rawlings VELO would suffice? It needs to be BBCOR. Also he is 5'2" and 110 lbs. He is using a 32" bat now. Is that too long?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) is a high performing bat. It is a great alternative to a composite bat. We recommend a 30" bat based on his height and weight.

Its my first year using bbcor and I'm a contact hitter, I'm not the biggest guy only 5'4, and I was wondering is this a good bat for me as a contact hitter. Also what other contact hitting bats do you recommend

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) would be an ideal bat for a contact hitter. It creates a balanced swing feel with an even weight distribution throughout the barrel. Another good option with an extremely balanced feel is be the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR (DXVXC). Both are engineered to maximize swing speed without forgoing performance capabilities.

Would you recommend Easton S4 over this VELO? My son is a power hitter and just want to make sure we make the right choice.

My son just received his 32" Rawlings VELO BBCOR. He is 5'11" and weighs about 150 pounds. He has average swing speed. The bat is so well balanced and swings so light, would a 33" length have been more appropriate?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) is a very balanced bat. A 32" bat is the recommended size for his height and weight. However, if he has good bat speed, he could move up to a 33' 30 oz.

Kara Expert ·Feb 10, 2014

82773

Which bat will perform better? This bat or the 2013 Demarini Vexxum?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult bat will be a one-piece fully alloy bat. It will be very light and balanced in swing weight. The 2013 DeMarini Vexxum will be a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The VELO should swing lighter than the 2013 Vexxum.

Brandon Expert ·Feb 04, 2014

How does this compare to the 2014 Rawlings Trio?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) Adult is a one-piece alloy design and the Rawlings Trio is a three-piece hybrid design with a composite handle, alloy barrel, and composite end cap. The VELO and the Trio have balanced swing weights, but the VELO has a stiffer feel because of the one-piece design.

Jason Expert ·Feb 02, 2014

82220

How does this bat compare to the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID?

It depends on the particular model of EXOGRID that you're comparing it to, but the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: (BBVELO) Adult bat is more balanced than most versions of EXOGRID bats. The VELO and EXOGRID both offer stiff flexes, but the EXO would help reduce sting in the player's hands with the composite inserts in its handle. The EXOGRID 3 was by many accounts one of the more balanced versions of that Series and would be more similar in feel to the VELO.

Mac Expert ·Jan 26, 2014

82177

How does the 2013 VELO match up against the 2014 5150? Based on their descriptions they seem relatively the same.

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: (BBVELO) Adult features a Comp-Lite end cap that makes it more balanced than the 2013 5150 BBCOR. For the 2014 version of the 5150, Rawlings has given the 5150 a composite end cap of its own. However, the 2013 VELO will still offer a slightly lower MOI than the 5150 models. Aside from the end cap and balance differences, the 5150 and VELO are made from the same materials and offer the same design.

Mac Expert ·Jan 25, 2014

I'm 6'3 210, should i get the Velo or 5150?

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: (BBVELO) and 5150 would both be great options. The main difference is that the VELO is slightly more balanced with its composite end cap. The 5150 is also a very solid choice that is balanced, but the VELO is the higher quality model. It really comes down to your preference toward swing weight and your price range.

What is the difference between the VELO and the TRIO? When will the price of the TRIO be going down?

The Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBVELO) is a one-piece aluminum design. The Rawlings TRIO BBCOR (BBTRIO) a three-piece hybrid design. The price of the TRIO will be reduced when Rawlings releases it from their adjusted price.

How could you compare the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO to the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult? Which one would you recommend?

Both are good bats. The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO will be more balanced than the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX. The carbon composite inserts on the Exogrid will help to cut down on vibration.

79568

Would you suggest this bat or the Easton mako?

The Mako bat would be the better perfomer, but would require that break-in period. Positive for the Velo is that it is game ready out of the wrapper, and the 2013 model is on sale from $299.99 down to $149.99. It depends on what kind of weather you will be playing in as well. The composite material the Mako is constructed out of really should not be played with in weather any colder than 55 degrees. The Velo can be used in the colder climates.

Derek Expert ·Dec 09, 2013

Is this more balanced than the 5150?

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult is more balanced the the 2013 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: BBCA2 Adult due to the Comp-Lite composite end cap that takes some weight out of the barrel.

I am 5'10'', 210 pounds and I am considered a power hitter, but I can also hit for contact. I bought a 34 inch Marucci Cat 5 and haven't been getting the barrel around on inside pitches, but I have an above average bat speed. Is that length too long for me? Would this bat be a good choice?

Based on your height and weight, we would recommend a 33'' bat. The 34'' may be too long and be the reason you are having trouble getting the barrel around on inside pitches. The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult would be a good choice because it will have a low M.O.I to help increase swing speed, but it is still a one-piece bat which is good for power hitters.

Hi I am a 6,1ft. 190lb. 15yr. old. I will be going into my sophmore year this year. I don't know what classification I am. Either a power hitter or a contact hitter. I am sort of slow and I never get triples and I only get doubles off of errors or if I hit it to the fence. I can hit the ball hard and to the fence and I will probably hit it over this year. But at the same time I hardly ever strike out and I hit the ball in the gap, I am very good at getting on base and I have a great average. I have narrowed it down to 2 options of what I should buy. Either the 2013 Rawlings Velo or the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo. Can you help me out?

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult is a very balanced bat and would be better for a player who needs to increase their bat speed. The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo is end loaded and stiff, best suited for a power hitter.

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult is a high quality bat and is very durable. It's usually a good idea to go up at least an inch and an ounce every time you get a new bat.

I am mostly a contact hitter that can muscle out a double every once in a while. I also have pretty decent bat speed. Should I go with the Velo or 5150?

If you have above average bat speed, the 2013 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: BBCA2 would be recommended. If you have average or below average swing speed, the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO would be recommended.

It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, I would recommend sticking with the XL1 if you have had success with it. Based on your size, a 33" model is recommended.

What is a better bat for a power hitter, 2013 Rawlings 5150 or 2013 Rawlings Velo? (I'm also 6'1" 200 lbs.)

Most power hitters don't like a bat that is super well balanced like the Rawlings VELO. The VELO is better suited for hitters with average to below average strength and swing speed. The regular Rawlings 5150 would be a better choice for a true power hitter.

Both the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult and the 2013 DeMarini CF5 will swing very similar. The DeMarini will have more pop, since it is a two-piece composite. With the height and weight given we suggest that you use a 33" 30 oz. bat.

Also, I have the red Rawlings Velo right now but I've used it for a 150 games plus practices on top and the pop isn't there anymore.

I would suggest the Marucci Black 2. It is evenly balanced, has a huge sweet spot and it's two-piece technology hybrid design adds a flex to your swing to help you get through the zone faster, added more power to your ablities.

Isn't the Marucci Elite composite while the 5150s are alloy? I'm a contact hitter looking for that ping similar to the Marucci CAT 5. Which bat is closest would you think out of these?

The 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO Adult and the 2013 Marucci Elite BBCOR: MCBELI have an alloy barrel. The 2013 Marucci Elite BBCOR: MCBELI has a composite handle and three to four inches of composite material at the end of the barrel.
