Mako -9 Fernando Garza parent

Pros: My son plays 11u elite ball he is about 5'4" and weight 130lbs, I bought him the 32/23 Mako and he loves it. The first batting practice he used it he hit one off the fence and one over the fence. All the kids on the team were checking out the bat after practice.

Cons: None yet, just used it for one practice so far.

Nothing Special Pcrock parent

Pros: Good balance. Looks nice.

Cons: I bought two of these (30/21) for my 11U and 12U sons. They are good contact hitters with decent power. This bat has not performed as expected. Power numbers are down and pop off the bat just is not there (and, yes, we followed the normal break-in procedures for composite bats). They hit much better with their Rip-It bats and even the old Easton S3. One of my 12U's teammates also had one and noticed the same thing (and is no longer using). Not worth the money.

Hate it Robert parent

Pros: none

Cons: After nearly a full season with this bat we're giving up on it. Has more thud than pop. After another lackluster game, threw my son batting practice switching back and forth between his Mako and last years DeMarini Voodoo. He was clearly hitting the ball harder with the DeMarini. I know the Mako is balanced and the DeMarini is end loaded but expected much more pop out of the Mako. Just ordered a new Voodoo Overlord to finish out the season.

-9 Mako Big Barrel RJD parent

Pros: Looks good and swings easily.

Cons: I bought this for my 10/11 year old son and we are very disappointed. He loved his Mako -11 for Little League and was crushing to ball. I got this bat for travel ball and we compared the pop to his lighter mako and older Demarini Voodo. If I could return this bat, I definitely would. It just doesn't hit for much power for whatever reason. All of the other bats we were using hit for better power.

Almost impossible to break in scott parent

Pros: Good feel

Cons: I have 2 orange Mako's and they were smokin' hot out of the wrapper but this bat is totally different. I've made it my mission to get this bat as hot as the orange mako ( no rolling or shaving). Finally after 2000 hits its starting to get some pop. This composite material is hard to break down!

tricked again Avoid this bat parent

Pros: balance and feel

Cons: Easton makes great Little League bats - Mako 2 1/4 had tons of pop right out of wrapper. 2 5/8 version not so much, just as dead as the S1 series. Thought Mako 2 5/8 would be like their 2 1/4 bat and it is not.

Mako -9 Mr. White parent

Pros: Bought for my son for travel and he loves it. This baby has a massive sweet spot which the ball just flies off the barrel. Son just hit 3 Massive HR in his last Tournament Just bought him the Mako Torq but he loves to uses this one more!

Cons: Wish bat didn't have so much white, show ball marks way to easy. I also notice that it has more of a ping sound. I thought it was because it was new at first and needed to be broken in. But after a full Spring/Summer/and now fall ball that sound still appears. Sounds more like an alloy then composite.

Great bat no more dents for us! David parent

Pros: Super solid! My son plays 11U tournament baseball. The pitching is faster and the boys are starting to hit alot harder so we have about 4 dented aluminum bats in the dougout at all times love warranty programs! Bring in the MAKO...no dents..lots of solid hits. In fact my friend commenting on the price of the MAKO was saying, "this is like the cost of my new Driver" and pretended to make a golf swing hit the barrel on a piece of angle iron! I nearly fainted but it only chipped the paint. NO CRACK AND NO DENT. A BEAST of BAT!

Cons: Kids really need to strive for swing speed with this bat. I would err on the side of slightly smaller than they need. I have seen many kids not able to get around with the 29" my kid uses. Even the 28" feels heavier than most other bats of a similar length and weight. Other cons..IDK none that know of..we have used ours since last spring and now in the fall its still hitting hard.

Great Baseball Bat Joseph player

Pros: The 2014 Senior League Mako is a great baseball bat. It has great pop and a huge sweet spot while maintaining good swing weight.

Cons: I think that the bat could use a little more orange like the youth version. The senior league to me feels more like the xl1 because it feels quite endloaded, but maybe its just because it's heavier than the youth mako. Otherwise, the price, but you get what you pay for.

Not like the youth barrel Baseball Dad parent

Pros: Easy swing, Very Durable, Barrel length. This Bat isn't a bad bat, just don't expect the pop you have seen from youth barrel version. My son has the XL1 and Mako youth barrel, and hits both about 270 feet at 10u last year. the Big barrel Mako hits about 220 (same as distance with the Rip It far cheaper) . Wish the bat companies made bats as hot as the CF4 and B2 big barrels were in 2010. With those two Big Barrels still hits 270 and further.

Cons: None really, Not really end loaded as most companies now have switched to more balanced bats, Demarini VooDoo is about the only end loaded bat left.

Overrated Thad parent

Pros: Bright color

Cons: The Mako turned out to be a very expensive mistake. I bought into the hype. The orange color is a big hit with the kids but as far as performance goes, it has no pop at all - the ball looks and sounds dead coming off this bat. Bought one for my 12-year old son and his power numbers went way down so he took it out of his bag. I have sons on three different travel teams and every kid I know who bought one is no longer using it. I don't understand the good reviews unless people feel like they have to justify all the money they spent.

Easton Mako= Best Bat EVER Wilmot07 player

Pros: There is a lot of pop! It doesn't sting at all. I got it for the past season and hit 10 homeruns. The -9 is great for kids who are just getting out of -10 and the -8 is still a litle to heavy for them this bat is perfect.

Cons: The grip isn't very good but I swapped it out with a lizard skins and it feels better but overall AMAZING bat.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL14MK9? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Looking at the description, I am assuming this is a fully composite bat and is not legal for 13 year old Babe Ruth League. Is that correct? ty
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League is a two-piece fully composite design and is not legal for play in the 13 years old division Babe Ruth League. Composite bats for the 13 years old division require the BBCOR .50 certification stamp.
Jason
New technology 2014 . Obviously a better value to by 2013. With that in mind how would the new MAKO compare to the S1 as far as pop? Liana
The 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League and the Easton S1 both use top of the line composite materials, for great pop. The TCT Thermo Composite used in the MAKO allows for a bigger sweet spot, with a balanced feel.
Kara
I see this bat is not eligible for Babe Ruth. However is it eligible for Little Leagues Senior Division? Scott
The 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League is not legal for Babe Ruth or Little League Senior Division. Both of those leagues require all composite barrel bats to be BBCOR certified.
Kara
Is this bat legal for Pony League (Mustang and Bronco)? G
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League is legal for play in the Pony League. It meets the maximum barrel requirement of 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Tessa L.
Would this bat reconsidered an end loaded bat or a balanced bat? chuck
Even though the 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League has an extended barrel length and -9 length to weight ratio, the TCT composite material it is made from gives it a very balanced swing weight. It is the most balanced bat in the 2014 Easton product line.
Mac
What size should a 10 year old swing? He is 100 lbs and about 5' tall. Jim
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League.
Jason
My son currently uses a 27" 17 oz. -10 Easton Rival. We are trying to decide between the S1 or MAKO as well as the length. One coach says 28 but another coach says 29. My son is 4'6" and weighs about 70 lbs. What length and what are your opinions on the bats? Baseballfambam
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 29" bat. The Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight. The MAKO has Easton's new TCT Thermo Composite for a massive sweet spot and faster swing speeds. The 2014 Easton S1 (SL14S110) Senior League is a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight. It has an IMX composite barrel and a SIC black carbon composite handle.
Jason
I am assuming that there will be a break-in period since it is a composite bat. If so, what is the recommended swings/hits? chuck
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League does require a break-in period. The suggested break-in period is 150-200 swings off a tee while rotating the barrel. For more information on break-in check out http://www.justbats.com/blog/index.php/3789/breaking-in-your-composite-baseball-bat/
Jason
Is the Mako approved for the intermediate/junior division of Little League? (I see the bpf silk screen, but nothing re bbcor) JT
For the Intermediate and Junior levels of Little League, composite bats must be BBCOR certified. The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) is not BBCOR certified is and would not be approved for these divisions. All BBCOR certified bats are a -3.
Tori
My son is 12, 5'3, and weighs 120 lbs. What size bat should I be looking at for him? angie
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 31" 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9).
Tessa L.
Do you currently have the SL14MK9, 31" 22 oz. currently in stock? Paul
We have the 31" 22 oz. 2014 Easton MAKO(SL14MK9) in stock.
Kara
My son is going to be a U13 player. He loves his Easton S2. He is 5' 8" and 131 pounds. What length should I get him? Also, will he do well with this as he is both a contact and power hitter? kel
For a player his size, we recommend the 32" model of the 2014 Easton MAKO: (SL14MK9) Senior League. The MAKO is the most balanced bat in the Easton product line and will help him achieve higher swing speeds. This design is a great option for a contact hitter who can occasionally hit for power. If he liked the S2, the MAKO should be a solid choice that offers a lighter swing weight and larger sweet spot.
Mac
According to Babe Ruth rules it looks like composite barrel bats must have the bbcor .50 stamp on it. Does the USSSA 1.15 stamp BPF make it legal? Mike
The 2014 Easton Mako would be not be legal in Babe Ruth leagues since it does not have the BBCOR .50 BPF stamp. Here are the requirements a composite bat would need to meet in order to be legal for Babe Ruth play. http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/frequently-asked-questions/adult/
Kelby
My son is 13, 5'6" and 110 lbs. What size and weight should he get? He is also more of a contact hitter rather that a power hitter. Andrew
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 31" 22 ozmodel in the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League.
Jason
My son is 5'0 and 88 lbs. What size bat should he using? Andy
He should be swinging a 30" 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League bat. If the 30" 21 oz. is too heavy try a 30" 20 oz. -10.
Brandon
Is the barrel of the -9 MAKO longer than the -10 MAKO? Coach Zack
Yes. In a side-by-side comparison between the 2014 Easton MAKO: (SL14MK9) Senior League and (SL14MKB) in the same length, the (SL14MK9) has a slightly longer barrel. The difference is approximately 1/4", and I wouldn't consider that a major difference in the sweet spot sizes they offer.
Mac
my daughtet is 9 years old she is 4 11 and 80 lbs what size bat would be the best for her. softball bat
Given your daughters height and weight, I would suggest a 31" softball bat. The weight you should use is based off personal preference but a -10 or -12 would be common options for that size.
Patrick
Is the MAKO SL14MK9 USSSA approved? My son is 10U weighs 105 lbs. 4'8" and #3 hitter. What size would you recommend? -9 or -10? 30" or 31". He is currently swinging a CF5 -10 30" 20 oz. Hype Baseball
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) is USSSA approved. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" bat. If he has quick bat speed, the -9 would be a great option.
Kara
My son is using a 29" 19 oz Easton S3. We are looking at the MAKO -9. What would you recommend? He is 5' 80 lbs and is the lead off hitter. Chuck
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 30" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League.
Jason
I am 12 years old, and I am in a PONY baseball league. I am wondering if this bat would work for me. ryandodgers22
The 2014 Easton MAKO: (SL14MK9) Senior League bat is approved for play in PONY baseball with the 2 5/8" barrel diameter. If you like a very balanced two-piece bat, it's tough to find a better bat than the MAKO.
Mac
Is this bat eligible for Little League Junior's Division for 13-14 year olds? meganbuzbee
The 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 Senior League would not be legal for the Junior Division of Little League. This division requires all composite barreled bats to be certified for BBCOR.
Justin R.
What leagues are this bat legal for? Please list them. k
The 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MK9 is legal in USSSA 14U, Pony League and travel leagues. There are some local leagues that allow 2 5/8" composite barrels as well. We always recommend checking with your local league official for exact rules in your league.
Kara
My son, who is 5ft tall and weighs 90 lbs, is moving up to Bronco this Spring. I recently purchased a 2014 Easton MAKO: YB14MK Youth 31" 20oz for him. He's been practicing with it and loves it. Would like to get him a wide barrel, 2 5/8" diameter. What model do you recommend for this switch? Should we go with the shorter but heavier 30" 21oz model? baseballmom88
We would actually recommend using the 30" in the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League. However, if he is comfortable with a 31" then you can certainly stick with that.
Aaron
When do you think you will have the 31" model back in stock? G
We do not have an exact arrival date for the 31" model 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League. Typically, out of stock items take 2-4 weeks to be back in stock.
Jason
My 12 year old son is 5 foot 8 and 160 pounds. He is more of a power hitter. I don't want to go too end loaded and lose too much swing speed. I am seeing all the hype on the Easton MAKO and the DeMarini CF6. Is either of these a good choice for him? Would there be a better option since these two are pretty balanced? Does either deliver enough mass for the power hitter? Nichojr
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) and the 2014 DeMarini CF6 (DXCFR) are both quality, two piece composite bats. These bats would be capable of batted ball speeds that would benefit a power hitter. In general, power hitters tend to prefer a stiffer flex that a one piece design would provide. Two piece designs offer more flex that can create control problems for players who generate higher bat head speeds.
Patrick
I'm 5'6" and weigh 115 lbs. What size bat should I get? Matty
Based on your height and weight we recommend a 31" 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9).
Kara
What size is legal for travel ball? Not sure if it changed. V
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) is approved for play in USSSA. USSSA allows the 2 5/8" and 2 3/4" barrel as long as the bat is stamped on the taper with the "USSSA BPF 1.15."
John
Is this bat legal for Dixie Youth Ranger division? D
This 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League bat is not approved for Dixie Baseball. Any bat that has a 2 5/8" composite barrel must be a BBCOR certified model with a -3 length to weight ratio.
Mac
Is this bat legal for Dixie Ozone Division 11-12 year olds? buck
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League meets all the requirements for Dixie 'O' Zone Division and is legal for play. It features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp and has a 2 5/8" barrel.
Jason
What is the difference between the MAKO that is a 2 3/4" Senior League bat and the 2 5/8" barrel bat? mike
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) and the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MKB) both use the same composite materials. The barrel size and the drop are the only differences between the two bats.
Kara
I'm looking for a bat for my son. He plays in a Georgia Dizzy Dean lean. All 1.15 bats are legal at his level and all barrel sizes are legal. He is 4.2 82lbs. He hits for power in our minor league field. Is this Mako the one I should be looking for or the junior version? Thomas (Dizzy Dean)
The Jr Big Barrell is for tee ball and coach pitch. I would recommend the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) for your situation.

I am confused on why this bat isn't okay for Juniors Little League and why it would require a BBCOR rating? Isn't BBCOR for high school and college and the bats have a -3 weight ratio? Kids in this league are 13-14 and they aren't using that size yet. My son needs a 31" with a 2 5/8" barrel with a -9 ratio. What bat do you suggest? ORea
Composite barrel bats have to be BBCOR certified according to Little League Rules. They do not have to use a BBCOR bat if it has an alloy barrel. Little League does not have a limit on the drop. Players can use any drop as long as it has an alloy barrel. However, if you are searching for a -9 bat, the 2014 Easton XL3 (SL14X39) is a great option.
Kara
Is the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9 Senior League) bat all composite? Or is just the handle composite? CANO22
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9 Senior League) has a composite handle and a composite barrel. It will also be very balanced in swing weight.
Brandon
Should I get the Easton MAKO or XL1? I am 5 foot 5 and weigh 115 pounds, what size of each? gm3hta
Both the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) and the 2014 Easton XL1 (SL14X18) would be nice options. Both are great two-piece composite designs with extended barrel sizes that maximize sweet spot. The major difference would be the weighting. The MAKO is balanced and the XL1 is end-loaded. The preference between the two would be based on which style you prefer.
Patrick
My son is 5'7" and 135 lbs - and growing fast. His coach recommended a 32" 2 5/8" drop 5 big barrel. I don't see any drop 5 bats and I think it may be too heavy? How does the MAKO SL14MKB compare to the SL14MK9? Do yo think he would be better with 32" or 31"? mumma
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) and the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MKB) use the same composite materials. The SL14MK9 is a 2 5/8" barrel and is a - 9. The SL14MKB is a 2 3/4" and a -10. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 32" 27 oz. bat. Here is a link to all of the -5 bats in a 32": http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth%20big%20barrel/length%20to%20weight%20ratio~-%205/length~32%20inch/barrel%20diameter~2%205-8/

Brandon
Is the MAKO SL14MK9 model an acceptable bat for Babe Ruth baseball league Junior Division? Lincoln
No the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League model will not be approved Babe Ruth Junior Division. To use a composite barrel bat it must be BBCOR approved.
John
My son plays 11U travel baseball. He is about 130 pounds and about 5 feet tall. What length of bat should he use? Bill
We would recommend a 30" bat for someone of roughly his height and weight, although you can go up or down 1" from the recommended length based on personal preference and things such as how far he stands off the plate, if he chokes up on the bat, how strong he is, etc.
Kyle J.
Does it have the USSSA stamp? brett
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) has the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp.
John H
I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 105 pounds. Should I go with a 31 inch 22 ounce or a 31 inch 21 ounce for the MAKO? Is the big barrel better than the small barrel? Matt44323
Whether you should go with the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) or the bigger barrel MAKO (SL14MKB) would be determined by what your league allows for. Many leagues will not allow for the bigger barrel.
Patrick
I have 11 year old triplet boys that are around 5 foot 2 and between 110 and 102 pounds. What size Mako would you suggest? Tigers
Based on their height and weight, we would suggest the 31 inch size of the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) for your players.
Patrick
Is this bat as hot as the 2014 Easton XL1 -5? Gtfddhj
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League is just as hot as the Easton XL1. The MAKO uses Easton's newest TCT Thermo composite for an increased sweet spot an bat speed. The Easton MAKO has an extremely balanced swing weight and is great for contact hitters. The Easton XL1 has an end loaded swing weight and is typically better for power hitters.
Jason
Can you use this bat in 13-15 Babe Ruth? Raul
The 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League is not legal for play in 13-15 Babe Ruth. All composite barrel bats are required to have the BBCOR certification stamp in 13-15 Babe Ruth.
Jason
Do you have to do anything special for break-in or is it ready to go when shipped? Seebs
With the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9 Senior League) you will need to break-in the bat. We recommend about 150-200 swings on a tee. Start your swing at about 40% and work your way up from there. Also, be sure to rotate the bat about a quarter of an inch after each hit to be sure you break-in all sides of the bat.
Cooper
What is the difference between the -9 and -10 MAKO? tanner
The only difference between the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League and the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MKB) Senior League besides the weight, is the barrel diameter. The -9 MAKO has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter and the -10 MAKO has a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Jason
I am 12 yrs old, 5'4" and 155 lbs. What bat size for the MAKO should I get? I am a power hitter. Stan Stanmonson
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 32" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MK9) Senior League.
Jason
Why does this bat not have the "Approved for Pony" stamp as required by the pony league? Joe
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) will have the USSSA certified stamp. It will say Approved for Pony in sentence form towards the end of the barrel.
Brandon
My son is 11 yrs old, 4'10" and 85 lbs. What size MAKO would you suggest? He has been using a S2 30" 17 oz for the last 2 years. Matt B
Based on the player's approximate height and weight, I would probably suggest a 31" in the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14MK9).
Merritt
Which bat will be more balanced? The S2 or the MAKO? Jerry
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is going to be slightly more balanced than the 2014 Easton S2. The MAKO will also have a slightly larger sweet sport compared to the S2.
Cooper
My son is 11, 5'2", and 145 lbs. He has been using a 32/22 for about a year and a half. He plays USSSA travel ball. Would this bat be legal? Also, what size do you recommend? B-ball mom
Based on the player's approximate height and weight, I would recommend 31". The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14MK9) will be approved for play in USSSA and incorporates the 1.15 BPF stamp on the barrel. Therefore, it should be certified for play in your division.
Merritt
Can I clean the barrel with soap? Or would that damage the paint on the bat? Chris
It is best to clean composite barrel bats like the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) with a mild dish soap and water.
Patrick
I am 5'4" and weigh 120 pounds. I used the Combat Wanted last year and hit 8 homeruns. Does this bat compare to that in how the weight is distributed? What size should I get? kebosabi302
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 31" 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL14MK9. Both the MAKO and the Wanted feature a balanced swing weight, which is great to work on bat speed and bat control as well.
Tessa
Does the MAKO compare to the Combat Wanted big barrel? kebosabi302
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) and the COMBAT Wanted are very similar to each other. They both feature balanced swing weights, which is generally preferred by contact hitters. They also feature the same two-piece fully composite design, so they will require a break in time before seeing their best performances. The main difference between the two is that the MAKO features an extended barrel design, which is normally only seen in end loaded bats.
Tessa
What is the difference in MOI between the Easton SL14X18 and Easton SL14MK9? Steve
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) will provide a lower MOI and faster swing speeds when compared with the Easton SL14X18. The MAKO is balanced, while the XL1 will feel end loaded.
Brandon
Trying to compare this model vs. the XL1. What are your thoughts on the differences between and sizing? I need a Little League bat (no big barrel). Son is 9, 4'7" and weighs 70 lbs. Used a 28" 18 oz. big barrel Omaha last year, but need a Little League bat this year. Martin
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) and the Easton XL1 are similar in a sense that they both feature a two-piece fully composite design and extended barrel. The main difference between the two is that the MAKO features a balanced swing weight, which is the same as the Omaha your son used previously, and the XL1 is end loaded. An end loaded swing weight is generally preferred by power hitters. Depending on your son's hitting style, the MAKO or the XL1 would be great choices to go with. Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 29" Youth bat.
Tessa
I am 13, 5'2", and weigh 100 pounds. I am a power hitter and play 13u travel baseball. What is the best bat for me? Buck
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is a great option to check out since it is the best of both worlds for contact and power hitting. It does feature a balanced swing weight, which is generally preferred by contact hitters, however it also features an extended barrel design, which is normally only seen in end loaded bats. If you are looking for a great end loaded option, the XL1 is another high performance model from Easton to look at.
Tessa
Which bat has a larger sweet spot? This model, or the COMBAT Wanted (-8)? jake
Both models are going to have very solid sweet spots. However, the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14MK9) will incorporate a slightly larger sweet spot on the barrel. The sweet spot, as well as the balanced weight distribution, is what the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: (SL14MK9) is primarily known for. Therefore, this model would be an exceptional option to take a closer look at.
Merritt
Please compare the 2014 model to the new 2015 model that will come out in September. Tony
Aside from the color scheme, Easton hasn't indicated they'll change anything to the design of the 2015 (SL15MK9) from the 2014 (SL14MK9). They will however offer the MAKO TORQ for 2015 which will feature the new 360 Degree Rotating Handle Technology.
Mac
My son is about 4'6", around 50-55 lbs. What length would you recommend? Bert
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 29" 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9). For more information on sizing, check out our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tessa
Is it a 2 5/8" barrel? logan
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) features a 2 5/8" barrel.
Tessa
Is this legal in Babe Ruth? max
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) should be legal for Babe Ruth. I would still check with your coach or league official just to make sure though.
Brandon
I am 5' tall and 80 lbs. What size should I pick? Tpsquared
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9).
Jason
I am 5'1" and weigh 105 lbs. What length should I get? conner leifeste
Using our Bat Coach, I would recommend using the 31 inch length model in the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9).
Tom
My son is 5'2.5" and weighs about 95 lbs. This Fall and coming Spring, he will be playing 11U AAA. Should I get the 31" bat or the 30" bat? rsv
Based on your son's height and weight, we recommend the 31" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9).
Chinyere
looking to purchase -3 bat for my nephew. What size is that if he requested 33" and -3? Thanks. jen
The drop weight (-3) will be the difference between the overall length of the bat (33") and the overall weight of the bat (30 ounces). For a 33" drop 3 or -3, it would be a 30 ounce bat.
Joe
What is the big difference between a 2 3/4" barrel and a 2 5/8" barrel? My son is 10 years old, is 5'2", and weighs 95 pounds. What would you recommend? He uses the S series now, 2 5/8" barrel -10. Jeff
Some leagues' rules and regulations require a 2 5/8" barrel diameter and will not allow a 2 3/4" barrel diameter. As far as performance goes, they will both perform about the same with the 2 3/4" barrel being slightly larger.
Tom
Why is the Mako SL14MKB so much more expensive than the Mako that is in the bat packaged with the Louisville Slugger TPX Warrior Senior League Baseball Bat: SL12W? Mike
The 2014 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) in 31" or 32" by itself cost the same as the bat pack with the Mako and TPX. The bat pack essentially gives you the Louisville Slugger TPX for free if you were going to buy the 31" or 32" at the $299.99 price tag.
Jake
What is the difference between the MAKO SL14MK9 and the MAKO SL14MKB? Chris
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is a two-piece full composite bat featuring a 2 5/8" barrel diameter as well as a drop 9 length to weight ratio. The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MKB) is a two-piece full composite bat featuring a 2 3/4" barrel diameter as well as a drop 10 length to weight ratio. Both bats will feature identical materials, however the graphics will be slightly different as well.
Joe
My son is 10 and is 4'11", 120 lbs. What size MAKO -9 should he get? Big Daddy
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9).
Jason
My son is 12 years old and has a Easton S2 29" 19 oz. model. How does this compare to the MAKO? What size will he need? Gonzo
For a player of his age, our bat recommends the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) in a 30" 21 oz. model. The MAKO will be a two-piece full composite bat featuring a balanced swing weight. Additionally, the MAKO does offer a longer barrel and sharper taper which allows for a larger sweet spot.
Joe
Does this bat have a bigger sweet spot than the 2014 Easton S3? Russ
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) combines the light balanced swing weight of the S series while providing the extended barrel and sweet spot of the XL series. The Mako will have a larger sweet spot.
Jake
Is this bigger barrel MAKO designed the same way as the smaller barrel MAKO? There have been issues with the end caps coming off easily with the smaller barrel MAKO and I am just wondering if the bigger barrel has the same problem? bb dad
Unfortunately, there is no way to accurately estimate the useful life of the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9). All bats have a chance of breaking, so manufacturers typically sell them with warranties. Check out our Bat Care tips to get the most use out of your bat: http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/bat-care/
Liz
My son who is 11 and is 4'8" and weighs 93 lbs. What size bat and length would you recommend? russ
Based on his height and weight we suggest a 30" 21 oz model. However, a 31" 22 oz model in the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) would work if you are comfortable with his current swing speed.
Jason
I am in high school and swing a 33" 30 oz. Easton MAKO. I am looking for a drop five for travel ball. Would the XL1 or the MAKO be better for me? Korey Baseball
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is not available in a drop 5. If you have been experiencing success with the MAKO, we would obviously not recommend moving away from it. However, in that 33" model you were looking for in the drop 5, you would have to look at either the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVX5) or the 2015 DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT Senior League Baseball Bat (DXVD5).
Joe
What are the biggest differences in the SL15MK9 and the SL15MK10? My son swings a 29" 19 oz. S1 now. Jeff
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) will feature a two-piece composite design similar to the Easton S1. However, the MAKO does have a larger sweet spot and feels more end-loaded than the S1. In terms of performance, I would give the MAKO the edge. The SL15MK9 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter as well as the drop 9 length to weight ratio. The SL15MK10B features a 2 3/4" barrel diameter as well as the drop 10 length to weight ratio. Easton does tend to change the sizes, diameters and drop weights offered each year based off of what has been successful in past years, as well as what they think will be successful in the future.
Joe
My son is 11 and is 5'1" and 110 lbs. He played with the 2 1/4" Mako 31" 21 oz. bat last year and had very good swing speed and power. This year he can now use a 2 5/8" bat. I am looking at the Easton XL1 (31/26 or 30/25), Mako 31/22 and the Louisville Prime 915 (31/26 or 30/25). Which one do you recommend? Jake
All of these bats would be good options. The XL1 is going to have a more end-loaded feel compared to the other two so if you are looking to add a little more power to his swing that may be a good option. The Prime 915 isn't going to have the extended barrel of the XL1 but will swing much more balanced. Ultimately I would go for the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) due to the fact that he's been using one and doing well with it. Also it features the extended barrel of the XL1 while maintaining a more balanced swing weight.
Jake
I play high school ball and I am 5 ft 6 inch 140 pounds. Which bat would be best for me? I need a drop 3 but they throw 90 mph and I am just behind the ball. jj
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is not BBCOR approved. For your height and weight our charts are recommending a 32". I would recommend finding a very balanced design to help increase bat speed. A couple of balanced models that I would recommend is the 2015 Easton MAKO BBCOR (BB15MK), 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBRVB), and the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR (MCBC614).
John

Is this bat legal for middle school baseball or Babe Ruth 13-15? djdjjfjfjf
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) will not be approved for play in Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth does not allow composite barrel bats unless they are BBCOR certified. Middle School rules vary across the nation. I would recommend contacting a coach or a league official regarding your Middle School rules.
John
What leagues is this bat allowed in? hhhhh
We do not have a specific universal list of the leagues that the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) would be allowed in. You would want to check with your league to see if they have any barrel diameter or barrel material restrictions. The Mako (SL14MK9) would be a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter and would be composite material.
Patrick
What will happen if I use this in Babe Ruth, 13-15? dnrmrmt
All composite barrel bats like the Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) need to be BBCOR certified if they would be allowed in that division of play. Since it is not a BBCOR bat, it is illegal and would not be allowed for use in a game. We have many great options in the big barrel or "senior league" category. The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is a great option and one of our most popular sellers and best reviewed.
Patrick
I just bought a mako. How many times do you think I have to hit it before it breaks in and when I break it in should I use it a lot or only use it in game? Steven Obrien
The Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14MK9) is a two-piece composite bat that will need about 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss, turning barrel a 1/4" every swing, to help break bat in. Once you have bat broken in I would suggest using it only in games if possible. If you need to use it in practice it won't diminish the life of the bat too drastically.
