Description

Introducing the classiest bat to ever hit the field, the Marucci Black. Combining a longer barrel with big league balance and a sleek design, the Black offers everything players could want in a top of the line bat. Constructed using Marucci's patented new two-piece design, the Black fuses an AZ3000 Alloy barrel with a composite handle. The composite handle on the Black is made extra stiff so that players can hit for maximum power, while Marucci's AZ3000 Alloy is ultra-responsive and provides the industry's best combination of performance and durability. The barrel on the black is made extra-long which results in a larger sweet spot and increased trampoline effect. The Black also features unprecedented big league balance, which means that players don't have to sacrifice swing speed for a bigger barrel. A reduced M.O.I. gives the bat a lighter swing weight for increased swing velocity, and ultimately more power. Marucci also brings their popular anti-vibration knob to the Black which, combined with the bat's two-piece construction, effectively eliminates negative vibration to give players maximum confidence and comfort at the plate. Marucci: Taking Baseball By Storm! The Black features the USSSA 1.15 BPF. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Beauty and brawn Elite player's dad parent

Pros: The bat is a -8 compared to the other Marucci bat (-10) that my son used. This bat feels just as light and my son seems to have a faster swing with this bat. Have used it in practice only but getting some awesome hits. The looks of the bat are indeed classic. Makes you want to have it on display only.

Cons: Non so far. Still have not used it in a real game but lots of BP.

Great balance, good pop and feel Dad/Coach coach

Pros: Just fantastic to swing. First on field bp pitch thrown was hit over the fence. First in game game at bat, 9 yr old son hit the scoreboard in left center. Lots of line drives, a well balanced bat that also has plenty of pop for a power hitter. A best of both worlds scenerio.

Cons: Scratches very easily. Had it two weeks, looks like he's been playing with it all season.

Serious bat for power hitters Scott D coach

Pros: My son who's an average sized 10yr old has been using it for 2 seasons and I'm very happy with its performance. I'd recommend it for better players who know how to swing because of the weight and end-load. This bat is all business and works well for players who have learned to swing.

Cons: Scratches easily but they all do.

Hot outta the box!!!! JP4burner parent

Pros: The ball just flies off of this bat faster than any other bat in the dugout ( CF6, S1, Mako, Both Hex's, Cat 6). My 9u travel ball player has been hitting balls to the fence with this thing all season long. Very light/balanced swing wieght. If your kid is a power hitter then BUY THIS BAT!!!!

Cons: Had to replace the grip after 4 months of being used at tournaments every weekend and 2-3 practices a week. Just routine maintainence.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBB148? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does this bat compare to last year's Black 2 or the original Black from a balance stand point? I know the Black 2 was stated as not as balanced as the original Black. TG
The 2014 Marucci Black: MSBB148 Senior League will be similar in balance to the Marucci Black 2.
Kara
How does this bat compare with the CF6? Is the MOI about the same? Does the Marucci have a longer barrel? Ken
The DeMarini CF6 is going to be lighter weight. The 2014 Marucci Black: MSBB148 Senior League is going to feel more endloaded because of the extended barrel.
Tori
Is this bat good for cold weather? Popo
We do not recommend using any non-wood bat, including the 2014 Marucci Black: MSBB148 Senior League, in temperatures below 60°F (16°C). In those temperatures, the ball becomes much more dense and could damage or shorten the useful life of your bat. Composite can crack, and alloy can dent, so neither material is proven to be better in cold weather, unfortunately.
Mac
What differences are there between this and the Black 2? Coach Zack
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) and the Black 2 will be extremely similar. The only real difference is that the Black has a player preferred handle.
Tori
Trying to decide between Marucci Black vs. Easton Mako vs. Demarini CF6. Will any swing heavier or lighter than the other? And difference in barrel length? Baseball observer
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) will feel heavier than the Easton MAKO or the DeMarini CF6. The Marucci Black and the Easton MAKO will have similar barrel length to each other.
Kara
My son is 12, 98lbs, 4'10". What size do you suggest? Should the end load be of concern for his size? AR Travel Dad
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148). The Marucci Black also features a balanced swing weight, typically preferred by contact hitters. End loaded bats are typically preferred by power hitters, who are stronger and can handle the extra weight in the barrel.
Tessa L.
What is the difference with this bat and the 2014 Demarini Voodoo? double b
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) and the 2014 (DeMarini Voodoo (DXVDR) are both two-piece bats with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Voodoo is more end loaded than the Marucci Black and is designed for a power hitter.
Kara
How does the 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) Senior League compare to the 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL108) Senior League? Do they have similar pop? Frnvp
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) Senior League is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel, the 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL108) Senior League is a one-piece composite bat. Composite barrels after broken in will typically have more of a trampoline effect than alloy barrels.

Kara

Is this bat legal for my 12 yr. old to use in the 50/70 intermediate league? Crazymomof4
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) would be legal for your child to use in 50/70 league.
Zach
My son is 11, 135lbs, 5'4" and playing majors in little league. Is this bat legal for him to use and what size do you recommend? Nicole
Due to its 2 5/8" barrel the 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) is illegal for the Major Division of Little League. I would recommend the Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) in a 31" 20 oz size, which will be legal for Little League.
Bobby
I'm 5'6", 145 pounds. What size do you recommend? I currently use the -9 Voodoo. Does this bat have a bigger sweet spot? Alex
For a player that size we typically suggest a 32" bat. The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) will have a similarly sized sweet spot.
Gary T.
Does this bat require a "break in" period? If so what is the best way to do this? buckeyejerm
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) has an alloy barrel and will not require a break-in period.

John
I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs. Would the 32/24 be a good size? Jester
Based on your approximate height and I would suggest a 31". However, a 32" would also work well for the 2014 Marucci Black: (MSBB148) based on your size.
Merritt

Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth for 14 year olds? Al
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) Senior League bat is approved for play in the 13-15 year-old division. It has a 2 5/8" barrel that is made of alloy and features the BPF 1.15 performance stamp.
Mac
is this bat approved for little league, 50-70 play? howard
The 2014 Marucci Black (MSBB148) is approved for play in the 50-70 division of Little League.
Bobby
I want a bat with really good pop. What bat would you recommend ? Me, myself, and i
"Pop" is more of a term that would describe the player's hitting ability rather than a quantifiable feature of the bat. Bats like the 2014 Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) will be rated with a performance limit of 1.15 BPF which means that they will all have the same maximum allowable batted ball speed. What you see and end up paying for is that some bats will last a bit longer in the peak performance level than others. Another aspect that is important in selecting the bat is whether the design of the bat is beneficial for your style of play.
Patrick
My son is 11 years old and is 5 foot 4 and 130 pounds. He currently swings a MAKO 31 inch 22 ounce bat very well and hits with power to all fields. Could he move up to the 32 inch 24 ounce Marucci Black model? What age would I start moving him into -5 bats? Donnie
Based on his height and weight, your son could probably adjust to moving up to that 32 inch size of the 2014 Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) and see success with it. The time you would switch to a -5 would be based less on age and more on the player's strength and development. It is the next closest step to a BBCOR bat from a -8 like this model of the Marucci Black is so he could transition sometime between when he gets this and when he moves to a BBCOR bat for high school.

does this bat sting? or is it like the marucci elite luke
The 2014 Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) will differ from the 2014 Marucci Elite Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBE14) in the fact that it does include an anti-vibration knob, which will cut down the vibration that a player feels when they do not square up the ball on the barrel.
Ben
Would this bat be good for a 7 year old that is about to play Pony League Pinto division? If I checked correctly, he will need the 29 inch 21 ounce. turtle
The length the player would need would be based on their height and weight. The 2014 Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) features a -8 length to weight ratio which may be a bit heavy for a player of that age. You would perhaps be better to off to start them with a lighter -10 length to weight ratio bat.
Patrick
I am 4'10", I weigh 80 lbs, and I'm 11. What size would you recommend for me? that cardinal fan
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148).
Jason
Does this bat have more pop than the Marucci ONE? That Cardinal fan
The Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) has an end loaded swing weight and is typically a better option for a power hitter. If you can swing the Black with the same bat speed as the ONE, you could possibly see a little more distance. However, the pop on the two bats is similar it just depends on what type of hitter you are to determine which is best for you.
Jason

My son turns 9 next month. He is 4'7" and 75 lbs. He is currently using a Easton S3 Senior League 28" 18 oz. We are looking to start swinging something a with a little more weight. Would this be a good option? He's wanting something with a little more pop than the S3. Kevin
The Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) is going feel similar to the Easton S3 but have a slightly more end loaded feel, however, they are going to have the same peak performance since they are both made of alloy material.
Allison
I am getting a new bat. I am a power hitter with good bat speed. Should I get the Marucci Black or the Marucci CAT 6? ben teakell
The Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) has a little heavier feel and is a better option for a power hitter. The CAT 6 is an extremely balanced bat and is usually better for contact hitters.
Jason
I am 5'1" and 103 lbs. I am also a contact hitter. What bat and size should I use? I play 12 and under league. I'm looking to keep my contact up. Jayson Baseball
For your size we would recommend a 31" in the Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148). The Marucci Black is a very balanced bat that will give you a quick swing speed and keep your contact up.
Allison
I am 11 years old and about 5 feet tall and 82 pounds. Would this bat be better than the 2015 Easton MAKO? Also, what size would I need? CG3
The Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) or the 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK9) are both nice options. I would not say that one would necessarily be better than the other, they are just different by design. Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a inch 30 size.
Patrick

The Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBB148) is approved for Pony Baseball, Bronco Division.
