Description

New! The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Bat! Rawlings is out to prove that they truly are on the cutting edge of BBCOR design technology. The original 5150 Alloy BBCOR was one of the first BBCOR bats to hit the market, yet it achieved uncommon staying power and popularity for years after its release. That's because players barely noticed a difference in performance, swing weight, and durability from their BESR bat. Now that Rawlings has had a chance to perfect the design even further, this year's 5150 Alloy BBCOR is sure to be even more popular! The unique feel offered by Rawlings' BBCOR bats is made possible through Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp) Barrel Technology that isolates extra weight to a smaller region of the bat, translating into extra swing speed. Made from the ultra-responsive 5150 Alloy, this one-piece design features an extra-long barrel design and a balanced swing weight that is over 200 M.O.I. better than any other competitor. The end of the barrel features Rawlings' proprietary Bi/fusion process that joins the Comp-Lite end cap to the 5150 Alloy frame to give it more durability and more pop in one single, solitary unit. With a 7/8 Inch tapered handle and premium synthetic grip, the BB513 will feel incredible in your hands. Rawlings: The New Standard of Speed! The BB513 is BBCOR Certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

2014 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Bat *AWESOME* Sam player

Pros: For the past few years, I have been what they call hopping. I have swung Demarini, Easton, Louisville, you name it. They have all fallen to pieces. Then my friend told me about the 5150. He said it has even around for years and is used by some of the best collegiate teams, including N.C. State, Virginia, and South Carolina. I was hesitant at first, but now that I have had it for 4 months, I'm never turning back. Rawlings really nailed it. Awesome bat.

Cons: Make sure you hit the ball square an the sweet spot or else it'll sting a bit. Just buy batting gloves.

What is a better for power hitters: the Rawlings 5150 or Voodoo OVERLORD? baseball
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR (BB513) has stiff one-piece design with a balanced swing weight and is great bat for any type of hitter. The Voodoo OVELORD has an end loaded swing weight and is a more ideal bat for a power hitter.

I'm working on balance and contact. Is this a good bat to help me work on that? jdub
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: (BB513) will have a very even weight distribution making it fairly easy to generate a fast bat speed. The one-piece alloy design will also make the bat feel a little bit stiffer. Generally, power hitters tend to prefer this type of feel, however, it will ultimately come down to the players preference. If you are looking to improve your contact, a two-piece construction will help provide you with a little bit more flex. In terms of balance though, the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: (BB513) will have an evenly dispersed weight distribution making it easy to swing smoother.
Merritt

Which is better for a power hitter? The 5150 or EXOGRID 3? I am 6' 4" and 210 lbs. Should I get a 34 inch? Power Hitter
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend a 34" BBCOR bat. But unfortunately, I wouldn't say one of these bats is absolutely better for a power hitter than the other. Both the EXOGRID 3 and 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR (BB513) offer balanced swing weights and stiff flexes (which power hitters generally use best).
Mac

The biggest difference between the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: (BB513) and the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: (BBCA2) will primarily be the design, and appearance. I'm 5'7 or 5'8 and weigh 136 lbs. I am a single double guy but have some good power. I am constantly hitting the warning track with no homers. What kind or type of bat specifically fits my style of hitting and size? Any bat recommendations? ryno
Based on your description, it sounds like you are a little bit of both--a contact and power hitter. A great option for you would be the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513). This bat features a balanced swing weight, which will be great for a contact hitter to work on bat speed as well as bat control. This bat is also a one-piece design, which is normally preferred by power hitters. Power hitters tend to have great bat speed so it is to their advantage to use a stiffer one-piece bat, like the 5150. Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 31" bat.
Tessa
I am 6 feet tall and weigh 155 pounds. What size should I get? BenJammin31
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 33 inch size of the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513).
Patrick
I'm around 5'7", 160 pounds and I'm in between a power and contact hitter. I was wondering what size i should use? Also, what model, the 2013 or 2014? hjkampf
Based on your approximate height and weight, I would suggest 32". As for the model, both of these will incorporate the same one-piece, 5150 Alloy design. Therefore, it will ultimately come down to your personal preference. The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat: (BB513) has been extremely popular and has a lot of great reviews.
Merritt
I need help, is there much of a difference between this and the 2013 model? Also is the Velo more balanced? tan
There is not going to be much of a difference between the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the 2013 Rawlings 5150 Alloy other than a change in the graphics. The 5150 will be just as balanced as the Rawlings Velo.

I am 5'7" and weigh 115 lbs. I am a contact hitter. Should I get the 2014 RIP-IT Air or the 2014 Rawlings 5150? sgrav
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) would be a very high performing alloy bat as would the RIP-IT Air. The RIP-IT Air will feel more light weight and balanced. That is the only difference really. Both would be really quality bats!
Brandon
Would this be good for a smaller kid going into high school ball who wants to swing a light bat? Ak8
Definitely. The extremely balanced swing weight of the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) would make a great choice for a player's first BBCOR bat or for a smaller player who is looking for the most bat speed and control during the swing possible.
Mac

With its alloy barrel, the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) is hot right out of the wrapper and does not require a break-in period.

The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) will have a slightly larger than normal barrel length. The barrel diameter will be 2 5/8". The 2013 and 2014 models will be made from the same 5150 alloy material. The swing weight will also feel very much the same. Both will have 12 month warranties from Rawlings.

John H
What's the difference between the 2014 5150 and the 2015 model? nick
The 2015 Rawlings 5150 will feature an comp-lite end cap that will make the bat more balanced. Based on your size, I would suggest a 32" bat, but if you have tried swinging that size and are uncomfortable, the 31" would probably be the best choice.
Kelby
What Easton bat would this bat be comparable to? Kevin
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR (BB513) would be the most similar to the S3 out of the Easton line.
John
Is the 5150 called that because it's made of Tin(50) and Antimony(51)? They are the atomic numbers in the periodic table. Baseball
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) is named for its alloy material. We are unsure as to where the name originated. Rawlings number is 1-800-729-5464 if you would like to ask them.
Brandon
What's the difference between the BBCA2 and the BB513? Looking at getting the bat pack. mike
Both the 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the BBCA2 are both in the Rawlings 5150 series. They are different years. The BBCA2 is the 2013 model.
Frankie
which bat is better the Rawlings 5150 or the Easton S2 zach_p_5
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) is a one-piece alloy bat made of the Rawlings top-grade 5150 alloy. It is very well-balanced. The 2014 Easton S2 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S2) is a two-piece hybrid featuring a SIC Carbon composite handle and a Scandium alloy barrel. It will also be very well-balanced, however it has a much lower M.O.I for faster swing speeds and added power.
Joe
How does this bat compare to the Marucci Black? Jerry
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the 2014 Marucci Black BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBB14) are both nice options. The major difference would be that the Black is a hybrid design that has a composite handle with an alloy barrel and composite handle so it will flex more than the one-piece 5150 which can provide more bat speed but sacrifices control. Performance on the two should be similar given the BBCOR restrictions.
Patrick

Ben
What are the differences between the 2014 VELO, the 2015 5150, and 2014 5150? Which one would be better for a hitter with quick hands? toast
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the 2015 Rawlings 5150 Baseball Bat BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB5150) will be very similar. The differences between the two will be largely cosmetic and the current year versus last year. The 5150 series will differ from the VELO series in that the VELO series offer a composite end-cap as well as a synthetic leather grip. Both models will be one-piece very well balanced bats. Typically, we recommend balanced bats for contact or gap-hitters. A two-piece bat could potentially increase your bat speed.
Joe

Which bat would be better for a power hitter, this 5150 or the Marucci Black 2? dusty888
Both the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the Marucci Black 2 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBB20) would both be nice options. The stiffer feel of the 5150 would often be more preferred by a power hitter because it offers more control over the bat at high swing speeds and an easier ability to push or pull the ball.
Patrick
Which bat has better pop: The 5150 or the VELO? thebig32
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the VELO will have similar performance. It is tough to say one will outperform the other with the BBCOR stamp. The VELO has a more balanced feel and has a slightly larger sweet spot compared to the 5150 though.
Jason
Which bat is more balanced, the 2015 Velo or the 2015 5150? Ben0692
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) features a similar balanced design to the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRVB). The swing-weight on these two models is very similar.
Joe
Does this bat have more pop than the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBCA2? jdog
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) will feature a similar design, balance and performance to the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBCA2). Pop is not a technical term and both bats are BBCOR certified which limits the overall performance of the bat.
Joe
Does this bat or the Marucci Black 2 have better pop? ajh163b
The BBCOR certifications on all theseRawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the Marucci Black 2 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBB20) limits the performance or "pop" that the bats are capable of; because of this, factors such as sweet spot size and feel at contact are often the biggest difference between bat models.
Liz
What is the difference between this bat and the Rawlings 2015 VELO balance BBCOR? greg
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) is a one-piece alloy bat made out of 5150 alloy. The 2015 VELO balance features the same 5150 alloy, but the also features a Comp-Lite end cap, longer barrel, longer taper, and slightly thicker handle. These features provide the VELO with a bigger sweet spot and overall more balanced feel.
Jason
I just got this bat for my son. Saturday was his first game and after he hit the ball, the home plate ump looked at the bat and said it was illegal for the city league. The reason he gave was that it did not have the 1.15 BPF stamp on it. What are my options at this point? Can I return it and get the correct bat? Jesse
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) features BBCOR certification which is actually more strict than the 1.15 BPF standard. The vast majority of leagues would not restrict the use of this bat because it does not give any type of advantage to the player over a 1.15 BPF model. Unfortunately, once the bat has been used, the only option for return or replacement would be to the manufacturer for a damage to the bat or a defect in its design. I would check with a league official to make sure the umpire wasn't just confused.
Patrick
Would you recommend this bat for power hitters? j
The stiff flex and good durability of the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) make it a great option for a power hitter.
Patrick
MY SON IS 14. HE USUALLY BATS ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 6 IN THE LINEUP, MOSTLY 3. I KNOW WE NEED A 32 INCH BAT, JUST CANT DECIDE WHICH ONE TO GO WITH; VELO OR 5150? don
The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513) and the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBV3) are both nice options. The VELO has a bit lighter swing weight so may allow for better bat speed. Other than that, they should perform around the same.
Patrick
My son is a 13 year old playing up to 14U travel ball this year. While he had 4 home runs in past season tourney ball last summer, he is mostly a long line drive hitter. He used a 32 inch -10 Vexxum last year. He has been working out all winter with an Insane 32 inch -3. I want to upgrade him to either a two piece -3 or the 5150 or even Cat 6. The comments on stiffness, etc. have me confused. Any opinion you can offer? He is the only lefty on the team and stands 5 foot 9 and 160 pounds. Gregy
Based on height and weight, a 32 inch model should still be a good fit. As far as one-piece versus two-piece in regard to flex or stiffness, there are general features to each style. One-piece baseball bats use the same material throughout the entire design. The advantage of the one-piece design is that you get a stronger, stiffer bat that is generally favored by power hitters looking for as little flex as possible. In two-piece baseball bats you'll find that the handle is a separate piece from the barrel and that the two are bonded together. The advantage to a two-piece bat is that its design allows the barrel to flex at the point of contact creating a trampoline effect off the barrel. Two-piece bats generally have less vibration in the handle due to the separation of the handle and barrel.
Patrick

What are the differences between the BB513 and the BB5150? What type of batter should use which bat? sam
The Rawlings 5150 Baseball Bat BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB5150) has a composite light end cap for faster swing speeds than the Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB513). They are both extremely balanced, so they are both recommended for contact hitters or players looking to work on bat speed and bat control.
Tessa
I am a big boy/power hitter. I need a bat that will better fit my swing style. I have a lot of power, with great hands, that makes a lot of contact. Which bat would be better for me to use. First would you recommend a composite bat or aluminum bat? Second i have two bats this Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB513 and the Easton 2015 XL1 (the orange one) which would be better for my swing style, just to get that extra 10 feet? jc
Typically, stronger players/power hitters with above average swing speed prefer one piece bats because they are stiffer and have less flex in the bat during the swings. As for alloy vs composite, that is a personal preference and feel aspect for each individual player. Stronger players do prefer end loaded bats, in addition to the one piece because end loaded bats are designed for players who can generate their own bat speed, which helps create more power with the end loaded weight design. As for your current bats, both are different, but good for your swing type. The Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB513 is a one piece alloy design, so you will get the stiff bat feel. The Easton XL1 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB15X1 is a two-piece composite design, but is much more end loaded than the other bat. Both bats would be great for your swing type and would help generate more power.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
