Description

Increase your swing VELOcity with the Rawlings 5150 VELO! The 5150 VELO features an incredibly lightweight design and thinner walls to help young players develop their swing speed and hit the ball further. If a player is having trouble getting a bat around, it will negatively affect their mechanics and ultimately not allow them to hit for power. That's where the VELO comes in. The VELO is made from Rawlings 5150 Alloy that features unmatched durability that provides 10x more strength than traditional alloys. This allows Rawlings to make the barrel walls much thinner to produce a lighter swing weight. But that's not all. Thinner walls also allow for increased barrel flex that results in some of the best trampoline effect of any alloy bat in the game. The precision manufacturing techniques used by Rawlings give players the maximum allowable performance by a youth baseball bat. Maximum allowable performance, increased swing speed, and thin walls will equate to one thing: MORE POWER AT THE PLATE! As with all of Rawlings' premium bats, the 5150 VELO was developed with the help of Sci-Fly Technology. Sci-Fly uses Doppler Radar to track ball flight characteristics and measure the launch angle, ball speed, distance, and spin rate from the point of contact. This information helps Rawlings create a bat with nothing less than optimal performance. Rawlings: Maximum Performance Where it Matters Most on the Field! The 5150 VELO features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is approved for play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

BIGTIME Kyman coach

Pros: Swings extremely light, but the ball absolutely flies off the bat. The "ping" off the bat will scare infielders to death. LoL. Very loud and wasn't expecting that from a -5. It isn't too far from the sound of the old blue and white Worth lithium. Not had it long enough to comment on durability.

Cons: Nada.

Best bat ever Charlie Dillon player

Pros: I play 13-u and I love this bat. Im really short for my age (like 5 foot) but this bat is perfect for that. I use the -5 31/26 and its awsome. Unlike other bats its not extremely top heavy, so it only feels like -8. This bat is awsome and is a hit machine.

Cons: None

When will you receive a 30" 25 oz. model in this bat? How much lighter does this bat feel compared to the Easton XL3? Idk Idc
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SLV5 Senior League will be available in a 30" 25 oz. in about 2-4 weeks as we receive more in from Rawlings. It will feel much more evenly balanced compared to the Easton XL3's barrel heavy, end loaded feel.

Does the 2014 Velo come in -8? SGD
No, Rawlings will not have the 5150 Velo available in a -8 drop.
John
Is it going to come in a drop 3? Is this for a power or a contact hitter? mitchthekidgenious
The 2014 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBV3 Adult should be released within the next few weeks. The VELO is one of the lightest swinging bats on the market and is best suited for contact hitters.
John H
Will the 2014 VELO have the same sound as the 2013 version? Mike R
Both the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SLV5 Senior League and the 2013 Rawlings VELO: SLVEL5 Senior League have 5150 Alloy which will give it a similar sound.
Jason
Should I get this bat, the new Rip-It Air -5, or the new Demarini VooDoo -5? That doe
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 is a one-piece alloy design, with a balanced swing weight. The Rip-It Air is also a balanced one-piece alloy bat. The DeMarini VooDoo will have an end load feel and is a two-piece hybrid design.
Tori
What is the difference between the 2013 and 2014 Rawlings VELO -5? Zach
The only big difference between the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SLV5 Senior League and the 2013 model is the end cap. The 2014 features a Speedcap end cap, where as, the 2013 had a Comp-Lite end cap. Other than that the only other differences will be cosmetic.
Tori

What is the difference between this bat and the normal 5150 -5 bat? I know this one is more balanced with the M.O.I. stuff, but is the normal 5150 end loaded or is it fairly balanced? TCABaller14
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SLV5 Senior League features the Comp-Lite Composite end cap which takes some dead weight out of the bat. This improvement over the 5150's design is the reason the VELO has a lower M.O.I. than the 5150. But the 5150 is not end loaded by any means. It's still a solid choice for a player looking for increased bat speed.
Mac
Is this bat approved for Dixie Youth baseball? Mark
According to the most recent rules, the only age division in Dixie baseball that would allow the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO (SLV5) Senior League bat would be the "Junior Dixie" division for 13-14 year old boys.
Patrick
Is this bat approved for USSSA, and is it aluminum or composite? Butch
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO (SLV5) is a one-piece aluminum design and is approved for USSSA play.

I have some smaller kids on my 14U team. I am trying to find a bat that they can swing. We can only use -5 or -3. I am looking at the Rawlings Velo and the Easton XL3 because of the price. Which one would better suite my needs? rich1015
The 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO (SLV5) Senior League bat would be the better option of those two if you are looking for a light swing weight. The Velo is more balanced whereas the Easton XL3 (SL13X35) Senior League bat is more end-loaded which will make the bat feel heavier in the barrel.
Patrick
I have a 12 year old that is using a drop 9. Good contact hitter, gap hitter. Weighs 83 lbs, 5 foot tall. I'm looking at the 31/26 or the 30/25. Any suggestions? michael
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" 25 oz. 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO (SLV5).

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
