Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat: YBS7152? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Why does the handle bulge at the end? coolJ
The bulge in the grip toward the knob of the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) is the tapered part of the handle. The taper toward the knob makes for a more comfortable swing. Many Youth bats do not feature a tapered handle.
Mac
Is this an Official Little League approved bat? It is not on the list at the Little League website? kstock
Yes, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) will have the required barrel diameter and stamping needed for Youth play. The approved bat list on the Little League website may not be fully updated with the new 2015 bat models.

How does the Select 715 Youth compare with Easton MAKO? mugz
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) is going to be a three piece hybrid design, with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The Select 715 and the MAKO are balanced bats, however the Select 715 may feel slightly more end heavy between the two. The Easton MAKO is a two piece full composite design.

Between the 915 and 715, which one is going to have a more balance feel? We have an Easton XL1 from last year, but we are looking for something lighter than (-10) with balanced feel. We do not want an end loaded bat. Coachmas
The Louisville Slugger 915 will be an extremely balanced option and is the best option for you. The 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) will feel slightly end loaded because of its two-piece hybrid design. The hybrid design with the composite handle and alloy barrel will feel end loaded compared to the Prime 915.
Jason
How does the 715 compare to the Marucci Black? tc
Both the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) and the Marucci Black Youth Baseball Bat (MYB11) are hybrid designs but will be a bit different. The Black is a seamless hybrid that will flex a bit less for more control but the Select will have better sting and vibration protection. The Select has a bit more barrel heavy feel while the Black is very well balanced.
Patrick
Does the 715 have a break-in process? Cowboy
No, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 Youth Baseball Bat (YBS7152) will not require any break-in period. Alloy or aluminum barrel bats will never require a period of break-in.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
