Description

The team at COMBAT said that "something big" was in the works. But the bat that emerged has pushed through the boundaries of what was even considered possible with a composite bat design! Introducing: the new COMBAT MAXUM! COMBAT has made a name for themselves in the bat industry by consistently delivering bats that offer an extreme combination of a light swing weight and HUGE sweet spot, but the MAXUM takes the crown in both categories. This COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 provides not only the largest sweet spot in the industry offered in a Youth (2 1/4") model, but it totes the lightest swing weight (by a full ounce) of any COMBAT Youth model ever! These bats are one-piece composite designs created through advanced Precision Molding Technology (PMT). Unlike typical composite bats that are created by rolling/overlapping layers of material, the PMT process injects liquid resin into seamless high-quality carbon sleeves under extreme pressure. The result is an ultra-consistent product that eliminates seams/weak points that you get with the traditional process. That means that players can rest-assured that the MAXUM will deliver perfectly tuned performance over a longer lifespan. The MAXYB112 carries the USSSA BPF 1.15 Performance Certification mark on its taper and is approved for play in Little League Baseball, USSSA, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and Babe Ruth. Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. COMBAT: Measure Up to MAXUM! Free Shipping!

Pros: This bat has a big sweetspot only 1 inch less than the mako. But way lighter. If your son has a little problem getting the mako around this bat is for you. Pop is also just as good.

Combat does it again - Great Bat Rich parent

Pros: Huge sweet spot especially towards the handle. I have 29/17 which is measured accurately to 17 oz. Light swing weight. Excellent color/graphics...beautiful bat. Son had (3) doubles in the first two games with this bat. I will probably get the 30, 31 and 32 inch version of this bat in the future.

Cons: graphics chip easier than expected

disappointing performance 9u dad parent

Pros: Limited pros. Good grip, better balance and lighter weight than other comparable composites.

Cons: Very disappointed with this bat. Just not nearly as solid as better known composites. Although the sweet spot appears longer, it is not as forgiving as others. Especially when hit out on the end, balls barely come off the bat. Also not sure why all the positive reviews -- there is just no comparison between this bat and others.

Just ok! DR player

Pros: Light swing weight, balanced bat and nice colors and cool grip. My 9 year old likes the bat.

Cons: Composite material is not as solid as previous combat bats. This composite material needs to have end-loaded presence for ultimate performance. Sorry combat, the performance does not match Easton's Mako XL or Mako youth baseball bats.

Bummer :( VERY disappointed for such a high priced bat coach

Pros: Balance, swing speed, barrel length and overall feel of the bat is amazing. The Lizard Skinz grip is a nice addition. Other than that..... BOOOO :(

Cons: For being a $279 bat, this thing sucks! From the time we took the wrapper off of it and sent it through the proper break-in process with tees, soft toss and then live hitting until nowa, half way through our season, this bat has been a HUGE disappointment. It has ZERO pop, and like the other review mentioned, if you hit it off the end of the bat (last inch or so), the ball barely gets out in front of the plate. Even solid, square hits barely make it out of the infield. Switched to a CF7 on Monday and the first 5 balls my son hit landed 20+ feet deep into the outfield grass. Two words.... VERY DISAPPOINTED

Pros: -The weight is right on, not 2-3 Oz heavier than stated like the 2 Mako bats we have -The swing weight is really light -The barrel is super long so the sweet spot is huge -Sounds real solid -The big barrel version of this bat my son uses has been great too for almost a year

COMBAT MAXUM SMITES EASTON MAKO! Jeff Harper parent

Pros: My 6 year old is in farm, and has 5 very good bats. We just got the the Maxum 28" 16oz. drop12 A few days before that we got a Easton Maxum CXN 28"17oz. drop11. so he put them to work in a head to head. Other bats:Worth Copperhead 28"18oz. drop10. Easton S50 27" 17 oz. drop 10 , Louisville Slugger Ash 28" very very heavy. We started on a T then took pitches, for a total of 200+ he hit alot of balls switching bats every 20 or so. The Mako seems heavy far more than the stated 1 oz. difference and not as evenly weighted(end heavy). he had alot of foul balls when hit near the end of the Mako and it was hard for him to make adjustments in his swing to meet the ball. The combat seems far lighter and was easy for him to adjust to a dropping pitch and when hit near the end of the bat the ball still didn't foul out. the Maxum dose not make the same pop sound as the Mako and it doesn't seem as loud but when both are hit in the sweet spot (generous in both bats) the Maxum out hit the Mako

Cons: NONE! My son says the Combat Maxum is his new game bat. It gives him more line drives at further distance and so far no foul balls.

Nice Bat! Great Price! Richard Jones coach

Pros: Just got a 30"-180z, 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 for my son. My son is 11 and small for his age, only 4'-7" and 75 lb. I was looking for a bat that was well balanced but would add some "pop" to his hits. He's old bat was a 30"-17oz bat and the new Combat feels as light as the old bat due to the Combat's balance. I'm sure the bat still needs some breaking in but I can already tell that this bat has more "pop" than his old one. I can't comment on it's durability yet but based on other Combat reviews I assume that durability won't be an issue.

Cons: None yet

Highest Bat Speed and Exit Speed Dr. Dave parent

Pros: In a world of Sabermetrics and all those algorithms being applied, I found this bat measured out the highest bat speed and batted ball exit speed. What does that mean? I had my son try out every bat and had it analyzed using big league technology of impact, radar, in a controlled environment with his hitting instructor and a computer for input. After all the Easton, DeMarini, Louisville Slugger, Axe, and Combat bats...The Maxum scored the highest with Mako the lowest. My 9 year old 55lbs son had a more controlled balanced swing and drove the ball further with the Combat Maxum -12 than any other bat he tried out. There was a noticeable difference and it "wowed" everyone there. After hitting with the Combat he said "This is the one." At practice the coaches were surprised at how much he's able to drive the ball. Regardless of what anyone tells you, the bat makes all the difference in the world.

Cons: My son is a practice rat and will hit 100 balls off the Tee after 150 soft toss and then hit with live pitching. With that said, his first 28/16 -12 cracked near the neck. Once it crack, it sounded terrible and lost all it's pop. My son insisted on the same bat as a replacement which Justbats.com replaced without hesitation.

One of the best kept secrets in Little League Coach K coach

Pros: My son is 6 playing up in the Pinto division 7-8 yr olds and It took only a few games for the word around the league to watch for the kid with the green Combat. My son 48" 56lbs finished summer and fall ball with a combined .986 average and batted 3rd all season long with a 28/16. We are in an AAAAAA school district so the talent is pretty deep so you need every advantage you can. Spring ball was Shetland league and he used the Combat PG4 with the softer baseballs but as soon as we started with the harder baseballs he was complaining about bat sting. Tried the Mako's and the Voodoo and some Demarini's but the Maxum he gets the fastest hand speed and the exit velocity is just incredible for a kid his size. Get used to hearing the other coaches say "Outfield BACKUP" when your using the Maxum.

Cons: Takes about 300 balls to break in but you will see the exit velocity jump up.

Pros: My boy who is 10 used and loved his mako..but after half a season the bat lost its pop..found this combat and gave it a try. when received it to the house couldn't believe how light it was and tried it out and after only 10 hits I was amazed at bat speed and how the ball was popping off the bat.I highly recommend this bat ...those lazy ground balls that are hit will turn into base hits for sure

Cons: just received it...nothing yet...durability will be key

Does this back have to be broken in before seeing its full potential? If so, what's the recommended way to do so? Jenna
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) is a composite bat so it does require a break-in for the bat to perform at its highest level. To properly break in your composite bat, we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work our way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings. It"s also important to rotate the bat ¼' after each swing to ensure that you get complete barrel coverage.
Jake

The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 is going to feature an extended barrel and an extended manufacturer's warranty (500 days), where as the 2016 Combat Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 will feature a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty.
Nick
What is the recommended break in time for the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) Ty
Generally composite baseball bats like the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) are going to need around 150 to 200 hits on them to start performing up to their potential. When breaking in a composite baseball bat, it is important to start off at about 50% power and gradually increase as your swing count rises. It is also important to rotate the bat about a 1/4 inch on every swing. This ensures that your bat gets evenly broken in.
Damon
what is the difference between this bat and the MAXSL112? My 7 year old plays kid pitch in Pony. PONY PINTO DAD
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 features a smaller 2 1/4" barrel diameter. The MAXSL112 features a bigger 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Jason
do they make this bat in a big barrel jake
The COMBAT MAXUM is featured in a big barrel model. It comes in either a 2 5/8" or 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter. The model numbers for these bats would be: 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL110 and 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MAXSL210.
Cameron
I have a small 6 year old that will be moving up to Pinto in the Fall. He currently has a 2015 Easton S3, 25"/15 oz (2 5/8" barrel). Will the Maxum 26"/14 oz provide better performance or will the Easton be fine? NickSR
If you guys experienced excellent results with the S3 and he is still comfortable with that bat, I don't want to say that you have to buy a new bat, but this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) will feature an extended barrel length and a great sweet spot that could provide some excellent results as well.
Ben
My son is turning 13 will this be a good bat for him? beseball
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) would be an excellent option for your son.
Jake
Just curious if any of you 2 5/8 barrels are Dixie youth approved? Just finished up the All Star season and some of the 6u teams were using them and really driving the ball 120 ft or better. My son is moving up to 7u you in the fall and his Rawlings 5150 is already denting after one season. Which of your combats youth maxum bats would you recommend? Carter
In Dixie Youth you are not going to be able to use a 2 5/8" barrel until you are in the 'O' Zone Division for 11-12 year olds. I would recommend the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112.
Carter
My son is 10 and has been using a big barrel bat in the past, but he likes the feel of a 2 1/4" barrel. He is 63 lbs and is 4'9". He is a contact hitter. I'm looking at this particular Combat and the MAKO (YB16MK11). I've heard the smaller barrel bats are better for his situation, is this accurate? What would you recommend? 11 u dad
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a bat in the 30" length. Although I generally recommend using a big barrel bat if it is allowed, there will be no issue using the smaller barrel bat if that is what your player prefers. If you think he will benefit from the lighter -12 bat, definitely go after this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112). However, the if the -11 will be best, get that MAKO model.
Ben
My son is 12 years old, 4'10" and 75 lbs. Is the MAXUM considered a better bat than the Portent in terms of performance, materials etc? Also, what size should I get? TeddyBallGame
This 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) was considered by COMBAT to be the higher quality bat when compared to the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112). Both bats are one-piece, all-composite bats; but the thing that sets the MAXUM apart is the size of the sweet spot on it. The MAXUM sweet spot will be longer than the sweet spot on the Portent (however, both bats are rated well). The current reason the 2016 Portent is priced higher than this 2016 MAXUM is because both bats have been out on the market for a while and we are now able to price them based upon the demand and the amount of each bat in stock. Based upon your player's height and weight (and accounting for potential growth), I would recommend considering the 31"/19 oz size of this MAXUM.
Ben
My son is going from coach pitch to little league. He has been using an Easton Mako; how does this Combat (either the -10 or -12)compare to the Mako? Joe
If your son was using the 2016 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB16MK12B), which is the Mako designed for coach pitch, the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) is going to be very comparable. They will both be one piece composite bats. They are both high quality and great options. I think that this Maxum is a good step up from the coach pitch Mako bat and will offer similar feeling.
Carter
I'm going to be playing in 13 year old Babe Ruth. Am I allowed to use this bat? Also, some people have said that I cannot use the 2016 Easton MAKO, but the website and the description says it is Babe Ruth approved. g
The 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth requires a barrel diameter of 2 5/8", and if using a bat with a composite barrel, it must be BBCOR certified. You would not be able to use the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 as it has a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. It also has a composite barrel and is USSSA certified. You would be able to use the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK in your league, but not any youth or senior league models of the Easton MAKO.
Angelique
My nephew is 9 years old, (turns 10 in June). He is about 4'10" and weighs a good 90 lbs. He's been using an Easton bat. I'm looking for a bat for him to use in Dixie League 10U division for the Spring season. Would this bat be great for a kid that has power? Yesenia Vargas
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of a bat in the 30" length. Since he sounds like he is a pretty strong kid, I might recommend looking beyond a bat with a -12 length to weight ratio like this 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112). I might suggest looking for something a bit heavier with a -10 length-to-weight ratio. My suggestion would be the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -10 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB110) in the 30"/20 oz weight. I think the extra mass provided by the -10 length-to-weight ratio will assist your player's power and maybe even the durability of the bat.

My son is a small 11 year old. He is about 4'2" and 55 lbs. He plays both Little League and 11u club baseball. Will this bat be good for him and what size? He currently uses 29/18 Easton MAKO (his friend's bat). dad
The 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat: MAXYB112 is a very balanced bat featuring a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. For someone of your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting this bat in a 28 inch 16 ounce model. The Easton MAKO will reduce vibration more than the MAXUM as it is a two-piece composite while the MAXUM is a one-piece alloy bat; both bats though will perform well and are durable.
