How does this bat compare with Vigor -10 2017? I need a big barrel for my 9 year old power hitter. julio
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL210 and the 2017 COMBAT Vigor are both one-piece composite bats with balanced swing weights. The slight difference between the two is the barrel length with the COMBAT Vigor having a slightly longer barrel length compared to the Portent G4. This difference in barrel length will help give the Vigor a slightly more balanced swing weight feel.

Will this bat be good for a 7 yr old in a 26/16oz? What's the difference in a junior big barrel or a youth big barrel bat, as long as the weight and length are the same? art
This bat is well suited to a youth player. Junior Big Barrel bats are intended for coach pitch or machine pitch, and will not hold up long against kid pitch/higher velocities. Youth Big Barrel bats are designed to handle throw ball at higher velocities better than Junior Big Barrel bats.

My son just turned 7. He is 45 inches tall & weighs 43 lbs. He will be hitting off of a machine at 42 mph but cannot use a big barrel at the park he's playing for. I've heard composite bats are the way to go but what do you suggest for him? What size & type of bat? B's mom
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a youth barrel bat in a 27 or 28 inch model. Composite bats are typically going to feature a lighter swing weight feel and slightly larger sweet spot but for younger players they are not usually going to experience the benefits of these bats due to them not being able to swing them fast enough. We would recommend looking into a balanced bat that is a two-piece design to help reduce vibration from off-centered hits.

What is the difference between this bat and the Vigor? Which one would you recommend for a 11 thru 9 year old player? tom
The Portent G4 and the Vigor are very similar bats. The only difference seems to be that the Vigor feels like a slightly lighter swinging bat than the G4. Both would be very good options.

The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL110 has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter while the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL210 features a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.

Do I need to have my boy do anything special to make sure this bat gets broke in properly? bjdayton
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL210 is pretty hot out of the wrapper, and you could use it right away. However, we feel the bat would benefit from about 100 swings off a tee initially. It is best to gradually work your swing speed up from about 50% and rotate the barrel about a quarter turn every few swings.
