Description

For 2016, Easton has brought the most expansive line of power and performance to the market with the all-new Power Brigade Series!

TCT Thermo Composite Technology is the key to the MAKO TORQ's industry-leading swing speed, massive sweet spot, and pure feel on contact. This innovative material comprises both the barrel and handle which are united by Easton's patented 2-PC ConneXion Technology. By isolating the handle from the barrel with the connection joint, energy transfer is maximized while simultaneously eliminating any unwanted vibration. The MAKO TORQ's foundation is then optimized with a lower MOI for the best combination of barrel and bat speed on the market. Sounds like exactly what every ballplayer is searching for, right? Well, the team at Easton has taken this design to a whole new level with the inclusion of the TORQ 360 Degree Rotating Handle Technology. Last season, the TORQ Handle surpassed all expectations and more-than-delivered on its promises:

Own The Inner Half: The TORQ Handle frees up your hands, allowing hitters to barrel-up the inside pitch and avoid the dreaded "jam sandwich".

Stay Inside The Ball: By getting your hands inside the ball, the TORQ promotes the best swing mechanics for more consistent, powerful contact.

Power To All Fields: TORQ Technology helps you keep the barrel on-plane longer through the hitting zone, so you can drive the ball with more backspin (to all parts of the yard).

The TORQ features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, -8 length to weight ratio, new TORQ TAQ Performance Grip, and the USSSA BPF 1.15 Certification. Mason Mason parent

Pros: Right out of the wrapper this bat has much more pop than the S2 or S3! My son is a contact hitter and he likes the balanced feel as opposed to the Mako XL that is end loaded. He seems to be hitting more line drives. We have hit at least 15 buckets of balls now and he has not complained once about vibration. So far, we are very happy with this bat.

Cons: I am not completely sold on the Torq handle. Although, my son said he does not even feel it rotate when he swings. Worst case scenario we will tape the handle so that it does not rotate if it bothers him. Overall, it's a great bat!

First Easton that was BB coach

Pros: Bought this for my 11 year old son. Have tried Combat, Demarini, LS, and other Eastons (among others too). Spent about an hour reading up on this bat. Decided to give it a shot. Composite bats have always had better contact for my son. First two practices, four home runs straight away CF that were "no doubters". Definitely recommend this bat. Will most likely get him the -3 model for Middle School tryouts in the spring.

Cons: None yet.

Great Upgrade Jack parent

Pros: Swings lighter than its weight, very well balanced. 11 year old added 20 yards to hits. Makes contact hitter more dangerous and likely to get on base. Good pop. Quickly becoming fall team's favorite bat. Looks good, swings better.

Pros: This bat is a MAKO, so you cannot lose. It comes out of the wrapper with tons of pop! Good bat for contact and power hitters. The spinning handle is not truly noticeable if you are punching through with the top hand the correct way. This bat is truly a steal. I wouldn't continue to sleep on this deal. My 12 year old son says the drop -8 is just right.

Cons: None so far .

Great deal D. parent

Pros: I bought this bat for my soon to be 12 year old in a -5 for his middle school team. He is moving up from a -10 and says he can barely tell the difference with the Mako. The bat seems to be very balanced. I'm seeing a lot of gap to gap ropes.

Cons: After the first bucket, my son asked me to replace the grip with lizard skin and tape the rotating handle with sports tape under the grip. We bought the bat for the Mako barrel, and the Torq model was on clearance 1/3rd of the price of the of the other model. If you don't mind doing a little surgery, it is totally worth it.

son loves it baseball mom parent

Pros: My son is 13 and joined a fed ball team this year. This bat has helped with his confidence at the plate. He loves it. Too soon to say much about durability, but other kids on his team have this bat from last season and are bringing it with them this season. I'm happy I got a great price and received the bat two days after I ordered it! I will order from justbats again and have recommended them to other parents.

Great Price Diesel coach

Pros: Great price on this bat!!! My son was dead set against the Torq but with the price so low I couldn't pass up. My son did not want to deal with the twisting handle however as soon as I got the bat I cut the grip off and glued the handle with Gorilla glue. I let the glue sit for 24 hours and then Gorilla taped the handle. After that I put a new grip on the bat and it was like a brand new Mako for half the price. My son has had several sessions in the cage with zero issues thus far. The bat has the pop and sound that you would expect from a Mako bat.

Cons: Requires some work if you want to stop the rotating handle.

My Son's favorite bat! Ron parent

Pros: My son already had the LS Prime 917 -10 and had been using it since the fall but when I picked this up he fell in love with the POP and huge sweet spot! My son is mostly a contact hitter so loves the balanced feel. I'm glad I didn't miss out on this deal!

so far so good Lanette -Wisconsin parent

Pros: it seems to be one of the favorite that's with the ball team. Another boy actually went and bought one as well. I can tell my son hits the ball harder and farther with this bat. He has always been a good contact hitter, but now there's even more Power with his hits. He actually used it in 43° weather which is not recommended and it held up great. (I was not happy about that! ) they did not have any problems with vibration either.

Cons: The rotating handle, but the kids don't seem to mind it. waiting to see how my son he handles his drop three bat with no rotating handle when he plays and his pony league.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat end loaded or balanced for a contact hitter? Dano
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 has a balanced swing weight that tends to cater more towards contact hitters.
John
What's the difference between this bat and the SL15MK8T? jROCK
This 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) will use the same TCT Thermo Composite material and the same TORQ 360 Degree Rotating Handle as is present on the SL15MK8T. The only real difference between the bats will be the cosmetics and the new TORQ TAQ grip that is on this 2016 model.
Ben
Is it legal to use in Pony baseball? How does it compare to the Combat MAXUM senior bat? FrankR
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is legal for every division of Pony except for the Colt and Palomino divisions. The MAXUM is a one-piece fully composite, while TORQ is a two-piece composite. The TORQ also features a bottom portion of the handle that rotates 360 degrees. This allows for a player to get the barrel of the bat in the hitting zone quicker and keep in the hitting zone longer.
Jason
Is this bat legal for use in the 13-15 Babe Ruth League? brawny
This 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) will not be allowed for use in the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth Baseball. The reason is because all bats that have USSSA 1.15 BPF certification (like this MAKO TORQ) can only be used in that division if they have an alloy barrel on them. This MAKO TORQ has composite material on the barrel and therefore will not be allowed in that division.
Ben
Would this be legal in the Dixie Youth Baseball O-Zone league? DMorris
Yes the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 would be legal in the Dixie Youth Baseball O-Zone League.
Carter
Would this bat be legal in middle school baseball in Michigan? bnichols
Unfortunately, I would not know the exact answer as to whether or not this 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) will be legal for use in the middle school league in which your player plays. I would recommend reaching out to the coach and getting a list of the specifications needed for a bat in your league.
Ben
Is this bat legal in senior league? Cyrusg
This bat will be used by youth players who play in leagues that allow them to use big barrel bats, once the kids reach high school they will need to use BBCOR certified bats. If you are looking for senior league softball bats this link will take you to all of the bats we have that are certified for Senior League Softball - http://www.justbats.com/products/approved%20for~senior%20softball/
Carter

Angelique
Can you use this in 12 and 13u? Is this bat legal? Does it have BBCOR certification? What does senior league bat mean? It isn't a softball bat correct? greg
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) is a baseball bat. It does not have BBCOR certification, that is only drop 3 bats that are designed for high school and collegiate play. Whether this bat is legal depends on the league you are in. Are leagues rules vary a little bit. To get a more specific answer call, chat, or email in your league and we will be able to tell you if this bat is legal in your league.
Carter
My 13 yr old just finished Little League and is playing in a league prepping him for high school ball. Was using a MAKO TORQ 31 -10. What should we use to get ready for BBCOR? Jay
I would suggest using the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8). However, if he can handle the extra weight, using the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT5) would definitely help him get ready for the jump to BBCOR.
Carter
My son is 5'8" and about 110 pounds. I'm looking to get him a -8 composite bat. Which size is more appropriate for him, a 31/23 or 32/24? Last year he used and liked a 31/21, but has grown since then. Matt
Based on your son's height and weight, the best size to get the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 in is a 31''. However, if he is comfortable with the 31'', he is right on the edge to moving up to a 32''.
Tori
Is this bat approved for Little League 2017 and what will the status be for 2018? Is it BBCOR stamped? My son will be entering the junior league 13/14 this season. Mary
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 should be legal for your league in 2017, but I always suggest checking with your league's officials before purchasing. It is not BBCOR certified.
Logan
Can this bat be used in Pony League Pinto? david
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 can be used for Pony League Pinto.
Cameron
My son is 12 yrs old 5'4", 130 lbs. Always been a heavy contact hitter, 5+ Homeruns each year. Been playing for 7 yrs always at position 3 or 4 in the batting lineup. Looking for a composite bat that will help with his power and more line drives. So many different bats and so many coaches views. shane
Based on what you have told us about your son and his height and weight we would recommend the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK5) in a 31"/26 ounce or a 32"/27 ounce depending on what he feels more comfortable with.
Carter
My son is 12, 5'4" and 115 lbs. He joined his first travel & we are looking for a big barrel bat. He is a power hitter usually taking the ball to the fence or over. Any suggestions on bat? Jen
Based on your son's height and weight I would recommend a 31"/23 ounce 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8).
Carter
Is this a drop 5 bat? tank
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 features a drop 8.
Jason
I am shopping for my 10 year old son. He is a power hitter that weighs 113 lbs and 5 ft tall. Please give me a recommendation on the size? Also, I am debating between the Easton S550 for $99 or this Mako Torq? Will you see the Torq worth the $20 more? Robert
Based on your sons height and weight I would recommend the 30"/22 ounce 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8). The Mako Torq was a very expensive bat when it came out and the Mako series is the most popular series Easton has to offer I would recommend it.
Carter
Is this bat legal in Little League? (12-U) Rob
This 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) would not be permitted for use in any division of Little League baseball. The combination of an all-composite build, 2 5/8" barrel and USSSA 1.15 certification are not permitted unfortunately.
Ben
My son is 12 and is currently using a Marucci Cat 6 30/22. He is 4'10" and 130 lbs. Would you recommend a longer bat? He hits a penetrating, rising ball. He plays on a major travel team. AJ
We would recommend a 30-31" length for someone his size, so a 30" should be fine.
Kyle J.
I am 13, 5'10" and 135 pounds. What size bat should I buy? joeybats
We would recommend a 32-33" length of bat for your size.
Kyle J.
I have a 14 year old son that is 5'9" 160 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Amanda
If your 14 year old is not required to use a BBCOR bat yet we would recommend swinging a 32"/24 ounce 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8).
Carter
Is this bat a big barrel drop 3? baseball player
No, the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) is a big barrel bat that features a -8 design.
Carter
Is this bat legal for use in Pony? wilson
This 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) will be legal for Pony play for the remainder of 2017 (legal for Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco and Pony divisions). However, once USABat certification is required for 2018 use, this bat will no longer be allowed in Pony play.
Ben
Looking for a bat for my son. He's 5'10" 135 lbs 12 years old. What size bat would be a good fit for him? BigboyK
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 31"/23 ounce 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8).
Carter
Looking for a bat for my son. He is 10 years old, 5'1" and 105 lbs. What would be the best weight? Trey m
If your player can handle a bat like this 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) that will feature a -8 length-to-weight ratio, I would recommend a 30" or 31" bat. A 30" bat would be 22 oz and a 31" bat would be 23 oz. That being said, most 10 year olds are looking to bats with -10 length-to-weight ratios.
Ben
My son is 12 years old and is 4 foot 8 and weighs around 100-110 pounds. He swings a 2016 MAKO composite (29/18, -11 drop, 2 1/4 inch) and is comfortable with that weight/length. Is there a 2 5/8 big barrel bat (Easton MAKO) comparable to his current bat? Or any another big barrel bat (2 5/8) comparable to his current bat? stefan
Unfortunately there would not be an Easton MAKO featured in a big barrel with a drop of 11. There is an 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST HYPERLITE -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK12B but this bat is a one-piece composite featuring a 2 3/4" barrel diameter with a -12 drop. The closest thing we have in a -10 would be the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK10.
Cameron
We are interested in this bat. My son is 5' and weighs around 93 pounds. Think he can handle it? BB Dad
Yes I would recommend the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) in the 30"/22 ounce version.
Carter
My son is 5 foot flat and 130 lbs. Wondering what size bat would be best? ervin
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 in the 31" 23 ounce size.
Logan
Is this bat legal in Babe Ruth league play? LiL' Papi
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is NOT going to be legal in 13 year old Babe Ruth. This is because for a composite bat to be legal in 13 year Babe Ruth it would need to be BBCOR certified. This only applies to composite bats. With an aluminum bat you are able to use whatever size you would like.
Sean
Could you use this bat in middle school, big diamond? joe
This bat is USSSA certified. You will need to check with your league commissioner for further details on what bats are allowed in your league.
Kyle J.
Can I use this bat in the Pony leagues? Andrew Grotts
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is legal for use in the Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, and Pony divisions of Pony.
Jason
Is this BBCOR? Vince Bono
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) is a senior league bat, not a BBCOR bat. If you are looking for the BBCOR version of this bat it is the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKT).
Carter
Can I use this in a 50/70 league? Vince Bono
Since this 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) features composite material and the USSSA 1.15 certification, it will not be permitted for use in the 50/70 Division of Little League baseball.
Ben
What does the TORQ do? brody
The TORQ feature in the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is suppose to help allow the player to help stay inside and square up more pitches.
Cameron
Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth league 13-15 boys? brad
No, the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) is not approved for play in Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth does not allow composite barrel bats unless they are BBCOR certified.
John
Is this a big barrel bat? logan
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8is a 2 5/8'' barrel.
Tori
I'm in 50/70 intermediate and had a few questions about bats. The age of the group is 12 and 13 years of age. Do you think I could use this bat or would I need a BBCOR stamp on it? If the BBCOR stamp is not required could I use this bat? Vince Bono
You do not have to use a BBCOR bat with 50/70 Little League, however, the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) is a composite bat and you do have to use a BBCOR bat if it is composite so you cannot use this one. I would recommend taking a look at the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X38) as you can use that in your division.
Carter
Is this bat allowed in modified baseball for the school? bat
From what I can see on Modified Baseball rules it is going to require BBCOR bats. Meaning that the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MKT8) would not be legal as you would need a -3. Here is the link where I found that information - http://www.sectionxi.org/handbook/modifiedsports/baseball.htm
Carter
How long does it take to ship? bball40
If the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is placed before 8 PM CST during the week then this bat would ship out the same day. With the free ground shipping through UPS most customers receive their package within 2-3 business days.
Cameron
Is this bat full composite? There is a new rule for my league saying we can no longer use full composite barrels. Boi lives long
Yes, the 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is a two-piece fully composite bat. If your league does not allow composite barrel bats this bat would not be legal.
Jason
Is this bat a big barrel? billy
The 2016 Easton MAKO TORQ Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MKT8 is a 2 5/8'' barrel.
Tori
I would like to know what bat to choose from the Easton MAKO XL and the Easton MAKO TORQ? sarah
The bats are the same, except the TORQ model has the rotating handle.
Damon
My son has been using an Easton XL2 for a couple of years and it has amazing pop but is starting to show it's age. What is the most comparable bat that is available now? Mark
Considering that your son enjoyed the XL2 so much in the past, I would recommend the 2017 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17X38). It is the next model of that XL2 line and will still provide him with the 2 5/8" barrel diameter, and an end-loaded swing weight. It will be a one-piece all-aluminum bat so he may feel a slight uptick in vibrations felt, but apart from that it's a real great bat.
