Description

In the past few years, we've seen the Louisville Slugger LXT take hold of the fastpitch game and become the game-day choice of some of the best players at the Collegiate and Professional levels. Even with that success, the team at Louisville Slugger wasn't satisfied and continued to push the envelope of innovation. The result: the NEW Louisville Slugger LXT PLUS Fastpitch Softball bat! The LXT PLUS and XENO PLUS fastpitch bats share many similarities, but the LXT PLUS offers an even lighter swing weight with its TRU3 Dynamic Socket Connection Technology that allows for slight movement between the barrel and handle to eliminate more sting and vibration that may be created on off-center hits. Less vibration means more of that energy is transferred to the ball on contact for extreme performance. Like many elite players have grown accustomed to seeing in other LXT models, the barrel features the S1iD Inner Disc Barrel Technology with a Zero Friction Double Wall Design. This technology actually allows the barrel to be tuned to exceed the legal ball exit speed ratio. The trick is that a governor is placed inside that allows the barrel to flex to its MAXIMUM allowable performance from SWING 1. The LXT PLUS is made from Louisville Slugger's innovative newest Performance PLUS Composite material. This composite blend is lighter and more durable than previous versions, and with the S1iD Technology, it needs ABSOLUTELY ZERO BREAK-IN! With a tacky synthetic grip, a 7/8 inch handle, the LXT PLUS will provide players with absolute control and confidence at the plate. Louisville Slugger: Passion In Your Heart; Power In Your Hands! The LXT PLUS is approved by all major fastpitch softball organizations (ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA and ISF). This bat comes with a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty against breakage. Almost feels like cheating! BTrankina parent

Pros: We bought this bat to replace a CF7 Demarini that lost its pop after around 150 games. The Demarini was great when it was new, but with a few teammates loving the new Louisville bats we switched over. My daughter loves this bat and really feels comfortable with it. She broke it in with a few buckets of balls and a couple of sessions in the cage. The bat is pretty hot initially, but I do think it got better after 50 hits or so. Our team has pretty much switched over to Xeno's and LXT's and their hitting has really taken off the past two tournaments. I have read a ton of these reviews and was skeptical that this bat could be that much better than some of the other big name bats out there, but this really does seem to be better than the rest. We also love the sound the bat makes!

Cons: None so far. One of my daughter's teammates had a 15 Xeno that developed some rattles. Louisville was great to deal with and sent her a new 16 Xeno. I hope we don't have any issues, but if we do Louisville support seems to be great!

Wow....this bat is unbelievable.... Mike McCoy parent

Pros: My daughter has both the LXT Plus and also the 2015 Mako. LXT has more pop and a much larger sweet spot. Very little hand vibration even when you miss hit the ball off the end or off the hands. By far the best bat my daughter has ever swung. It has so much pop! Louisville Slugger brought their A game with this bat!

Cons: The grip on the Mako seems better and more durable. That is my only gripe. Both bats are great but the LXT is unbelievable.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX161? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My daughter got to use one of these in a recent game and it made a huge difference for her. I've been debating buying this bat but yesterday I noticed at practice the outer layer of the barrel of the bat moves slightly relative to the inner part of the bat. I'm certainly not a bat expert but is that normal for this bat? If you hit it in your hand you can tell it sounds like two pieces are hitting each other. Thanks! Chris
There may be a defect in the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX161). If that is the case, we would recommend contacting Louisville Slugger directly. Their phone number is 1-800-282-2287.

Unfortunately, the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX161 is not made in a 34" 23 oz. The biggest size that they make in the -11 model is the 33" 22 oz.

My daughter is 13,5'5 165 she hits the ball hard and derp. She uses a borrowed cf8 32 22 oz -9.Want to go LS LXT, not sure if I should stay 32-23,-9 ,33-24,-9 or 33-23,-10 her father
I would recommend that your daughter swing the 33" 24 oz. If she is already accustomed to the drop 9 and she is a power hitter, I think she would benefit from swinging this size of bat.
Nick
My daughter is playing 12U. She is about 5 feet. What size and drop would you suggest. I am torn between the LXT and XENO. Which model is the better bat for her? zeek
For most 12 year olds, we are suggesting a fastpitch bat with a 31" length. As well, I would say that a bat with a -11 length-to-weight ratio is very popular among 12 year old players. Both this 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX161) and a XENO will be a great option of bat to consider for your daughter (both are offered in a -11 size as well). Both bats feature the same composite material and balanced feel, but they will differ in the technology included in their connection points. The connection point on the LXT offers technology that is specifically designed to limit the amount of vibration that reaches a players' hands on a miss-hit. The XENO does not feature that technology. If you want the most comfortable option, I would recommend the LXT.

Does this bat require a break-in? perry
While the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX161 should be ready to go out of the box, we would still recommend a brief break-in of roughly 50-100 swings.
Marcus
My daughter is a 13 years old that is 5'2" and weighs 120 lbs. Would you recommend a 33"/22oz bat so she doesnt outgrow it in a years time? PowerNet KS
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX161 in a 32 inch 21 ounce model. You could certainly go with a different length or weight if you are trying to get multiple seasons out of a bat but there is no guarantee she will be able to handle the longer or heavier bat the first year and the bat (with its potential replacement) would last for 2 years.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
