Great buy Zach player

Pros: Great out of the wrapper explosive feel, No vibration, and slightly top heavy but feels great for me. I am 5'5" 124 pounds and love the 32" -3 version. I would strongly recommend this bat to everyone it has a slightly more top heavy (like I said before) feel than the 916 which is more balanced but I like the feel of this one better plus it is $100 cheaper.

Cons: Nothing great buy!

Unreal Feeling Zill player

Pros: I am a senior in high school and I can't even begin to describe the feeling you get swinging this bat. It is unlike any other. The pop in this bat is crazy, it reminds me of the old composite bats. If you're on the fence about getting this bat, get it. You'll be very glad you did.

Pros: Right out of the wrapper the feel of this bat was amazing! I can't even begin to explain the pop this bat has. It is slightly top heavy to give you that extra boost of power. I highly recommend this bat to any highschooler.

Solid Bat Younghuss player

Pros: For all of you parents out there looking to buy your kid a bat, this is the one. 3 bills is a good price for aluminum bats these days and let me tell you why this bat is worth more than that. I am a senor in highschool and my cage had a radar system implemented into the back of the cage to read exit velocities when I hit. I usually sit around mid 80's. Last night, I grabbed this bat, and hit a line drive right back up the middle that read 90 mph. Buy this bad boy.

Cons: If you're a lefty, the grip will not last. Gave 4 stars for durabilty because the end cap becomes loose but does not affect the pop.

amazing Jackson player

Pros: This is the best bat I have ever used. My first day using this bat was spectacular and the second day was even better, and in the first game of the season I hit a moonshot over the left field fence. this is an amazing bat for anyone who wants contact and power.

Cons: occasionally the grip will start to unravel but other than that nothing is wrong.

Not a fan for left handers Steve Prichett parent

Pros: none that outweigh the cons

Cons: Louisville Slugger knows there is a problem with the way the grips are attached if you are left handed. The grips WILL come off within one or two uses. I spoke with Louisville Slugger just now and after describing the problem, they asked if my son was left-handed, which he is. Their solution is to send you a grip so you can regrip your $300 bat.

Rattles inside after four months. Cvargas parent

Pros: This bat was used by my 15yo for highschool ball. He likes the feel of it from the get go. Stated it has an end loaded feel. Exit speed off the bat was amazing. Unfortunatly we moved and can not find the receipt for an exchage, because it is a great bat.

Cons: After four months, we were able to hear a rattle inside as if a something broke and is floating around. Grip is a major issue for this bat. Grip easily ripped after little use.

Great bat but not very durable Colbe Eldridge player

Pros: The bat has great pop and is a little top heavy but it still does the job. I recommend this bat if you are a contact hitter or power hitter

Cons: The bat grip is unraveling and there is a broken piece inside of the bat and it gets annoying. the broken piece doesn't effect the bat but sometimes the umpire or the other team might think you put something in your bat. other than that the bat is great. (I've also only had the bat for almost 2 months)

716 select Jake player

Pros: This bat has a great feel, its doesnt sound like an alloy barrel that much which i like, when you hit one good it feels like you really crush it.

Cons: The grip will come off after about two uses due to the black piece near the knob that makes it slightly tapered. Just take the piece off or retape it better so it would stay on the taper. This wasn't really a big deal to me.

Pros: this bat has a great pop and feels mamxing with the swing. I'm 5'8" and weigh 150 and the 32-29 model of this bat fits my swing perfectly. It reduces vibration very well and despite what many reviews say the grip hed up very well and I probably average about 1000 swings a week.

Cons: I've had this bad for almost 2 years now and recently something has come loose in the barrel which can be annoying but it still works as good as new.

Pros: Very balanced, great for a base hitter. Bought if for my son who is a freshman in high school. He loves it and his hitting improved almost immediately. He says it is "balanced" and not too heavy in the end which makes it easier to swing. He is 5'8" and uses the 32"

33 1 player

Pros: I bought this bat about 3 months ago at an Academy Sports. I'm 14 years old, about 5'7" and around 120 pounds. I'm not tgat strong for how tall I am but I still manage to hit the ball to a 300 foot fence every couple hits. This bat is a little heavy for me since its an end-heavy bat and 33 inches but I swing it fine.

Cons: I think like 2 pieces came apart and rattle around in the bat, but that is a good thing for me because it seemed like that gave the bat a little more pop (or maybe its just me). By the way go ahead and buy and by another lizard grip for this bat because the factory one is loose and wrapped for lefties. It came off in about a month but otherwise this bat is amazing for players like me.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My 14 year old son is currently swinging a -5 Louisville Slugger SLO515 and loves it. He will need a BBCOR next season. He is a singles-contact hitter. Which Louisville Slugger BBCOR model would you recommend? zipthehusker
Given his style of hitting, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) may be a bit end-loaded and heavy for what you would want. I would advise sticking with the more balanced bats in the line like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163).
Patrick
Is this bat for a power hitter? dd baseball
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) features a slightly end loaded swing weight, which tends to be preferred by power hitters. It would be a good choice for a stronger player with faster bat speed.
Tessa
How similar is the feeling of this to the 2014 Raid? Will
Yes, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is going to feel the same as the 2014 Raid. The Select 716 is the model that ended up replacing the Raid.
John
What's the difference with this bat and the 916? eddie
The difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 is that the 715 is a two piece half and half design and the 916 is a two piece full composite model.
Cooper
What is different between this bat and the 2015 715 bat? Express
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is very similar in design and performance to the 2015 Louisville Slugger Select 715 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7153). The majority of the differences besides the different grip are cosmetic in nature.
Patrick
Is this bat a good bat for a power hitter? Big Ben
Yes, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) would be a great option for a power hitter. The Select 716 features a slightly end loaded swing weight which is generally preferred by power hitters.
John
Which bat has more pop: the Select 716 or the Prime 916? Which is more like the MAKO? kc baseball
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR (BBS7163) and the Prime 916 BBCOR will both have great pop. The Prime 916 will be the most similar to the MAKO due to them both being two-piece composite bats with a balanced swing weight.
Marcus
My son used a 2015 Louisville Slugger 715 -5 this past year and loved it. Now we need to go to BBCOR. Will the Louisville Slugger 716 swing similar or is it balanced differently? DD
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) will obviously have a slightly heavier swing weight than the -5 bat but the balance of them should be similar.
Patrick
How will this bat compare to the Easton Z-CORE Hybrid XL? PM12
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) will have a three-piece, hybrid design compared to the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH). The technology used for the connection piece to help give the bats balance and reduce vibrations will be slightly different as well in the two. With that being said, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) comes with a 30-day performance guarantee so you would have the ability to compare it to the Easton if that is what you are currently swinging or have used in the past.
Cameron
I am looking for a good bat to get for spring season baseball and I need a -3 33 inch 30 ounce. I have had good bats from Louisville and okay bats but I was wondering if I should get the Select 716, or the new Easton Z-CORE hybrid bat. I am looking for a bat with more pop, balance, and less vibration. _cr37
If you are wanting more balance from the bat, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) may not have as balanced of a feel as the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH). The performance or "pop" and sting prevention would be extremely similar.
Patrick
I have been swinging the Voodoo for years. Is the 716 similar? The Ken
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) has a similar style and feel to the Voodoo line of bats from DeMarini.
Patrick
I am looking to purchase a BBCOR bat and narrowed it down to the Louisville Slugger Select and the Rawlings Velo both 32 inch drop 3. My son is 5 foot 8 and weighs 120 pounds. I am looking for a quick swing, balanced bat. Which bat has a lower swing weight? MN Made
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will be more balanced and have a lighter swing than the slightly end-loaded 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163).
Patrick
What is the difference between the 516, 716, and 916 Louisville Sluggers? theeeguy
The main difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163, and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is going to be in the construction of the bat. The 516 is a one-piece alloy construction, the 716 is a three-piece, hybrid design, and the 916 is going to be a three-piece composite design.
John
Does this bat or the Voodoo Raw have more of a ping sound on contact? lochness monster
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) and the 2016 DeMarini Voodoo RAW BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVDC) will have similar sounds at impact. Both provide the "ping" sound associated with alloy barrel bats though at a lower pitch than some lighter swinging (less end-loaded) single-piece alloy models.
Patrick
Is this bat top heavy? joey h
Yes, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) has a slightly end loaded swing weight.
John
Does the bat require a break in period? Kenny Bats
No, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat BBS7163 will be game ready right out of the wrapper.
John
Which is better, the 716 or the 915? alex
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the Louisville Slugger Prime 915 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9153 are excellent, high quality baseball bats. It is hard to say which one is better because of the fact that they are quite different. The 716 is a three-piece hybrid design that features an alloy barrel and a composite handle while the 915 is a three-piece composite design.
John P
Can the 716 be used under 60 degrees? RB
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 can be used in weather under 60 degrees. Like all metal bats, alloy and composite material will hold up better in warmer weather but can certainly be used in less favorable conditions.
Cameron
Does the 716 feel like the 2015 MAKO? Nick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 will not feel like the 2015 Easton MAKO. The reason for this is the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 will be a hybrid design bat with an alloy barrel and composite handle (balanced swing weight) while the MAKO will feature a two-piece composite design (balance swing weight).
Cameron
I just got my 716 a month ago. I'm a power hitter that's 6'1 235 but for some reason inside my 716 it sounds like a ring moving around inside. Should I be worried? roscoe36
It is possible that a piece of the end cap has broken off resulting in the sound you're experiencing. This should have no effect on the bat's performance. You do have a full twelve month manufacturer's warranty if it were to become defective.
Angelique
I'm 5'10", a junior in high school, and weigh 200 pounds. What size bat should I get? nono
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 33" 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163.
John P.
What BBCOR bat would recommend for a 12 year old that is 4 foot 11 inches and 97 lbs? Eagle Eye
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend using a 29" 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163. Unfortunately, this model is not offered in that particular length. I have included a link below to the Omaha 516 as that is the only BBCOR baseball bat that we offer in a 29" length. http://www.justbats.com/product/2016-louisville-slugger-omaha-516-bbcor-baseball-bat--bbo5163/22656/
John P.
I'm 5'10" and 180 lbs. What bat size would u recommend? As well, I am wanting a lighter swinging bat. Will this option or the Prime 916 produce the same power with a lighter swing weight? PM21
Based upon your height and weight, we would recommend going with a 33" model of BBCOR baseball bat. If you were wanting to get the model that has the lighter swing feel, but is still able to produce power, I would recommend the Prime 916 over this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163). Many hitters find this Select 716 to feel slightly end-loaded, even though it is not listed as so by Louisville Slugger.
Ben
I am 5'9" 165 lbs. What size would you recommend? tyler5
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend that you swing a 33" bat.
Nick
I am deciding between the 5150 and this bat. What's better for a sophomore who mostly hits for contact, but also needs a bat that will put out consistent power? Matt
For a player that considers themselves more of a contact hitter, I think that this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) should be just fine for use. It will feature a little bit of an end-loaded swing weight, but since it sounds like you have some power, you should be able to handle the slight end-load well.
Ben
I am a 5'8" and 160 pound junior in high school and I'm more of a gap to gap hitter. Would this 716 or the Rawlings VELO be a better fit? Niz
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the Rawlings VELO are excellent, high-quality baseball bats and would be suitable for a gap to gap hitter. This 716 is a two-piece hybrid design while the VELO is a one-piece aluminum design if that helps with your decision at all.
John P.
I'm 5'3" and 135 pounds. I use the DeMarini Voodoo 2015 -3 right now looking to switch up. What BBCOR bat do you suggest? jack
If you like the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC and the end loaded swing weight, then I would recommend swinging the 2016 DeMarini Voodoo RAW BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC. This is going to be the newest version of that DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC. The 2016 version has been popular and we have received good feedback with that bat.
Nick
I am 6'3" and 212 lbs. Will this bat be balanced enough or is it very top heavy? bub
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 features a slightly end loaded swing weight because of its hybrid design. If you are looking for a balanced bat, then the Omaha 516 would be a better option for you. Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 34" model.
Jason
I'm 5'4" 130 lbs and I just made my JV baseball team as a freshman. I need a new bat and loved this one. I'm just not sure which length to get, the 32/29 or the 31/28. Jacob
For your height and weight we recommend a 31" 28 oz. bat.
Angelique
I'm 5'9'' and around 135 lbs. I have the 2013 Easton S1 Power Brigade BBCOR baseball bat and I'm looking for an upgrade. Do you think this is the right bat for me? jkau
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163. Now, the Easton S1 is a two-piece fully composite construction while this Select 716 is a two-piece hybrid design that will feature an alloy barrel and a composite handle. If that is what you're looking for then this would absolutely be an excellent choice.
John P.
Do you have to break this bat in? Big Izack
No, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 does not require any breaking in to be game ready.
Marcus
What is the difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger 716 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger 916? Are they both balanced? Jose
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid design bat (alloy barrel and composite handle) with a slight end-load. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 will be a three-piece, fully composite design with a balanced swing weight.
Cameron
Will the 2016 Louisville Slugger 716 BBCOR have the same end load feel as the Voodoo Overlord or XL1? Jose
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is going to feel less end loaded than those models. The end load is very very slight in the Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLO5150.
Nick
Is the balance of this bat similar to the old Z1000? Patrick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 will actually feature a slight end loaded swing weight.
John P.
Are there any differences between this bat and the 2015 715 other than the grip and look? Matt
There are no differences between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the Louisville Slugger Select 715 BBCOR Baseball Bat other than the updated cosmetics and the Lizard Skin Grip.
John P.
Do you think this bat is a better product than the 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack? olawn
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack are/were high performing bats. They are slightly different in construction though. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a hybrid design (composite handle with an alloy barrel) and will feature a slightly end-loaded swing weight. The LS Attack was a two-piece composite design with a balanced swing weight. The durability with the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 seems to be better than that of the LS Attack, so in that respect it will probably be a better bat to consider.
Cameron
What is the difference in performance between the 716 and the 916? Tom
The performance of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 are about the same. These bats differ in their construction as the Select 716 has an alloy barrel and the Prime 916 has a composite barrel.
Angelique
Is there a big difference in this model and last year's model. If so what are they? Blackhawk 35
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the Louisville Slugger Select 715 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7153 are essentially the same bat minus for the Lizard Skins Grip that the 2016 model will feature.
Cameron
I am a freshmen in high school that is 5'7" and 135 pounds. I am trying to decide what size to use and which bat. Daq
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163.
John P.
What is the difference between the 2016 Select and the 2015 Select? Dbibb
The only difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and the 2015 model is going to be the cosmetics and the fact that the 2016 model features Lizard Skin Grip which is said to provide extreme comfort and enhanced tackiness.
John P.
I am a sophomore at 6'2 180 lbs. What bat and length do you recommend Parker
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend that you swing a 34" length.
Nick
First of all, I was looking for a bat with power but also a balanced swing to get my bat speed up. Which bat out of the 916, 716, and 516 would be best for me? I currently have the 915. Also I am an eighth grader and I am 5' 8" and 185 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? King Zach
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) or the Prime 916 would both be good options for you. Based on your height and weight I would suggest a 33" length bat.
Jake
What's more top heavy between a 2016 Rawlings VELO or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716? briv789
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 features a slight end load, so it will feel more top heavy. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is going to be extremely well balanced.
Nick
Which bat is more end loaded: the 716 or 2016 Voodoo? jakerichards
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 and Voodoo are considered end loaded bats, but most players feel that the Voodoo is more end loaded.
Jason
Owned the 716 Select 2 days and the grip tape won't stick. How do I stop this from happening again? nat
The grip tape on some bats will unravel after early use as these grips are put on with the right handed batter in mind. For left handed batters, one would need to grip the bat in reverse order. If the grip tape is coming off and one is a right handed batter, we would recommend purchasing an after market grip tape or using athletic tape and spiraling up and then back down the desired length on the handle.
Cameron
I have the Louisville Slugger Select 715. Is there a recommended temperature use? dylanbaseball01
Here at JustBats, we recommend that you do not use the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
John P.
I'm 13 years old, 5'10" and weigh about 150 pounds. I'm going into high school next year. What size bat would you recommend? Benny
I would recommend a 32" 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) based on your height and weight.
Jake
I have the 715 version of this and it's rattling and very worn out but still has pop. Do I need to replace it or will the rattling do anything? hs baseball
We would not suggest replacing the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 if you feel the bat is still performing well. Most of the time the rattling noise that is happening in the barrel is a result of the adhesive glue that is applied to the end cap. When this adhesive is over-applied, it will dry and hang from the end cap (think of an icicle hanging from the rooftop). Over use, the excess adhesive will break loose into the barrel. While it may sound annoying, it does not affect the overall performance of the bat.
Cameron
I'm picky about the sound of my bats so does this bat have more a ding sound like aluminum or more of a pop sound like composite? devinG
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid design that features an aluminum barrel so it will offer more of a 'ping' sound.
John P.
Will the Louisville Slugger Select 716 or Easton Z-CORE Hybrid XL perform better for a power hitter? Cody
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is built in the same hybrid style (alloy barrel and composite handle) as the Z-CORE Hybrid XL. However, I would say that the 716 won't be quite as end-loaded in its swing feel as the Z-CORE Hybrid XL. But in regard to performance reviews, there are many more reviews that feature positive remarks on this 716 when compared to the Z-CORE Hybrid XL. Therefore, I would recommend this Select 716 over the Z-CORE.
Ben
Does the grip unravel for righties too or mainly just lefties? kevin
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is wrapped for right handed hitters in mind so generally only lefties run into this problem.
Jake
Does this bat have too much flex in the barrel when you connect with the ball? Anthony
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is going to be a two-piece hybrid bat meaning it has an alloy barrel with a composite handle. Two-piece bats do have some degree of flex that generally comes into play as the player is swinging through the zone and usually is not an issue when making contact with the ball.
Jake
Which bat is more popular between the 516, 716, and 916? kevin
I would say that all three models are extremely popular. As to which one is more popular, that will be subjective and vary depending upon who you ask. The 516 is a one-piece alloy design, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid design, and the Prime 916 is a three-piece composite design.
John P.
I am 14 years old. I am a contact hitter usually but I can hit for power as well. Where is most of the weight distributed on this bat? Would it be good for a hitter like me? Landon
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 would be a great bat for you. This bat will feature a slight end load, so it would be beneficial for someone who hits for contact and power.
Nick
I just got this bat today and it already sounds like there is a rock in it. I hit about 100 balls with it. Is this a normal thing? landoe25
It is not uncommon to experience the sound of pebbles or grains of sand type sound in metal bats today. This is typically caused due to an excess of adhesive product that is applied to the end caps of bats during the manufacturing process. As this adhesive dries it is much like an icicle hanging from the roof of the house. As the ice melts it eventually breaks and falls. With the adhesive glue it is the same thing; as the bat starts to come in contact with baseballs the glue will break apart and lodge in the barrel. It does not affect the performance of the bat but will give you a unique sound during swings.
Cameron
My son is almost 6' tall and is continuing to grow. He is really thin, but is very strong and swings hard for power. I am trying to determine which of the bats is best for him: this 716 (32 inch) or the 916 (32 inch)? Goot
Both this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) and the Prime 916 could be used by a power hitter. The decision will come down to what style of build your player prefers in a baseball bat. This 716 will have a hybrid build (alloy barrel and composite handle) and some will even say it features a slight end-load. The Prime 916 will be a two-piece, all-composite bat with a balanced swing weight. Between these two styles, your player would need to make a determination of the style he likes the most.
Ben
I'm 5 foot 10 and weigh 170 lbs. I hit for power but rarely strikeout. I currently use a 32 inch 2014 XL1 which, as you may know, is end-loaded. What bat would you recommend for varsity next spring? Going to be hitting either 2nd or 5th. 2016 Rawlings TRIO or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716? And what size bat would you recommend? The Future
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend going with a 32 inch 29 ounce model. Both the Rawlings TRIO and the LS Select 716 would be good bats to consider for a power hitter. If you prefer the end-loaded feel then the LS Select 716 would be of similar weight design. Both of these bats will feature alloy barrels which will be different from the composite you are use to swinging with the Easton XL1. With the balanced swing weight of the Rawlings TRIO, it may not be a bad idea to go to a 33 inch 30 ounce bat.
Cameron
Is it a good bat for a contact/power hitter? And will it feel at all similar to the 2014 XL1? The Future
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid design with a slightly end-loaded swing weight. This bat will feel different when compared to the Easton XL1 which was a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight.
Cameron
Is there a break in period for the 716 before you start to get good pop? big daddy
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 has an aluminum barrel and it does not require any break-in. It is hot right out of the wrapper.
Jason
Will the Select 716 dent? I am a power hitter, should I get a Select 716 or a Prime 916. Brian
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 has an aluminum barrel so it is possible that it will dent after extensive use, when used on a pitching machine, or when used in cold weather under 55 degrees. Typically power hitters prefer an end-loaded swing weight like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163, however the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is suitable for any type of hitter.
Angelique
What type of hitter do you recommend this bat for? P24
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 has a slightly end loaded swing weight and it is typically best for a power hitter.
Jason
When will there be a re-stock on sizes for this bat? jase
Currently, we do not have plans to re-stock this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) in any sizes once we sell out. The reason is because Louisville Slugger has shifted their focus to their 2017 models and do not have any extra 2016 Select 716 models for us to put in our inventory.
Ben
I am 5'9"- 5'10" and around 190 lbs going into my junior year. Can I use the 34-31? jerred willis
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163. If you are comfortable with your current bat speed and think you can handle the bigger size, then you can certainly bump up to the 34".
Jason
I just purchased this bat. Is the 1 year warranty still good on it? jay
Yes, this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) still features a full 12 month manufacturer's warranty period on it through the Louisville Slugger even though Louisville Slugger has released their 2017 line of bats already.
Ben
Will there be a 2017 model of this bat? Derek Best
Louisville Slugger will not be making a new 2017 continuation model of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163).
Ben
I am having trouble deciding whether I want the Mizuno MAXCOR, the MAKO TORQ, or this bat. I have a few others in mind too but which would you recommend for a guy who hits for contact and a little bit of power? kb
For a player that is more of a contact hitter a balanced bat, whether it be one-piece or two-piece/alloy or composite, would be the most beneficial. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 will feature a slightly end-loaded swing weight while the MAXCOR and MAKO TORQ will have a more balanced swing weight feel. Both the 716 and MAXCOR feature a 30 day guarantee from the manufacturer which allows a customer to try the bat out and if they are not satisfied within 30 days they can send it back for an exchange or refund of their purchase price. All three bats would thus be good options to consider for a contact hitter and it would really come down to which bat ultimately felt better in your hands.
Cameron
I am a 6'2" 200 pound sophomore! I have swung the Louisville 517 and loved it! I hate top heavy/heavy feeling bats, for instance the Rawlings 2015 5150 (I had that bat didn't like it at all). So my question is this one is cheaper, so I thought about getting this instead but does it have the same feeling as the 517 when it comes to balance and pop? What are the differences between them? wjbaseball13
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid design featuring an alloy barrel with a composite handle. This bat will feature more of an end-loaded swing weight design when compared to the LS Omaha series. The pop will be similar between the two bats though.
Cameron
What other BBCOR bats are similar to this model? JP
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVBC) and the 2016 Mizuno Generation BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16GEN) are going to be pretty similar to this 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163).

The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is a two-piece, fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight design.
Cameron
What happens if the connection rubber piece came off of my 716? What bat will they send you? I can't find another 716 33/30. clay
If the rubber piece is no longer on the bat, and the bat is still under warranty and hasn't been sent in previously for warranty replacement, then the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 would be eligible for replacement through Louisville Slugger. The bat they would send you is typically the same bat or the most comparable model. Since they did not make this bat in the 2017 lineup it would be tough to say from our end the model sent to you but one would figure it to be the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Cameron
I am 6 foot 163 pounds entering into the middle of my freshman year. I am more of a power hitter and would like to know if this bat would be a good fit for me. nick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 is a two-piece hybrid model with a slightly end-loaded swing weight featuring an alloy barrel and composite handle. The slight end-load makes this bat a great option to consider for a power type hitter.
Cameron
What do I do if the grip on my bat is starting to peel? nick
If the grip on your 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBS7163) is coming loose, I would recommend removing it from the bat and replacing it with a new grip. The grip will not be covered under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty period from Louisville Slugger.
Ben

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
