Description

For the past several years, the CF4 has dominated discussions about the hottest bats on the market. This year, DeMarini raises the stakes by introducing a completely revamped successor, aptly named the CF5. The CF5 is built on the principle of geometric perfection. DeMarini has unveiled a new composite material, called TR3 Strut Composite, that imitates the structure of crystals which are one of the strongest and most stable compounds on Earth. The triangle formation inside the barrel provides a fixed ratio of sides and angles so it's strong, stable and predictable - without any unnecessary weight! The molecular structure of the TR3 Strut handle is designed to efficiently transition power from the hands to the barrel to give players balance and consistency with every swing. This two-piece design is engineered durable with a very high strength to weight ratio, and light enough to be worthy of Doublewall duty. A bat like this can't be plugged with any average end cap, so DeMarini engineered the new Geo Endcap to meet its needs. The Geo Endcap is full of load-balancing triangles and is designed to maintain the stiffness of the barrel while dampening vibration to give hitters an amazing feel, shot after shot! The CF5 also features Half and Half Technology that redistributes weight to give the bat optimal balance. This gives younger players the ability to swing faster with less effort; ultimately resulting in more power! DeMarini: Insane Dedication to Performance! The CF5 is approved for play in all major youth leagues. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Hands down an amazing bat. my team took batting practice with an omen, cf4 (original), cf4 st, and the cf5 and the cf5 just blew away all of the other bats

Cons: none

Pros: Bat is growing on my son. Was a little unsure at first but was throwing synthetic balls. Switched to real leather balls and they started flying off his new CF5. Our first composite bat, so can't compare it to any others, but it seems to have a lot of pop. You have to swing it right, though, if you want the ball to go. Feels great when he hits it on the screws. Swing it normal and let the bat work.

Cons: Sting ranges from very mild to nearly painful on mishits.

Pros: OUTSTANDING bat! Large barrel (sweet spot), good balance, and GREAT pop. Very forgiving on off-center hits and amazing "wow" factor when hitting it on the screws. This bat is for better hitters and NOT for the "average" Little Leaguer. A strong aggressive hitter with a powerful swing (base hits or extra bases) will really like this bat. Sounds like wood rather than composite. Great job DeMarini!

Cons: None!

Pros: Really great balance and pop! Like the grip, and it has a really cool sound! Think it's going to be REALLY durable.

Cons: Takes a LONG time to break in. Don't give up on this baby right away because it doesn't have incredible pop out of the wrapper. This is high quality composite used on this bat, so give it plenty of time to open up. You won't regret it!!!

Cons: when u hit it on the handle it feels like you broke your wrist! it not better than the cf4

Pros: If you hit the sweetspot, you won't feel a thing and it will go far, only very little swing.

Cons: cf4 is much better, hurts a lot if you miss the sweetspot, less pop than the cf4 or cf3

Pros: Good bat with nice pop out of the wrapper. Some of the bigger kids on the team have had great at bats with it.

Cons: This bat is heavier or feels heavier than it is. We ordered a 28/18 and it swings like a 28/19 or 28/20. It is to heavy for my son so we had to get a diffrent bat.

BaseBall Dad

Pros: To start were talking about old 8 and 9 year old kids swinging this bat. It is unbelievable straight out of the wrapper. 2 kids have the CF4's and didn't pick their bats up during hitting practice. The sure amount of force/speed that balls come of this bat is a little scary. Once this bat is broken in I expect going back to back county champions want be hard.

Cons: I just recently purchased a CF5 31/20 for my child. Being a QA Manager I have access to numerous analytical balances. Once I weighted this Demerini it was a full 2 ounces over. I placed a call to customer service and had a new replacement bat lying on my front porch less than 24hrs after placing the call, that's less than 2 grams off the 20oz's. It can't get any better than that. Thanks, Thomasville, NC

Pros: After breaking in this bat, I'll agree with another review. The speed the ball comes off this bat is scary good! I'll also agree with other reviews that it takes a long time to break in. May not impress at first but this bat hits crushing bombs if you stay with it.

Cons: Better hit it on the screws if you don't want negative, stinging feedback.

Bat Expert

Pros: This bat is very good, high quality composite! Is it better than the CF4? No, but very close. The pop of the bat is incredible, if you hit an upper cut it WILL go far in the out field, a line drive swing for a big kid will most of the time go over on a say 200 ft. field. Get this bat it is deffinetly worth the money. If you are a 8/9 yr old this bat is not for you, this bat takes muscle.

Cons: If you are used to swinging a 17/18 ounce bat it takes time to get used to. Takes a long time to break in but it is better the most bats from the start.

Pros: Outstanding bat! This bat is not for everyone, but if you're a quality hitter who's got the muscle to swing it, you will love it!! Balance is more toward the middle, barrel is huge, sweet spot is generouse. Absolutely AMAZING pop when hit on the screws. Ball flys off this bat. Recommend demoing this bat before buying to see if it is for you. The kind of bat a 3-5 hitter in the line-up would love

Pros: Bought it for my son last fall & not quite broken in, but you can tell it's getting there. Bat has great balance & feel; my son's a good hitter & doesn't like the big barrel's; balls jump off of this bat. Love the Demarini line (moved up from the Black Voodoo to the CF5.)

Cons: Like any composite bat, the CF5 has to be broken in. Anybody that says this bat lacks pop doesn't know how to break-in composites.

Pros: I have to believe that all the negative reviews are from folks that unwrapped the bat, hit a few balls, didn't like it, returned it, and then bashed it on the internet. We don't have any experience with a CF4, but if it's any better than the CF5 I would have to see it to believe it. The pop this bat has after broken in is unbelievable. I don't think anybody would hit check-swing homers with the CF5, but a proper swing on a good pitch equals a crushed ball.

Cons: Takes a very long time to break it, but my son doesn't complain about hitting baseballs. Now he sees it was worth it.

Pros: WOW factor styling and loaded with unlimited power. The advanced larger sized youths (12 and higher) will be able to slam homers all day long.

Cons: The unlimited power not only comes from the technology but the weight. My 11 yr old uses a 31/19 hybrid and has many homers under his belt. He just purchased the CF5 in the 31/20 size. Now he has many strikeouts under his belt. The bat is listed as 20 ounces but really weighs 22.6 ounces. HUGE jump up for someone using a 19 ounce bat. I called DeMarini and they said the bat is weighed before stickers, paint and knob. They act like a listed 20 ounce bat weighing an extra 2.6 ounces wasn't a big deal. Heard about this issue before...should have paid more attention to that detail and not its awesome power.

Pros: The end weighting of the bat does provide good power.

Cons: Purchased 31/18. The weight is definitely an issue. My son complained that it was heavy and by looking at his swing it looked off. I also had the bat weighed with a calibrated scale and it came in at 22.1 ounces. Trying to get in touch with DeMarini. Son was swinging an 18 ounce and going to a 22 ounce is a 22% increase which is substantial and the fact that it is not monitored in unacceptable. I'll update this post after contacting DeMarini.

Pros: Pretty

Cons: No pop, heard it takes a while to break in but i've had the bat for months now, played in numerous games and tournaments and there is no change, solid contacts results only into a routine fly ball or ground out, was hoping it'd be more like the cf4 but i beg to differ.

Coach Bob

Pros: Like I said before, the bat does perform well.

Cons: Left a message with DeMarini Customer Service and they called me back the same day. They said their bat weights are based on the swing weight and not the measured weight. I had to push for them to understand that this was an issue many consumers are not aware of and that they should make that point clear. They said a 22.1 oz. bat should feel like a 20 oz. bat when swinging. In theory that sounds good but wasn't true. They offered to replace the bat but that would qualify as our 1 time replacement under the warranty. I asked for a 30/19 in place of the originally purchased 31/20 since it was a Christmas gift and my son hasn't put on the height I expected so the 30 in. length is fine. I've always bought and used Easton bats and this being my first experience with DeMarini I doubt we'll buy another. I've had trouble with an Easton bat once and Easton bent over backwards to fix the issue.

Pros: good graphics, nice weight ratio, well balanced.

Cons: HOWEVER, it does not have nearly as mch pop as the CF4, it takes a very, very, long time to break in properly, and the sweet spot is very small. My 11-ys old, who has many out of the parks under his belt, never hit one with this bat in almost a year of use. Sometimes he would hit it so hard you'd swear it was gone- and then it'd barely get out of the infield. With both the Vendetta and the Combat B4, he's able to consistantly hit them out. Overall, the CF5 is a very disappointing bat.

Cons: There is too much weight in the barrel and has much less pop than expected. The Xl1 is so much better in my opinion. When I thought I hit it good it wouldn't go anywhere.

Pros: If your complaining of the weight CHILL OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you use a batting weight or two heavy bats on deck it will be fine. I use a 29 oz. wood bat on deck with two batting weights and this bat feels fine. Focus on the amazing pop, awesome balance, and there is no sting. NOW STOP COMPLAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Worried that the 31/20 would be to heavy (4'9 75lb) especially since its more end loaded. We're still breaking it in with light toss ups and she hit the baseball over the roof. She loves the weight, feel, and looks of this bat. If your child is serious about ball, I'm now convinced more end loaded is the way to go. Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini CF5 Youth Baseball Bat: DXCFL? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What does the -11 mean? They never had that when I played baseball. Rickdogg
The -11 is the length-to-weight ratio. You use the length to weight ratio to find the weight of the bat. For example, if you have a -11 oz. bat, you subtract 11 ounces from the length of the bat. A 30" bat - 11 ounces will weigh 19 ounces. The higher the length-to-weight ratio, the lighter the bat.
Brett
Is it a full composite bat? ram attack
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is a two-piece fully composite design.
JH
Is it end loaded? pilotls10
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is made to be a well balanced bat. Some reviews do say that the bat has a slight end loaded feel. If it does have that feel to some, it is very minimal.
Brett
Would a CF5 29/18 be good for a 10 to be 11 year old? Answer back. ryanbaseball6
A lot of it depends on his height, weight, bat speed, and the size bat he is currently using. On average, 10 and 11 year olds will use a bat between 18 and 20 ounces in weight and 28 and 30 inches in length. The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat falls within those recommendations.
JH
What is the BBCOR rating on CF5 youth 29/18? randy
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat does not have a BBCOR rating. Only -3 adult bats will have a BBCOR rating. To find BBCOR bats, please click on the Adult Bats link on our website.
Brett

The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat does not come in any other colors. The only color that the CF5 is available in is showed on our website.
Brett
Does the CF5 have more pop then the CF4ST? redsoxfan2854

Mark
What size would you recommend for a 4' 10" 78 pound 10 year old turning 11? thomas25368237
Based on his height and weight, a 30 inch bat would be recommended. The weight really depends on how strong he his and what size bat he is currently using or used last year. A 30 inch bat between 18 and 20 ounces would be avearge for a 10 or 11 year old.
Josh
Would a 31" 20 CF5 be too big for a 10 year old turning 11 who has good bat speed? Thomas746456
It really depends more on the players height, but average for that age is around a 30 inch bat. Please feel free to use out Bat Coach tool at the top of our website to help determine the right size for your ten year old.
Mark
What is the difference between the CF4ST and the CF5 Youth bat? bob
The difference is the composite material the bats are made with. The new DeMarini CF5 is made with TR3 Strut Composite designed to be stronger and just as high performing as the composite used in the CF4. So far it has lived up to the hype.
Brett
My son will be 10 next month, he is 4' 7" and weighs 65 lbs. He currently uses a composite handle alloy barrel that is a 29 inch 17 oz. Bat. I feel like he is ready for a longer bat just not sure if jumping 2 oz. To a 30 inch 19 oz. is what he needs. What are your thoughts 29 inch 18 oz or 30 inch 19 oz? Big T
Moving up 2 oz will slow down the swing speed just a bit but will be something he can grow into. I like the 30/19 in the DeMarini CF5. The CF5 has a very large sweet spot and very good pop.
Kris
Is this bat better than other bats like does it have more pop? trip
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is one of the hottest youth bats and it has a lot of pop.
Tom
Explain the breaking in period and how long until it looses it's pop? Brian
The initial break-in will take about 200 swings. This can be done by soft toss or off the tee at half power. After that, the bat will continue to slowly loosen up even more. You will be able to get at least a good season out of the bat and hopefully two seasons if the bat is taken care of.
Mark
Will I be able to use this bat in USSSA in 2012? coop
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat does have USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp on the barrel of the bat. You will be able to use this bat if you are allowed to use 2 1/4" composite barrels.
Sean
Do you have to break it in? If so, how? just cf5
Similar to most composite barrel bats, to get the best performance you will want to take the DeMarini CF5 through a break-in period. The best way to break-in a composite barrel bat is to take about 150 to 200 swings off of a tee or soft toss while rotating the bat a quarter of an inch each swing.
gamer
Is the big barrel version of this bat approved for USSSA 1.15 BPF? dom
Yes, the big barrel DeMarini CF5 is USSSA approved and has the required stamp. The Youth Big Barrel DeMarini CF5's can be seen at http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth%20big%20barrel/?s=cf5

Dose the weather have a factor we live in northeast colder here in april. Bobby C
Yes, the weather is a factor with all non-wood bats. We advise to not use any non-wood bat when the temperature is less than 55 degrees. It is also advised to avoid storing the bats in temperatures less than 65 degrees.
K.B.
Is this bat better than the 5150 2 1/4" youth bat and if it is, is it better than the Easton S1? ethan
The DeMarini CF5 is a different construction than the Rawlings 5150. The 5150 is a one-piece bat and is going to be a stiffer model and preferred more by power hitters. The CF5 and the Easton S1 are very comparable bats as they are both two-piece fully composite designs. I wouldn't say one of the bats is better than the other, rather they are all great bats, it just comes down to personal preference.
K.B.
Will it be approved for use in USSSA in 2012? bill
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is legal for USSSA play as it features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp.
Kara
Is this bat a BBCOR bat? I am told this year 2012 Little League is only allowing BBCOR. coach D
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth model is not a BBCOR bat. All BBCOR bats are adult models and are a drop 3 ounce bat. BBCOR bats are only required in Little League play at the Senior League and Big League levels. BBCOR bats are also required in Junior League if that bat has a composite barrel.
Kara
Is it legal in Cal Ripken? GATOR
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is legal for play in Cal Ripken as it features a 2 1/4" barrel diameter and also meets the BPF 1.15 standard.
Todd
What is the BPF? Is the BPF marked on the bat? Christine
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat has a BPF of 1.15. It features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp on the tapering of the barrel. BPF is a measurement that many governing bodies use and it stands for bat performance factor.

Sean

The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth model does not come in a -11, but the DeMarini CF5 does come in the 2 5/8" barrel with a -10 oz. length to weight ratio. It would be a 31" 20 oz. bat. http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-demarini-cf5--dxcfx-senior-league/13538/

KG
Would you recommend the CF5 or the Voodoo? guy
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is a two-piece fully composite design and tends to have more flex than the Voodoo. The DeMarini Voodoo is a two-piece hybrid design. The biggest difference between the two bats is the material that the barrels are made of.
KB
I was all set to get this bat for my son but then I read the complaints about the sting this bat can cause. My son has a Surge right now and does not have a issue. Is stinging more common on the CF5 than the Easton S1? NB
Any bat can be prone to stinging and is not specific to the DeMarini CF5. The Easton S1 is a newer model, so we have not received as much feedback regarding sting. The CF5 and the S1 are two-piece designs, so they will have less sting than many one-piece designs.
Kara
My son is 12, 4'11" 85# and from what I have been reading is you have to be a stronger kid to use this bat. Is that true? Would the S1 be a better option since people say it is lighter? bb
The DeMarini CF5 is still going to provide enough flex for someone who isn't as strong and will have a well balanced feel like the Easton S1.
KB
It says this bat is end loaded. Is that good for a 12 year old 85# or is the S1 better for him since it sounds like it is more balanced? He is not a power hitter and trying to get more distance/pop. J
The DeMarini CF5 and the Easton S1 are very comparable bats with the major difference being the brand of the manufacturer. The CF5 and the S1 are both well balanced, high performing bats.
KB
Will this bat sting more than the S1? b
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat and the Easton S1 are two-piece composite bats that generally absorb the same amount of sting. If shock absorption is what you are looking for, either one of these bats would be a good pick.
Shelbe
Do you know the new rules for 12 and under Babe Ruth and is this bat approved for that? tdp
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat is approved for 2012 because it has the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp on the barrel as required by Babe Ruth.
KB
Is this bat approved for Cal Ripken league? I see where the -12 is, but the -11 is not listed as of 2-17-12 Robert
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat will be approved for Cal Ripken Leagues. The DeMarini CF5 has the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp on the barrel which is needed for your league.
Kris
My son loves his CF5 and played in tournament ball. My question is that my son and his friends were playing strike out and now the bat has deep nicks all around the barrel like they may have been hitting rocks. Will this affect the bats performance? Max. V
It is hard to say without actually seeing the bat. A few scratches or nicks on the barrel souldn't affect it's overall performance.

My son is 5'3" and 98 lbs. Is the 31" or 32" recommended? He used a 31 inch bat last season, but he seems to be growing rapidly. Lynchpad
Based on your son's height and weight, the suggested size is 31 inches. If you think he will feel comfortable swinging a bigger size, I say go for it. Our bats do come with a free return label, so if you would like to order both sizes so he can get a feel for each, you are more than welcome to send one back after deciding which one fits him best. Just make sure you don't take the wrapper off and make sure that you don't use the bat.

Do you guys have a 30 inch 18 oz DeMarini CF5 youth bat -13? Bobby
The Demarini CF5 youth model is only available in a -11 oz. drop. The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth model is available in a 30" 19 ounce.
John
Would you recommend this Demarini CF5 or Marrucci Black and why? Ruben
Both bats are great choices. The main difference between the two is the DeMarini CF5 has a composite barrel and will require a break-in period. The CF5 will get better the more you use it though. The Marucci Black has an alloy barrel and will be hot right out of the wrapper. The composite barrel of the CF5 might create more pop due to the trampoline effect this material makes, but the Marucci Black has a lot of pop as well. You really can't go wrong with either bat!
Jennifer
Will this bat be legal in 2013? Mojo
As of 04/25/2012, the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat will be legal in 2013. The DeMarini CF5 has the new USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp, but even USSSA isn't requiring this stamp on their youth bats until 2014.

Yes, you will feel a difference. Even though 1 oz. does not seem like much, it is fairly significant in terms of baseball or softball bats. All of our bats do come with a free merchandise return label, and we accept returns for a refund or exchange on unused bats. So if you order a bat and feel it is too heavy or light, you can send it back to exchange for a different size as long as you have not used the bat.
Tom
Is the DXCFL legal for all-star play in Little League Major Baseball (11-12 year old)? On the approved bat list, they list a CFL12 but not a DXCFL? sammy

Tyler
What is the upgrade from 2012 CF5 to 2013 CF5, and which bat would you recommend between the 2013 & Easton XL1 for youth, overall performance? PK
The 2013 CF5 uses new composite technology designed for a lighter swing weight than the 2012 DeMarini CF5. The Easton XL1 is slightly end loaded and better for a power hitter. Both will be very high performing.
Kara
Does this bat need to be broken in? Maniac Alex
The DeMarini CF5 has a composite barrel and will require a break-in period. We recommend taking between 150-200 hits off of a tee or soft toss and start at about 40% power and gradually increase the closer you get to the 200 hit mark. Also, make sure to rotate the barrel about a quarter of an inch in between each hit and use the same balls you would normally use in a game.
Jennifer
Would you be able to make a CF5 31in 18oz? Because I have a bat that is a 32in 18oz. Trev

Kara

Jennifer
What is a safe temperature range to use this bat at? robin
The issue is not so much the type of bat as it is the ball. The temperature makes the ball more dense, which can damage the bat. We normally recommend not to use any type of bat under 55 degrees nor storing any bat in temperatures less than 65 degrees.
Kara
Is this a good bat for slow pitch softball? I have a 5' 90lb daughter what would be good? I also like the Vexxum and F5 fastpitch bat but is a fastpitch bat ok for slow pitch? Jenny
The DeMarini CF5 DXCFL is a youth baseball bat. It cannot be used in slow pitch softball. However, you can use a fastpitch bat in slow pitch softball.
Tyler
I am a eleven year old 5'2 106lb and currently using a 32 in Easton Rampage and looking into buying a CF5. Should I stay the same size or move down and will this bat improve the distance because I keep hitting the fence on a 315 foot fence. willie101
Based on your height and weight we recommend a 32" 2012 DeMarini CF5.
Kara
My 12 year old daughter is playing fast pitch softball. Is this bat ideal for girls fast pitch softball? Mike

I'm a contact hitter that is looking for a good bat that has good pop and lasts pretty long. I'm going between the CF5 and the Voodoo. Which suits me better? Earls597
Both the DeMarini CF5 and the DeMarini Voodoo are great bats that would be good options for a contact hitter. However, you might get a little more pop from the CF5 due to the fact that it has a composite barrel.
Jennifer
I just got this bat and wanna know how many hits it will take to break-in? stephenppp
We recommend taking between 150-200 hits either off a tee or soft toss starting at about 40% power and increasing the closer you get to the 200 hit mark. Also, rotate the barrel 1/4" after each swing and use the same balls you would normally use in a game. After that you should be good to go!

The 2012 DeMarini CF5 does require a break in period. We recommend taking 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about 1/4" every swing. Avoid using your composite bat in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls.
Kara

No, the 2012 DeMarini CF5 has a 2 1/4" barrel diameter.
Ryan
Is this bat half and half composite? geurink

Sean
How many hits does it take to break in the bat? baseball123

Derek
I know that it takes 100 - 200 swings to break in the Cf5, but how long does it usually take for the bat to completely break in (days, weeks, months, etc)? Baseballisawesome

The "12" and the "13" indicate the year of the model. The 2013 CF5 would be the CFL13: http://www.justbats.com/product/2013-demarini-cf5--dxcfl-youth/15462/

Yes, the DeMarini CF5 Youth was made in a 30" 19 oz.. However, this is a closeout model and we will not be getting any more in stock. The 2013 CF5 does have the 30" 19 oz.
Damon

Tom
My son has a 2012 CF5 31/20. I picked up his teammates 2013 CF5 31/20, and it's noticably lighter. I weighed my sons bat and it weighs approx. 22.25 oz. This is an over 10% difference from the advertised weight. Is this normal? Doug
This is fairly common. All manufacturers weigh their bats before the final stages of production which included, but is not limited to: applications of paint/decals, addition of the grip, addition of the endcap, and addition of the knob. The 2013 CF5 is made with a new composite material that gives it a lighter feel and swing weight.
Tyler

The 2012 DeMarini CF5 is not legal in Babe Ruth ages 13-15. All composite barrel bats must be BBOR certified for that division.

Tyler
Does this bat come in a 29" 17 oz? tp
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 is manufactured in a 29" 18 oz, but we are currently out of stock. We will not be getting any more in stock because it is an older model. We do have the 2013 available in that size.
Nick
Is it OK to do soft toss with wiffle balls during the winter or will it affect the performance/life of the bat? CarterCharles
Whiffle balls will not affect the performance of the bat. The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat will feature a composite barrel. These balls will not hurt that material. I would still stay away from from the batting cage balls (Yellow Dimples).
Brandon
What is the difference in terms of performance between this and the 2013 CF5. I've heard that this bat is more enloaded than the 2013. Is this true? batboyman

Tyler
My son is 5'2", about 95 lbs. He makes good contact but tends to have a slower swing. What length and weight would be best? CJ
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 31" 20 oz. model in the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat. This is a very balanced model and will be a good option for a player with average to below average swing speed.
Aubrey
My son is 12, about 4' 10" and 80 lbs. He has quick hands and a very fast swing, he switch hits, makes good contact usually. He has a 30" Omen but was using a friends 32" CF5 and wants one now, what size should I get for him? BAP
That is difficult for us to answer without knowing how well he swings each bat (strength, bat control, swing speed, etc.) If he has good swing speed and bat control with the 32" CF5 then a 32" model is recommended. If he has average or slightly below average swing speed and bat control with the 32" CF5 then I would recommend a 31" model. If he has well below average swing speed and bat control with the 32" CF5, then a 30" model is recommended.
Tyler
My son is turning 11 and is 5'2" about 125 lbs and I'm trying to decide between the 2012 cf5 or the easton xl1. Any thoughts? TD
This is a difficult question for us to answer as much of the decision comes down to the personal preference of the player. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Both are high end bats with great pop. The XL1 is going to be more endloaded than the CF5, making it a better choice for stronger hitters. The CF5 is more balanced making it a better choice for hitters with average strength.
Tyler
My son is 13-years-old and will be playing Dixie Youth baseball. Is this a legal bat for that league? Ada
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat will be approved for Dixie baseball. However, it will not be approved for high school play.
Robert
My son is playing travel ball and is 11 years old. Would this be light enough for him? Homer
The 31" 20 oz. 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth is going to be light enough for your 11 year old son.
Marcus
How long will this take to break in? Do you have any thoughts or techniques? BombaKing
We suggest 150 to 200 hits of soft-toss or a tee. Start at about 40% power and gradually increase as you get closer. Rotate the bat a quarter of an inch between each hit to ensure an even break-in. As well as always use real, leather baseballs.
Chad M.
Do you guys get new shipments of the 2012 models? My size is a 32 inch. Anon
No, we will not be getting anymore of the 2012 DeMarini CF5 Youth's in. It looks like we only have the 31" 20 oz. one's left.
Chad M.
My son is 12 in a few weeks. He weighs about 120 lbs. and is 5'2". He doesn't have amazing bat speed right now, but we are working on that . Would this bat or the Voodoo be better for him? mike
I would recommend going with the 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth bat since it is more balanced and evenly weighted than the DeMarini Voodoo.
Marcus
What age would this bat be good for? I have a 12 year old that weighs 90lbs. Rik
The 2012 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL Youth will be fine for ages 7 to 13. Your 12 year old would be just fine with this bat.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
