Pros: With all the new regulations on composite bats, we made the switch to the BG2. The Easton brand speaks for itself and is affordably priced at $199 for bats of this quality. As always, its not the bat that makes you a hitter, its the swing. Having a BG2 gives me confidence when I'm at the plate

Cons: None to speak of yet. Though I will miss that "composite pop" flying off my bat. I'll survive.

Pros: My son was using the previous version of the Rival from 2 years ago a -5 which is Vanadium alloy. A noticeable advantage, but now he has to use a -3. We bought this bat hoping for similar results as he is not a big kid. 1st at bat- double down the right field line. 2nd at bat- sharp single down the left field line. Smile on my son's face.....priceless

Cons: None yet. It's BBCOR so we can't expect the same results as the previous Vanadium clad monster.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton Rival BBCOR Baseball Bat: BG2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

This bat will be legal in the following years right. Gooey
Yes. It is BBCOR certified and will be legal for the foreseeable future.
JH
How does this bat comopare with the Easton Typhoon bbcor? Is there really much of a difference? baseball1014
The BBCOR Surge will have more pop than the BBCOR Typhoon. The Surge has been known to be one of the best aluminum BBCOR bats on the market. This bat also has great durability.
Brett
what would you say has the best durability, performance, and balance out of this bat, the rawlings 5150 bbca, and the 2011 demarini voodoo bbcor (white with red letters) ed
All 3 are very good bats. Overall, I would give the Rawlings BBCA the edge in performance. I really liked the feel and balance of the Voodoo (but so much of that comes down to personal preference). The Rival also performs very well, has good balance and has displayed very good durability (probably on par with the Rawlings 5150).
JH
Im trying to decide between this and the -3 omen. ive played with both before but they were -5 models. Im in the 8th grade the thing is that ive hard the omen is better and i think it performs better but its 2 times the price so im not sure. which one would you recommend. Im 5' 9'' and 125 lbs and im looking for a bat to last me about a year or two. Im asking for a bat this christmas so im not the one buying it. Thanks! Matt
The Omen has a call for price special,at the moment, that is kind of hard to beat! But the Rival is also a great bat.
baseball mom
what bat would you say is a better performance bat the rival bbcor or the serge bbcor rydog
They should be very similar in performance because they both use the same THT100 alloy.
Mark
How does this bat differ from the surge? ryan
The Rival is a stiffer, one-piece, all alloy bat. The Surge is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and composite handle that will have a little more flex to it.
John
How does this bat compare to the 5150 bbca. I am more of a contact hitter which one would you prefer. diamond11
They are going to be similar since they both are 1 piece all alloy bats.
queenie
I bought an Easton Rival in Nov 2010. Everything looks the same, except that it does not have the bbcor stamp. Is last years model BBCOR compliant? TJJ
All -3 bats will have to have a BBCOR stamp on them to be legal for use in 2012.
Kris
Is this bat legal for USSSA baseball and if so does it bear the USSSA stamp of approval? If not what are other similar bats at a -3 or a -5. cljones
All BBCOR are USSSA legal.
lkh
I'm also looking at Marucci Cat 5, is there any real difference or are they both about the same? MTAA34
The Rival is made using Single System Technology (SST) that ensures a balanced feel and gives the hitter increased control. This bat features a stiff flex rating and low M.O.I. which means a lighter swing weight and faster swing speed. The Cat 5 is a great bat with awesome pop and has a nice antivibration technology that is nice on the hands.
lkh
i have a bbcor easton rival and along the edge of the cap, there is a paper/leather material sticking out. what is causing this and does this mean that this bat is bad or is going bad? connor
This sounds like a defect and needs to be sent back to Easton. You can contact them at 1-888-259-1297.
K.B.
My son played in a tourney this past weekend and the ump did not allow him to use the bat. He said that some BBBCOR bats were illegal and this was one of them. Is this a true statement? We live in Texas. vsquadcatcher
I'm not sure why the umpire would not allow this bat. This bat is BBCOR approved and is also an all alloy design. I would suggest checking with your local rep or coach to verify exactly what the rules state.
John
This is the first I or anyone else here has heard of this. I checked with our Easton rep and he believes this to be a false statement. Unless the governing body that hosted the tournament has a different set of rules, this bat is 100% legal.
Brett
I am a 5'9", 220lbs. and I am a freshman. Im trying to find a bbcor bat for high school would you recommend this bat or the easton S3? bigfoot
The S3 actually replaced the Rival, so either bat will be great.
Kara
My coaches consider me a "power hitter" and I've been using a -5 demarini voodoo. Which bat should i get, the Rival or the Surge? MikeDaBest1000
Generally, power hitters prefer one piece bats. The Rival is a one piece.
LKH
Will the Rival perform as well as the new BBCOR Surge? Hunter D.
It will have a different feel since the Surge is a 2 piece and the Rival is a 2 piece.
Linda
IS this bat good for contact hitters ? Nick
I've heard a few customers say that the Rival feels a little end-loaded. I think it is pretty balanced and would be a good option for any type of hitter.
TJ
what is the difference between the new easton's BBCOR POWER BRIGRADE and the BBCOR RIVAL? Which one wloud you recommend? dave
The new Eastons are a little more durable and have been one of the best BBCOR bats. The new Eastons have great pop are very balanced and have a huge sweet spot.
KG
would this be a good cage bat chaz
No bats are meant to be used with the dimpled cage balls, they are very damaging to alloy bats like this one. But if this is not a bat you will be using in games, then yes, it would be.
Shelbe
Easton Rival BBCOR vs. Easton Reflex BBCOR. What is the differnce between the two? Which would you prefer? Is the Rival worth the price difference? Yanch
They have the same general construction, with the exception of alloy used. The Rival uses a higher grade alloy.
Shelbe
I have a son who is 6'2", weighs 175, and is looking for a -3 bat for 14U. I was looking at the Easton Rival, Easton Reflex, and Easton Omen. He's mostly a line drive hitter. Farmtucky
The Rival or Reflex would be the most balanced of the three and would be hot out of the wrapper. The omen will have break in period.
Shelbe
I've only had my bat for 2 months and after hitting one day a metal piece rattles inside. It still hits solid though. Is this a defect? marsh
A slight rattle in your bat may be no problem at all, however, you do have a one year manufacturers warranty that comes with the bat. If it is a problem that becomes significantly worse, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer and they can take care of it for you. The number for Easton is 1-888-259-1297.
John
I notice this is a 1 piece bat and the Surge is a 2 piece bat. What is the difference in the make of the bat? Is one recommended over the other? Hundy
The Surge is going to be a stiff flex so it will be similar to swinging a one piece design. The Surge since it has the connection piece will help reduce vibrations.
John
I'm a freshman this year more of a contact hitter. Which bat would you prefer the EASTON RIVAL, EASTON SURGE, EXO GRID, EASTON S3, or Marucci Cat 5? Also, which bat has less vibration? andy
Two piece bats are better suited for contact hitters so I would go with the Surge.
Kara
Does this bat sound like there is alot of pop in it? I like that sound? pikey
This is an aluminum bat, so it is going to have the traditional "ping" sound that aluminum bats typically have. If you click the speaker icon in the upper right hand corner of the big picture you can hear this bat hitting a ball to see if it is the sound you like.
Jennifer
I am more of a power hitter so which bat would best suit me Surge or Rival? catdaddy
One piece bats like the Rival are best suited for a power hitter.
KB
Would you recommend this bat for high school players like on Junior varsity? Ethan
I absolutely would. The Rival's a good bat at a great price.
Tyler
Does this bat have the BBCOR label on it? My league wants to see the label. AJ
This bat does feature the BBCOR label. It can be found on the barrel of the bat. There is a picture of that label in the middle section of pictures at the top of this page so you can see it on the bat yourself.
Jennifer
I just bought this bat a few weeks ago for high school and I'm wondering if they have made the 2k12 version yet. John
The BG2 is discontinued. The newest model is the Easton S3 BBCOR: BB11S3.
Kara
I am 14 years old, 185 pounds and I am fairly built. Is a 34/31 too big for me? Rivals11RM
Height would have to be taken into consideration on what length would be more suitable for you. At that weight, if your over 6' tall the 34" would probably be the right choice. Anything under that 6' mark, the 32" would most likely be a better fit.
Derek
It says that this is a two pack. Is there any way I can buy just one? Walle
This bat is sold by itself and in bat packs. The bats that are sold with more than one bat will specify that it is a bat back. If it does not specify that is it a bat pack, then you will only get one bat. You can find this bat sold by itself here: http://www.justbats.com/product/easton-rival-bbcor--bg2-adult/13061/
Jennifer
I'm 6feet 180lbs, what size of bat do you recomend? mac
Based on your height and weight, a 33 inch 30 ounce bat would be recommended.
Tyler
Is this bat approved by USSSA? jason
This bat is BBCOR certified, not USSSA. Only senior league and youth bats will typically have USSSA certification. Adult bats have different standards and have to meet different specifications.
Jennifer
Is this legal in Babe Ruth 13-15? justin
Yes. This bat is legal in the 13-15 year old division in Babe Ruth.
Tyler
If there is a piece rattling around inside the barrell, like some reviews say, can I get a refund on the bat? mac
The BG2 comes with a one year manufacture's warranty. If the bat becomes damaged it will be replaced by Easton.
KB
Is this bat approved for Little League Juniors division? J
This bat is absolutely legal for a Little League Juniors Division! Alloy bats can have any drop weight in this division, so this one is good to go!
Jennifer
My son is 10 and weights 80 pounds he picked this bat out because he wanted a big barrel. I think the weight is to heavy 28oz for him. Does it come smaller? Need help
The smallest size the BG2 comes in is a 31 inch 28 ounce model. This is an adult bat, and given that your son is only 10, you may have better luck looking in the Youth Big Barrel category.
Tyler
Is this bat legal for a middle school modified softball league? JMF
This is an adult baseball bat. I'm not exactly sure of your league's rules (as rules vary), but I would assume that this bat would be illegal in your league.
Tyler
im playing a travel ball leage this summer that is requesting us to use BBCOR bats. Would these be legal? Matt
Yes. The BG2 is a BBCOR certified bat. Any bat that says "BBCOR" in the product name will work for you.
Tyler
what does it mean by bat pack?Do you get two bats or one jarette
The bat packs come with two bats usually. However, some bat packs contain three or more bats.
Zach
Is this bat legal for highschool play? tee skeet
The Easton Rival BBCOR is legal for high school.
Kara
I am 13. I weigh 108 and am 5'4". Is a size 34" 31 oz. bat too big for me? Does the bat pack come in any other size? Jb
Based on your height and weight, a 31 inch model would be the best option. This bat pack is only available in the sizes listed on the website.
Tyler
I am 14 and weigh 140lbs and want to know how long this bat should be? ster
A lot depends on your height as well. I recommend giving our Bat Coach a shot... http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
is the easton rival legal for junior high the beast
Yes, since the Easton Rival is BBCOR certified it would be legal for Junior High play.
Ryan
What are the differences between the Easton S3 and the Easton Rival? Gusto
The Easton S3 replaced the Easton Rival. The Easton S3 will be slightly more balanced than the Easton Rival.
Kara
Is this bat top heavy? Brock
No the Easton Rival is a balanced bat.
Ryan
Will you be able to use it in college? David
Yes, the Easton Rival BBCOR is legal in college.
Kara
I am a big power hitter and was wondering what would be a better bat for power, this or the exogrid 2? ch
The Louisville Slugger Exogrid 2 will perform better than the Easton Rival BBCOR: BG2 Adult.
Zach
is this bat allowed in baberuth league ? lopez05
Yes. The Easton BG2 is approved for Babe Ruth baseball.
Tyler
What are closeout bats? ik
Closeout bats are our older model bats that we sell at a discounted price.
Nick K.
What is the newer model of this bat? 96
This particular model has been discontinued and replaced by the Easton S3 BBCOR and the Easton XL3 BBCOR.
Damon
Can you use this bat for 13 year old Babe Ruth? dobs22
The Easton Rival BBCOr is legal in 13 year old Babe Ruth.
Kara
Is the Rival more like the XL3 or S3? tyrone
The Easton Rival BBCOR is similar to the S3 because they are both balanced. The XL3 is an end loaded bat.
Kara
Is the Rival end loaded or balanced? bob
The Easton Rival BBCOR is a balanced bat.
Kara
Which bat would you recommend for a contant hitter? The Easton Rival or the Easton Reflex? Trevor
Both the Easton Rival and Easton reflex have a balanced swing weight for a contact hitter.
Damon
Which bat is better for a contact hitter the Easton Rival or the Easton Surge? Coltt
The Easton Surge is a a two-piece bat that will allow more flex for a contact hitter as opposed to the Rival that is a one-piece.
Damon
can you guys get me a 31 drop 3 in the rival and surge the 149.95 crk43
Unfortunately, the Rival and Surge are discontinued models and we will not be getting any additional sizes in stock.
Tyler
is this bat good for a power hitter. power
Yes, the Easton Rival BBCOR: BG2 Adult would work out great for a power hitter due to it's one piece design.
Zach
how many of these bats are left in stock easton
Currently we have 169 left in the 32" model, and 49 left in the 33" model. Here is the link to view more details on the Easton Rival BBCOR. http://www.justbats.com/product/easton-rival-bbcor--bg2-adult/13061/?pa_source=justbats&pa_campaign=was&pa_medium=badges&pa_content=easton-rival-bbcor--bg2-adult
Derek
Do you know what the differences are in the BBCOR standard vs USSSA BPF 1.15 other than one is for Senior league bats and below and BBCOR for adult bats? What are the stats on how much more or less restrictive on standard is from another. BatDad
The BBCOR standard is a much, much more detailed certification that encompasses a much wider variety of performance tests and standards than the BPF 1.15. It's hard to compare the two, as they both apply to different types of bats. However, the BBCOR standard is much more strict and these bats won't have the same pop as youth big barrel bats that are BPF 1.15.
Tyler
For better hitting, is a one-piece like this better or two-piece? Will there be a significant difference? John
There won't be any difference in performance between a one-piece bat or a two-piece bat. It has more to do with personal preference. Power type hitters tend to prefer one-piece bats and contact type hitters tend to prefer two-piece bats.

What Easton bat out now is most like this one? tnuof
The closest model out today from Easton, when compared to the Easton Rival BBCOR Baseball Bat: BG2, would be the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Speed BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZS. This bat would also feature the same one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight.
