Description

For the past few years, the H2 was Louisville Slugger's flagship composite/alloy hybrid design. This season, Louisville Slugger ups the ante with a new bat, new materials and performance that will leave you astonished! Building off the success of EXOGRID, Vertex Technology is the next step in optimizing the composite/alloy hybrid design. The Vertex design utilizes Louisville Slugger's LS-2X Composite which uses thinner high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers to create the optimal feeling handle. These thinner fibers allow for more layers, giving the Vertex added stiffness and durability. The handle of the Vertex is actually stiffer than the EXOGRID which allows more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and, ultimately, greater performance! The barrel of the Vertex is constructed using AC21 Scandium Alloy. Combined with composite materials, the AC21 Scandium Alloy ensures thinner walls with outstanding durability and unmatched performance. The Vertex has a synthetic cushioned grip on the 7/8 inch standard handle to give players an unbeatable feeling of confidence when they step up to the plate. With an extended 2 1/4 inch barrel, players can easily translate that confidence into multi home run games! Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The Vertex is approved for play in Little League, Dixie, Pony, Babe Ruth, AABC, and USSSA. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

funky bird

Pros: Phenomenal bat for the price! Very similar to the old H2, except I think this alloy/composite combo produces higher performance. The -13 drop allows my son to get the bat around quicker than ever before, and it is definitely showing up in his stats!

Cons: White grip. Don't know why they do that.

Pros: Very good bat. My son really likes how the ball jumps off the bat and doesn't sting as bad as other bats. Not going to give the normal tall tales that everyone does of how many HR's he hit when they got the bat but it's a solid bat

Cons: None so far and white grip is relatively clean.

Proud papa

Pros: My 8 year old is playing machine pitch. He was already a good hitter with his TPX Omaha SL84, but this bat took him to another level. He's hit 5 inside the park homers in 6 games. Great pop. Ball explodes off bat, even on less than perfect contact. Very pleased!

Cons: Can't really think of any.

Todd
2 questions will this bat be approved for little tarheel abd whats the difference between the vertex and the z1000 slugger's dad
Each league has different rules. Always check with a coach or league offical for bat rules. The Vertex has an alloy barral while the Z-1000 will have a composite barrel. Composite barrels require a break in period, alloy barrels will be game ready out of the wrapper.
Kris

You are correct. The Vertex will be very similar to the H2. The Vertex will have similar performance, balance and feel as the H2.

Both bats are going to be similar in performance. The S2 is going to have a quicker bat speed. For exact MOI's you can contact Easton and Louisville Slugger.

I purchased this bat in July 2011 as a new for 2012 bat is it supposed to be labeled BBCOR for 2012 play if so why wasn't it. hotshot
2 1/4" bats will not be BBCOR certified. BBCOR bats are -3 Adult bats only. Please check with your league or coach on the latest bat rules.
Kris
Does this bat come in a 2 5/8" youth big barrel. If not is there a catalog? bigdogg
The Vertex only comes in a 2 1/4" and a 2 3/4" barrel. We do not have a catalog as everything we have in stock will be listed online.
Kris
Does the Vertex have the USSSA emblem on the neck of the bat? Next year bats are illegal without that emblem in our league, so cannot buy a bat without the new USSSA emblem. ed
This bat does not have the new USSSA stamp. It still has the old stamp that just says "USSSA 1.15 BPF".
Jennifer
Does the bat need broken in & if so what is the best way? scout
The Vertex has an alloy barrel and won't require a full break-in period. Since it does have a composite handle, I would recommend about 50-100 hits off a batting tee. Be sure to rotate the bat a quarter of an inch between each hit.
Tyler
Is this bat balenced or end weighted? Coach Frank
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB12V Youth is a fairly balanced bat.
Zach

Tyler
Does Louisville Slugger make a -13 25/8 inch big barrel bat? Chris
Unfortunately, there are no -13 big barrel bats on the market. A -12 bat would be the closest option in a big barrel model. Take a look at the Louisville Triton SL12T and Louisville Z-1000 SL12Z.
Tyler
Does this bat get you better contact and power? Basestealer
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. It would be great for a contact hitter. If you are looking for more pop, I would go with a composite barrel.

My son currently uses a TPX Dynasty 30inches and 18oz bat, he is going to be 10 years old and I would like to get a 31 inch 18oz bat for him this year {1 inch longer} for better plate coverage. Why is a $199.99 going for $89 bucks? Anthony
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB12V is a 2012 closeout model that we received at a lower price from the manufacturer. Instead of keeping it at its original price, we decided to pass our savings on to our customers.
Tyler
How does this bat compare with the DeMarini Voodoo or the Easton S2 based on performance and size of sweet spot? It appears to be a great bat at a tremendous value. Brian
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB12V Youth bat, the 2013 DeMarini Voodoo: DXVDL Youth bat, and the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat are all two-piece hybrid designs. The following is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Aubrey
How does this bat compare to the Voodoo? Also my son is 10 weighs 85 pounds and is 58 inches tall. Would a 17 oz. bat be too light? Thanks Brian
The Voodoo will offer a little more flex than the Louisville Slugger YB12V which is a little stiffer in feel. The Voodoo will also be a little more endloaded where the Vertex is more balanced. In order to let you know if a 17 oz. model is too light, we would need to know the length and weight of his most recent bat as well as his strength and swing speed with that bat.
Tyler

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
