Description

New for The best new bat to hit the market last season is back with a new look and same game-changing performance! The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex is a true testament to Louisville Slugger's commitment to improving their bats to allow players hit to the best of their ability. The Vertex design utilizes Louisville Slugger's LS-2X Composite which uses thinner high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers to create the optimal feeling handle. These thinner fibers allow for more layers, giving the Vertex added stiffness and durability. The handle of the Vertex is actually stiffer than the EXOGRID which allows more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and, ultimately, greater performance! The barrel of the Vertex is constructed using AC21 Scandium Alloy. Combined with composite materials, the AC21 Scandium Alloy ensures thinner walls with outstanding durability and unmatched performance. The Vertex has a synthetic cushioned grip on the 7/8 inch standard handle to give players an unbeatable feeling of confidence when they step up to the plate. Louisville Slugger: Be the Best, or Swing the Rest! The Vertex is approved for play in Little League, Dixie, Pony, Babe Ruth, AABC, and features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Father of 7 year old

Pros: Look, this bat has something...call it pop, explosiveness, whatever you want. My son clearly hit the ball father and harder than he did with his Easton Convert 27/15. BP went far beyond expectations. The Convert is a great bat!

Cons: Louisville Slugger confirmed that there's no substantial difference between the 2013 & 2012. Only the graphics and the stamp - and some of the 2012's have the stamp.

baseball is my game!

Pros: Had a lot of pop when you hit it on the tiny sweet spot.

Cons: 4 dents after using it in a couple games. stings really bad if you don't hit it on the sweet spot. grip gets dirty quick. Going to send it in for a replacement.

great bat Adam spangle player

Pros: It has a real good pop. It has a real good handle and grip if you don't wear batting gloves. If you hit it on the letters it is going to go pretty far.

Cons: it is a little heavy. And it has little space for the sweat spot

Vertex pvnll player

Pros: A very well made half and half bat. Save money and buy this instead of the Attack, this feels much better, and is better for contact hitters also

Cons: The paint chips down by the handle revealing the composite part. If you don't hit the ball right on the barrel the bat tends not to perform well.

Does Vertex AC21 have composite fibers blended into the "metal" barrel? You can't see a break between the handle and barrel, it also sounds composite. Ddracer17
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB13V Youth is pure alloy in the barrel. It only has a composite handle.
Kara
Looking for a replacement to my sons Vertex 29" 16 oz. We had excellent performance and power from this bat. He's swung the S1, Attack -12, and S2. He hit the ball well with all, but didn't seem to get the same carry on the ball. Would this be the added bat speed with the -13 in the Vertex or is the handle stiffer in the Vertex than the others listed? I'm wondering if one of the Combat models might be a good alternative. Thanks. Sir_D
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB13V Youth will have the same stiffness as the Easton S2. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB13V is a balanced bat and would be a great choice for a player who needs to increase their bat speed.
Kara
My son is 7 years old and about 57 lbs. He will be playing travel kids pitch U9. What size and weight bat do you recommend? He is currently using a 27/15 bat. He gets around good at about 50 mph pitches in the machine, but he needs more power. Monks
The correct size for your son is going to be based on his height and weight. Since he needs more power, I would recommend moving up in weight to a -11 or -10. For more information on sizing please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Tori
Which has a longer barrel? This bat, or the Combat Portent -12? kaukris1
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex (YB13V) and the 2014 COMBAT Portent will have very similar sweet spots. The Vertex has a slightly longer barrel compared to the Portent.
John
Can this bat be used in cold weather, under 55 degrees? Cmike
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex: YB13V Youth bat would perform better in temperatures above 55 degrees. No matter the material (alloy or composite) the baseball becomes more dense in under 55 degrees and can damage the bat's barrel. That is why the manufacturer will not recommend use in such cold weather.
Brandon
Between the TPX Vertex and the Easton S3, which bat has a bigger sweet spot? Hay-Hay
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex (YB13V) and the 2014 Easton S3 (YB14S3) Youth models are almost identical in barrel size and length. Compared side to side they match up very similarly in the size of the sweet spot.
Patrick
Should my son rotate this bat every swing or can he treat it like a standard aluminum bat? tdub
The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex (YB13V) has an alloy barrel and doesn't have to be rotated every swing.
Kara
Looking for a bat for a younger kid that is a good line drive hitter but wants more power. He is 54 inches tall and 75 pounds. What louisville slugger bat and size would you recommend? jahornback11
With the measurements given we would recommend him using a 29 inch bat. The Louisville Slugger TPX Vertex (YB13V) would be a great bat. Another bat that will have better technology and more pop will be the 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack (YBAT14-RR). This bat will be a two piece full composite.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
