HOOTTTTTTT!!!!!! Jon Cadman player

Pros: oh man where do I even start! first this bat is hot right out of the wrapper ! still has that breaking glass sound, the ball jumps off..no FLYS off the bat, love the new paint scheme, at first it threw me off I thought it was going to be a glossy paint job but it has a rough feel almost like sand paint, I cant wait to really swing this bat on a filed not just in the cages and break it in more to really see what this bat can do !

Cons: The only con I have is the grip. the grip on my bat was loose when I twisted my hands the grip would move with it , I didn't like that so I jst bought new grip and now it feels great .

Perfect Bat Jon C. player

Pros: Great feel, great look. This is my first Lousiville Slugger and I fell in love with it as soon as I took a few cuts. I use to be partial to Demarini and Easton but the overall balance of the Z4000 is second to none.

Cons: I've never been a fan of any of the tape that comes with my bats, so I re-wrapped it with my own personal tape and style. I'm actually looking into patenting it. My grips gives the hitter more control and stability.

super hot! slowpitch fanatic player

Pros: This bat is nasty! Even ground balls hit with this bat seem to get by most of the time. Never had a bat that the balls come off so fast every time with crazy rotation. It has been great for hard line drives and a few home runs 300 +. Everybody on my slowpitch team uses it over the several mikens and demarinis we have. Great overall bat!

Cons: Cons.... we have trouble putting it down

No Regrets Andrew player

Pros: 10 Hits in and it was already hot. The graduated grip on the bottom of the bat gives it a more comfortable feel and better bat control for going to the opposite field. The balance on it is perfect, it took zero swings to adjust too. I wasn't sure about going with a Louisville bat, my last couple have been Miken's, but I have not regretted it.

Cons: Everyone on both teams wants to use it.

Short-Lived Step player

Pros: Felt great out of the wrapper. It has a good feel to it. It's perfectly balanced, I could easily hit line drives to all fields from both sides of the plate.

Cons: Never really seemed to get hot. After about 100-150 cuts it started making a weird cracking sound in the handle and completely died. Could just be a problem with my bat, I haven't heard about anyone else having problems with it. I sent it back to LS using the warranty.

hot! slowpitch guy player

Pros: Probably the eastiest bat to swing I've ever owned. I've gotten more into end loaded bats lately but the balance in this bat just feels right. If you can't hit a hard line drive off this bat your doing something wrong. Haven't had anyone hit one 300+ with it but every hit off this bat is hot. Great bat for hard hits in the park.

Cons: Although this bat has a super balanced feel and is easy to swing I have trouble getting it over the fence with it. I've found this bat is best for hard line drives.

Best Bat I have Ever Owned!!! Amy Emerson player

Pros: Everything, this bat was hot out of the wrapper! I was a bit nervous giving this balanced bat a try as I own 3 other Louisville Sluggers and thought nothing would ever compare to my end load bats. I was wrong this bat has taken the place of all my End Load louies. I purchased it as part of the Bat Pack a few months ago, it came with the z4000 end load. I cannot keep this bat away from my teammates, everyone uses it. I am considering purchasing another one of this same bat just because I know I will not want anything else. I also really like the gritty texture as well, it seems to help protect the bat a little more cosmetically. This review is for the 27 oz Balanced Louisville Slugger Z4000

Cons: none.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Will it hold up hitting the .44 COR, 375 compression ball, or is it designed to hit the .52 COR, 300 compression ball? Big D
You might get a good run when hitting the 375 compression softballs, but this 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) is designed to hit 275 or 300 compression softballs. Any bat that features either the new ASA shield or the BPF 1.20 "thumbprint" stamp, like this model, will be designed to hit those lower compression balls.
Mac
Does the TRU3 3-piece handle flex, or is it stiff like a one-piece bat? will11
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) will flex a bit on contact. For a stiffer feel, I would recommend the Z-2000 with its iST Connection Technology.
Mac
How would this bat compare to the Stadium Series Demarini's? Bill
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) features an three-piece fully composite design. It also features balanced swing weight, which is typically preferred by contact hitters. There are some major differences between this bat and the Stadium. The 2015 DeMarini Stadium CL22 USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (DXST2) features one-piece design but it will have a composite barrel and alloy barrel. The one-piece design means that it will have a stiffer feel on contact. The three piece design of the Z-4000 allows for more flex on contact. The additional flex can create more of a whipping action for a player looking to gain more bat speed. If you already have great bat speed, the flex can cause loss of bat head contact and momentum for the speed you can put on the bat. That is why a power hitter will prefer a one-piece over a two-piece. The Stadium is also end loaded, which is also preferred by power hitters.
Tessa
How do I choose the best bat weight, 26-30 oz.? toby
The weight on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) is typically decided by your strength or body size. If you are an undersized player looking to have a light bat, go with the 26 oz. If you are an average body type a 27 oz. would be best. The 28 oz. or 30 oz. are for the stronger folks looking to have a heavier swing weight.
Brandon
What is the temperature rating for the Z-4000? I live in central Ohio and the weather hasn't been too kind. My team is looking to start practicing outside and I'd love to break in my new bat, but I'm worried about breaking it. Jon
I would not recommend using your 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) in temperatures below 55 degrees. At those temperatures the softballs become denser and harder and the barrels on bats are not designed to hit the harder softballs possibly causing premature damage to the bats.
Jake
How should a bat like this be stored during winter in the northeast? What temperature is best to use outside in the spring? tom
Typically, you don't want to use the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) in temperatures less than 60 degrees. Also, you don't want to store your bat in extreme heat or extreme cold.
Chinyere
Will it hit the 52 core 300 compression balls? HULK
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) will be able to hit those style of balls with good performance and durability.
Patrick
What bat do you recommend for the .44 core, 375 compression ball? Jim
For .44 core balls with 375 compression I would recommend looking at a bat with only a ASA stamp, not a dual stamp. It will be damaging to the bat since they are designed for the new .52 core balls. Unless you are able to find an ASA bat with a 2004 ASA stamp or earlier it will not be designed for the .44 core balls.
Frankie
How does the Z-4000 compare to the new DC41? I am trying to decide between the two. Chris
The 2016 Miken DC-41 SuperMax USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (DEN41U) will have a 14.5 inch barrel length that would be larger than the 12 inch model on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B). However, the Z-4000 will be balanced while the DC-41 will be end-loaded. The Z-4000 also has both ASA and USSSA certification as well as NSA and ISA. While the DC-41 also has the NSA, ISA, and USSSA certification, it does not meet ASA requirements. Depending on the league or tournaments you play in, that may factor into your decision.
Patrick
I am looking for a bat like the Louisville Slugger z1000 2012 end-loaded it was black and gold lettering is has been discontinued, so I am trying to find a bat exactly like that one but have not been lucky. That bat was really good. If you can give any advice, thanks. edgar p
The Louisville Slugger TPS Z-1000 Endload Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SB12ZE) is most likely not in stock with any retailers as it has been discontinued several years ago. Either the 2015 Louisville Slugger Z-2000 End Load USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ215U-E) or the 2015 Louisville Slugger Z-2000 End Load ASA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ215A-E) would be the closest models we have depending on what type of league you play in.
Patrick
What are the differences of the Z-4000 and the Super Z bats? gonzo
The connection point between the handle and the barrel would be the main difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Super Z Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBSZ16A-B). The Z-4000 will have a bit more flex to it and allow for better bat speed while the Super Z will be stiffer to offer better control.
Patrick
Does the Z-4000 barrel spin 360 degrees? My bat barrel turns. Is it supposed to do that? Rob
The barrel on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B is not supposed to spin 360 degrees.
John P.
Can this bat be used with the .40 core/325 compression balls? Josh
Yes, this 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) will be good for use with the Classic M USSSA softballs that feature the .40 COR/325 Compression.
Ben
I love my Z3000, especially the handle thickness (or lack thereof). I was not a big fan of the Z2000 for that same reason. Is the handle on the Z4000 closer to the 3k or the 2k? Thanks. m
The width of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B handle is going to be 7/8th, which is the same width as the Louisville Slugger Z-3000 Balanced USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ314-UB. However, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B will feature a tapered handle, whereas the Louisville Slugger Z-3000 Balanced USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ314-UB featured a standard handle.
Nick
I'm confused on the description. The description states, "balanced swing weight." Later it says the bat is "end-loaded. Is this bat end weighted or not? ZOOMIE
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B is a balanced weighted bat. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 End Load ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-E is the end-loaded version of the bat.
Cameron
Does this bat come with a year warranty? Some other sites do not include the warranty because it is out of wrapper. Ric
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat: SBZ416A-B features a one year warranty through Louisville Slugger.
Jason

This Louisville Slugger Z-4000 Balanced ASA/USSSA Slow Pitch Softball Bat (SBZ416A-B) will feature a USSSA 1.20 BPF stamp on it.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
