Description

Until last season, Marucci was always known for their wood bats. Then the CAT 5 burst onto the scene and became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. This year, Marucci raises the stakes again with unbelievable new technology. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 5 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. The MSB2 features the USSSA 1.15 Stamp. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. The Marucci CAT 5 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Bought this bat for my son because it was the only bat that qualified for his middle school in my price range. I can't tell you how pleased I am with this bat. He loves it. He has had the best games of his life with this bat. It is well balanced and has absolutely no sting so he does not hesitate to try and smash the ball. His coach says that he swings as if he is hitting a beach ball instead of a baseball. He just steps up and kills it because he has no fear of a sting if he misjudges. Get this bat, you won't be sorry.

Pros: My son says he really likes the feel of the bat. It appears to have pretty good "pop" as well.

Cons: Unfortunately, he has only used it a short time and the grip tape is bunching up at the knob. I wish I had a local rep that would repair under warranty. My son can't afford to go without the bat to send it off for repair.

Coach Buss in WA

Pros: Bought this bat due to the new bat restrictions being placed at all levels and figured it would be a great transition bat for my 13 year old to BBCOR bats. He found it to have great balance, characteristics of both a metal bat for durability and a composite bat for great pop in the sweet spot. He's a line drive hitter but has hit a few bombs to the deeper fences. Great bat for a contact hitter.

Cons: Sweet spot is not as big as the full composites. (But is still a great bat or equal when compared to more expenseve bats!) Not a well known bat so getting full "buy in" from a youth is important when all his friends are swinging those more expensive Combat, Easton or Demarini bats.

Pros: Bought this bat for my son and he used it all year. In state all-star tournament he hit 3 bombs. I now have one excited 12 year old.

Cons: End cap came off at district tournament but I glued it in before the state tournament. My son did not want to wait on a replacement.

Pros: This bat definitely lives up to expectations. Good pop. Balanced swing weight. No sting. My son hit his first home run the second time out with this bat. Will buy another one for his younger brother.

Cons: Not sure about the white color. Grip doesn't look durable, but these are minor issues.

Sweet Bat

Pros: I bought the 30/22 for my 10 year old. He's tall and strong for his age. He's had it for a couple of months and absolutely loves it. He had been using a -10 Easton, and I was concerned that he'd sacrifice too much bat speed moving to the -8. It hasn't been a problem. The bat is very well balanced; my son gets it around really well; and the ball jumps off it.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: My son was sad to hear he needed a new bat due to the recent regulation changes. Right out of the box, he began crushing baseballs. He loves it! It is heavier than his old bat, but the weight is distributed evenly and he actually says that this bat feels lighter. The thicker grip/handle is a big plus. The free shipping allowed me to pay for the 3 day shipping. The bat arrived 1 day early! VERY SATITSFIED.

Cons: Bat is made in China. Other than that it is a great bat.

Pros: The minute I felt this bat I could feel how well balanced it was. My son (12) told me it felt lighter than his 31/22, its a 31/23. He has had only one game with it so what I can say is it sounds different and the ball comes off with more pop or speed. I would rap this up with you cannot beat the price for this product. We can only see how it holds up! Anyone else I speak with swears by them!

Pros: Balanced perfectly, maintains power through the stroke. My son's put 3 out with it this year and another boy on our team put out 4 more, they're 10 years old, our fields are 270-295ft. No stingers and the boys don't feel the need to wear gloves with this bat. Barring any more last minute bat rule changes, I think we found one that will last a few years.

Cons: Knob is made of rubber with a screw in plastic insert, the insert started falling out the second week he had it, Marucci gave me an RMA but it was only good for 2 weeks and he didn't want to be without it. That was in January, knob still slips out from time to time but he just pushes it back in and cranks em out.

Pros: Amazing pop. Good balance. My son got this bat at the start of his U13 USSSA season. He got the 32/24. It quickly became the team's favorite bat over bats that cost more than twice as much. More than a dozen homers were hit in their first tournament.

Cons: Grip is a weakness. Keeps coming apart. Got a dent in the first tournament, but JustBats traded for a new one.

First game he played with this bat 3 for 4, 2 triples and a double. Pros: Son plays competitive youth ball (60+ games). Ball pops off the bat as well as prior owned composite bat. Bat (-8) swings lighter than it is because of weighting in the handle.

Cons: After 4 months, the handle cap popped off. The bat worked fine through the season by tamping the handle back down. Marucci replaced the bat on warranty, and I gave my son a chance to turn it in for a different bat, but he'll play with the Marucci next year.

Pros: Great bat for the price. I got this for my 11 year old son for a fall league. Most of the team left their DeMarinis, Eastons, etc. in their bags and wanted to use the Cat 5. Several players hit the ball over the 220 ft fence with it. This bat got lots of use over the ten game fall league and so far doesn't have any dents. I will probably get another one when it wears out.

Cons: Kind of small sweet spot - between the "T and 5". If your son has a good eye, it should be no problem. Even an inch or two above or below still produces good solid hits.

will marucci cat 5s be able to be used next year for usssa 13u? the dawg

u think the cat 5 for senior league will have a stamp on it for next year but they just didnt put the stamp on yet??? cause i hope they be able to be used next year the dawg
The 2011 Cat 5"s do not have the stamps on them. In most leagues they might not be able to be used next year if the league mandates that the stamps are on the bats. The 2012 Cat 5"s will have the stamps on them.
Brett
So, this will not be eligible for usage in 2012 due to a rule change, or is it eligible but, it is missing the sticker? jake
This bat is eligible, but in most leagues, the bats will have to have the USSSA and 1.15 BPF stamp on them. This bat does not have that on it. The 2012 models will have them.

Any idea on how many inches from the barrel end of the bat the center of mass (balance point) is? Trying to figure out if the swing weight will be closer to 23 oz. Keith

I am trying to decide between the cat5 and the new easton power brigade drop 8 bats. I am small for my age (90lbs, 5 foot, and 13 years old) and i really need to know which one is better for me. Please reply. Michael
Both bats are good, it will be just up to what you like. They each have very good sweet spots and will be durable bats. It's a toss up.
KG
Is the Marucci Cat 5 legal for use for 13-15 yr. old Babe Ruth? Dean
Yes, this bat has an aluminum barrel and has the USSSA 1.15 stamp on the barrel of the bat. This bat will be legal for you to use. I would still make sure you are able to use this bat with your coach or the head of the league.
Todd
Do you have the CAT 5 2012 model with BPF 1.15 and Pony league stamps in -8 (31,23) drop? Wayne
Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League is the model you are looking for.
Linda
my 11 year old has been using a 29-19 oz bat will adding 2 oz in weight be too much for him? mark6
If he is a pretty strong kid and is handling the 29-19 pretty easily,he would be ok. But if he is smaller, that 2 ounces can be a lot. But keep in mind the Cat 5 has a nice balance so it swings light.
Linda
I've seen a lot of questions about whether the bats have the USSSA sticker. The -8 I bought a couple months ago from you has the sticker. david
This bat will feature the USSSA stamp on the bat.
John
does this bat have the USAAA 1.15 stamp Dave
Yes, it does.
Linda
What does the words Senior referring to? doug
Senior league means "big barrel". Most of them will be 2 5/8".
KG
my son was swinging a 30-20 gen x very well last year we have tried the new voodoo 29-21 not happy with it, the claim to the cat 5 is it swings lighter how would it compare to these bats weight wise? dont know whether to get a 30-22 or a 29-21? Thanks CHM
The Cat5 would swing lighter than the Voodoo. As to the size to go with, I generally don't recommend going down in length, because how fast boys grow. Depending on your son's age and size, the 30-22 would be a good one, because the Cat5 is more balanced.
Linda
If he did well with a 30-20 gen X, then he would probably do well with a 30-22 in cat 5, because of its balanced swing weight.
Shelbe
Can this bat be used in Pony Baseball So So
Yes. This is approved for pony leagues.
KG
My son hit a 29 19 Rival last year and I am thinking the the 29 21 for him this year. He is 10. What would you recommend? Flames4
It really depends on his strength. The CAT 5 is lightweight and very balanced, so if he is a strong hitter the 29/21 would be fine.
K.B.
is this bat 1.15bpf Dad7
Yes, this bat would feature the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp on the bat.

14 year old - 5'2" and 100 lbs, likes the Cat5 but we don't know whether to go with -8 or -5 for his final youth/senior league spring season. He needs to work up to -3 for high school summer ball in 5 months. Hit with -8 last spring and wood bats in fall league (which he could handle but not easily). Any recommendations? Max
You do want to slowly move them in weight as they get older, but you dont want the weight of the bat to effect their mechanics. I would recommend going with the -5, just because it will help prepare him for high school when he gets to a -3.
Ryan
Our league is not allowing two-piece bats nor composite bats. Is the CAT 5 a composite bat? Mike
No, this is a one piece all alloy model.
John
Do you think is better then the rival. jc
This will be more of a personal preference. Both are good bats.
KG
Whats better the cat 5 or the black dom
Both bats are very good options. The Cat 5 is an all one piece alloy bat and the Black is a two piece bat. These bats have great pop and large sweet spots.
KG
14 year old - 5'4" and 110 lbs, I believe that am looking at the drop 5. Have heard conflicting reports about whether or not to look at a 30/25 or a 31/26. Is there much of a difference in these two sizes? Any advice? Ballfan
You can determine the best size by checking out our size chart at http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth%20big%20barrel/.
Kara
Is the Cat 5 approved for USSSA play? Is it stamped with a BPF 1.15 rating? Allen
Yes, the MSB2 does have the new USSSA stamp for 2012. The MSB2 is an all alloy bat with a large sweet spot, durable barrel and has been a popular -5 bat.
Kris
Does the bat have the year of manufacture and "approved for pony" per 2012 pony rule changes? dylan
This bat is legal for use in Pony League. It will not have "approved for pony league" printed on the bat, since the barrel size is 2 5/8 inches. Only bats with a barrel diameter of 2 1/4 in are required to have "approved for pony league" stamped on the bat.
Jennifer
Is this bat legal in little league? rat
Yes. This bat is legal in Little League
Tyler
is this bat leagal in ussa torniments Rich
Yes this Marucci Cat 5: MSB2 features the USSSA Stamp and is legal for use in USSSA tournaments depending on what barrel size is required for the age your son or daughter is playing in.
Tom
I am looking for a bat for my 13 year old to use in both USSSA tournaments and Junior Little League tournaments. Would this bat be legal for both? Do you have any suggestions for other bats that are legal in both leagues? Vokal MOM
Based on the information I have, this bat would be legal for both. It is an all alloy bat, so it doesn't need to meet BBCOR standards for Junior Little League and can have any drop. It also has the new USSSA stamp making it legal for play in USSSA tournaments as well. Since rules do change from league to league, I would suggest double checking with your league official just to make sure.
Jennifer
is the cat 5 senior league msb2 approved for play in babe ruth league? jv
Depends on your division. If you're in the 13-15 year old division it is 100% legal. If you're in the 16-18 division, it is not, because you have to use a -3 adult bat in that division.
Tyler
Last year, my son used a 31/19 bat. He's 5'6" and pretty strong. I was wondering If I should get him the -8 version? Mark
Moving to a -8 will depend on what feels best to the player. It's recommended to move up in weight each year to help build muscle, creating more power. Have him swing a -8 to see if he feels comfortable and if the bat speed is consistent a -8 will work for him.
Kris
I am considering a cat5 for my 8 yr old he is 4ft 9 80 lbs. What is the most solid all around size and make in this brand? kcgin34
Based on his height and weight, a 30 inch 22 ounce model would be the best option.
Tyler
I have a 12 year old son, 5' tall, 83 lbs. Looking for right size bat. JT
Based on his height and weight, I would suggest going with a 30 inch bat. As far as weight is concerned, it is generally recommended to move up an ounce or two each time you buy a new bat. I would probably move up a couple ounces from the bat he is currently using.
Billy
Is this a big barrel bat? Bkosk23
Yes, the Marucci MSB2 would be considered a big barrel at 2 5/8 inches. For more bat information feel free to contact our customer service at 1-866-321-2287.
Shelbe
I am a power hitter and I am 5'0", 111 pounds. Would the Marucci CAT 5 or Marucci Black be better? bomber
Power hitters typically prefer a one-piece bat and contact hitters typically prefer two-piece designs. With that being said, the Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy design that works great for power hitters and the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid design that works great for contact hitters. If you are a power hitter, I would suggest going with the Marucci CAT 5.
Austin
I am 12, 113 pounds , and 5 foot 3. Is a 31" 23oz too big? Reedinator
The 31" is the suggested size for your particular height and weight. That size should work well for you.
Nick
Is the knob on this bat really 2oz? Reed
No. I have no information that the knob on this bat is 2 ounces.
Damon
I am a small 13 year old 75 pounds and 4'8. Would a 30 inch -8 be good to swing till one more year in high school when i have to use a -3? Jeremy
Yes, I think that a 30" 22oz would be a good size bat for you. We no longer have the Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 in that size though.
Nick D
Is this bat as good or even better than the Easton S3 performance wise? Reed
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League and the Easton S3: SL11S310 Senior League are going to be very similar in performance and features. They are both one-piece alloy bats with a balanced swing weight.
Nick D
What bat do you recomend to a power hitter with a .750 batting averag?, the cat 5, the Easton s1, the Easton xl3, or the tpx z1000 Reed
I would recommend the Easton XL3: SL11X39 Senior League. It is the only endloaded bat of those options which tends to be best for power hitters.
Nick D
My friends say this bat dents easily, is this true? T.J. D
We have not received feedback that the Marucci CAT 5 dents. Keep in mind there is a one year manufacture warranty that covers defects.
Kara
My son has this bat in a 31/26 -5. Is this bat legal for NFHS play? It says senior league play, not for high school use. He is an incoming freshman Wendall
Only Adult -3 BBCOR bats are approved for High School play. -5 Senior League bats like the Marucci MSB2 are not approved for High School play.
Tyler
Is this bat still legal for Little League Junior Division? Jackzack
Little League Junior Division rules say alloy bats can be any length to weight ratio, so yes.
Damon
Is this bat legal for Babe Ruth Senior League baseball? kyle
Yes. Bats with alloy barrels can be any length to weight and this has the BPF 1.15 USSSA stamp.
Damon
Will this bat be stiff or have a lot of barrel flex? Would the marucci black be better for a power hitter? Reed
The Marucci Cat 5 is going to have a stiff barrel. Both options are good for power hitters.
Sean
Is this bat balanced or end loaded? Reed
The Marucci CAT 5 is a balanced bat.
Nick K.
What is the difference between power hitter and contact hitter? Baseball mom
A power hitter is a player that hits in the middle of the order and hits the ball to or over the fence consistently. A contact hitter is a hard ground ball or line drive hitter.
Zach
My son will be 10 years old, is 4'7" and 65 pounds. He is a contact hitter and I would like him to use a bat that can give him a little more power without losing his bat speed. Would the Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 or the Marucci Black be more appropriate for him? If not, which bat is recommended? Which bat will he be able to bring around more quickly? Currently he is using the Easton SV12 28" 18 oz and I wanted him to move up to a 29 inch bat for next year. He will be a second year Mustang PONY League. DY
Both these bats would be great. They are both balanced for a contact hitter. The Marucci Black will be a two piece bat so it will help him more with the bat speed.
Damon
If people say that power hitters use top heavy bats then why is Bryce Harper's bat balanced and he was hitting bombs with the Marucci CAT 5? cj
Bryce Harper hits for power and average. Players who strictly hit for power tend to prefer end loaded bats. You can still hit for power with a balanced bat.
Tom
Is there a 32/25 CAT 5? And do they come in 2 3/4 barrel? A player with avg speed swing, is this a good bat for him? atf32
No but the Marucci CAT 5 is offered in a 32" 24 oz. with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Here is a link to look at that model. http://www.justbats.com/product/marucci-cat-5--msb2-senior-league/13176/?pa_source=justbats&pa_medium=was&pa_campaign=badges&pa_content=13176
Tom
What is the difference btw the Marucci CAT 5 and the Marucci Black? atf32
The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece fully aluminum bat and the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid design (composite handle/aluminum barrel). Here is a link to compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
can you use this bat in 13-15 year old babe ruth baseball? paul
Yes. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League bat is 100% legal in the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth.
Tyler
My son used a -8.5 exo last year and loved it. We need to move to a -8 as he gets closer to high school. Is this the only good one piece bat in a -8 or do we have other options. Dan
Other one piece options available in a -8 are the COMBAT 52 Caliber, Louisville Slugger Z-1000, Metalstorm White Dragon and Anderson Ignite. Between all these though, the Cat 5 is the best seller and has tremendous pop. I'm sure he'll love the Cat 5.
Tyler
is the cat 5 aloud in the 2 5/8 barrel diameter in the 13 to 15 ages? Hawks #47
That depends on what league you play in and their bat rules. It should be legal, but I recommend checking with your coach or league director.
Tyler
I really do want this bat but are there also any other bats that are like the cat 5? Hawks #47
Other bats similar to the Cat 5 are the Easton S3, Rip-It Prototype and Rawlings 5150 Velo.
Tyler
My sons batting coach (former pro) said this is a hot bat right now. He is 5 feet 100 pounds and outgrown his Worth Lithium 30/20. I am worried about the drop 8 and that its not a monster barrel. What do you think? tsma120
The Marucci CAT 5 is one of the hottest bats on the market. It is very lightweight and balanced, perfect for a player making the transition to a -8 bat.
Kara
What does, Most Responsive Alloy in the Industry mean? homerunking
Responsive Alloy just means that the alloy used in the Marucci CAT 5 has a lot of pop.
Tom
Can you use this bat in Pony League? golfer
The Marucci CAT 5 is legal in Pony League.
Kara
My son is 12 years old i am wondering if I should get the Marrucci Cat 5 or the Tpx Omaha? Piddle
That depends on the player and their preferences. However, I would give a slight edge to the Cat 5 in terms of pop, but I would give a slight edge to the Omaha in terms of durability.
Tyler
Which is better for a 12 year old looking to swing a -8 the Marucci CAT 5 or the Marucci Black? REDBIRD4
Both bats feature high performing AZ3000 alloy in the barrel. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece fully aluminum design and the Marucci Black is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and aluminum barrel.
Tom
I'm thinking about buying the CAT 5. I don't know because I am seeing a lot of people break the knob. Do you think the CAT 5 will last long? mikey
There were issues with the knob coming off the Marucci CAT 5. However, Marucci has addressed this problem and should improve the durability of the bat.
Kara
Will this bat be legal in 2013 for USSSA and Babe Ruth? Dmiller
Yes. The Marucci Cat 5 Senior League has the USSSA 1.15 stamp and is also legal for Babe Ruth play.
Damon
Is the 34 inch barrel legal because I was told by officials that it was not legal. Bighitter
The Marucci Cat 5 (Adult model) 33" and 34" was banned for High School and NCAA play. We have not heard of any news on the Senior League Cat 5 being deemed illegal.
John
Is it a BBCOR bat? Matt
No. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 is a youth big barrel bat. Only adult bats are BBCOR certified.
Tyler
Is the Marucci CAT 5 legal for U 13 play? Hawks #47
The Marucci Cat 5: MSB2 features the newest USSSA stamp so should be legal for you to use unless you are required to use a BBCOR bat. There are also some 13U leagues that wont allow bat that has more than a -5 length to weight ratio in which case this would not be legal.
Tom
Is this bat legal in 11u-75 NJBL league games? bowser
Yes. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 is legal in the 11U division of NJBL.
Tyler
Just ordered this bat. Moving up from a TPX Omaha 29/19 to the Cat5 30/22 and was wondering what the durability of this bat is compared to the TPX? Keep it away from Juggs balls? Mike
The Omaha is one of the most durable bats on the market, and is hard to beat in that category. That being said, the Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 has above average durability and is a very solid bat with great pop.
Tyler
My son is 5' and 90 pounds. What size Marucci Cat 5 is recommended? troy
I would recommend a 30" bat for your son. See our sizing chart for more help: http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/selecting-a-baseballbat/
Damon
Can this bat be used in Little League Juniors play? tman
Yes. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League is approved for the Junior Division of Little League.
Tyler
im 5' and 80 pounds i use a 31 inch bat which i love what bat size should i get? ( 31 18oz) trace
Based on your height and weight, a 30" bat is recommended with a weight between 20 and 22 ounces.
Tyler
my son is 10 and is 4 and 1/2 feet tall, weighs about 70 lbs. He is currently using the Nike Aero fuse 28/18. He needs bigger bat, is the Marucci 29/21 to big for him to jump up to? beefy
That would be very difficult for us to answer without being able to see and analyze your son's swing. If he had above average swing speed and good bat control with is 18 oz. bat, then a weight increase of 1-3 oz. is recommended.
Tyler
I'M 5ft 2in 91 POUNDS WHAT SIZE BAT SHOULD I GET? mike
Based on your height and weight, a 31" bat is recommended with a weight between 23 and 26 oz.
Tyler
Is there a Marucci CAT5 30/20? Jack
Unfortunately, the Cat 5 is not available in that size. I recommend checking out the Marucci Team bats.
Tyler
What is the difference between the Marucci CAT 5 and the Marucci Black? pin
The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece fully aluminum bat, whereas the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid design so it has a composite handle and aluminum barrel.
Tom
Is a composite bat better than a aluminum bat? joker
Both perform very well. The Marucci CAT 5 has excellent pop for an alloy bat.
Kara
Is this bat legal for play in Babe Ruth Baseball? Rebel 1
Yes. The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 is approved for Babe Ruth play.
Tyler
Is the Marucci Black better then the Marucci Cat 5? pin
Both are good bats. The Marucci Cat 5 is a one piece alloy whereas the Marucci Black is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. If you like a bat with flex, the Black would be a better choice.
Damon
Does this bat have a 17 0r 18 oz version? Length of 29 or 30 inches? If not, what do you recommend that is comparable to what I am looking for? Bo
The Marucci CAT 5 is not manufactured in a big barrel model with that type of length to weight ratio. The Marucci Team bat is available in 30" and 29" which would be 20oz and 19oz. with 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Tom
My son is 4'5"/85lbs on a 11u team. He has pretty good power, but needs to improve his bat speed. Would you recommend the CAT 5 or the Black? BigDad
I would recommend going with the two piece Marucci Black. It will help him increase his bat speed better.
Noah
I have an 11 year old playing 13u. He needs a good bat...he currently hits a drop 10, He has been hitting a Rawlings 5150 but wants to move up to a drop 8? What would be bat for him? Smithboys4
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League would be a great choice for him. It has great pop and gets great reviews.
Jeff
Which would you pick? The Marucci CAT 5 or the Marucci Black? joe
Both the Marucci CAT 5 and the Marucci Black will have great balance and feature Marucci's high performing AZ3000 alloy. Your decision will have to come down to whether you prefer a one-piece fully aluminum design or a two-piece hybrid design (composite handle/aluminum barrel).
Tom
Do you plan to get more sizes in stock or is Marucci coming out with a 2013 model of the CAT 5? Jamie
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League bat is a discontinued model. For a comparable model, take a look at the Marucci Team Senior League bat.

Brandon
My son is 9 years old, 70lbs and is a contact hitter. We're looking for a big barrel bat for this Spring travel ball. He currently has an Easton S1 28" 16 oz. Would the Marucci Cat 5 28/20 be too big of a jump up in weight for him. Brian
That's difficult to say without being able to see an analyze his swing. If he has above average swing speed and good bat control with his 28" 16 oz. bat, then he should be fine moving up to a 20 oz. model. If not, then a 17 or 18 oz. bat is recommended.
Tyler
Is the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Certified? beast
This Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League bat in not BBCOR Certified. This bat is for Senior League play only.
Brandon
USSSA rules states that a big barrel bat cannot be bigger than 2 3/4" in diameter. This bat is 2 5/8", my fractions are bad, but isn't this diameter within the rules of USSSA? My son plays on a 10U travel team. JFW
The Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 Senior League features a 2 5/8" barrel making slightly it smaller than 2 3/4" and legal for play.
Kevin
My son is 54" 70 lbs 8 years old power hitter. Used a 27/17, 2 5/8 Easton Rival til it dented beyond use. Got the 2013 Easton S3 but it had no pop. Bought the Marucci Team red 27/17 2 5/8. Great bat but it was way too light for him. Would the Cat5 28/20 be too big a jump? He's still coach pitch and all the reviews say the Cat5 feels lighter than the -8. Wardog
That depends on his strength and his swing speed with his previous bats. If he has good strength and above average swing speed with his 17 oz. bats, a 20 oz. model of the Marucci CAT 5: MSB2 should work out great for him as the CAT 5 is a well balanced bat.
Tyler
Will hitting hard rubber balls damage the bat? Priscilla Powell
Using hard rubber balls will increase the chance the bat will be damaged.
