Description

Until last season, Marucci was always known for their wood bats. Then the CAT 5 burst onto the scene and became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. This year, Marucci raises the stakes again with unbelievable new technology. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 5 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. The Marucci CAT 5 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Easily the most balanced bat you can swing and with that, feels much lighter than any other drop-10. Has a nice "crack" sound with solid contact and definitely no sting. More pop than expected from this all aluminum bat. The slight handle taper near the knob is also a plus. Would highly recommend, especially at this price.

Marucci-Rocks

Pros: My 11 year old son loves his new bat! In the first game he went 3-4 with a single, double and his first HR of the season. He will not touch his old DeMarini bat anymore. He absolutely loves the balance of it and the feel it has upon contact. He has bunted once with it and it dropped it dead.

Cons: His only complaint is that it is taking some time to get used to the knob, it is much larger then what he was accustomed to with his DeMarini.

Pros: Just recieved bat. Only been in cages with live pitching. This bat is "CRAZY" hot! My son is going into 10 premiere this fall and I cant wait. His bat speed improved instantly.I, like other's was sucked in the big barrel craze and I made this decision on the 21/4 and go back to basics that has been working for years. The balance of the bat is so intelligently egineered it blows me away...Thanks

Cons: None yet....will continue..

9 year old Little Leaguer

Pros: Fantastic bat. Easily the best my son has ever played with. Not wanting a composite or big barrel due to league restrictions we looked for a quality, well balanced bat. After going through numerous, this one just hit the spot. The most impressive feature is the balance. Although it may weigh more than some of the super light bats out there, it doesn't feel it. There's also a very satisfying 'ping' when the ball is hit and my son never feels the vibration from an inside hit. I'm totally sold on Marucci metal bats now and will stick with them.

Cons: None

Pros: MY SON GOT THIS BAT FOR THE FALL LEAGUE 2011, AFTER ONLY PLAYING WITH EASTON BATS FOR THE LAST 4YRS, THIS BAT IS FAR SUPERIOR!!! HE IS ONLY 10YR OLD AND HITTING THE BALL TO THE FENCE 225FT, THE BALL JUST SEEMS TO BOUNCE OFF THIS BAT, MUCH BETTER THEN THE HIGH-END EASTONS WE'VE BEEN USING. GREAT FEEL, SOUND, AND WEIGHT. EXCELLENT BAT!!!!!!!!

Cons: NONE.

Pros: Out of all the composites i have used this has better pop, even though its an alloy. The balance is amazing i have the 31,21 cat and it feels like a 19 ouncer. The sweetspot is about the size of a cf4 sweetspot.Cant really describe how comfortable this bat is either. Also the tape is very durable, and love the tapered end.

Cons: usually the cat reduces shock, but if you hit it below the M you will have a very strong vibration

RipTide

Pros: This bat is by far the best 2 1/4" availible today. The balance allows a player to move up from a 30-20, and honestly a drop 12, without losing any speed on his swing while the same producing heavier hits with the wieght. It's a strange feel in the most positive way, meaning it swings like a lighter bat but feels much heavier than any other 31oz. bat we own or use on the teams. The sound is a crisp "ting" and the grip is comfortable. Ball leaves the bat hard and fast with solid contact. They have made their mark and reputation on this aluminum bat when designed.

Cons: When hit within the sweet spot, you can't even feel the contact, but if you get jammed inside and hit low on the barrell it will hurt your hands something fierce. No different than any other bat I guess, but again, step out and get your hips around and its gone. It still rates a five star in not just my own, but coaching staff and players as well.

Pros: 28/18 8yr old Only used in one 8U tournament so far but, he was hitting some hard fast shots with it all weekend. This bat sounds great, too.

Cons: My son complained about the big chunck of rubber wrapped at the knob. I cut it off and wrapped the bat with tape (which we do with most of his bats). Problem solved.

Pros: My son is a big 11 year old with a powerful swing and this was the perfect bat! NO VIBRATION. No flex, durable and will last forever. Why get a composite? Best deal for the money.

Cons: Graphic are so-so but who cares?? Everyone keeps asking if his 32" , 22 OZ is legal.

9 year old Little Leaguer - going on 10

Pros: We just purchased our second one of these at the next size up (30"). Having wanted to try another bat, we went with the Combat B4 and it didn't last more than a couple practices before my son went back to his old Marucci Cat 5. Tons of pop, balance and the vibration control really works. Although this isn't a testament to this bat's ability, when my son is at clinics and runs into minor league (MLB) players, they usually get a kick out of his Marucci because many of them also use the wood version. At least it makes him a bit proud of his equipment.

Cons: The grip tape is weak. I had to replace the grip on the first bat after a few months and for the second bat we purchased, I replace the grip immediately out of the box so I wouldn't need to think about it. For such a high quality bat, it's surprising that the grip is so low budget.

Pros: So evenly balanced that my 9 yr old swings the 29/19 with ease and he only weighs 53 lbs. Very solid, very good pop, even balance, awesome sound. He has had it for 2 weeks and 3 other kids on his travel team have already ordered themselves one !

Cons: Not really a con but I would suggest going up an inch in this bat. The swing weight is so evenly balanced that the bat feels lighter than it is.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT 5 Youth Baseball Bat: MYB2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

will the marucci cat5 bats be able to be used for usssa next year for 13 under? treva dd
The 2011 Cat 5 does do not have the stamps on them. In most leagues they might not be able to be used next year if the league mandates that the stamps are on the bats. The 2012 Cat 5"s will have the stamps on them.
Brett
when will 2012 marucci cat 5 come out the dawg
These bats should be coming out in the middle of the summer. Marucci has not given us a specific date, only that they will be here in the middle of the summer.
Brett
My son is 7 years old and swings a 29" easton omen , what size marucci cat 5 would he swing? He is 53" tall and weights 71 pounds. hmsiv
I 29 inch bat is typically recommended for players with your son's height and weight. I think he would do well with the 29"19oz Cat 5.
Brett
What age would you recommend the marucci bat for? Big Guns
Youth bats are most commonly used by players between the ages of 7 and 12. It depends on the height, weight, and strength of the player to determine exactly which size would be best.
JH
How does the 2012 Cat5 compare to the Omen and the CF4 as far as pop? RM
The Omen and CF4 are going to be the hottest bats on the market. The MYB2 is going to be a bat that is going to have good pop and durability. This is a bat that will work really well.
Todd
I'm going to play for a 12u usssa team next summer. I'm thinking about the this Marucci. I'm more of a contact hitter. Will this bat be a good choice? Turbo
Yes, the Marucci Cat5 is a great choice for contact hitters, it is a balanced bat with quite a bit of pop.
Sean
What type of bat do I need for my son next year? He will play in the Bronco class at a Pony League sponsored Field. Will they be goin to BBCOR bats and are all BBCOR bats drop 3? Or will this only apply to Pony and up? And just as important, what diamater of bat do i need? Got a Marucci 32" drop 3 but it is too big for him. want another Marucci for the next two years. Mike
All leagues have different requirements depending on the age group. BBCOR bats are all -3 and have 2 5/8" barrels. They are normally used for High School and College, but some leagues do require a BBCOR bat for Junior High age groups. The youth models are 2 1/4" barrels. Check with your league official for exact rules.

I thought i made my desicion on the Easton S1 but when I saw this bat.... Which one? Im a contact hitter. MJK
A two-piece bat like the S1 will have more flex and will be better suited for a contact hitter. Both are great bats though.
John
Will Marucci be making a big barrel version of the Cat 5 squared in a -10? My son plays 10U travel ball and has been swinging a big barrel bat for almost two years. Hit a demo today and loved it but wanted a big barrel. TJ
They do make a big barrel version, but they will only be making them in a -8.
Kara
Where is it made? mimi
The Marucci Cat 5 is made in China.
Kara
will there be anything composite? goodlookin
The Marucci Cat 5 is 100% alloy. No composite.
Derek
My son is 9 yrs. old. He is 55 inches tall and weighs 85 lbs. what size and weight marucci cat 5 would he need. THANKS Arnold
I would suggest looking at a 29-30" bat. That is the recommended size for that age range.
KG
I'm looking at buying a 2011 Cat 5 Squared -10 Yth Bat, I need to know if these have the new stamp thats needed to be legal for dixie youth baseball?? If not, what year models will have it?? jkappus
If it is a 2011, I doubt it will be considered legal for 2012. My suggestion to be safe, is get a 2012 model, all of those will meet all of the new rulings.
Linda
Big barrel or not? My son is playing on a 10U team and I am looking at the marucci CAT5 and we are trying to decide on which barrel to buy? Big or not, what do you think? Baseball Don
First thing I would do is check with the league to see what is allowed. I would hate to suggest the big barrel, then find out he is only allowed to use the small barrel. If he is allowed to use the big barrel, that would be my suggestion.
Linda
I would like to know which bat is recommended, between this cat5 or nanotek xp, (30/20 both) my 9 year old son, has a good swing but needs a little confidence, thanks. Andre
The Cat 5 would have an edge over the Nanotek. It is very lightweight and balanced.
K.B.
I am looking for a youth albine bat and was told marucci bought them out. Is the marucci cat -5 similar version? mo
I don't know much about Albin bats, but I have heard of them. Based on the limited information I have about Albin bats, is that they feel great to swing, and they pop is comparable to middle of the line Easton or Louisville bat. Based on that, I would say the Cat 5 is a notch or two above the Albin in terms of performance.
TJ
Can u tell me what bat would be the best for my son. He is 10 years old fixing to turn 11 and weighs 100 pounds. HE is 4 foot 10 inches. Thankyou lori
In order to give the most informed answer, we need more info. Is he required to use the 2 1/4" inch bat or is he allowed to use the big barrel?
Linda
I have a 7 yo who will be in his 2nd season of machine pitch. I want to purchase a Marucci bat (28 inch), but I am unsure of the 2 1/4 diameter or the big barrel. Both have the league requirements of the 1.15 BPF. Suggestions for which bat is better for him for ages 7-9? bg
Whether he uses a 2 1/4" or 2 5/8" depends on the league he plays in, and what they allow.
Linda
Is this bat a 2012 little league approved bat? Bonnie
Yes. This is approved for little league.
KG
I need a 100% alloy bat for my sons league it can't have any composite material at all or any type of hybrid. Is this bat all alloy and does it say so on it because some of the umps check and if there's ant doubt they say the bats no good so I need to no before I buy it. Chris
The CAT 5 is a one piece all alloy bat.
Kara
Is the Cat 5 legal in USSSA play? I do not see the required stamp above the grip. Thank you, TT Tommy
This particular one only has the 1.15 stamp on it. Not the official USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. The most recent info given to us, says this bat is being grandfathered in for 1 yr. Then in 2013 all bats will be required to have the official stamp.
Linda
We need to have a bat that is USSSA approved and a BPF of 1.15. Is the Marucci Cat 5 :MYB2 Youth approved for this? How about the Marucci Black Youth? Schae
both bats will be marked bpf 1.15 but do not have the USSSA stamp on them
Sean
Will the 2012 marucci cat 5 have the approved stamp on it? Claudia
No. It doesn't have the USSSA required stamp.

Jennifer
Is it stamped to indicate BPF 1.15. Jake
This bat is stamped with "BPF 1.15". This bat is legal for use in 2012 since the stamp is being grandfathered in for the 2012 season. However, in 2013 all bats are going to be required to have the new USSSA stamp.
Jennifer
Is this considered a big barrel bat like the other Marucci Cat 5 models? Would this bat be appropriate for my 8 year old 8U player? Ryan
The MYB2 is not a big barrel bat. It is considered a small barrel. This size bat can still be used by an eight year old player.
KB

That is correct. None of the Marucci Cat 5 models contain any composite material in the barrel or the handle.
Tom

Unfortunately, the MYB2 does not have the new USSSA stamp that will be required in 2013
Tyler
Does this bat come in at 30-19? kali
This bat does not come in that size. It is a -10 bat, therefore a 30" 19oz will not be available. The closest size this bat will come to that is 30" 20oz.
