Description

Maximize your swing's potential this season with the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid! The 5150 Exogrid features a one-piece alloy frame that is reinforced with patented Exogrid with Ph.D. Technology. Some players perform better with a stiff handle bat. Until now those players had to compromise a sweet feeling bat for peak performance because as a bat gets stiffer, its vibrational response increases. By incorporating Ph.D. technology (passive hybrid damping) into stiff handle bat designs, the need for compromise is over. Ph.D. is the ultimate in vibration reduction technology, and it will revolutionize the feel of stiff handle bats because it filters out harsh vibration more effectively than any previous technologies. Rawlings once again employs the help of Sci-Fly technology with their development of this year's line. This is a Ball Flight and Hitting Analysis System using Doppler Radar to track ball flight characteristics. The launch angle, ball speed, hit distance, and spin rate from the point of contact is measured to identify a bat that matches a unique swing style scientifically. Rawlings: Your Swing. Maximized! This bat is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and USSSA. The 5150 Exogrid is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: SICK BAT! I took a flier on this bat since it was so cheap and was a little unsure cause I hadn't heard anything about it. But what a deal! Great pop, and my son says it feels better than his Omen! Can't believe it!

Cons: Grip is average, but so far that's it.

HiDad

Pros: In 2010 I bought my son the original 5150. Out of the wrapper he just started killing the ball. Now 2 years later he has out grown his bat and needed to upgrade. Out of any LL approved bat on the market he chose to get the top of the line 5150. This bat has not disappointed. Major pop and hard line drives it what you can expect. My 8y/o slugger has 7 homeruns in 4 games. I'm sold on the 5150 line of bats for life. To me this is the best bat on the market. With the Omens and S1s collecting dust in my closet.

Cons: Grip bad, and may cause serious injury to other players.

Pros: I purcahsed this bat beacuse It was a Rawlings, looked diferrent than all the others, and the price. After My son used this bat I saw a huge diffrence in how he controlled his swing and contact. The bat is well balanced, sounds solid with great pop. Very under-rated and under-promoted. The price is a steal for the quality. My son has several teammates with $200+ bats who like to use this bat over their own. Highly recommended!

Cons: None. Grip is average.

Pros: My ten year old started to use this last summer because he had a hard time adjusting between his LL bat and his two travel bats. He eventually used this instead of the big barrel bats. It has great pop. His coach kept commenting on the way the ball jumped off of his bat. He used a 30 inch last summer and I bought him a 31 inch for the fall and winter. For the price, I bought him a 32 inch model for the future.

Cons: We have had some paint chipping but very minor in comparison to what this can do for you.

Pros: MY SON IS 7 AND HIT 8 HOMERS, 150 FOOT FENCE. NOT SURE ABOUT OTHER FIELDS DISTANCE BUT ONLY ONE OTHER KID HIT ONE OVER IN HIS CITY LEAGUE. YOU CAN TELL BY THE SOUND WHEN IT HITS THE SWEET SPOT. -10 IS A GREAT BAT FOR HIM AND FOR THE STRONGER KIDS. THE BALL COMES OFF THE BAT HOT. OTHER PARENTS PURCHASED THE SAME BAT AFTER SEEING MY SON HIT WITH IT. THING IS IF YOU DONT HAVE POWER, DONT GET -10. THEY HAVE NEGATIVE RESULTS BECAUSE THE BAT WAS TO HEAVY. ITS A BAD THING AND A PROUD THING TO SAY THAT WHEN YOUR SON WALKS UP TO THE PLATE, ALL THE KIDS BACK THE HECK UP, WAY UP. LOVE THIS BAT.

Cons: PAINT CHIPS. ALSO AFTER ALOT OF BATTING PRACTICE, TO SEE SOME DENTS. BUT HE HAS BEEN HITTING IT FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS.

This bat does have composite inserts in the handle of the bat. That is the reason that it will say composite on the barrel. The barrel is 100% alloy.

If it has some composite in the handle, does it need to be broken in similar to what it says in the Vexxum thread of questions? Just got both in a "bat pack". bt
The only bats that require break-in time are bats that have a composite barrel. If the bat has composite in the handle and an aluminum barrel it would not require a break-in time. Because the 2012 Rawlings 5150 Exogrid: YB51X2 has an aluminum barrel, it will be hot out of the wrapper.
Tom
Which would be best for a player who hits for some contact and some power? I am looking at the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid, Easton Convert, and DeMarini Vexxum. Lefty
All three bats will be good. The Easton Convert and DeMarini Vexxum bats are two-piece bats so they will favor a contact hitter a bit more, whereas the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid is a one-piece bat and may favor the power side of your game.
Damon
Is this bat approved for 2013 USSSA play? I don't see the USSSA approved stamp. Steve
Yes, the Rawlings 5150 Exogrid will be legal for play in USSSA for 2013. USSSA is requiring all youth model bats to have the USSSA "thumbprint" stamp for 2014.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
