Description

The SAM BAT KB1 could be considered the true classic SAM BAT. Sporting our most popular knob with a slight flare, the KB1 is a regular barrel model with a long, smooth taper from handle to barrel. The KB1 is a superbly balanced bat with plenty of power. All SAM BATs are crafted from professional grade hard rock maple for outstanding strength, longevity and performance. Some folks will lead you to believe that wood is wood, and that the brand does not matter. Others will tell you that the bigger the brand, the better the wood, because of their sheer mass of raw materials, and the ability to hand select the finest timber. We will tell you that is only the beginning. All Sam Bat timber is of the highest grade Hard Maple available in North America. Every bat to come out of the mill is made from the top 5% of Hard Maple Prime Grade Timber. That makes a Sam Bat good, but what happens next makes it great. Conventional lathes put a tremendous amount of stress on timber as the wood is being turned. This fatigue weakens the stick before it even sees the ballpark. Sam Bat timber is turned into a baseball bat on a proprietary lathe, custom built for and designed by Sam Holman, the founder of Sam Bat. This exclusive technology puts absolutely no stress on the timber during the production process. Most bats lose at least 4-5 long shots before they leave the factory floor, but Sam Bats keep them. But the real test is at the elite pro level. In just a few years, hundreds of professional players have made the switch to Sam Bat Hard Maple. Sam Bat: The Original Maple Bat Corporation! Pros: Let me start by saying I hardly ever review anything but these bats are so well made I felt the need to do so here: They aren't cheap, but like most things in life you get what you pay for, Ive owned and used L. S. TPX Maple, L.S. M9 Maple, Easton Maple and the new Marucci Maple, none of these bats have held up as well as my 2006 KB1, Sam's bats are distinctively crafted as evidenced by the weight and size marked by hand in the barrel cups, No other wood bat in today's market compares in fit or finish to these, Spend a few extra dollars and you wont be disappointed

Cons: Still a wood bat so its not indestructible(broke my previous KB1 from 2004),If you get a custom bat it takes 2-5 weeks to make because they're that picky about the Maple blanks they use(more of a testament to quality than a con)

Hawaiin Punch

Pros: This bat is awesome. I have used MANY wood bats and out of all of them I love this bat the most. I have used X-bats, Marucci, Louisville Slugger, Mizuno, and Rawlings. I am in the 8th grade and my team mates and I had a homerun derby and they used bbcor and I used this bat. I ended up having 22 homeruns while the 2nd highest was 9 with bbcor. This is a crazy good bat and I highly recommend this bat.

Cons: At the beginning it feels end loaded but after you spend time in the cage with a bbcor and switch back to the Sam Bat feels so much lighter.

Pros: As a Coach who has a son that has played for over 8 years, this is the best Wood Bat he has ever had. Had this bat for 2 years and it still has plenty of Pop. It has not cracked after over 8,000 swings on regular baseballs and cage balls. This is a great bat.

The Sam Bat Maple (KB1) will feature a more flared knob. On the other hand the Sam Bat Maple (CD1) will have a longer taper.

Does it have good pop like the CD1? Afgsbehhbh
The Sam Bat Maple Wood Bat (KB1) will be similar in terms of performance to the Sam Bat Maple Wood Bat (CD1) but would have a different feel due to the different turn model. The KB1 will be better balanced.

The Sam Bat Maple Wood Baseball Bat (KB1) will be most similar to the Marucci Albert Pujols (AP5) model in terms of swing weight. The flared knob of the KB1 would be the most similar to the AP5 as well. The Marucci JB19 would be the most balanced of the three. The Sam Bat KB1 does have a small cupped end.

What bat is better for a contact hitter: the KB1 or the 2K1? batfinder
The Sam Bat Maple Wood Baseball Bat (KB1) Walker/Black Adult features a 271 turn model, which means that it will have a slightly end loaded feel to it. The 271 turn model can actually be comfortably used by contact and power hitters, however, if you are looking for a better bat for contact only, the Sam Bat Maple Wood Baseball Bat (R2K1 (73)) Black/Natural Adult may be the better choice. That model features a very balanced swing weight (no end load), which is preferred by contact hitters.

About the Brand

Sam Bat grew out of careful research and a thorough knowledge of eastern hardwoods. It also developed from a simple question by Bill MacKenzie, then of the Colorado Rockies: "We're just breaking too many bats. Do you think you could come up with an answer to that?"  The solution was fairly obvious. But the answer led to a pile of work and a crash course on bats. The reading list ranged from "The Physics of Baseball", "The Rules of Major League Baseball", "219 Patents on Baseball Bats" to "The Trees of Canada, Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers". There was also the search for wood which, for carvers and lovers of wood is never ending..

Living in and near Ottawa was a huge advantage in developing the Sam Bat concept. It's a researcher's dream centre: home of the Canadian patent library, two first rate universities, the Wood Council, the Canadian Forest Research Centre, the National and other extensive Libraries - all in the centre of the richest deciduous forest of North America.

However, sifting through the mountains of information - especially reading 219 U.S. patents - was painfully tedious. Perhaps Sam Bat hadn't been invented because no one had ever had the heart to turn one after this task. In fact, simply going by patent law, ash would be the only choice.

Developing the business end was also time-consuming. Then there was the task of translating maple (a much more dense wood than ash) into a workable model with the accepted range of bat lengths and weights.  One thing was sure: Sam Bat were determined to come up with a line of bats that would be more than adequate to deal with the needs of major league baseball.

Designed and Produced in Canada
The Original Maple Bat Corporation began operations in February 1997, and is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Our corporate purpose is to introduce a new wooden baseball bat to Major League Baseball. Since our first year we have come a long way to achieving this goal. Since prototype testing in 1996 we realized that we had a bat that was tougher and will last longer than the ash bat traditionally in use. It is our goal to provide the best maple we can buy for use in our Sam Bats.

Canadian Maple
We make our bats from sap and better Canadian maple, the best grade available. It is kiln dried to a moisture content of 7% - 9%. The specific gravity is 63%. The selection of sugar maple allows us to model our bats extremely close to other wood bats. We are familiar with most models of wooden bats that are commonly in use.

Sam Bat: The Logo
You don't fool around with the word bat – baseball or otherwise – without a fair amount of fun. It was kitchen table nonsense talk of the first order: about a natural sense of radar and, of course, about the idea itself: "It flies!"  It led to the need for a symbol.  If the name was to be Sam Bat, there seemed only one conclusion: it had to be a picture of the "little devil" itself.
Artist Nathan Holman, Sam's brother, came up with the bat design over the phone one evening to Sam. He said he'd put it on paper right away. It was a good design: clean and simple. Nathan's bat picture (with wonkey eyes cut out by Nathan's daughter, Laura) remained the same. Its strong, unique design should be visible from the furthest bleachers – or the smallest living room TV. More than attractive, it gives Sam Bat its new and youthful identity as what will undoubtedly be dubbed the best baseball bat in the world.

The Challenge...
From the beginning, there was no question about their market. They knew they would come up with a standard that would be universal to baseball, starting with the big leagues. The result is one of the prettiest and yet meanest baseball bats in the world. We suggest to the professional player that they provide us with a profile of a bat he is currently using. Yes, it can have a crack. We will turn a Sam Bat that he will use and enjoy.

We dare anyone to challenge this the only way that really counts: by putting Sam Bat to the test.
