The main difference between the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112 and the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX112 would be the hitting surface. The 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL7MX112 will have an extended barrel that will help improve the overall balance of the bat and will allow for a slightly larger sweet spot as well.

COMBAT did not really specifically differentiate much between their bats as they really specialized in all bats being made in the one-piece, all-composite design. However, some individuals have remarked that they feel the MAXUM has the longer barrel length while the Vigor bats feel a little more end-loaded than the MAXUMS. As well, the bats differ in their paint scheme.

Both feature one piece fully composite designs. Choosing between one or the other would just come down to personal preference. They are very similar performance wise.

At the minimum, I would recommend allowing for at least 150-200 hits before expecting see full performance off of this 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL112). That being said, some individuals report not seeing full performance until a few days after use begins and sometimes even a week or two after use begins.

Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend looking to a 29" bat. I would make the suggestion of getting this 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL112) in the 29"/17 oz size. I do not think you would need to go after that smaller 27"/17 oz size of bat. As well, I think you guys would be happy with the performance you would get off this VG2SL112.

For a player who is 13-15 and is 5'6" and 105 lbs, we would recommend getting a 31 inch bat but not in a drop -12 like the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112. For someone who is in 7th grade we would recommend getting a drop -8 bat and in 8th grade a -5 bat. This will help ease the transition that a player will encounter when they get into high school and have to swing a -3 BBCOR model.

There is not going to be a difference between the -12 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112 and the -10 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL110 other than the weight. A stronger player would benefit from adding the weight to increase distance on their hits and a smaller player would benefit from the lighter size to increase swing speed.

The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112 would not be legal for use in Little League Intermediate (50/70) division as the barrel is composite. Rules state that only composite barrel bats that are BBCOR approved (-3 length to weight ratio) would be eligible. If one wants to use a drop -12 bat then the barrel would have to be alloy.

My son is currently 8 years old. He will be 9 in June. His height is 53-54 inches and weight approx 64 lbs. All the bat charts recommend a 29 inch bat however his coaches seem to think 28 is the longest he should get. With this drop weight I think he would be fine but don't want to get him too big of a stick. Also, I don't plan to buy him a new bat every year. I would like the bat to last next year as well. Based on his height and weight the charts would recommend a 29 inch bat. With that said, these charts do not know the player's swing like his coaches would and so if they are recommending a 28 inch bat then that is what we would recommend doing. For his age, a drop -12 bat would be the best in terms of allowing for a comfortable swing as well as giving him a chance to drive the ball. Starting in 2018 all youth bats will have to feature the new USABat stamp. The current bats feature a BPF 1.15 and USSSA stamp. Essentially these bats will not be allowed for the vast majority of leagues when 2018 rolls in. The LS Catalyst is another great bat that is similar to the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112 as both are one-piece composite bats with balanced swing weights. Based on the fact that either bat would more than likely be a one year bat, we would recommend purchasing the bat at the lower price point.

The term "Senior League" is synonymous with "Youth Big Barrel" and is a bat that should be used by players 7-10 years of age. Yes it does. . To properly break in the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL112), we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work our way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings.

The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -12 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL112 is not USA Baseball certified. As well, COMBAT does not have any bats that will be USA Baseball compliant. On another note, there is not a USA Baseball certified bat in a 30/18 with a 2 5/8" barrel currently on the market. At this time a bat that is 30/18 will feature a 2 1/4" barrel diameter if it features the USA Baseball stamp.
