Description

This Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat is similar to that of the CAT 5 and CAT 6, only double the power! You are really going to scare some people if you come to the plate with this bat. Marucci has done a fantastic job of upping the ante from year to year and improving on an already masterful design. One of the main differences from last years CAT 6 to this CAT 7 is the new and improved AZ4X Alloy that dramatically improves durability and strength. Additionally, the optimized barrel design is more responsive and offers a sweet spot that is twice as large in comparison to the CAT 6. Through Marucci's engineer's extensive research and consultation with their player advisory board made up of big leaguers, they determined that one of the most common complaints among amateur baseball players is vibration in the hands. The brand-new AV2 Knob, also known as the second generation anti-vibration knob, offers a much better feel and remarkably less vibrational feedback in players' hands. Furthermore, the proven ring-free barrel technology continues to produce unmatched performance with absolutely no 'dead' spots. The combination of these new features results in a traditional, one-piece, all alloy, best balanced, most forgiving, sweetest feeling, and hardest hitting bat available.

The Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 features a -8 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the USSSA 1.15 BPF certification. Also, Marucci is backing this monster of a bat with a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Marucci: Honor The Game! Be the talk of the town and make sure to get your own CAT 7 today with fast, free shipping.

Very Happy Matthew parent

Pros: My son has always used Easton bats, but it was time to switch to a -8 and his hitting coach recommended this bat. He loves it.

Cons: None so far. Some people have made comments about the grip, looking at it I would say for sure you wouldn't use this without batting gloves. No issues using batting gloves though.

BRING BACK THE CAT 5 Mason parent

Pros: This bat has a balanced feel that is good for smaller kids or contact hitters.

Cons: The pop is not great. With all the hype surrounding this bat, I was expecting Cat 5 like performance. It's just not there. The "PING" sound is obnoxious. The white grip tape does not hold up very well- changing to 1.8mm Lizard Skin will make your son happier. I gave 3 stars for durability because we just have not had it long enough to know. Overall, it's just an okay bat. I would not recommend it. I will try to sell it or strictly use it as a batting cage bat.

Great bat in the small drop 8 Alloy bat space Big Daddy Frank parent

Pros: Son just turned 10 and is 4' 8, 90 lbs. He is in transition to drop 8'and needed alloy for colder days. The drop 8 alloy space is small but was aware that Marucci makes balanced bats. Purchased 30 inch drop 8. 1st batting session with trainer and team was impressive. Bat speed fast, no transition effect of 2 extra ounces, no stinging hands, grip has cushion feel, pop good, and ping is super loud. My son loves the loud sound.

Cons: Parents may not like the loud ping but most kids do.

Over Hyped Adam parent

Pros: The -8 has a balanced feel that swings smooth.

Cons: My son dented 3 Marucci 2 5/8 Hex Alloy Bats in the matter of 3 weeks. After the having the 3rd for only 2 days and denting it Marucci recommended sending me the Cat 7 -8. My son does not like this bat, the ball comes off the bat with very little pop. My son is 5'1" and 90lbs. He is a very good contact hitter that can normally drive the ball but not with this bat.

Great bat, great service from Justbats SoCal baseball dad parent

Pros: Bought 29" for 8yo playing club. He says it feels lighter than his composite Easton drop 10. He likes the balance and likes the annoying ping sound it makes when you square one up.

Cons: Not bats fault but this will not be legal come 1/1/18 for Little League, Pony, etc. It is and WILL continue to be legal for tournament / club play.

Ridiculous! C. Eighmey parent

Pros: I have never given a product review because I am generally too lazy and uninspired by whatever I have purchased, but I had to come back here and provide an update on this bat. A little background - my son plays 13U and is a fairly good ball player. He has hit several dingers over 225' fences and has been swinging an Easton MAKO Torq (30" drop 10) for the past 2 seasons, with good results. He needed something longer and a little heavier going forward, so we looked around and settled on the 32" drop 8 CAT 7 bat which arrived in the mail 2 days ago. Last night was his first game using the bat (with great anticipation) and on his FIRST SWING he hit the ball harder and farther than I have seen him hit it before - one bounce off the 280' fence on the fly. Next at bat he drove a frozen rope over the center fielders head off the fence again - this bat is AMAZING, so much POP!

Cons: None - other than every kid on the team wanting to use it. Haven't had it very long, so can't comment on durability.

My 10-Yr Old Loves His Homerun Hitting Marucci Karen parent

Pros: Had to update my 10-yr old son's bat as we were behind on our bat transitions. We ended up moving from a -12 29/17 Combat to the Marucci Cat 7 -8 30/22. I was really worried that it was going to be a really big transition. But no need at all. In my son's 2nd day with the bat (in a tourney no less), he hits a home run with it! Needless to say...we feel we are definitely getting our money's worth!

Cons: Have heard that aluminum bats will ding and dent more easily. So...worried about that. Only time will tell.

Pros: Another team had this bat as we watched their batting practice. Their kids were ripping the ball. My kid asked to step in and try. His hits instantly went 20-30 feet farther than his dead bat. I bought one that night and now all the kids on our team are using it. The drop 8 feels like a drop 10.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

When is the Marucci CAT 7 going to be released? Glenn
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is set to be released for shipment on 7/15/16.
Marcus
Will this have a similar feel & balance to the swing of the 2016 Cat 6 - 8? Very balanced, borderline handle loaded (Great tool for a smaller kid with tremendous hand speed). EC23
Yes the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 will be very similar to the 2016 CAT 6 Senior League Baseball Bat. They are both going to be very balanced bats. The main difference is the Cat 7 will have a little big bigger barrel and a new and improved aluminum, the AZ4X Alloy.
Carter
Is there a huge difference between a -10 and a -8? Particularly from a 30" -10 to a 30" -8? tjs
A -8 length to weight ratio will be 2 ounces heavier than a -10. It will depend on a player's personal strength, but typically the 2 ounce difference is not drastically noticeable. Generally, 11-13 year old players use a -8 length to weight ratio.
Angelique
I am looking for a big barrel bat for my 9 yr old son. He is 4'7" and 65 lbs. I am looking for the bat and size that will give him the most pop with a 2 3/4" barrel. Would you recommend this bat? RALPH TURNAGE
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a bat in the 29" length. This bat won't have a 2 3/4" barrel diameter. The diameter will be a little smaller at 2 5/8". If you were interested in this bat, I would note that it is going to feature a -8 length-to-weight ratio, which would cause a 29" bat to have a 21 oz weight to it. If you were okay with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter and your player could handle the 21 oz weight of the 29" model, this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) would be a bat to consider.
Ben
Do you offer a 30" -3 in the Cat 7? auburnjoe
Unfortunately Marucci does not produce the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC7 in a 30" 27 oz. size. The smallest model that is available is 31" 28 oz.
Angelique
Is this bat one piece? Nick
Yes, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is going to be an one piece alloy bat.
Carter
How does this bat compare to the Marucci Black -8 bats? Tim
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is going to feature the new AZ4X alloy for increased performance and durability and the AV2 knob which keeps reduces negative vibration. It will also feature a larger sweet spot when compared to the Marucci Black.
Jake
Can you tell me if this bat would be legal for the Little League Intermediate Division? Brian
This 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) will be legal for use in the Intermediate Division due to its alloy barrel material, 2 5/8" barrel and USSSA 1.15 BPF certification.
Ben
Is the CAT 7 USSSA approved? I have looked over the pictures and do not see the stamp. Dusty
Yes, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is USSSA certified. The stamp is located just above the grip tape on the reverse side of the bat that is in the image
Jason
My son is a contact hitter. Would this be a good bat for him? Is it balanced or end loaded? TC
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) would definitely be a good option for a contact hitter and it is going to be a balanced bat.
Carter
My son is 12 and needs a new bat for middle school (he is about 5'5" and 125 lbs). Most recently he used a 30"/20 oz MAKO. I was looking at the Louisville Slugger 916, Slugger 716 and the Marucci CAT 7. (1) What size should I get? (2) Which one will perform better for him? php
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation that you guys get a 32" model of this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) as long as you feel that you can handle the resulting 24 oz weight. If you were comparing this bat, the Prime 916 (SLP9168) and the Select 716; I would recommend either this CAT 7 or the Prime 916. The reason I would suggest those two bats is because they both are made in the -8 length-to-weight ratio and the Select 716 is not made in the -8 length-to-weight ratio. Both this CAT 7 and the Prime 916 are great bats and your decision may come down to the style of bat you prefer the most: the one-piece, all-alloy design of the CAT 7 or the two-piece, all-composite design of the Prime 916.
Ben
My son is almost 8. He is 75 pounds and 4 feet 7 inches. He used a friend's Marucci big barrel bat during All Stars and loved it. I am going to surprise him with one for Christmas. What size do you recommend? C
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 29" model in the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Jason
What would be the difference besides price for a 5'2" 100 12 yo playing u13 next summer in the CAT 7 and the Prime 917? Vho
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is going to be a one piece aluminum bat while the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP9178) is going to be a three piece fully composite design. They are going to offer very different feels. Whether someone prefers a one piece vs a multi piece bat, or aluminum or composite is going to come down to personal preference.
Carter
What is suggested bat size for 5'2" & 105 lbs? Joe
For someone of your size we would recommend getting the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 31 inch 23 ounce model.
Cameron
Is this bat legal for Little League Junior division? rob
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be legal for use in Junior League division of Little League. Rules states that max barrel size allowed is 2 5/8" in diameter and if the barrel is made from alloy then a player can use whatever drop they would like; if barrel is composite then it would have to be BBCOR certified (-3 length to weight ratio).
Cameron
My son is 5'3" 145 lbs and is 10 yrs old (he will be 11 Sept 1st, 2017). He has been swinging MAKO XL 31/21 (-10) and Marucci 31/22 (-9) really well throughout last season in 10u and played up 11u (we play a lot). Wondering if I should go up to 32/24 on this bat or keep him at 31/23? Lou
At his current size, 31" would be the recommended size for the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
My son is 4'5" 100 lbs and he has the CAT 6 27" 17oz right now and it is getting too short. What would be your recommendation for him? I would like to stay with Marucci but just wondering if the CAT 7 28" 20oz would be ok for him. wahoo baseball
Based on your player's size, I would suggest the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 29" 21 oz. size.
Logan
My son is 4'8" and weighs 80 lbs. What size bat should he purchase? Hank Whitaker
Based on his size, we would suggest the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 29" 21oz. size.
Logan
My son is 11 years old. He is 4'11" and about 120 lbs. Currently using a 30 inch bat. He is wanting a CAT 7. What do you recommend for him? parker
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 30 inch bat. Since your son is only 11 we would not recommend the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 as this bat is a drop 8 and is typically better suited for a player who is in 7th grade. For a player who is 11, a drop 10 bat is a better fit. Since the CAT 7 is not featured in a drop 10 model one would need to consider other options.
Cameron
My son is 10 years old, almost eleven. He is 5 ft tall and 85-90 pounds. His batting coach is telling me to get him a 29 in 21 oz bat. His coach played for the Braves so I'm inclined to listen but you all sell bats for a living so what's your advice. Bryan
We would recommend a 30" bat based on his height and weight, although you could go up or down 1" depending on things like his strength, how far he stands from the plate, whether he chokes up or not, etc. We can't recommend the weight of the bat because we haven't seen him swing and don't know other things like his strength, etc.
Kyle J.
Do you recommend this bat the CAT 7 for a 4 feet 11 inches 12 year old 7th grader? Curious buyer
Yes, I would recommend the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) for a 12 year old seventh grader.
Carter
What length/weight would you recommend for a 4 feet 10 inches, 80 ish pounds 7th grader? Or, if you don't recommend this bat what bat? Alan
I would suggest the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 30" 22oz. size for your player.

I see a lot of reviews saying the pop just isn't there. Can you compare the Omen or MAKO to this bat? My son uses 30/20 Omen. jim
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) has been one of the best reviewed bats around. The Cat 7, as well as the Cat 6 and 5, have received many great reviews. It is actually one of our best reviewed bats on the website. It is a very popular bat and a very high performing bat. It is going to be a different bat than the Mako or the Omen through. Both the Omen and the Mako are going to feature two piece fully composite designs one the Cat 7 features a one piece fully aluminum design. It will have a much stiffer feel than the Omen or the Mako. Performance wise all of these are going to be relatively comparable.

What length and weight do you recommend for a 4'1", 58 lb. 10U travel ball player? KT
Based on your players height and weight, we would recommend getting a 28 inch model. The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is a -8 length to weight ratio and for someone that is playing 10U it would be too heavy (generally recommend a drop 8 bat for someone in 7th grade). For a 10U player it is best to get either a 28/16 or 28/18 as these sizes would be easier for the player to handle; my suggestion would be 28/16.
Cameron
My son is 12 yo, 5'3" and 140 lbs. Wanting to get a new bat. Would you recommend a 31/23 or 32/24? Contact hitter with power. Patrick
It all depends on what the player's most previous weight of bat was. If he was using a -10 bat most recently and not having any issues with the weight (say 21 ounces) then it could be conceivable that a 31/23 would work for him. Based on his height and weight alone, we would recommend the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
My 11 yo 4'11" at 110 lbs uses a DeMarini zen 30/20 for his travel club. He will also play LL Intermediate this spring and fall. Looking at both LL seasons, your bat guide, and his growth projection as he begins middle school, would the Cat 7 in 31" be appropriate? Mark
If your player is allowed to use a 2 5/8" barrel, then yes, the 31" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be appropriate, especially if you expect him to grow a little.
Logan
My son is 5'11" and 85 lbs. What size bat in the CAT 7 would you recommend for my son who will be 12 this May. MM baseball
I just wanted to check and make sure we had his height and weight correct before we sized him up. Your player is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 85 pounds, correct?
Ben
I'm starting a 50-70 baseball league and wonder which bat I should get. I know it has to be 2 5/8". Would this bat be allowed? Mario
Yes, this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) would be allowed within the 50/70 Division of Little League baseball for the 2017 season. It has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, alloy barrel material and USSSA 1.15 BPF certification. Those features would allow it for use in the 50/70 division this year. However, this bat will not be legal in Little League baseball when 2018 begins. The reason is because in 2018, Little League is requiring bats to feature USABat certification and this bat will not have that certification.
Ben
Is this bat legal for Babe Ruth Baseball? Jess
If you are under the 13-15 age group the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) will not be legal in Babe Ruth Baseball.
Carter
My son is 10 years old (11 in July). He is 4'9" and 91 lbs. What size is recommended? He's a strong kid. I'd consider him a power hitter. I'd also like him to use this bat for 2 seasons (30-40 games each season /not sure if this is possible). Any advice? phil
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) in the 30" length. As long as you feel that he can handle the 22 oz weight of that 30" bat, I think this CAT 7 will be just fine for use. As well, I think going with a -8 will be advantageous as it will give him something he can grow with for a longer period of time (if you are feeling comfortable, I might even consider the 31" bat).
Ben
Would this bat be a good transfer from the Louisville Select 715 29 19 oz? What would be the differences and if it would be a good bat what size should I get? I am 4'10" and 78 pounds. cohen
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is a one piece alloy bat, so it will be a bit more stiff than the Select 715, but is definitely a great bat. Based on your size, I would recommend a 30" 22 ounce Cat 7.
Logan
My son is 8 years old and is 4'4" and 65 lbs. He currently is swinging a 27/17. What bat would you recommend to use for the next 1-2 years Chad Cliburn
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 29/19 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBAHAY10).
Carter
My son is 12 and is 5'7 and 120 lbs. He loves balanced bats. Would you recommend the -8 Hex Connect or the -8 Cat 7 in a 30 22? Busted Chirp
Both the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 and the Hex Connect are going to be balanced, but the Cat 7 would be slightly more balanced with its one-piece design.
Logan
My son is 13 years old (6' and 171 lbs) swinging the 2016 DeMarini CF8 in 32/22 and I was looking at getting him into a drop 8. How does the CAT 7 compare to CF8? Adam
This 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) will be a one-piece, all-alloy bat while the CF8 is a two-piece, all-composite bat. At connection the feel will be different on the bats as the CF8 will offer quite a bit of barrel flex and the CAT 7's barrel will be stiffer. Neither feature is more advantageous, it just comes down to the player's preference. For your player, I definitely think he is ready to swing the 32"/24 oz size of this Cat 7.
Ben
I am looking for a -8 for a 12 year old. He's 4'8" and 85 pounds. He's been swinging a 29 drop 11 Mako. I would like to go up to a 30 drop 8. Do you think that is the correct size or do you recommend staying with a 29 drop 8? rick
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 29" model of the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78. However, your player is not far off from the 30" being the suggested size if you wanted to bump up to that.
Jason
My son is 5 ft tall and 112 lbs. What size CAT 7 would you recommend? Currently swinging a 31/21 CF8. Can't decide between the 30 or 31"? Ron
Based on your player's height and weight, a 30" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be the typical size. However, since he is used to swinging a 31" bat, I would suggest going with that size moving forward.
Logan
My sons 5" tall and 112 lbs. He is 11 with his birthday coming in a few weeks. He currently uses a 2016 CF8 31/21. Trying to decide between the 30"/22 or 31/23 CAT 7. Which would you suggest? Just worried about losing to much swing speed going up 2 oz on the 31" compared to what he is using now. Ron
Based on his current height and weight, we suggest the 30" model of the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78. The player is just a few inches off from the 31" being the suggested size for the player. However, it probably is not worth moving up to the 31" model just yet though if you are worried at all about his swing speed slowing down.
Jason
Which bat do you recommend between 2017 Mizuno Generation -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17GEN8 31/23 or 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in the same size? My son is 11 and 5'3" 105 lbs. Jeff
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be the more popular bat of the two, but you would see similar performance from each bat. Both are well balanced alloy bats, so it would come down to the preference of your player. Based on his height and weight, the 31" 23 ounce size would be appropriate.
Logan
My 12 yr old son is 5'11" and 125 lbs. What size bat would best suit him? Bobby
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 32/24, assuming the player can handle 23 ounces with ease.
Cameron
I am 5'1" and 89 Ibs. What size do you suggest. Spencer
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
I am looking for a youth big barrel with an aluminum or alloy barrel. Do you have any suggestions besides the Marucci CAT 7? Spencer
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is going to be one of the more popular alloy bats on the market. If seeking other recommendations on drop -8 bats with alloy barrels we would recommend reaching out to us directly.
Cameron
My son is a 4'11" 80 lb 11 yr old? We are undecided between 29, 30 or 31" CAT 7 for travel ball this year. Thom
Based on your sons height and weight I would recommend a 29"/21 ounce 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78).
Carter
I am a 6'0", 130 lbs., and 12 year old. What size bat would I need? damon
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 32" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78). For more information on sizing, you can check out our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tessa
My son is 5'6 135 lbs. He's 11 yrs. old but cracking and denting bat after bat. Would this be a good bat for him? David Bull
Yes, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is a great bat for your son. It is a very durable bat with a great amount of pop.
Sean
My son is 12 going to turn 13 in June. He is currently swinging a Marucci 29 inch 20 ounce. What length would you recommend for him with this CAT 7 model? PLAYER
For a player that is turning 13 we would recommend the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78. As for the length to get, this will be based on the player's height as well as weight. With this information we can give a better recommendation.
Cameron
What has a lighter swing weight the -8 CAT 7 of the -8 CF Zen? Spencer
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would feature a slightly lighter swing weight than the CF Zen.
Logan
My son is 11, almost 12, 4'10 and about 105. Which size and weight should he use? mary
For the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 I would recommend the 30 inch 22 oz. model.
Trevor
I'm 12, 4'8 and 80 pounds, but I have been swinging a 31 drop ten big barrel MAKO with ease. What size should I get? bob
Based on your height and weight a 30'' is what our suggested bat length. If you are swinging the 31'' fine I would recommend sticking with the 31'' for the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Max
Is this bat a drop 3? kristian
No the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is not a drop 3.
Max
I am 5'3" and 95 lbs. What size and weight should I get for this bat? I was thinking the 32" model because I've used that in a game and it works well for me. And should I be using a Senior League bat? caiden
Based upon your height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) in the 31"/23 oz size. However, since you have used a 32"/24 oz size and done well, that is the better option as long as you feel comfortable using that size. Overall, this is a great bat for a player that is between 11 and 13 years and is preparing to move to high school -3 bats in the near future.
Ben
My son is 11 years old (5 ft 1 inch; 105 lbs). He currently uses a 30/20 bat. For this drop 8 bat, is it recommended to stay at 30 or move to 31 (even though the same length of 30 is already 2 ounces heavier)? My son has been hitting great this season and I do not want to get too heavy of a bat. I am purchasing a bat for him to use in the fall and for winter training. lisa
Based on your sons height and weight and what you have told us about him I would recommend using a 30"/22 ounce 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78).
Carter
I am 11 years old, 5'3" and 110 lbs. What should I get? Mario
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
Does the cat 7 come in 2 3/4 -8 or -10 pistol
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat with a 2 3/4in barrel is only available in the -10 length to weight ratio.
Cade
How does the Marucci CAT 7 -8 compare with the DeMarini Voodoo Balanced -9? Zman
It would be hard to compare these two bats as the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is a one-piece all alloy model while the DeMarini Voodoo is a hybrid design (alloy barrel and composite handle). The DeMarini Voodoo will certainly be better equipped to reduce vibration from off-centered hits while the Marucci will potentially offer more power with the stiffer, one-piece design as well as extra ounce (-8 compared to a -9 with the Voodoo).
Cameron
What size do you think would best for me? I'm 4'11 and 94 pounds. Also is this bat balanced out of all the 2/58 barrels? I currently swing a Louisville Slugger 516. I need the bat to have a aluminium barrel. shshgd
I would recommend a 31'' 23 oz in the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78. The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 will be a very balanced swing weight and will be an all alloy construction
Max
Is this bat USSSA approved? The player is 12U. special k
Yes, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is approved for USSSA and features the USSSA 1.15 BPF certification.
Jason
My son currently uses a 2017 Louisville Slugger Catalyst (-12) 31"/19 oz. He is 5'2", 118 lbs and has swung an orange Mako XL 30"/20 oz with ease. His hitting coach suggested going to a 30"/20 oz balanced bat. Would the 30"/22 oz be too heavy for him? L
The weight of a bat is based on the player preference. A -8 could be too heavy. However, if he thinks that -8 size is easy to swing, it will prep him for the leagues to come in the future. if he feels ready to swing a 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78), he should be okay.
Mick
It says this bat is USSSA approved. However, one of your comments stated it would not meet standards for 2018. Is this correct? excajunlee
This 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is indeed USSSA approved. It will be good for all levels of USSSA play in 2018 except for 14U (in 14U, it will be required to swing -5 USSSA bat or a -3 BBCOR bat). That being said, this bat will not conform to the new USABat certification rules that are being implemented in 2018 for Little League, Dixie, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken, Pony, DIzzy Dean and AABC.
Ben
Comparing the Marucci Cat7 and F5, it seems they would have a similar feel but the F5 is -10 for more bat speed, fatter barrel for bigger sweet spot, and $50 cheaper. What's the advantage of the Cat7? Thanks. Ryan
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78) is very similar but it is a bit more balanced. Also, the Cat 7 has a more advanced alloy allowing it to be more durable and perform better than the F5.
Mick
My son is 4'10" and around 88 lbs. He was swinging a Easton Mako last year (29" 19 oz). I wanted to get him a 30" 20 oz for this year but he really likes the CAT7. The closest is a 30" 22 oz. Thoughts on the weight increase. He is a line drive, gap hitter. Thanks. Greg
The difference in weight can be a jump. However, he will eventually have to adjust to a -3 when he gets to high school and college. I think that going to drop 8 will be good idea. The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is a great bat and very well balanced, it will be a great transition bat to the drop 8.
Mick
My son is going to be 11 years old. He is 4'8" and weighs roughly 65 pounds. He is a good contact hitter, but needs a good anti-vibration bat? Should we get this bat? big guy
Based upon your player's height and weight, I might recommend considering this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) in the 29"/21 oz size. As well, this bat has an anti-vibration knob to it that is pretty effective in limiting vibration. Overall, I would recommend this bat really highly if you can get a size that will good for use by your player.
Ben
My 11 year old is 5'8" and 110 lbs. He swung a 31" drop 10 last year. He wants to move up to a drop 8 this year. Should he stay at 31" or go up to a 32"? Erik
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
My son is 50" and he weighs 55 pounds. I was wondering if I shall leave him with the Cat 7 27" 17 oz.? Alex Aguilar
Based on your player's height and weight, a 27" 17 ounce Cat 7 would work, but we would suggest moving to a 28" bat. At that size, I would suggest taking a look at the 2018 Marucci Hex Alloy 2 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHA2X10.
Logan
My son is turning 10 years old in January. This is our first time on a travel team. He is 4'4" and weighs 63 lbs. We bought a 2018 Easton Ghost in a 28" length. He is having trouble with it. His swing is not as fast. What bat do we need? Wonder
If you guys got the 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18GX10) in the 28"/18 oz size and it feeling a little heavy, my first suggestion might be to choke up on the bat for the current time being while he gets used to the bat. Choking-up will make the bat feel lighter for him. However, if you feel that he needs something with a larger length-to-weight ratio, I might recommend looking for a bat with USA certification and -11 length-to-weight ratio.
Ben
I'm 13 and 4'11". I currently have a Combat MAXUM 30"/20 oz size. I make contact easily and I can hit the ball hard, but it doesn't travel that far. Would this be a good bat? Also, what size and weight should I get? Tony
At 13 years old, I would recommend looking to something a little heavier than a 30"/20 oz bat. I might suggest maybe looking to this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) in the 30"/22 oz or 31"/23 oz size. Getting a heavier bat will prevent you from having to make a drastic change to a BBCOR (-3) bat when you get into high school.
Ben
I am 12, 5'3" and 115 pounds. I play extremely competitive travel baseball. I have used a -10, 31" Easton S3 in the past. Which would you recommend; the Marucci Cat 7 -8, or the Easton XL3 -8? Sunshine
Both are great bats. If you are a power hitter, the XL3 would be the better bat due to it being end loaded. If you are a contact hitter and prefer a balanced bat, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) would be the better bat.
Mick
Is this bat marked for 2018 13 year old Babe Ruth play? Will it be allowed? GDB
Unfortunately, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 will not be allowed for play in Babe Ruth in 2018. The 13 year old division will require the bat to be either USA certified or BBCOR certified and this bat is neither.
Jason
My son is 10, 4'5" and 69 pounds. He currently uses the DeMarini Vexxum NVS 28" -10.5. He does not like the weight at the top end of the bat. He likes balanced bat. Would the CAT 7 28" -8 work for him? He hit well with the DeMarini Voodoo 27"-10 but it's all dented with only a season of play. Thanks. JJ
Based on your player's size, a 28" bat would work. If you feel as though he can handle the 2 ounces of added weight, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is very well balanced and easy to swing.
Logan
Is this bat USSSA compliant for the 2018 11U season? CD
Yes, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 features the USSSA BPF 1.15 Certification which is needed for the 2018 season.
Carter
My son's travel league is not adapting the new USA standards this year. However I'm worried that the tournaments will have this requirements so wondering if the USA standard bats have considerably less pop? Steve
There certainly will be a decrease in performance with the new USA bats as they are designed to play more like that of a wood bat.
Tyler
How do I know if a bat is a drop 5? When ordering I only see the oz and length of the bat. Also, my son is 5'4" and 120 lbs. He is going into high school next year and needs to be swinging a drop 5. Looking at getting him a CAT 7 senior league bat for Christmas but need help with the sizing. Two two
You can determine the length to weight ratio of the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78, and any other bat, by reading the bat features section. As well, most bats will give an indication of the length to weight ratio in the product heading. For example, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is a drop 8 length to weight ratio thanks to the designation at the end of the product code (MSBYC78). As for someone entering high school, a player will have to use a BBCOR model which is a drop 3 length to weight ratio. This would be the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC7.
Cameron
What's the difference between the fat tapered grip and the straight grip on the CAT 7 series? mike
The straight grip on the CAT 7 series will be featured on all Cat 7 Senior League bats (including this 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat [MSBYC78]) except for the Cat 7 -5 Bat (MSBC75). However, the tapered grip will not add a performance edge to a bat. It just offers a new feel on the grip of the bat for a player.
Ben
Do you have thoughts on the Cat 7 -8 or Marucci Hex connect -8? Hoping to generate a bit more power than Easton S2 -10. Andy
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 and the 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHCX8 are both very popular options. The big differences here are the construction of each bat. The Cat 7 will be a one-piece alloy while the Hex Connect will be a two-piece composite. I would suggest going with what you are more comfortable with.
Dan
Is this a big barrel bat? Looking for my son who is 5'10" tall an 150 lbs. It's our first year of travel ball so we are not use to the big barrel bats. baseball mom
This bat has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. The term "Big Barrel" can mean either 2 5/8" or 2 3/4" depending on who you ask, so you may want to find out more information about what you're looking for before purchasing.
Kyle J.
I"m 11 years old, 5"1" tall and 90 pounds. What size of this bat do you recommend for me? Alex
We would recommend a 30" or 31" length for your size.
Kyle J.
My son is 12, 5'9" tall, and 115 lbs. He is playing middle school, league ball, and travel ball. Needs a new travel bat. League is 31/23. Middle School is 31/28. He has been using 31/21 with a 2 3/4" barrel. In travel he wants a 32/24 with a 2 3/4 barrel. What would you recommend? He wants more bat speed than middle and travel with longer reach and larger barrel. wes
I think the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in a 32/24 would be a great option. However, this Cat 7 features a 2 5/8 barrel diameter. I would recommend the 2017 Marucci Hex Connect -8 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHCX8 for your player. We have it available in a 32/24 with a 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter. The two-piece design should help with bat speed and the extended barrel results in a bigger sweet spot.
Dan
I am 13 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall. What bat would you recommend? angel
At your age, the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be a great option. Based on your height, along with your age, I would suggest a 32" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
Is this bat USA approved Daniel
No, the drop 8 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) is not USA baseball approved. It features the USSSA 1.15 BPF certification for USSSA approval.
JP
My son is 12, 5'2" tall, and 160bs. He is playing middle school ball. He had been using a Easton Mako 31/21 in little league. He needs something in -5 or -8 and is coming from smaller barrel size. What do you recommend going with in this bat? tndinnc
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
Is the Marucci Cat 7 -8, 28"/20 oz model an end loaded bat? joe
No, the Marucci Cat 7 is a balanced model and swing weight.
Kyle J.
My son has a Cat 5 29 inch drop 10. He is an above average hitter with a great swing. He plays 10u. If I got him a drop 8 would that give him more pop or should I get him a drop 5 ? linedrives
I would not recommend any player of that age swing a drop 5 as it would like be too heavy. This 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would be the heaviest option I would recommend. With that being said, If your player is able to handle the weight then you will see a benefit from hitting with a heavier bat.
Tyler
Will this have more pop than a composite bat, or what should I buy for an above average hitter in 10u -11u? line drives
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 won't necessarily have more pop than composite bats, but is certainly our most popular and one of our highest rated models in that size. I would highly suggest the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Logan
Can this Cat 7 -8 bat be used in a batting cage? jasonb
Although the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 can be used in the batting cage, we do not recommend using it in the cages. This is because the balls used in most batting cages are more dense than a standard baseball and would provide an increased chance to dent the AZ4X alloy of the Cat 7.
Tyler
How would you compare the Marucci Hex alloy to the CAT 7? Kevovek76
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 and the 2018 Marucci Hex Alloy 2 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBHA2X10 are very similar bats in that both are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. The main difference between the two bats, besides the alloy that is being used, is the fact that the CAT 7 has the AV2 knob which will help reduce vibration from a player's off-centered hits.
Cameron
What is the difference between CAT 6 and CAT 7? KB
A new alloy was used in the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 compared to the CAT 6 thus giving the CAT 7 a lower swing weight feel for greater bat speed.
Cameron
Can I use this bat at a PG tournament? khajeh4
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 cannot be used as Perfect Game has adopted the USA bat standard. At this time, Marucci does not make a USA certified bat.

Looking for a decent cost effective Marucci bat for my 12 year old who is 4'11 and 115 lbs. and will be playing majors baseball this fall. Will this work? If so, what size would you recommend? Brian
The 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 would certainly be a great option for your player as long as he can handle the -8 length to weight ratio. Based on his height and weight, I would suggest a 30" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.

I'm 5'4" and 110 pounds Should get a 31' or a 32' since I'll continue to grow? George
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend getting the 31'' 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.
Tori
Would you recommend this bat or the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo? George
Honestly, both bats are excellent models and will perform very well. The only real difference is the Marucci Cat 7 is a one-piece, alloy model while the Voodoo is a two-piece, hybrid design, so go with whatever option you prefer in terms of feel.

I always laugh at these questions but I am stuck with my own. My son is growing like crazy. He is 5'8" and just turned 12. He used a 31 inch most of the year but I am now wondering if he should get a 32 inch. chill
If we know your son's weight we would be more than happy to let you know what size to get the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 in.

My son is 5 feet tall and 90 lbs. Should I go with a 30", which he uses now, or go up to 31"? Walt M
Based on his height and weight, a 30'' in the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 is the correct size. However, he is right on the border in needing to move up, so if he has been growing I would recommend going with a 31''.
Tori
My son is 5'8' and 150lbs. He swung a 31/26 and 31/23 most of last season. Playing 13U wondering if I should move to a 32? He has very long arms. Geno
Based on your player's specifications, I would only suggest moving to a 32" model of the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 if he is wanting to. I personally played at a very similar size and stayed with a 31" throughout my career. At that age, it becomes mainly player preference.

My 11 y.o. son is 4'9" and weighs 60 lbs. Would you recommend a 29 in. or 30 in. bat? He currently has a 29/19 Combat Vigor, but was considering going to heavier bat this year. Thoughts? Chris
Based on your player's height and weight, he is right on the verge of needing to go to a 30" bat. If he has been swinging the 29/19 Vigor well, and you feel he can handle a slightly heavier bat, I would go up to a 30" 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78.

How much pop does this bat have? Jim
Unfortunately, pop is not something that can be quantitatively measured. As a bat's performance will rely on the player's ability to provide the needed swing speed and make contact with the sweet spot. The one piece alloy construction of the Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 allows for great performance right out of the wrapper with no break in period. Some players can experience sting or vibration in the hands with mishits, this is common with all one piece alloy options.

What does the 29" weigh? John P
The Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78) features a drop 8 length to weight ratio. The 29" version of this bat will weigh 21 oz.

How is this bat comparable to the CAT 6 GEN2? My son likes the 2 5/8” barrels. But wonder if the CAT 6 GEN2 has new technology as it’s a newer version. Daniel
The Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78 replaced the CAT 6 model, which is the same as the CAT 6 GEN2 but without the red colorway. The CAT 7 features an updated alloy barrel for a more balanced swing weight as well as slightly better performance when compared to the CAT 6 and CAT 6 GEN2.

My son plays travel baseball. He is 4'11 and weighs 115 pounds. Last spring season he swung a 30 inch drop 12, 2 1/4 barrel size. He has great power for his age. Trying to find a bat for the upcoming fall season as well as next spring. Would you recommend the CAT 7 30/22 or 31/23? Ryan
Since your player is coming from a -12 bat most recently, we would not recommend a -8 bat like the Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBYC78. A better progression would be a -10. Something like the Marucci CAT 7 -10 Senior League Baseball Bat: MSBC7X10 in a 30/20 would be better.

My son is 14 and 5'6" and 105 lbs. He wants a Cat 7 BBCOR -8. Is this a good bat for him? Jill S.
Based on your player's height and weight, I would recommend a 31" length of this Marucci CAT 7 Senior League Baseball Bat (MSBYC78). This bat rates really well and I think your player will be happy with the performance he gets on it!
