What is the difference between S550 -8 and the $20 cheaper S450 -8 bat? The specs seem identical. Can't charge $20 for a different color scheme :) Chris

My grandson will be 14 in July, he is 5'9" and 145 lbs. I just bought him a 33"-30 oz bat which is good for slower pitchers but a little heavy for faster pitchers. Would you recommend a 32"-27 oz or a 32"-24 oz bat? grandpa
If he currently uses or is used to a -3 drop bat like the 33"/30 oz, then I would just go to a -5 drop bat like the 32"/27 oz to keep them somewhat similar in weight. It mostly comes down to personal preference however.

My son has been practicing all winter with a wood bat 33", -6 per the tape measure and weight scale. I can't decide from the [s450 - 32" - 8] or the [S650 - 32" - 5 ] because I've been reading that the Easton bats are docking 2 to 3 oz. over weight. A player will always benefit from swinging the heaviest bat as possible. Typically, a -8 is what would be recommended by the time a player enters 7th grade and then move up to a -5 for 8th grade. This is to help ease the transition to high school and BBCOR bats which are all -3 length to weight ratio. As for the true weight of the 2018 Easton S550 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S5508, this bat will come in at 1.6 ounces heavier, the 2018 Easton S450 -8 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S4508 at the same 1.6 ounces heavier and the 2018 Easton S650 -5 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18S6505 at roughly 0.3 ounces heavier.

This would be a good option, yes. Going from a -13 to a -8 is a bit of a jump, but if he can handle the added weight it should add plenty of power to his swing.
