OK Venom Rusty Parent

Pros: My 14 yr old daughter finally got to use her new Bustos-13 for the first time this weekend. She went 4 out of 4 at bats. When she hit the ball it travels hard & fast off Bustos. It has a very good 6 to 8 inch sweet spot on it new right out of the package. I would recommend to other parents & players.

Cons: None

Excellent bat, but..... James Coach

Pros: Has great pop! For the first time, my 8yr old daughter is sending balls into the air past the infield. Unbelievable actually, but it's happening. When she gets a good hit, I can definitely tell the difference.

Cons: Paint or clear coat finish is not up to par. After the first game, I noticed some significant webbing, or fracturing of the clear coat. I don't know what better way to describe it, but the finish of the clear coat. It hasn't seemed to affect the performance of the bat, so we're going to roll with it for now seeing it has a 1 year manufacture warranty.

Great value but.. Nichole Marlowe Parent

Pros: Bought this bat for my 13 year old daughter about a month ago. She loved the feel of the bat and we felt it would be a great fit for her.

Cons: Last weekend after using this bat in 3 tournament and a few practices the bat broke just above the handle during one of her at bats. The barrel flew out towards the pitcher! Luckily it stopped before it reached her and no one was injured. Very disappointed, I expected more from DeMarini.

Great Upgrade Mike Coach

Pros: My 10 yr old daughter upgraded from entry level aluminum to this. We tried some composite bats before deciding to stick to aluminum. She loves the feel and pop. She's always been a solid hitter, but with this she is hitting harder and longer consistently. Highly recommend this bat.

Cons: None so far, have had it for a month.

NIce bat but now pop JG Coach

Pros: My daughter loves the look and feel of this bat. It has drastically cut back on any sting and she makes great contact with the ball.

Cons: Even though she makes great contact...it has no pop. The balls are hit flat in the infield. The sweet spot much be about 1-inch wide. We originally thought that it needed to be broken in more. But, now after a season...we even tried to use it...her old cracked bat has more pop then this one.

Pros: Very cool looking bat and very light weight. Daughter loved the look

Cons: As stated in the title this bat has A LOT of sting. No matter if your holding it lightly or very tight this bat is going to sting your hands. I thought my little girl was exaggerating until I used it myself and man it stings.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My granddaughter will begin 12U travel softball. Is this a good bat for her? She will be 11 years old the end of December. She is 4'9" tall and weighs 101 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? Carolyn
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is a good option for younger fastpitch softball players, 7-9 year olds. For a player with the size specifications and age as described, we would recommend a 30" -10 option: DeMarini CF Zen -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXCFP19. However, if you feel as though your player is not strong enough for a -10, the DeMarini CF Zen also comes in 30" -11.
Daveron
Would this bat work for my daughter playing 8u. She's about 52” and 70lbs? momof3
Yes, the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would be a great option for your player.
Tyler
Is this a composite bat? B.M.
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 features Half and Half Technology, meaning it has a composite handle and an alloy barrel.
Logan
Is this bat end loaded or balanced? Angels Coach
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is balanced.
Tori
Would this bat be good for 10U? ob
Yes, the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would work well for a 10U player who needs a lighter bat.
Tori
My daughter is 10 1/2 years old, and she weighs 54 lbs and is 4'3" tall. Would this be a good bat? (She's not a strong hitter). Her coach recommends a 29. Rachelle Beaulieu
The DeMarini Bustos -13 is an excellent model for players looking for a very light-swinging bat.
Kyle J.
My daughter is 14 and stands 5'3" tall, weighing 110 lbs. Would you recommend this bat? Very lean build, not that muscular. Tony
This bat would be good for a player looking for a very light bat, however with its -13 drop it may not hold up to the faster velocity pitching she may face. It would probably work for her this year, but the older she gets the higher the risk of this bat not holding up. I would look for a -11 model at her age if you want a bat to last more than 1 year.
Kyle J.
My daughter is a lefty. Weighs 94 lbs and is 5'1". Smaller in size. Makes great contact and has occasional pop but not consistent pop. Needs a new stick for the New England HS softball season coming up when early season games are cold. Will this work? It's not a true composite is it? Phil
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would not be a good option for a high school player as this bat is more designed for someone 10 years of age or younger. A better option to consider would be the Slapper model from DeMarini. This bat is balanced and designed specifically for the smaller LHH's and features a two-piece all composite design.
Cameron
My daughter is a shy 10 year old. She is about 4'2" tall and weighs 71 lbs, what size do you recommend? maria
For her height and weight, we would probably recommend a 29" length of bat. As for the weight, this DeMarini Bustos -13 is one of the lightest models out there.
Kyle J.
My daughter is in her first year of 12U. She is 5'2" and 88lbs. Very scrawny! Would the Bustos be a good bat for her? If not, what would you recommend? Stephanie
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is normally recommended for players a bit younger than her, but I think since she is on the smaller side and probably needs a very lightweight bat, this would be a good choice for her.
Tori
Will this work for my 12 year old daughter? She is 5'4" tall and 106 pounds. She will be playing little league and middle school softball. Jill
This bat should work for her if she is wanting a very light bat. I would not suggest using this past age 14 or 15 however, as we generally see light bats such as this wear down rather quickly once the pitching velocities increase and they get close to high school.
Kyle
My daughter is 4'6" and around 70 lbs. She just turned 10 and I wanted to get a bat that would last 2 seasons (without breaking the bank as well). Would this be a decent option? Chuck
Based on your player's height and weight, the general length recommendation would be to get a 29" length bat. If you wanted something to last a couple seasons, I might recommend looking to a 30" bat. A 30" version of this bat will still weigh 17 oz and I think your player could most likely swing that weight just fine.
Ben
I am having a hard time finding if this bat is Little League approved. It is not on their list but similar bats are. Do you know if it is? Lindsey
This bat has the USSSA 1.20 BPF certification stamp so it is allowed for Little League Softball. You can find those rules at their website here: http://archive.littleleague.org/media/BatOKSBRule.htm.
Kyle
Can this bat be used if the league uses a pitching machine? Jessica
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is constructed for fastpitch softball, so it can be used with a pitching machine as well.
Logan
My daughter is 5'2 and 100-105 lbs. For cold weather is the drop -13 too light? She has last year's Bustos which is 31/18. Wondering if a 32/19 is worth it. Kevin
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is a bat best designed for a player who is between the ages of 6-10. Per your daughter's height and weight, a -11 bat would be our general recommendation. The DeMarini CF Zen -11 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXCFS19 may suit her better.
Cameron
My daughter is 11 years old, 4”11" and about 80 lbs. Would this be a good bat for her? Anne
Based on your player's height and weight, we would recommend a 31" length of a softball bat. As long as your player is wanting a lighter-feeling 18 oz bat, this DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTDXBFP19) would be a solid model to consider for a purchase.
Ben
Can I use this for slow pitch adult softball? I’m a 23 year old female and finding a hard time finding a slow pitch softball bat for my weight. Mostly are made for men. I need 32 inch and weight maybe 19-22? Melissa
Unfortunately this DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is not a good bat for slowpitch softball. This bat is designed for a much younger player (10 years and younger).
Cameron
My daughter is 9, gonna be 10 in June. She is 4’7" and weighs 75 pounds. Would this be good bat for her? Scott
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is a good bat for a younger and smaller player that needs a lighter bat to be better able to control the barrel head of the bat. Per your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend looking into a 30 inch bat.
Cameron
Looking for a bat for my daughter playing 16U, 32in 110lbs, based on QA this bat would not work. What will you recommend, Half and Half or Composite? Thanks. Tracey Jones
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would not be recommended for a player in 16U leagues. The DeMarini CF Zen -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXCFP19 would be a better option bat for your player.
Daveron
My daughter is 4'5" and 68 lb and 8 years old. Very hard hitter and fast bat; she is using a 30" 19.5 oz -11.5 now but no pop off the bat. What do you recommend? Nevelle
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 is a good option for a younger player in need of a lighter bat. Certainly an 8 year old would benefit from the length to weight ratio of this bat. Since your daughter is not having great success with her -11.5 ounce model you want want to consider looking at a -12 bat; this all depends on how fast her bat speed is with the -11.5 bat. With her height and weight taking into the equation, a 30 inch bat would be best. Another possibly bat option would be the DeMarini Uprising -12 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXUPF19.
Cameron
My daughter is 8 and is 50 lb, she is currently using a t-ball bat 26" 13 oz drop -13 bat made by Rawlings, How will this bat help her? Danny Marlow
This bat is specifically designed to hit softballs, whereas a tee ball bat is only designed to hit the softer tee balls. This means it will be much more durable hitting actual softballs, and should provide better pop than a tee ball bat.
Kyle
I am looking for bat that can be used when it is too cold for a composite bat. So how cold of temperatures can this bat be used in? Jamaal
Like any bat, regardless of whether the barrel is composite or alloy, the warmer the weather the better. Using the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 in weather that is consistently below 55 degrees Fahrenheit can potentially cause quicker durability issues as the ball becomes more dense at these temps.
Cameron
My daughter is 4'5 85 pounds. Just purchased the Bustos -13. We got the 30 -13. Shes a strong hitter but are concerned the length may be too long despite the fact she likes to choke up. Andrew Pochos
We would recommend a 30 inch bat for your daughter based on her height and weight. The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would be a great option for her.
Patrick
Is this bat USA approved? Ryan Wirtz
The DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTDXBFP19) has an ASA stamp and therefore will be USA softball approved.
Bri
My daughter is about 4'11" and 75 lbs. Would this bat be a good buy? Danny
We would recommend the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 for players up to around 11 years of age. If your player is 11 or younger, the DeMarini Bustos -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTDXBFP19 would be a good fit at 31 inches, per her height and weight.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
