Pros: My 7 year old grandson just loves this bat. Practiced with his new Louisville Slugger yesterday and he just loves the feel and power. He hit the laces off the ball and looks foward to tournament play after Thanksgiving. Will send pictures of bat in action once season starts.

Pros: My son just received this bat as an upgrade from the one that we turned in for warranty purposes not knowing what we were getting. On his 1st game using it with no time to break it in, he hit a triple, double and a couple of line drives. This bat is GREAT and has a very good strong POP. The grip is nice. It's not an Easton or anything like those expensive bats but for the price, I can tell you that this bat is worth it. It has definitely given my son a boost and after 1 game. It's grown his confidence and has him hitting. He went 5 for 5 in his first game. My son really enjoys the grip & the light weight of the bat. Don't go on price. I used too, but trust me you don't have to with this bat.

Cons: NONE. Great grip, great pop, well balanced and LIGHT.

Pros: Bat has good pop. My son hit the ball well with it.

Cons: The bat was fine during practice, but after the first weekend of regular season (3 games) it had two large dents. He used a much cheaper Warrior for two seasons with no issues. We are very disappointed and now are at the mercy of Louisville Slugger. So far, no reply from them. Meanwhile my son us without a bat!!!

Pros: My son loves the feel of this bat. It is very well balanced. He had just a plain old Easton Reflex, same size and weight, and this bat pops the ball about 30 feet further. It is the perfect bat to fill the gap between Little League and High School.

Pros: I own this bat and I'm 12 years old and I honestly think this is the best bat I have ever owned. I can get the bat around a lot quicker than I could with my Worth, and its really light even though it's a 30" 20oz. I asked my cousin, who's going to TCU on full ride scholarship to play center field. I asked him would he recommend a Marucci or a TPX Louisville Slugger and he said TPX Louisville Slugger would be a lot better.

Cons: No such thing. It's a great bat overall.

Pros: Replaced this when an Easton S1 broke. Was skeptical with a shorter barrel length and moving from composite to alloy, but the kids are hitting it as good and even better than the broken in S1. The "ping" of the alloy replaces the "thud" of the composite.

Cons: Just out of the wrapper, so none yet.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Senior League Baseball Bat: SL136? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Will 2 3/4 barrel swing slower than a 2 5/8 barrel ? None
Not necessarily because, manufacturers are able to adjust the weight distribution in bats to give a 2 3/4" model the same balance and swing weight as a 2 5/8" model.
Tyler

Is this bat end-loaded? My son has a bit of a slow swing. I am looking at this bat the the Demarini Vexxum. I would like a more balanced bat so he can swing it easier. Which one is more balanced? mom

Tyler
My son is 9 yrs old and plays for a Pony league. I was looking at the rule book and it says, "The bat must be a smooth implement from the top of the cap to the top of the knob." My question is, does the cap on this bat qualify as smooth? Also, the rules say non-wood bats must be stamped "Approved for play in Pony baseball." I don't see this stamp. Is the bat still Pony legal? KC
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha: SL136 Senior League will be legal for Pony League baseball. The only stamp you will need is the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp.
Noah
I am trying to choose between the SL136XL and the SL136 (2 3/4 vs 2 5/8 in barrel). Are there leagues that don't allow the 2 3/4? Does the extra barrel size reduce the durability? Why would I choose the 2 5/8 vs the 2 3/4? Josh
Many leagues do not allow 2 3/4 " barrels. USSSA and most travel and local leagues allow 2 3/4" barrels. The 2 3/4 will provide a larger hitting surface. The bigger barrel size does not change the durability. If your league allows 2 3/4" barrels, we recommend you use it.
Kara

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha: SL136 Senior League will feature better balance than the 2012 version. Both models will use the same ST+20 Alloy.

Katie
What is the difference in two-piece bats vs. one-piece bats? Greg
The main difference between one-piece bats and two-piece bats is that one-piece models are developed as one continuous piece of metal as opposed to being pieces bonded together. Two-piece models are created in two sections, a barrel and a handle, and then those two pieces are bonded together.
Tyler

I am a very strong hitter can I rely on this not denting? buster
Due to the nature of the sport, there is not guarantee that any bat, including the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha, wouldn't dent eventually. With proper bat care, including not using the bat in temperatures below 60 degrees, limiting the bat to single player use, and not using it against yellow dimpled cage balls should extend the life of the bat. It is also covered under a 12 month manufacturer warranty.
Tessa L.

What is the difference between Alloy and Composite? My son is 9 years old, 4'9", 94lbs and I'm trying to determine if the 2013 Omaha is right for him. Thanks hco
Alloy and Composite are two categories of materials that manufacturers use to make their bats. Alloy is a term used to describe a blend of metals that is shaped into the form of a bat, while Composite is where fibers are interwoven to make a very strong material. The main difference between the two is that composite bats require a break in period to reach their maximum potential, while alloy bats are hot right out of the wrapper. However, generally composite bats maintain their maximum potential for a bit longer than an alloy bat will.
Kyle J.
What are your thoughts on whether Alloy or Composite is best? Simply put, which one is better? B Fly
Generally composite bats will maintain their peak performance for a longer period of time than an alloy bat will, however composite bats will require a break in period whereas alloy bats are hot right out of the wrapper.
Kyle J.
If I get this bat from www.justbats.com and if I get a dent in the bat. Would I have to send it to Louisville Slugger for the warranty or send it to www.justbats.com? baseball 5

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
