10U Travel Ryno #11 parent

Pros: First off the bat looks great. Many compliments! My son used the bat the first time over the weekend after taking three weeks to breaking it in on the tee and batting practice. The ball was flying off the bat!! Very happy with the purchase. Going from a CF8 -10 to the Zen -8 at 10 years of age worried me a bit but the kid proved me wrong, still had great bat speed.

Pros: The bat has pop out of the wrapper, nice balance, zero Vibration

Cons: Broke in two weeks, about 300 swings which 200 were in the cage. Not worth the money. Unless your looking for a disposable bat.

Crack is Wack! Dave Adams parent

Pros: None that I can honestly think of at the moment.

Cons: Paid full retail cost of bat $349.95 bat cracked in 5 places with two weeks. Sent back to DeMarini asking for a voucher I don't want a replacement. DeMarini should offer a 30 day guarantee or a recall. The bat has a nice pop nothing special hitting is always about the hitter not the bat.

Dad Carlos parent

Pros: Good balance and massive sweet spot. My 12 year old has used it in a couple of games and in practice. Still needs some break-in. The ball is starting to fly off solidly. He's crushed a few that have traveled deep into the outfield. It should be broken in by the time we travel to Cooperstown for a July tournament. Will let you know afterwards.

Cons: None so far.

11u Skinny kid breaks bat at home. Fred Martin parent

Pros: None

Cons: We looked forward to this bat since our older CF ZEN was banned by USSSA. MY son who is 11 plays travel baseball cracked the bat during the break in phase of the bat haven't used it at practice of games only at home in our cage using only real baseballs. FYI my son isn't Giancarlo Stanton he's a 5'1 102 pound yet he broke this bat I should have read reviews before spending my hard earned money. Stay away it's not worth the money. RUN AWAY FROM THIS BAT !!!!!

Outstanding Bat! AD25 parent

Pros: I asked my son to descrive this bat in a word or two and he said "outstanding bat". The bat has plenty of pop with a large sweet spot. My son hit 3 HRs using it the first week of play. Yes it looks nice out of the wrapper but gets dinged up easily but I didnt buy the bat for its looks. It has not cracked with well over 1500 hits on it but to be honest Demarini stands by their product and if it ever does they would replace it with a new bat no questions asked (just a reciept). Well be sticking with this bat because its outstanding!

Cons: Bat lasted 3 days. Now must spend time on the phone with Just Bats and spend time to return bat and wait how many weeks for them to evaluate broken bat.

Pros: Nice looking bat with no vibration 30" -10 CF Zen

Cons: Didn't last long. Waiting on back ordered warranty replacement bat. My 10 year old broke it after 2 months of use. I'm disappointed that I now have to buy something else because travel ball is starting and we will not have a replacement for a month or two. To be honest I'll probably just buy another one. My Son likes the bat.

Best bat my kid has had Neoarch Parent

Pros: This bat is the best bat my kid has had to date. It has loads of pop. He used it to hit his first dinger. It's a drop 8, but it swings lighter than some drop 10s he has. Even mishits don't feel bad on it. My son used it through one whole season of fall ball, and he often uses it during batting practice. It's held up well, but we don't use it when it's cold, and we don't leave it in the car or garage. My son is not a huge kid, but the bat is usually moving around somewhere around 50-60 mph at contact. The handle tape looked a bit cheap, but it's been remarkably durable.

Cons: Price. It's expensive.

Buyer Beware! Cracked in less than a month! Erik Coach

Pros: Bat was great out of the box while it lasted

Cons: Cracked with less than a month of use. When I contacted DeMarini on warranty they said “we have had some problems, but generally the player is too strong for this drop”. I highly doubt my 85# 11 year old was “too strong” for this bat. Even though I spoke to them, completed their claim form and spent addition $ to 2nd fair ship it to them, it wasn’t u til after they received it the decided to let me know they were out of stock and it will be a month before they can replace it!.. Do your self a favor and avoid DeMarini bats!

First Drop 8 Bat John Coach

Pros: The bat has a great barrel weight to it. I have a bigger 11 year old who was using a 30 drop 10 Dirty South Bat. He loved it, but I felt like he needed a little heavier bat. He swings this bat well. It's got good pop if your kid can swing it. This bat hit 6 homeruns in it's first tournament, and that's kind of a big deal for our team.

Cons: I know durability issues exist with these bats. It's part of the risk for getting a very hot bat. A risk I feel is worth taking.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What is the difference between the 2018 and this 2019 bat. Is it just the paint on it, or is this the better bat of the two? grandpa James
This 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXC8Z-19) and the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen -8 Senior League Baseball Bat (WTDXCBR) are very similar bats. Both bats have pretty much the same structure and technology. However, this 2019 CF Zen has a new paint job and a 2 3/4" barrel (the 2018 model had a 2 5/8" barrel). Overall, I do not think there will be a direct advantage in getting this 2019 model.
Ben
The USSSA rules say effective January 1, 2018 all 14U players must use a maximum of a drop five bat, does that mean you cannot use this bat? Cubbie Andy
If your league has mandated that the lightest bat 14U players can use is a drop 5, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXC8Z-19) would not be allowed. The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -5 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXCB5-19) would be meet this standard, as would the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTDXCBC). The BBCOR certification is required for high school and college play.
Taylor
Would this bat have same or more pop than -10 model, all other factors being equal? I would think that the inertia would be greater but wasn"t sure if pop is taken out similar to BBCOR bats. bvoutlaw
This bat still complies with the 1.15 BPF regulations that USSSA requires, just like the -10 model. This means that the "pop" is essentially the same. However, with it obviously being a heavier model, if you can still maintain good bat speed, it should allow for better power.
Kyle J.
Is this 31/23 2 3/4 legal in 12u USSSA? Lucas
Yes, the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19 is legal for 12U USSSA play.
Cameron
When do you think the 31 inch will be in stock? Lenny
At this time, we do not have a specific date from the manufacturer as to when the 31" option of the 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19 will be back in stock. You can add your email address to be notified once these bats are once again available.
Daveron
Did the design of the new 2019 change to a balanced weighted barrel vs the 2018? My son prefers end weighted bats and has used another players bat on his team. Tracy Crosby
The 2019 DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19 will be weighted the same as the 2018 CF ZEN. There is a possibility that your son was swinging a DeMarini CF Insane, which is the end loaded two-piece model.
Max
Is it end loaded at all? Cam Brown
No, the DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19 is a balanced model in its' swing weight.
Tyler
Is there a difference between this one and the black one (same size and specs). Just cosmetics? Jason
No, there will not be any difference other than the cosmetics on the DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: WTDXC8Z-19 and the CF Zen BLACK model.
Tyler
Is this bat approved for play in Tennessee for high school baseball? Tony Roberts
No, the DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA Baseball Bat (WTDXC8Z-19) is not approved for high school. You will need a BBCOR bat for play in high school and college. The model number you will want to look at is "DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTDXCBC19)."
John
Is this bat end loaded? Rich
No, this is considered a balanced bat.
Kyle
How great is the durability? Kenny Foster
The DeMarini CF Zen -8 USSSA (WTDXC8Z-19) is a fairly durable model, however like most composites they generally don't seem to last as long as alloy/aluminum models. Currently is has a 3-4 star rating for durability judging by the customer reviews for this product.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
