This 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX112) comes with an all-composite build to it. In the past, composite bats have required a break-in period to show game ready performance. However, this 2017 version should only require a limited break-in (if any) before showing game-ready performance. I would imagine that a few rounds of BP or a day of hitting off the tee for a day should be sufficient to get it ready for top performance.

The SL7MX211 model will differ from the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX112) as both bats have a different length-to-weight ratio. However, the SL7MX211 will have a 2 3/4" barrel diameter while this SL7MX112 has a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Besides the cosmetics and the length-to-weight ratio, the differing barrel diameters on two bats will be the biggest difference.

The barrel lengths on these bats, assuming they are all the same length, will not change. The different weights that the various 2017 COMBAT MAXUMs will be featured in will be the main difference. Also, it is common to find that that barrel walls of the 2 3/4" bats to be slightly thinner giving more pop potential but also leading to durability issues potentially quicker than that of a 2 5/8".

With this 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX112), it will have a -12 length-to-weight ratio (it is a very light bat). Typically, if being used by the correct aged player, it should be able to hold up durability-wise (I cannot guarantee durability, but most times the individual should be okay). For this bat, I would only recommend using it for players that are age 11 and below.

Please make sure you rotate the barrel about a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings. This will help break-in the composite fibers throughout the barrel.

You would be able to maintain his current length, but get something a little bit lighter that he can swing quicker.
