BEST. BAT. EVER MOMO player

Pros: The balance is incredible. I've never felt a more smooth feel, even when I get jammed. The lizard skin grip is awesome. I heard they fixed the twisting between the barrel and the handle. I haven't felt it yet after a couple of weeks.

Cons: Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Very good bat Poo Bear player

Pros: Out of the wrapper has better pop than the 917, a bit end loaded which is nice, and solid grip as always. Little to no vibration.

Cons: Small sweet spot - must hit it right around the middle of the barrel. Hard to muscle out jam shots or hits off the end. the great pop makes up for it though, not even fully broken in and already warning track power going 75% in BP.

Is the 918 Prime made in China? Ken Allen player

Pros: Bat is good for about a month then the middle piece breaks and bat does not hit very well or with any pop. Flaw since they I bought the Prime 916. As far as I know they have not fixed the issue but just changed the paint job.

Cons: Bat does not hold up, LS will not stand by their warranty. For a bat that cost this much this is crazy!

Pros: My Team likes everything ---feel, sound, balance, pop, and sweet spot. Expensive---but worth it. Hoping we win a state championship in So Cal and this bat can help us. My players love the lizard skin grip as well---I prefer just tape---but I'm just the coach---but yes--an ex D1 player.

Pros: Well balanced, great pop, very comfortable in hands at the plate. We've only owned the bat for a couple of weeks now but the ball flies off the bat in batting practice and in the cages.

Very good bat kye player

Pros: I got this bat for my freshman year of high school and was very excited, so instantly i popped it out of the wrapper and instantly started to get some BP in, I hit a solid 100 balls before i realized my bat was starting to scratch up and had a chipped off piece. The bat had loads of pop and felt amazing but i realized if it was chipping hitting balls what's it gonna chip like when im in game and toss it to run to first base or whatever, just my thoughts

Excellent Bat and Warranty Nate player

Pros: Absolutely the best bat I have used. I get my best "maximum bat speed at impact" during testing using this bat. I have hit a 500 ft. dinger with this bat and quite a few between 400 to 450 ft. I like the sound and the exit speeds are very good. Warranty program is excellent. Upgraded me every time.

Cons: I seem to go through bats in a few months with my bat speed at impact often being as high as 118mph. Plus I take a lot of swings daily. But, Louisville Slugger has been awesome with their warranty exchange program.

Great Bat lowan parent

Pros: Solid feel with great pop. We had the 718 and my son loved that bat. After picking up the 918 we could really feel how much the swing weight was lighter. He likes the 918 even more because of it.

Cons: I wish that LS would make the paint job on the bats more durable. The paint easily chips off the 718 & 918 that we owned. This occurs when they drop the bat on the ground after hitting and just from other normal use.

Pros: My son was in a highschool slump (2-20). Then the best thing happened, he broke his cf zen. I say that because I decided to buy him this bat and his first game he went 4-5. I am not the ine swinging the bat but something about it made the balls fly off it. his smile was priceless.

Amazing Feel Jmart parent

Pros: My boy just turned 14 and we needed a BBCOR bat. He is 5'9" and 140 lbs. we bought the 32" bat. He swings it great. He says it has no sting or vibration. He has swung a Rawligs Velo for years and has transitioned to this nicely. swing weight is awesome. very balanced and solid pop. I was woried he wouldn't swing is well coming from a 31" -5 Velo. but he actaully hits this better. Hit on Hittrax and his Velocity was better and distance was better.

Great bat all around however breaks too easy Jon Penrod player

Pros: It has great pop, great feel, everything I enjoyed about the last years model. I couldn't ask for a better bat swing wise it really was a great bat.

Cons: It, just like its last years model broke or cracked badly before the season even ended. I've never had a bat brake on me as much as these bats do. I break them in and everything and they just don't last for the price you pay. Considering I got this through warranty from the last year model I should expect it not to break like it did before.

Pros: Very well balanced bat. I purchased my son the 34"/31" for this coming season. Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What's the difference between this model and the 2017 Prime 917? jason
This 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) is very similar to the 2017 Prime 917. The only new innovation for 2018 Prime 918 is the RTX End-Cap that creates a longer barrel shape and improved durability.
Ben
What improvements have been made when comparing this 918 to the 917 BBCOR? J RAD
This 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) is very similar to the Prime 917 with the exception of the cosmetics. The only real change for the Prime 918 was the new RTX end-cap that allows for a longer barrel shape and improved durability.
Ben
End Loaded? - You note a Balancing Weight score of 1.7. For a player who prefers an End Loaded bat (Demarini Voodoo), how does this correlate and compare? SAD
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) features a balanced design and would not be very comparable to the DeMarini Voodoo. If you were looking for a bat similar to the Voodoo I would recommend taking a look at the 2018 Louisville Slugger Select 718 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBS718B3) which is very comparable to the DeMarini VooDoo.
Carter
I am 5'9" 150 pounds and 13 years old. Both the Select 718 and the Prime 918 are good bats. Which one will give the most power? simba
It ultimately depends on what you are more comfortable with as a hitter. The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is more of a balanced bat and works best for a player wanting a lighter swinging bat. The Select 718 has a slightly end loaded swing weight and could potentially provide the most power if the player can swing it. The more mass you can put behind the ball the further it could potentially travel.
Jason
In 2018, what bat will be best designed for a power hitter who likes an end-loaded bat? swrhoads
If you were looking for an end-loaded BBCOR bat in 2018, I might suggest looking to the end-loaded series of the Voodoo bat and CF bat that will be released from DeMarini this fall. The CF end-loaded model will have the similar two-piece, all-composite design like this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3).
Ben
How does the 918 compare to COMBAT MAXUM with regard to balance? DJacks5
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will not be as evenly balanced as the COMBAT MAXUM. This will range from about 1/2 ounce to a full ounce difference in swing weight feel.
Cameron
I am 5 foot 7 and 136 pounds, looking to use this for sophomore, junior and possibly senior year. What size would you recommend for me to get? THOR
I would recommend a 33'' for the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 which will give you length for the years to come.
Max
I'm 6'4" and 210 lbs (in college). What size would you recommend? Dcubed18
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) in the 34" size.
Ben
Will the 918 Prime be available in a drop 8? james
The LS Prime 918 will be made in a -8 model with sizes ranging from 29 inches to 32 inches. These bats will be constructed in the same manner as the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 with regards to having a the fully composite, three-piece construction.
Cameron
What's the difference between this bat and the DeMarini CF8- is this bat more of a balanced bat or an end loaded design? Jessica
So both of these bats are pretty similar. The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat will be a 3-piece design that is fully composite and has a balanced swing weight. The 2017 DeMarini CF Insane End Load BBCOR Baseball Bat has a 2-piece fully composite design that has a balanced swing weight.
Cade
I'm 5'11'' and weigh 190 lbs. I usually bat 3 or 4 hole. Would you recommend this bat or the Easton MAKO BEAST? magic
It is really hard to say which bat I would recommend because both of these are great bats and it truly depends on what you are comfortable with in the box. Both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat both have balanced swing feels and are both 2-piece composite designs.
Cade
What's the difference between the 2017 model and the 2018 model? Is it just a new paint scheme? Bob
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 features a new RTX end cap that helps create a longer barrel shape and improve the durability. Otherwise the two bats are very similar.
Jason
What is the difference in the sweet spot for the 2017 Prime 917 and the 2018 Prime 918? Is there genuine size increase or is it all hype? Chris
Overall, I think the sweet spot sizes between this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the Prime 917 BBCOR should be pretty similar as both bats feature the same Microform Composite material. However, there is a chance that the Prime 918 may have a little larger sweet spot due to the bat featuring the new RTX End Cap that creates a longer barrel shape.
Ben
Is this bat okay to use with the new rules? Anonymous
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 does not meet the USA standards for 2018, and does not feature the USA marking that will be required for the leagues changing to the new bat rules.
Logan
Have they done anything this year to fix the breaking connection point problem? Bill
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will feature the TRU3 Connection point technology. This is the same as on previous models. The biggest change that has been made to this bat is the end cap.
Cameron
How does this bat compare to the 2018 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR? Zach
Overall, this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the Rawlings Quatro bats are pretty similar. Both bats have a barrel and handle that are built of composite material in addition to a balanced swing feel. As well, both bats feature an advanced connection point that limits the amount of vibration that can get down to a player's hands on a miss-hit.
Ben
Does the Prime 918 feature the rotating/twisting handle that was on the Prime 917? Jordan
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will feature the same TRU3 Connection technology as previous Prime models.
Cameron
Does this bat come in 30 inch 27 oz.? allan
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is not featured in a 30 inch 27 ounce model.
Cameron
Does the 918 come in both end loaded and balanced weight? Trace Patchett
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) is only available in the balanced weight.
Mick
Will there be other releases of the 918 in a 2 5/8 29 in.? I'm hoping for a -10 or -12? If so, when will these be released? Eagle6
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will only be featured in a BBCOR model. As for LS making the Prime 918 in smaller sizes, a -10 or -12, they should have the USA bat stamped models available come December of 2017. As for the sizes that will be offered, that is yet to be determined.
Cameron
Does the Prime 918 have a lighter swing weight than the 2018 CF Zen? Daniel G
This 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the 2018 CF Zen BBCOR (WTDXCBC) feature the same two-piece, all-composite build and are designed to be balanced in their swing feel. Overall, the feel between the bats should be very similar and I would have a hard time suggesting one over the other as the more balanced option.
Ben
I have seen a few answers refer to the new end cap giving the bat a "longer barrel shape". What exactly does that mean? How much longer? Does this longer shape result in a larger sweet spot? Mike
The end cap is more compact in the 918 and allows the barrel to extend more. The length is around .25 inch. This is also at the end which will not effect the play. The sweet spot will generally be the same. The main difference is the compact end cap.
Mick
I'm looking to get the 918 Prime in BBCOR. Is there a performance difference between the 917 and 918? bryan
It is our opinion that there will not be much, if any, performance difference between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the LS Prime 917. There is a new end cap design on the 918 which will slightly enhance the overall swing weight and balance of the bat.
Cameron
What"s the differences between the 918 prime and 917 prime? K snipe
The biggest difference is the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 has the new RTX end cap for better durability. Other than that the differences are just cosmetic.
Tori
Last season I used a 31-28 CAT 7. Would this bat be good for me? big boy gets it
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 would feel a little different than the CAT 7 but will feel balanced such as the CAT 7.
Max
What is the best bat right now? DeMarini? This bat? The CAT 7, the CAT 7 Connect? Or the Prime 917? franky
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a great bat to consider for someone seeking a composite bat with a balanced swing weight. With that said, there is not one BBCOR bat on the market that will significantly outperform the others as the testing standards are extremely high on these bats.
Cameron
My boy is 5'3" & 115 lbs and growing fast. Likely be 5'5" & 120 lbs + before spring. He is hitting a 32 Easton Z Core drop-3; 9 yrs of playing experience. He has hit & likes the LS 2018 model 918. What is your suggestion/advise? Mike
If your player liked the LS Prime 918 from previous use then we would certainly recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. This bat will offer more flex than the Easton Z-CORE.
Cameron
My kid is currently using the LS Solo 617. Could be handle this bat? How important is the length of a bat play into height and weight? My son is in high school, short for his age, but required to use a -3 bat. Most bats in this category begin at 31". Yo
Without knowing the players height and weight we cannot give a recommendation on what size he should be swinging. If he is looking for a very light bat I might recommend sticking with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Solo 618 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS618B3 which is a very balanced bat and begins at 29".
Carter
My son is 14 years ls 5'7 and 135 lbs. Looking to be informed on the differences of 1, 2 and 3 piece bats and how they related to hitters and swing types (flex, stiffness, etc...)? Lazer7
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of looking for a BBCOR bat in the 31" length. The biggest difference that will exist between 1, 2 and 3 piece bats will be the feel at contact. A 1-piece bat will feature a really stiff feel when you make contact with a baseball. A 2-piece or 3-piece bat (like this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3) will feature a considerable amount of flex when hitting a baseball (the flex feel between the 2 and 3-piece bat will be pretty much the same). Any type of hitter could use a 1, 2 or 3 piece bat; it will just come down to their personal preferences in a bat as there will be no inherent advantage to having one style over the other style.
Ben
My 2017 917 broke, how do I know this won't? adamr19
There is no way to say for sure that one would not run into a durability issue with the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. Vast majority of the time metal bats will experience a warranty issue within the 12 month manufacture's warranty period.
Cameron
Will high school baseball require the new USA marking on all BBCOR bats? Meaning that all other bats can not be used? Jim
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will not feature the USA Baseball marking. BBCOR bats, which are required at all high school and college levels, are not going through any changes. A bat with a USA Baseball stamp will be required in 2018 for organizations such as Little League, Dixie, Pony, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dizzy Dean and AABC.
Cameron
I am interested in purchasing this bat. I have had the Prime 917 for the last year and a half and it treated me very well but it is beginning to sound dead. What are the differences between last year's Prime 917 and this year's Prime 918? Also, what is the average life span of these bats? Philip
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3, when compared to the Prime 917, will have a newly designed end cap. This allows for a better overall balance and slightly larger sweet spot. As for the life span of this bat, or any other bat for that matter, it is impossible to say as there are too many differing variables from one player to the next.
Cameron
My son is 14 years old and he is 5"7' and 115 pounds. What size do you recommend for him to use well into high school? nick
I would recommend going with a 32'' 29 oz if he is trying to use the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 throughout high school.
Max
My son is 15. He is 6"1' and 175 lbs. Last year he used a 917 32/29. He wants a 33/30, do you think the 918 will be comparable to the 917 being an inch longer and 1 oz. heavier? He tried a teammate's 918 32/29 and was swinging early. What are your thoughts? Dog Pound
Making the step to a BBCOR bat is always challenging. If he is swinging early with a 32"/29oz bat, a 33" may be the solution. It will slow down his swing speed a little bit until he gets adjusted to the weight. As far as the 917 and 918 go, they are very similar. The biggest difference between the two are the cosmetics. If your player likes the 917, he will also like the 918.
Mick
My son has always had Easton Mako but we are looking at this bat in drop 3 to use the next 3 years of high school. Trying to decide between it and the new Easton Ghost. Any recommendations? cas
Both the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the 2018 Easton Ghost X BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB18GX are great options. Both will feature anti-vibration technology, composite materials, and balanced swing weights. It would be hard for me to recommend one over the other as each player has a different preference.
Dan
My son is a freshman, and he is 6' and 130 pounds. What size is best for him? Joe
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3.
Logan
My son is a 12 and he is 6'4" and weighs 275 lbs. He is switch hitter that simply obliterates the baseball, arguably hitting it harder than anyone in the game. He is pull focused, and gets away with it because of brute force. What size bat should he use? Ricardo Roberto Fernandez
For a player of his height and weight, as well as factoring in age, a 33 inch 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 should work well.
Cameron
My son is 13 and in the 7th grade. They want him to play up to the 8th grade and I am looking for the best bat I can get for him. Money is no worry but my worry is what size do I get him? He was using a youth 29 bat. What do you recommend and can you send me a link to the bat I should get so I can pick it up? James Martin
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is an excellent two-piece composite model for someone needing to swing a BBCOR model. We are have seen a growing trend of middle school leagues going to the BBCOR standard, this is what all high school and college age players must use, but if one does not have to use BBCOR then the 2018 Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTLSLO518B5 or 2018 DeMarini Voodoo -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: WTDXVB5 would be better. We would always recommend you check with local league officials to confirm any bat rule restrictions. As for size, this is determined more by a player's height and weight. To get a better gauge on proper length to use please use the bat coach feature located on the website.
Cameron
I have a freshman in college and he is asking for this bat. He currently swings the CAT 7. He is a gap/power hitter. Will this bat be a solid choice for him? Carp
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is an excellent bat for all young adult players. The 100% composite microfoam barrel offers maximum pop while maintaining a light swing weight. The Prime 918 also now utilizes an RTX end cap to create a longer barrel with further improved durability.
Tyler
Does this bat come in a 35 inch? rolo
The largest size available for the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is 34" and 31 ounces.
Logan
I'm 5"9' and 200 lbs. What size bat should I get? I was thinking a 33 inch because I'm a big guy but I'm not 100% sure. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend getting a 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) in the 33"/30 oz. size.
Taylor
Does the Prime 918 have a longer barrel then the Easton Mako Beast? chris
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17MK) are going to have very similar barrel lengths and both have a diameter of 2 5/8". I don't think you will see a drastic sweet spot difference between the two bats.
Taylor
My son is 6"2' and 180 lbs - what size bat? He hits with a 33" now...at times a lot go off the end. He has very long arms too. mike
We would recommend a 33" or 34" length bat for his size, depending on personal preference.
Kyle J.
What's the difference between the 718 and the 918? kye dude
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a fully composite model with a balanced swing weight while the LS 718 is a hybrid bat featuring an alloy barrel and composite handle with an end-loaded swing weight.
Cameron
My son is 6 ft, 140 lbs. He's a real slender 14 yr old. Is this bat the best for him? Or would you recommend another Louisville Slugger bat? jk
I would recommend the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 33 inch length. The balanced design and 100% composite microform barrel offers maximum pop with a light swing weight which is of great benefit to a player with the specs you have listed.
Dan
I'm 5'6", weigh 117 pounds, and I'm 13. What size bat would I need for a drop 3? Easy E
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3.
Logan
Does the new 918 have more pop then last year's 917? I am a power hitter so need that big bat. catcher stud 13
As of now we have not seen anything that would indicate there is more or less pop/power in the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 when compared to the previous 917 models.
Cameron
My son is 15, stands 5'9" approx 155lbs. Contemplating on going up to a 33" 30 oz. this year. What do you recommend? Dtrain
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend using a 32" Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3). But, it is entirely up to your son and his personal preference. Check out our bat coach for recommendations based on height and weight: https://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
JP
The 2016 and 2017 916 and 917 were the subject of a lawsuit regarding the connection piece. How was that fixed for the 2018 918 model? Bat Question Guy
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 features the same TRU3 socket connection technology as the previous 916 and 917 models.
Cameron
We are considering the Prime 918. Wondering what the differences are between it and Prime 917. Robert A Kelly Sr.
The only difference between the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is the end cap design. With the Prime 918 an RTX end cap was created to give bat more balance.
Cameron
My son is a lefty with power. He now uses the CAT 7 Connect. Why should I switch to the 918? Is it that much better? Noe
There is not anything out there from a BBCOR perspective that has significantly more performance capabilities. Rather BBCOR bats are more about feel (balanced versus end-loaded) and vibration control (one-piece bats are stiffer and replicate wood better while two-piece bats give you more whip and reduce stinging from off-centered hits). The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a well balanced bat offering a two-piece composite construction. If a player were to get jammed or hit a ball off the end cap they would feel little to no vibration. Whether or not to switch from the Marucci CAT 7 Connect would be strictly feel.
Cameron
How long does the bat last with out a bat sleeve (how durable is it)? chanman the baseball man
Unfortunately it's hard to give an exact answer on the lifespan of a bat because it depends on the amount of use. If you play spring and summer baseball with normal use (say 1-2 practices/hitting sessions a week and games), I would anticipate getting at least a full year or two out of this bat, just like any other model.
Kyle J.
Does this bat have a lot of pop and feel to the ball? Also how does this compare to the Louisville Slugger 518 Omaha and the Rawlings Quatro 2018? the baseball man
Unfortunately the "feel" of a bat varies from player to player, so we can't really make a definitive statement about that quality of a bat. The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 should compare very similarly to the Rawlings Quatro in that they are both multi-piece, fully composite designs that allow for a good amount of flex during the swing to reduce vibration on mishits. The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 is a one-piece, full alloy design to allow a stiffer feeling swing.
Kyle J.
My son is a 16 year old sophomore and is 5"9', 130. What size do you recommend for him? He swings a CAT 7 32/29 now. Blue
Based on your player's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
My son is 17, weighs 250 lbs, and stands 6'4". What size should he swing? Traci
Based on your player's height and weight, our general recommendation for a 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) in the 34"/31 oz size.
Ben
Can this bat be used in Little league? My son will use it for school team, but still will play a Little League team as well as travel. Baseballmom14
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 can be used in the Intermediate (50/70), Junior League, and Senior League divisions of Little League baseball. It cannot be used in Tee Ball, Minor League, 9-10 Division, and Major Division.
Logan
How does the Beast X Speed compare to the Louisville Slugger Prime 918? andy
The main difference will be that the Easton Beast X Speed is a one-piece aluminum design while the Louisville Slugger Prime 918 is a three-piece composite design. The three-piece design provides better vibration dampening on mishits and added flex during the swing, while a one-piece design while provide a stiffer feel to the swing which can help with power transfer to the ball.
Kyle J.
My son is 14, 5'5 and 170 pounds what size drop 3 should he use? Owen Pixley
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 32"/29 ounce 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3.
Carter
I"m unsure if my bat is broken. I don"t know if this a common thing but the middle rubber thing is loose and slides up and down. Is this bad or normal? Noah
If the rubber piece that covers the adjoining barrel and handle on your 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 has come loose do not fret, this does not mean that bat will not perform at its optimal levels. The rubber piece is essentially a buffer and will help further reduce the sting or vibration a player would feel from an off-centered hit. Try using a rubber adhesive to get the piece to remain in place.
Cameron
Does this bat require a break-in period? Owen21
Yes, we highly recommend a break-in period before game use since this is a composite bat. We generally recommend 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss, rotating the bat 1/4" each swing to get a nice break-in all around the barrel on composite bats.
Kyle J.
This bat has become our son's favored team bat. Most kids are hitting with it for both practice and in the games. It's getting a lot of use and I am worried about protecting our investment. Wondering if we should speak up about limiting the team use. We are hoping this bat would last 2 seasons of Pony and possibly into high school. This is the beginning of his first Pony year. What is your opinion. It doesn't feel good to think about having to speak up and limit the team use, but I really don't like worrying about it either. Bat Question Guy
Bats are only going to have so many hits in them and bats that are consistently used by the entire team definitely run the risk of breaking prematurely over a bat just used by an individual. To get the most out of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 we would not recommend using it as a team bat.
Carter
Is it normal for my new bat to have something loose inside when I swing? It sounds like a pebble or something. It is the BBCOR Prime 918. Kevin
Yes, that actually is somewhat normal for all bats. Manufacturers use an adhesive glue to secure the end cap onto bats, and over time a small piece of the excess glue can flake off and sound like a very small pebble. Sometimes this happens after 100 swings, sometimes after 1000, but it happens to almost any bat eventually. As long as you aren't seeing any performance issues, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Kyle J.
Is it endloaded and if not what bats are endloaded? Phillip Cale
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 features a Balanced Swing Weight. The 2018 Louisville Slugger Select 718 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS718B3 is going to feature more of an end load.
Carter
My son is 15, 5"8" tall and 190 lbs. Should we get a 32 or 33 inch ? Sergio
We would probably suggest a 33" length for his height and weight, although a 32" could also work if he's someone who likes to stand closer to the plate.
Kyle J.
Is this bat legal for little league BBCOR .50 2.625 max? Rudy
If your league allows BBCOR bats, then this bat is legal and has the .50 stamp as indicated by the term "BBCOR" in the title.
Kyle J.
I just noticed that my Prime 918 had some paint chip off the barrel. Should I be worried or concerned about this paint chipping or is it normal? baseball12
Paint chipping on bats is very normal and typically, is not a cause for concern. If you notice that your 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat (WTLBBP918B3) has a decline in performance or a change in the sound made on contact, I would recommend sending the bat to the manufacturer for a one-time, warranty replacement. Let us know if that is the case as we are always happy to help facilitate that process.
Taylor
Is this bat or the Louisville Select a better bat? baseball17
Both this 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and the 2018 Louisville Slugger Select 718 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBS718B3 are held to the same performance standard so neither has a higher performance advantage. The main difference will be that the Prime 918 will offer you a multi-piece fully composite construction while the Select 718 is a hybrid bat with an alloy barrel and a composite handle. Furthermore, the Prime 918 will offer a balanced swing weight while the Select 718 will be slightly end loaded.
Tyler
When is the Louisville Slugger 919 Prime going to come out? baseball17
We have not been provided with an official release date as of this time. Typically the models for the next year are released around July/August/September.
Kyle J.
What is the bat made of? Kendalyn Marines
This bat is a three-piece, fully composite bat. Composite material is made up of carbon fiber material that is tightly interwoven.
Kyle J.
Is there a difference in pop or power between this bat and last year's model the Prime 917? baseball17
No, there is no noticeable difference in the pop. The BBCOR standard is fairly restrictive, so almost all BBCOR models will have very similar pop.
Kyle J.
I weigh 170 lbs and I am 6 ft, what size should I get? rolo
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 33 inch model would serve you best based on your current height and weight.
Cameron
I am about 73 inches and weigh about 175 lbs, what size bat should I use? Dee
Per your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 33 inch model.
Cameron
My son is about 64 inches about 105 pounds. Could he use the 32 inch model? Foyboy
Given your player's specifications, I would not recommend the 32" option of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. I would recommend a 30" BBCOR bat, with the largest being a 31". However, all players will differ and the balanced swing weight of the Prime 918 should allow for it to swing true to the weight.
Tyler
I am currently using this bat and I am wondering what temperatures I should be using this bat in? k
Here at JustBats, we recommend that you do not use your best bat in any temperature below 55 degrees. These conditions cause the ball to become harder and can lead to major structural damage to your bat. This is no different for the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 as the composite could certainly crack in cold weather conditions.
Tyler
I am 5"11" and 150 pounds. What size of 918 would you recommend? Justin
Per your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
Is this a minus 3 bat, and legal for high school play? debbie
Yes, the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a BBCOR (-3) baseball bat and will be legal for all high school and NCAA baseball.

Per your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 in a 32 inch model.

Is there a break in for this bat? mike
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 has a composite barrel and will require about 150-200 hits on it to allow for peak performance. We also recommend that you rotate the barrel about a quarter turn every 10-15 hits in order to balance better the barrel's break-in process.
Tyler
Do you recommend rolling the prime 918 to expedite the break in process? BB
We do not recommend the process of rolling to break in the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. This process can void your manufacturer's warranty. We do recommend 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss rotating the bat every 10 swings a 1/4 turn.

My son currently is 13 yrs old, 5"8' and 125 lbs. He currently hits a CAT 7, 32' -3. He is a contact hitter (lead off) that also can drive the ball about 320 ft. First question is, what are your thoughts in transitioning to this bat? If so, what size? michael
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a two-piece composite bat that features a balanced swing weight. This bat is a great option for both contact and power hitters alike. As for whether or not to transition to this bat in the same 32 inch size (a 33 inch would not be beneficial based on the player's height, weight and age) that we be more or less determine by how the player feels with regards to using the CAT 7.

I'm heading off to college to play baseball within the next month and I can't decide on whether to get the 918 or the new CAT 8. Always used aluminum but I've seen so many great reviews on the 918, plus it's a balanced bat which is a pro for me. Any suggestions? Vincent
Whether to get the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 or the Marucci CAT 8 will stem more from your personal preference with regards to either composite (LS Prime 918) or alloy (Marucci CAT 8) and whether or not you like to swing a two-piece bat (Prime 918) or one-piece bat (Marucci CAT 8). Both are well balanced and would make great options as you embark on your college career.

How does this bat feel compared to the Omaha 517 in terms of balance? What would have more pop this or the Quatro? Devin
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 will be more balanced than the Omaha 517 and as far as performance because of the BBCOR certification it is hard to distinguish which bat will have more "pop".
Max
Would you recommend the prime 918 or the MAKO BEAST for a mostly contact hitter but has some power? greg mcgarvey
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 would most likely be more suitable because of the balanced swing weight of the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 compared to the Mako Beast.
Max
Why is there such a big drop in price compared to a couple months ago? bball
The 2019 Louisville Slugger bats are scheduled to be released in either August or September. That is the reason that the 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and other 2018 models have dropped in price

My son is slightly build and just transitioning to drop 3 full time this Fall for 14U. Is this the right bat for him Skinny
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a great option for slighter build players. The three-piece construction will provide greater flex in the bat to help increase bat speed. This bat will help make the transition to BBCOR bats while the player gets stronger for stiffer bats.

My 13 yr old son has finally hit a growth spurt, growing a few inches and adding a few lbs the past year. He is now 5'6" and 115 lbs. I am going to purchase the Prime 918. My question is what size should I buy with his frame? 31/28 or 32/29? I'm not sure he is quite ready for the 32/29 but my fear is if I get the 31/28, he will have outgrown it by the time Middle School baseball starts in February. What is your suggestion? AG
Based on his height and weight, I would recommend getting a 31'' 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. He is well inside the range for that size and this should last him.
Tori
My son is turning 15 in a week, and he is 6'0, 160 lbs. I'm wondering what size bat I should get him so that it wont be too little in a year or so. Johnny Baseball
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 33" 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3. That size should last him at least a couple years, as a 34" would be for a much bigger player.

My son is playing 14U this fall, 5'8' 130 lbs. Would you recommend 32"/29 oz or 31"/28 oz BBCOR? Also, what's the difference between Prime 918 vs 919? jack
With the specifications provided we would recommend a 31" / 28 oz bat. However, you could go up to a 32" if you want a bat he can grow into. The 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP919B3 will feature a new grip tape for added comfort and a new connection point that allows for independent movement between the barrel and handle.

Is the bat a 34 inch or a 32 inch? The photo says 32 but the description says 34. Ethan
The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: (WTLBBP918B3) is currently only available in the 34" size option on our website. This bat is a closeout so we will not be restocking the other sizes, such as 32". We only photograph one size bat & cannot update the photos as the bats become sold out! Sorry for the confusion!

How does this bat compare to the Cat 7? Such as barrel size. Some reviews described the barrel as small. Papa bell
The greatest difference is that the Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is a three-piece fully composite bat which will have a lot of flex in the swing. As oppose to the other option as a one piece alloy. These two options differ in material, flex, and swing weight. If your player needs help generating bat speed, the Prime 918 would be a great option.
Daveron
What's the difference in this and the 919 prime as far as performance feel and durability? Preston
The 2018 Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 and 919 will be pretty similar as far as performance. The biggest difference is the 919 has VCX technology to help reduce vibration and allows for independent movement between the barrel and handle.
Tori
Will there be a 32/29 or a 33/30? Ty
No, the Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 is an older model and we will not be getting anymore in stock. We do have the newer 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP919B3 available in those sizes, however.

Saw someone selling this bat at a used goods store. I have two bats currently, the Rawlings VELO ACP and the DeMarini CF Zen, how does a (used) Louisville Slugger Prime 918 compare to those two bats? And overall, does one stand out from the three? Michael B
The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTLBBP918B3 would compare favorably to a DeMarini CF Zen as both bats are two-piece composite models, featuring a balanced swing weight. The Rawlings VELO ACP is a one-piece alloy and is the most balanced of the three. The VELO will not offer much in the way of vibration control but does offer the best exit velo since it does not flex on contact like a two-piece bat.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
