Rawlings Velo -10 USA bat Keith coach

Pros: Great balance and pop for a USA bat. No hand sting to speak of and the "ping" is so loud, it might just scare the defense.

Cons: It's heavier than advertised (all USA bats are), but the composite end cap makes this one balanced and easy to get around.

Poor Quality Greg parent

Pros: Feels good with relatively decent pop

Cons: First Rawlings bat I've owned and the last. Knob fell off a few weeks into the season. Never in my 35 years of playing and coaching baseball have I seen this. Also, given poor warranty process, son will be without a bat for practice and games for a couple weeks.

Big dud Dave G parent

Pros: No issues with durability, and stores easily in the garage since it rarely gets used.

Cons: My son was never comfortable with this bat and ended up borrowing from the team all season. It is much heavier than stated. Another boy on the team, normally a good hitter, had the same bat and hit dinkers. Note how small the sweet spot of the barrel actually is. Disappointing since we have had success with other Velo models. But this one is a dud.

Unfortunately, Rawlings does not make the VELO in a 2 1/4" barrel size at this time.

What is the difference between this and the Rawlings 5150? hehs
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8V10) is a hybrid which can limit the sting from the vibrations (composite end-cap). It also contains a synthetic grip which gives the hitter more control through the swing.
Mick
How much different is this bat when the USSSA version? ed
This 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8V10) will have performance that is comparable to what can be achieved off a wood baseball bat. Because of that, this bat will perform lower when compared to its USSSA counterpart.
Ben
Will this bat come in a 27/17 option? Tex
Unfortunately, there are no plans for Rawlings to release a 27" 17 oz model of the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the Easton Beast X -10 alloy bat? I know they are both -10 but does one feel lighter than the other? John T
Both the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 and the 2018 Easton Beast X -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BX10 are one-piece alloy models featuring balanced swing weights. The 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 will come in approximately 2 ounces heavier than the listed weight. We are not sure on the Easton Beast X at this time.
Cameron
I am wrestling with this bat and the Easton S750 or S750C. My son is medium size but is 8 playing with 9-1 1 years old. He is doing well with his Easton S300 but with the switch over to USA bats I want to keep his bat speed. Which one do you suggest I think the S750C may be heavier? Sean
If you are looking for the lightest option I would recommend the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 for him. It is an extremely balanced design with a composite end cap to increase bat speeds.
Carter
What is the main difference between this Rawlings Velo (-5 model) and the Rawlings 5150 (also -5)? baseballmom
The main difference between the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 and the 5150 model from Rawlings is the composite end cap that the VELO features. This allows the VELO to have a more balanced swing weight. As well, the VELO utilizes acoustic alloy to give the bat a more distinct sound on impact.
Cameron
How does this bat compare to the Easton Beast X drop 10? dd
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 will feel very similar to the Beast X. Both are going to be one piece bats and being very balanced as well. The Velo will be a hybrid construction, while the Beast will be alloy.
Max

The barrels on the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 and the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 are similar from a construction standpoint. However, the barrel length on the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 is slightly longer.
Dan
I am looking at getting my son the -10 Velo. He is 4'9" 75 lbs. and just turned 10 yrs old. I was thinking a 30/20. What is your recommendation? travis
Based on your player's height and weight, I would agree that the 30" 20 ounce 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 is the right size.
Logan
Will my son be able to use this bat in Dixie Youth and USSSA? Shannon
Due to this 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8V10) having a USA bat stamp, it will be permitted for Dixie play and USSSA play.
Ben
I am looking to get my 10 1/2 year old son this bat. He has a -11 now 30/19. He is 5'1+ and about 110 pounds. Would the 31/21 be best for him or should I be looking at -8s? Greg
Based on your son's age, would recommend getting the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 as this bat will feature a -10 length to weight ratio. A drop 8 bat is better suited for a 12/13 year old player (someone in 7th grade).
Cameron
My son is 9 years old, 62 pounds, 43 inches tall. Do you recommend 28 or 29 inch bat? Jack
I would recommend the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 in a 28" length.
Dan
What is the 'real world' weight of the 29/19? catfish
The 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 will feature a static weight of roughly 2.3 ounces more than the listed weight.
Cameron
Does this bat need to be broken in, either with a ball mallet or rollers? Will that improve it's "pop?" Junior
This bat does not require a break-in because the barrel is aluminum. It is ready to go as soon as you purchase it.
Kyle J.
My son will be 10 in July, he is 5'3" and 90lbs. What would be an ideal length/weight for him? Jeff
We would recommend a 30" or 31" length for his height and weight. We can't really recommend a weight since there are so many factors we can't really know online, but -10 bats are probably the most common for 10 year olds.
Kyle J.
My son will be 12, but he is very small for his age (he is a swimmer, so he's pretty strong). His coach recommended a -10 for him, what length do you suggest? I'd like to see him get more than one season out of this investment. He is about 50" tall. CDG
To best assist with sizing on the 2018 Rawlings VELO -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8V10 we would need to know the player's height and weight.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
