Great Bat! A player

Pros: Very well balanced bat. It's not hand weighted or end weighted, it's very well balanced. It has a great feel to it and it's very easy to get through the zone. The pop is fantastic, better than the 916 and Maxum and Voodoo. Little to no vibration. The bat looks amazing too. The white looks great when it's dirty.

Cons: None, except maybe the grip, but that's an easy fix with tape.

Z-Core Hybrid Ben player

Pros: Amazing pop. Ball seems to fly off the bat even on a bad swing. Very easy to square up a ball.

Cons: I used it in one tournament and the dugouts had concrete floors, you would have thought i had had the bat for years. Scratches easily, marks up easy as well.

SOLID BBCOR BAT Nicholas Bowling player

Pros: • Good Bat, swings well • Pop at start was OK, but after a month it is great • Paint looks sexy as heck when dirty • Sounds nice when hit • I am a 5' 7" 175 lbs 14 year old (just turned 14 about a month ago when wroting this) and i play with 10th graders in 8th grade and I can compete with them with this bat • Would Buy again 33"30 oz version is the one i got and it was nice

Cons: • This may just be my thing, but i hit a lot of ground balls with this bat, if you are fast this maybnot be an issue to you but i am not, so this would be an issue for me BUT this may just be my thing so this can be overlooked • Another issue I had was tape, but thisnid typical of any Easton bat, just retape it with Lizard Skin

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I'm 5'10 and 175 lb. What do you think is the best bat size for me? TZ
We would recommend a 33" for a player with your height and weight.
John
How does this bat's swing weight compare to other balanced bats like the VELO and Prime 915? GT
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is a well balanced bat. In terms of balance, it will be similar to that of the Rawlings VELO and Prime 915, although the alloy barrel may make it feel just a tad heavier.
Marcus
What bat does the XL version compare too? Trae
The XL version of the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA is replacing the XL3 from the past. The other model on the market that is the most similar is the RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR Baseball Bat: B1403.
Jason
My son's middle school team requires a drop 3. Does this bat meet that requirement? Is this considered a big barrel bat? ash
Yes, the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) is a -3 length to weight ratio and has a big barrel diameter of 2 5/8 inches.
Patrick
Is this like the Rawlings VELO BBCOR? zach
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) is a hybrid design with a composite handle and an alloy barrel while the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is a single-piece alloy design. They are two different categories of bats.
Patrick
How does this bat compare to the 2014 MAKO as far as swing goes? Is this bat end loaded? How much does that differ from the MAKO? momster
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is a two-piece hybrid construction with an alloy barrel and a composite handle. The Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB14MK is also a two-piece construction, but a fully composite bat. Both bats are balanced bats and would work well for a contact type hitter, since the weight of the bat is evenly distributed along the entire length.
Nick
What is the difference between the 2016 Z-CORE Hybrid and the 2015 Easton S3Z ZCORE BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB15S3Z? nvrfastenuf
The differences between the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH and the Easton S3Z ZCORE BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB15S3Z are going to be the following: two piece hybrid construction (composite handle and alloy barrel/Easton S3Z is going to have a one-piece all alloy design). HYPERSKIN performance grip for the Z-CORE Hybrid, and this bat will also feature a lighter swing weight than the S3Z.
Cameron
Does cold weather effect a hybrid bat like the cold effects a composite bat? What type of bat construction do you recommend for weather around 50- 55 degrees? My son is a contact hitter. Connor
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. Neither alloy or composite are great performance or durability wise in cold weather (under 70 degrees Fahrenheit) but alloy barrels, like the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH, would be better suited for the colder weather. In review, if playing in colder weather on a consistent basis an alloy barrel is going to be the better option.
Cameron
How long does it take to break in? bigpapi34
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH will not have a break in period. It should come hot out of the wrapper.
Nick
I am 5' 8" and a half and weigh 135. What size bat do you recommend? Goredsox13
For a player with your height and weight we would recommend a 31".
John
My son is a freshman in high school. He is 5' 3" and weighs 100 lbs. What is a solid bat with a balanced swing weight and sizing for my player? Dave
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend going with a 30"/27 oz option of a BBCOR bat. Since your player is smaller and using BBCOR bats for the first time, I would recommend the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) over this 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH). The BB16ZA will be well balanced and available in the smaller 30"/27 oz size that will be excellent for your player.
Ben
I'm 15 years old, 135 pounds and 5'6. I want something to last for a while. I am more of a contact hitter. What bat and bat size would you recommend for me? Brian
Based upon your height and weight, our general recommendation would be to go with a 31" model of a BBCOR .50 bat. If you are wanting to get a bat that you can use for a longer period of time and are planning on growing in the next few years, I would say that you would be safe to get a 32" option of this 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH).
Ben
Is it a bad idea to use this bat in cold weather? How does that negatively effect the performance of the bat? How cold does it have to be before you can no longer use a 2 piece bat? Some early high school games it's in the high 30s low 40s. Is it okay to use then? bwilde222
Here at JustBats, we do not recommend using or storing bats in temperatures colder than 60 degrees. However, we know this is unavoidable in certain parts of the country, so we just recommend limiting your use of the bat in these temperatures. The colder temperatures can reduce the life of the bat and make the bat more prone to damage.
Nick
In BBCOR, which Easton 2016 model compare to the 2015 Easton XL1 -5 model? Eddie
The 2015 Easton XL1 was replaced by the 2016 Easton MAKO XL. I have provided a link to that particular model below for you if you'd like to check it out. http://www.justbats.com/product/2016-easton-mako-xl-bbcor-baseball-bat--bb16mkl/22898/
John P.
What 2016 Easton bat is comparable to last year's Easton S2Z model? Vin
This 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) will be the most similar to the S2Z model released by Easton for the 2015 season. Both bats are hybrid bats (alloy barrel and composite handle) with balanced swing weights.
Ben
I was wondering what is the difference between the -3 XL and the Hybrid XL -3 version of the Z-CORE? clutchcam2
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a two-piece balanced design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Z-CORE XL features a one-piece alloy design with an end loaded swing weight. The Z-CORE Hybrid XL features a two-piece end loaded design with an alloy barrel and composite handle
Jason
My son is 14 years old. He is 6'1" and 150 lbs. He is a power hitter. Is an end loaded two-piece bat good for him? wils
Typically, power hitters prefer an end loaded bat. The extra mass you get behind the ball and the heavier swinging bat tend to be great features for power hitters. The swing weight and design ultimately comes down to player preference though. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a two-piece balanced design, but it can still be used by power hitters and provide great results.
Jason
Does this bat have a small barrel? Or will it be big enough for both power and contact hitters? M
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter like all other BBCOR bats. This barrel will be no larger or smaller when referring to sweet spot size than any other bat on the market. As for what type of hitter would benefit from this bat, it is a bat for both power and contact hitters alike.
Cameron
Is this bat comparable to the 2015 Easton MAKO? maddogg9
This 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) will be a two-piece, hybrid bat (alloy barrel and composite handle) with a balanced swing weight. It will differ from the MAKO models that have a two-piece design, but an all-composite build. Neither model will necessarily have an inherent advantage over the other in regard to performance, but you would need to decide which model you prefer most based upon the builds of the 2 bats (some players prefer composite barrels while other prefer alloy barrels).
Ben
What is the difference between the Easton 2016 Z-core Hybrid and the 2015 S2? Gary
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) and the 2015 Easton S2Z BBCOR bat are nearly identical. Both feature Hyperlite Matrix Allow, SIC Black Carbon Composite handle, ConneXion technology, and Z- Core internal technology. The biggest differences are going to be the paint scheme and handle grip.
Jake
What would be the advantage of the Hybrid BB16ZH over the BB16ZA one-piece aluminum model? Does the composite handle make that much of a difference for the hitter? My son is in 8th grade and plays travel ball as well so we are considering which one would be better for him. Darthdad76
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is a two-piece hybrid design with an alloy barrel and a composite handle which is said to help eliminate vibration and sting in comparison to a one-piece alloy model.
John P.
Since the 2016 Z-CORE Hybrid is almost identical to the 2015 S2Z, is it safe to say there is no break-in period for either bat? It's my son's first year using BBCOR bats and he is 5'4" and 110 lbs. Is a 31" / 28 oz the correct size for my 12 year old? Papa Steve
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 30" 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH. This particular model is a two-piece hybrid design that will feature an alloy barrel so you are correct in stating that this will not require a break-in period.
John P.
A kid on our team has the Z-CORE Hybrid XL and my son really liked it. He tried his bat and went 4-4 with two stand-up doubles; they were line drives to the fence. Now he wants one. However, the bat already has a rattle to it. Not sure why it would do that. Any ideas? When do the 2017 models normally come out? Jerry
Most rattles that occur with bats are the result of the adhesive glue that is applied to the end cap of the bats. When excess adhesive is applied it will dry up inside and form a solid structure (picture an icicle hanging from the gutter of a house). When a player begins to use the bat this excess glue will start to chip away/break and will lodge itself in the barrel causing a pebble like or grains of sand sound. This does not affect the performance of the bat whatsoever. AS for the 2017 models, these are typically released around the middle of June.
Cameron
I'm 5'6 and weigh 128 lbs. Is this a good bat for my first year of high school? brendan nolta
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH. This particular model would be an excellent choice for someone entering their first year of high school.
John P.
Is there a break-in period for this bat? brendan
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is a two-piece hybrid design that features an aluminum barrel so it will not require a break-in period.
John P.
Is this a good bat for a non-power hitter? nolta
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a two-piece balanced design and it is a great option for a non-power hitter.
Jason
I am a 6' and 170 pound power hitter. Would the Z-core Hybrid or Z-core Hybrid XL be a better bat for me? Cody
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a balanced swing weight while the Z-CORE XL will feature an end loaded swing weight. If you consider yourself to be a power hitter then you may benefit more from the end loaded Z-CORE XL.
John P.
Does the Z-CORE have more pop than the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR? Moose
Whether you would want the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) or the Easton Mako BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK) is going to be a personal preference. Both are going to be very quality bats. The Easton Z-CORE is a one piece aluminum bat and the Easton Mako is a two piece composite bat. Different players are going to prefer different styles of bats. Typically contact hitters prefer two piece designs while power hitters like the one piece design. But that is just a generalization and it really is up to the specific player.
Carter
What is the difference between this Z-CORE Hybrid and the Z-CORE Hybrid XL? tanky
The difference between this 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) and the Z-CORE Hybrid XL is that this regular Z-CORE Hybrid is balanced in its swing feel while the Z-CORE Hybrid XL is end-loaded in its swing feel.
Ben
How does the Z-CORE Hybrid compare to the Marucci CAT 7 Connect 2017? Have a 5'6" and 135 lbs 14U player. Is there a big difference in sweet spot with these bats? underpar
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 Connect BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBCC7) are going to be pretty similar. They are both going to be hybrid bats with a composite handle and an aluminum barrel. Where the difference lies is the fact that the Marucci Cat 7 Connect is going to feature a slight end load while the Z-CORE is going to be a completely balanced bat.
Carter
Does this bat have a stiff feel or does it have flex? Coach
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH has a two-piece construction that allows for additional barrel flex.
Angelique
My son is 5'10" and 145 lbs. What size bat would he need? And does this bat have a pop/crack or a ping sound at contact? MSA Baseball
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) in the 32" length as long as he can handle the 29 oz weight. This hybrid bat will have a ping noise at contact due to the alloy barrel, but the ping won't be as distinct off this hybrid bat as it would be off an all-alloy bat.
Ben
My son is 15, a sophomore in high school, and he is 5'10" tall and 230 lbs. What size would be best? bob
We would recommend either a 33" or 34" bat size.
Kyle J.
Is this bat USSSA certified? Michelle
The 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH is only BBCOR certified. It technically does not feature the USSSA certification, but typically leagues that allow big barrel bats and require USSSA certified bats will allow BBCOR bats. That is something to best check with your league officials first though.
Jason
My son is a 13 year old. He weighs 135 and is 5'0". What length bat would you recommend? Mark
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH.
Jason
What size bat should a freshman who is 5'7" about 150 lbs get? bbsbdad
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 32 inch 29 ounce model.
Cameron
What size bat should my son get if he is 6'0" and 145 lbs and is a freshman? thekid
Based on your son's height, weight and age, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
What size bat should I get? I am 15 years old 5'10 and 185 lbs. matt baseball
Based on your size, I would suggest the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in the 33" 30oz size.
Logan
I'm 6'3, 185 lbs and will be 15 in a few months. Would a 34"/31 oz be the right size for me? SOS12
Yes. If you are comfortable with the 31 oz weight of the 34" size of a BBCOR bat, I think that you would be just fine using this 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) in the 34"/31 oz size.
Ben
I am 5'1" and 14 years of age. What size of bat should I use? Costco
For someone that is 14 and 5'1" seeking a BBCOR bat, it would be best to get a balanced bat like the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 31 inch, possibly even a 30 inch depending on strength and weight of the current bat being used, model.
Cameron
How does this bat compare to the 2014 Easton S1? Is this the bat they replaced it with? What other bats are similar to the S1? JT5
The Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15S1) is going to feature a fully composite two piece design while the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZH) features a one piece aluminum design. The bat that is going to be more comparable to that Easton S1 is going to be the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17MK) as it also features a two piece fully composite design.
Carter
My son is 14, 5'10" and 130 pounds. Which size, 32/29? wt
Based on your son's height and weight, as well as age, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
I'm 5'7" and weigh 160. I'm a junior in high school and I lift weights everyday. I have a lot of upper body strength. What would be the length and weight recommended that I use? Landon Williams
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 33 inch model.
Cameron
I'm 5'10" and weigh about 125-130 pounds. What size of this bat should I get? Parker
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 31 inch model. If you want to get a 32 inch bat (this would better suit your height) it might be wise to shorten up on the handle to better control the barrel head of the bat.
Cameron
I am 14 years old and currently have this model (Z-CORE Hybrid) in a 32 inch size. I'm 5'1" but have a lot of arm strength. Is this the right size for me? Anthony
Based on your age and height we would typically recommend getting the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH in a 31 inch model. Since this bat is going to be slightly end-loaded one could swing a 32 inch if they do not feel it causes any issues with their bat speed or bat plane. Ultimately it comes down to what each player feels like is the best fit for them.
Cameron
I have a 11 year old son. He is 5'6" tall and 170 lbs, what would be a good bat for him? Steven Blackwell
We would suggest a 32" length of bat for his height and weight. For his age, he probably would use Senior League or Youth Big Barrel bats. These are terms that mean the same thing, which are a category of bats for kids below high school level. If his league requires BBCOR, then you want to look at those bats instead.
Kyle J.
We just bought this bat. Do we need to break it in? nick
No, the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH features a HMX (Hyperlite Matrix Alloy) Barrel which does not need to be broken in.

Is this bat end-loaded, handle-heavy, or balanced? How would the swing weight of this bat compare to that of the Omaha 515? Also, what size bat should a 6'2", 200 lb sophomore get? How long should I expect this bat to last if I treat it well and do not hit the dimple batting cage balls with it? bobby
This bat is a balanced model, and should have a swing weight comparable to the Omaha 516. We would suggest a 33-34" length of bat for someone that size. Life expectancy is impossible to predict as we don't know how often each person players each year, but a rough estimate is 1-2 years for most bats with good care.

Is this two-piece half and half version of this bat or the one-piece alloy version better for a power hitter? Which one of these bats has a more balanced swing weight? bro
Both bats will have nearly identical swing weight in terms of balance. Generally speaking, power hitters tend to prefer a one-piece design for the stiffer feel, while contact hitters like more flex that the two-piece design offers.

How long should I expect this bat to last if I treat it well and do not hit batting cage dimple balls with it? bro
That would depend if you play year 'round or only play during the spring. A rough estimate is probably 1-2 years depending on use.

My son is 6'1" and 180 lbs. I ordered a 34/31 for him. Should that be about right? old welder
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 33" model of the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH. However, the 34" model will work if your player has good strength and bat speed.

What length bat should a 5'8" 160 pound sophomore swing that is a strong hitter? Leo
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 32" bat. However, we no longer have that size available for the 2016 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZH. The 33" model could work for you if you are comfortable with your bat speed and strength though.
