Description

The next generation of Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3! The VELO has earned a reputation for being one of the lightest swinging BBCOR bats on the market, and the new version completely backs it up. Thanks to the VELO's Comp-Lite Composite End Cap, unnecessary weight is removed from the barrel of the bat, shifting the MOI towards the players hands. If the swing speed you generate with this bat doesn't turn heads at the park, the maximum pop and resonating "ping" created by the bat's stiff flex, fully alloy construction, and AP (Acoustic Performance) Technology surely will. Like many of you already know, some bats that focus on maximizing swing speed fall short in other performance categories. But not the VELO. Not only is this an extremely well-balanced design, but its barrel offers Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp 2.0) Technology for an extended barrel and sweet spot. Explosive swing speed and a massive barrel: a game-winning combination! This bat is BBCOR Certified for High School and Collegiate play, and it is backed by a full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Pick up the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 today at JustBats.com. The shipping is always free, and we're always here for you - from ClickToHit!

Pros: this bat is amazing i used it for 3 games and i was just dropping bombs. it has a super loud ping g that does hurt your ears when hitting but i like it. a little bit of sting when hitting it to close down the barrel, just wear batting gloves. lay down some pine tar on the barrel and watch it fly, dont use in cages with those yeloow rubber fake balls. overall great bat. also has a grip similar to lizard skin works the same.

Cons: Will hold of on the durability issue until I have a full season out of it. Had a Rawlings Trio and it died a quick death just after warrantee expired. A great bat otherwise. Any bat should last a full high school season, post season, summer and then Fall before going flat

Great, Balanced Aluminum Bat DE Baseball Dad player

Pros: After using the Velo for three weeks, my 15U player likes it a lot. He prefers a balanced bat, and the balance of this Velo is as good as advertised. The bat has exceptional pop -- the extended barrel seems to make a positive difference. The grip is also outstanding.

Cons: The only con is the amount of feedback when he hits off the end of the barrel. The vibration can be painful. It's hard to avoid this with an aluminum bat, so I can't say this flaw is particular to the Velo.

Great bat! Pete Pichardo parent

Pros: This bat is well balanced & has great pop. My son is a singles & doubles hitter. This bat is perfect for a kid trying to bat for average. The ball gets through the infield in a hurry. My son is a sophomore & is not a power hitter yet. This bat is perfect for him, because it fits his body style. The bat has a huge sweet spot & therefore he hits the ball hard 95% of the time. This is our first Rawlings & we love the bat.

Cons: It has a thicker handle than most bats. It takes a while to get used too. I think that's why the bat is very balanced & not top heavy at all.

Amazing bat... Dad parent

Pros: Amazing pops. Doubles and triples are regular occurrences now. My son didn't like the sound it makes at first but now he loves the big sound because it's usually a deep shot. A couple of his teammates are using the Marucci Cat 6 and the Easton Z-Core but this Velo outshines both those bats easily.

Cons: Extremely loud noise with contacts. Be prepared because it's a lot louder than other aluminum bats!!! Much louder than the Cat 6 and the Z-Core.

Velo Review Dave coach

Pros: I bought this for the HS baseball team this year as the high end bat for the team. The boys have really taken to this bat, they like the balance and pop, but they all like the ping when the ball is hit well. We played our 8th game of the season on Friday and the first really warm day up here in NH for the season, I had my 4 hitter a SR hit a 2 run HR what I would estimate to be around 410' over our right field bleachers and football press tower.

Cons: The finish has some nicks in it and the boys have handled it pretty well so far I think. The ball marks are hard to come off and when they do the paint is definitely affected.

Pros: My son hit with someones 2015 and was in top 3 on team with batting average. Decided to get him the 2016 model. He is a bit smaller than other kids but with this bat he is smashing ropes. I hit with it a couple times and you do feel little vibration if not on sweet spot but when you do hit sweet spot feels like swinging at air, and will send ball screaming. Personally like the bat cause all size players can swing it and has good pop. very well balanced bat. And priced well compared to others that ain't as good. Highly recommended

Not for me, but excellent bat Greg player

Pros: Its a very nice bat with above average pop, very loud and intimidating, and extremely light

Cons: Its too light and feels awkward for a power guy, the grip may need to get replaced by some lizard skin which isnt a hard fix but still is a neccessity, wouldnt reccomend it for a power guy

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I'm am currently using the Mako BBCOR but I need something new to swing. I am looking for something with balance and a large sweet spot. Do you think I should go with the Velo, S1, or the Louisville 916? Also, are there any differences between this new Velo and the old model? Aj
I would say that the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3), the 2015 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15S1), or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) would be great bats for what you are looking for. However, the MAKO would have a bit bigger sweet spot than all three of those.
Patrick
Would this be more for a power hitter or contact hitter? ColbyJack

Patrick
If you hit the ball off the end of the bat, will there be a lot of vibration? Also, will the ball not go as far because of the composite end? T-Sizzle
Most bats, not just the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3), will not hit as well if the ball is hit off the end of the bat. Hitting in that area will also cause sting or vibration to the player's hands.
Patrick

The sweet spot between the the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBRV3) and the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 will be very similar.

Marcus
Which has a larger sweet spot, this or the Omaha 516? sfbball
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will have slightly bigger sweet spot than the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) but it would be very close. They are both great options.

Jason

Since the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BBRV3) is an alloy bat, it does not require a break-in period. Only bats with a composite barrel need to be broken in.
Marcus
I am a power hitter and I prefer a bat that is top heavy. I really don't like balanced bats. So my question is, is this bat balanced or a little top heavy? Cameron
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is very well balanced. If you like an end-loaded or barrel heavy feel, I would not recommend this bat.
Patrick

Patrick

Patrick
Can this bat be used for power? mike
Yes, if a player considers themselves a power hitter and they prefer a bat with a balanced swing weight, then this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) would be an excellent model for use!
Ben
My son is 5 foot 6 and weighs 145 pounds. He has to use BBCOR this year in middle school. He has been hitting a drop 5 Exogrid. He likes the Velo but I think a two-piece is a better choice. He is a semi power hitter. We need suggestions on type and size. Mike
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is well balanced and would be a nice choice for a player new to BBCOR bats. Preference between one and two-piece bats is up to the individual player rather than one being better for everybody. I would say based on height and weight, he should use a 32 inch size.
Patrick
What is the difference between this bat and the 2016 5150? kpf
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) has a lighter swing weight and a bit more elongated barrel than the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53).
Patrick
What size bat would you recommend for someone that is 5'8" 150 lbs? Nick
For someone with that height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
John
I am a 5 foot 6 and weigh 125 pounds. I am going into my first year of freshman ball and I am a contact hitter. Do you think this bat is a better selection then a two-piece? patrick
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is a great bat for a contact hitter. A two-piece design could work well also. The preference would vary by player. Typically one-piece bats are stiffer and preferred by power hitters. Two-piece bats have more flex and are usually preferred by contact hitters, but this is not always the case.
Patrick
I'm 6'2" and weigh 185 lbs. What size should I use? TS
For a player of your height and weight, I would recommend going with a 34" 31 oz. model of the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
Marcus
What is the difference between this model, and the 2016 Trio? EBESS17
The difference between the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) compared to the 2016 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRT3) is the VELO being a one-piece alloy construction versus a three-piece hybrid design for the TRIO.
Cameron
What is the difference between the Cat 6 and the Velo? I hit for power and to all fields, which bat would be best? JT
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC614) are extremely similar by design. The only real difference would be that the VELO is a bit more balanced. Either bat would be a great option for your style of hitting. The preference would come down to which brand or style you like more.
Patrick
Would you recommend a balanced bat to a power hitter who hits more to the pull side? mark
Power hitters typically would prefer a one-piece, end-loaded bat but it is all personal preference. A two-piece and/or balanced bat can be just as effective.
Cameron
Which bat would you recommend to a power hitter? The Rawlings VELO or the Rawlings 5150? the monkey
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) would be great options for a power hitter. With that being said, the extended barrel and sweet spot of the VELO - compared to Rawlings 5150, would be the better route if price is not a factor.
Cameron
Is this one of the top BBCOR bats in the game? zach
There are many BBCOR bats on the market that would work well. With that said, the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is one of the more popular BBCOR bats on the market due to price point, pop, durability and balanced feel.
Cameron
What size would be good for my son who is 15 years old? He is 6 foot 2 and weighs 150 pounds. sc
Based on height and weight, we would recommend a 33 inch size of the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3).
Patrick
What size Rawlings VELO baseball bat would be best for my 16 year old son who is 5'10'' and weighs 153 lbs? Abram
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
John
I am 5'6" and 128 lbs. What length do you suggest? Chris
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
Jason
My son is 5'9" and 130 lbs. What size do you recommend? MB
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
Jason
I have been told that the bat needs to be -3 and BESR certified. Does the 2016 Rawlings VELO measure up to this? Ali
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 does feature a -3 length to weight ratio but it is not BESR certified. The 2016 Rawlings VELO is BBCOR certified and approved for high school and collegiate play.
John
This bat is listed for sale with the BBRV3. However, some are listed cheaper without the BBRV3. Are there two different bats? If so, what is the difference? Glenn
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is going to be a BBCOR certified baseball bat that features a -3 length to weight ratio and is legal for play at the high school and collegiate level. The other 2016 Rawlings VELO bats that you see listed at a cheaper price are senior league baseball bats that will feature anywhere from a -5 to a -12 length to weight ratio.
John P.
Is this a one-piece construction? Billy
Yes, the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is a one-piece all alloy design.
John
I am a 5'4" freshman and I am trying to decide which bat is better for me, the 5150 or the VELO. What bat would you recommend I should get? John
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 would be great bats to consider. The advantage of the VELO would be the extended barrel and sweet spot - compared to Rawlings 5150.
Cameron
What is the difference and which is better between the Velo and the Vexxum? jp
The difference between this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and a Vexxum will be that this VELO has an all-alloy handle and barrel, but is topped off with a composite end-cap (to bring down the swing weight of the bat). The Vexxum actually has a composite handle and alloy barrel. I would make a decision based upon which model's build suits you better.
Ben
What is the difference between the VELO -3 and the 5150 -3? LM
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is made out of a different alloy. This alloy give the VELO a longer barrel, bigger sweet spot, and a more balanced swing weight.
Jason
How does this bat compare - pop, feel, weight distribution - to the DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR DXVDC from a couple years ago? Jon
This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will have the same level of performance as the Voodoo model, but this VELO will be more balanced than the Voodoo.
Ben
What is the smallest -3 bat made? poncho
The smallest size of this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is the 31"/28 oz size. However, the smallest BBCOR size of bat that we carry from a different manufacturer is the 29"/26 oz size.
Ben
How does it compare in terms of pop and bat speed to the DeMarini CF7? kaden
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the DeMarini CF7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCFC) are well balanced bats with great pop. The biggest difference will be that the Velo is a one piece alloy, whereas the CF7 is a two-piece composite.
Damon
My son is 5'5", 150 lbs, and pretty strong for a 15 year old. What size bat would you recommend? Jay
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
John P.
What is the difference between last year's VELO and this year's model? HOMERUNDANIEL
The only real update to this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) from the 2015 VELO model (besides the cosmetics) is that this 2016 model features new Acoustic Performance technology that strengthens the alloy and allows for a full "ping" noise at contact.
Ben
My son is 14, 5'10" 165 lbs and has quickly outgrown his 32" Easton XL1 -8 from last year. How does this compare to the XL1 -3? I cannot find that bat anymore but this one was recommended. danielle
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 will be a one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight. Compared to the the Easton XL1 (which has a two-piece, composite design with an end-loaded swing weight) you will notice some differences. Both would be great options to consider but finding the XL1 will be tough as that bat has been discontinued and not produced in Easton's 2016 line.
Cameron
I am 5'1" and 165 pounds, what size bat should I get? bauleo
For your height and weight, we recommend a 31" 28 oz. bat.
Angelique
I am 5'10" about 140 lbs. Should I get the 32.5" bat length? Tom
Based upon your height and weight, I would say that as long as you can handle the 29.5 oz weight of the 32.5" option of this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3), then you could certainly go with that size option of this bat.
Ben
I am a 5'8" 160 pound junior in high school and my first question is what length I should be swinging? For a lead off type hitter that is hitting gap to gap, would the VELO or the Louisville 716 be a better bat to swing? Niz
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
John P.
I am 5'11" 200 pound varsity player. What size should I get? Eric
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 in a 33 inch 30 ounce model.
Cameron
How would you compare this bat to the Rip-It Element TWO? Tom
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece aluminum construction while the Rip-It Element TWO is a two-piece hybrid design that features an aluminum barrel and a composite handle. That is going to be the main difference between those two models.
John P.
What has better pop? The 2016 VELO or the 5150? weeman
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 will have similar amounts of pop. Being that the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is slightly more balanced, one should be able to generate slightly higher bat speed rates which would make this bat potentially hotter than the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53.
Cameron
Does the 2016 VELO or 2015 MAKO have more pop? Also, what's the difference between the 2016 VELO and the 2016 TRIO? garett
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2015 MAKO are very highly reviewed in the pop category. I would not say that one has more pop than the other as that is going to be very subjective depending upon who you ask. The 2016 VELO is a one-piece aluminum design while the 2016 TRIO is a three-piece hybrid design that features an aluminum barrel and a composite handle which is said to help reduce vibration.
John P.
My son is 6'1" and 170 lbs. He swings a 33" MAKO now. I am looking for a new bat, what size VELO should he swing? Mike
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
Jason
(1) Is this bat durable enough to use 3-4 years? (2) How does it match up to its previous models in 2015 and 2014? jpchapman
(1) Unfortunately, I would not be able to guarantee that this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will be able to to last 4 seasons of high school and summer baseball. It is pretty rare that an alloy bat or composite is able to withstand that much use over that many years and not lose performance with time. (2) This BBRV3 will built in a very similar style to the 2015 and 2014 editions of the VELOs. However, this 2016 model is getting as good of reviews as any of them.
Ben
Would you recommend this bat or the Anderson Flex? Peter
In regard to the quality of reviews received on both bats here at JustBats, I would recommend this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) over the Anderson Flex BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15FLEX).
Ben
Could this bat be used in colder temperatures, such as low 30's outside? bob
Ideally, you do not want to use the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 in temperatures below 55 degrees. Temperatures below 55 degrees can cause the ball to become more dense and that can affect the performance of the bat and durability.
Jason
I am looking for a balanced bat with a lot of pop. I am a contact hitter/gap to gap hitter. Would you recommend the Rawlings Velo or 5150? Matt
Both of these bats would be great options for a player of your skill set. With that said, would lean towards the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 over the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 due to the larger sweet spot and the more balanced swing weight of the VELO.
Cameron
I'm 5'11" and 130 pounds. What size would you recommend? Nick
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.
John P.
I am looking for a balanced bat that will help me produce consistent line drives. I am a contact hitter. Would you recommend the LS Prime 916 or the VELO? Matt
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 would be great options to consider for a contact hitter as both bats will feature a balanced swing weight. With that said, these bats will feature different constructions. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 is a three-piece, fully composite design while the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece alloy design.
Cameron
I am trying to decide what bat i want for my last 3 years of HS baseball. Which VELO should I get (2014, 2015 or 2016)? Or should I get a PRIME 916? trenton baseball
If you like a single-piece bat with a balanced feel then I would recommend a VELO model. To be honest, all VELOs are built pretty similarly and all have great performance reviews. However, this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) has received excellent reviews since its release and could be considered the best BBCOR bat available right now. However, if you want a two-piece, all-composite bat with a balanced swing weight, then be sure and consider the Prime 916.
Ben
What would you recommend the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163)? sluggerbane
Both are great bats. If you are looking for a balanced one-piece alloy model with great pop the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is a very popular model.
Damon
Can't afford the BBRV3. Is the 2015 BBRVB just as good for the price? Gray
The only real updates that were made for this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) from the 2015 BBRVB model were the Acoustic Performance Technology and the new cosmetics. Besides those differences, the bats should be pretty much the same. I would recommend getting the 2015 edition to get the best value for a bat.
Ben
Would this bat be good for a hitter that is both a contact and a power hitter? Flo
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece alloy design which is typically preferred by power hitters but it is also extremely balanced which is a feature preferred by contact hitters. This bat will absolutely be a good choice for someone who is both a contact and a power hitter.
John P.
Is it ok to use the sand filled total control balls to practice hitting with this bat? Will hitting with these sand filled training balls make the bat lose pop? dad
We would not recommend using your game bat, the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3, to continually practice with the sand filled total control balls. These balls are not the same weight consistency as a normal baseball and could cause durability issues sooner than you might wish.
Cameron
I am trying to decide between the new 2016 VELO BBCOR or the 2015 black VELO BBCOR. What is the difference? Which one would you recommend? johnny baseball
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 features the Precision-Optimized-Performance (pOp 2.0) Technology, which is said to help create additional barrel flex and a larger sweet spot. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 also features the AP - Acoustic-Performance, which helps maximize the alloy strength. Other than cosmetics, these upgrades are going to be the biggest differences between the two models.
Nick
I am 5'7" and 125 pounds. What size should I get this bat in? dustin44
Based on your height and weight, you would be right at the cutoff of using a 32" and 33" length. I recommend looking at well you swing your current size and if you have room to increase the length/weight. If your bat speed is fast, then I would recommend going up in size.
Nick
I am 5'9" and 140 lbs. I hit for power and I'm trying to find a bat that will quicken my bat swing, so I can hit balls farther. I don't know which bat to choose. The 2016 Rawlings VELO, or the Louisville Slugger Omaha 516. What will suit me better? Chad Saner
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 are both excellent options for what you are looking to do. However, the VELO has arguably the most balanced swing weight of any BBCOR bat and is going to be the best option for increasing your bat speed.
Jason
(1) What separates the 2016 VELO from the 2015 version? (2) Can you explain the pOp 2.0 technology to me a little further? Sammy
(1) This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will be extremely similar to the 2015 VELO (BBRVB). The biggest thing that will separate the 2 bats is the cosmetics and the Acoustic Performance (AP) Technology on this 2016 model (AP technology strengthens the alloy to create a louder "ping" noise. (2) The pOp 2.0 technology is applied to both versions of the VELO to isolate extra weight into smaller regions on the barrel to further increase bat speed and eliminate the need for those cumbersome rings found inside some BBCOR bats. As well, for the 2016 version, Rawlings has noted that it creates additional barrel flex and a larger sweet spot.
Ben
I'm a contact hitter. I'm trying to decide between the Rawlings VELO, Rawlings 5150, and the Combat Vigor. What should I get? pioneerball18
All bats being considered will be built with more of a single-piece design (this VELO and the 5150 will technically have a composite end-cap as well). As well, all options will be balanced in their swing weight. The Vigor will differ from this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the 5150 since the Vigor is a composite bat. In regard to the number and quality of reviews, I would recommend this VELO as the best option to purchase from the bats being considered.
Ben
What is the difference between this bat and the 2016 5150? Domingo Ayala
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 are similar bats overall. They both have one-piece alloy designs and balanced swing weights. The VELO is made out of VELO alloy provides the bat with a longer barrel and bigger sweet spot. It also features a more balanced swing weight for a lighter feeling bat.
Jason
I got a 2015 VELO for my birthday. Mine has been rattling and I had to send it back to Rawlings and I'm getting this model. Do the VELOs tend to break or not have good durability? freshman
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is very highly reviewed in the durability category. I would recommend checking out our bat care tips page that I have provided below for optimal bat life. http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/bat-care/
John P.
I can't decide between the Marucci CAT 6 or this bat. Please help. luke
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC614 are excellent, high-quality, one-piece aluminum bats. If these are the two models that you're deciding between there really is no bad option.
John P.
What is the difference between this bat and the 2015 Rawlings TRIO (balanced)? Domingo Ayala
This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will differ from the 2015 TRIO (balanced model) as this VELO has a single-piece, all-alloy design (topped off with a composite-lite end cap). The TRIO was outfitted with a composite handle and alloy barrel (the handle and barrel are seamlessly connected and the bat is also topped with a composite-lite end cap). In regard to balance, I would give the edge to the VELO, but both bats are very well reviewed. I would make a decision based upon which design is most attractive to you.
Ben
My son will be playing 14U USSSA ball this year. I've seen conflicting information, some say it's legal others illegal. Without the USSSA stamp can he use it or not? southpaw dad
Based on the USSSA website 14U and below leagues are allowed to use 2 3/4" or 2 5/8" barrels. The bat must either have the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp or the BBCOR certification stamp. If you chose to use a BBCOR bat it must 29". With that being said the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) would be legal based on the posted league rules.
Jake
I'm 5'6" and 170 lbs. What size model should I get? zlee
Based upon your height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting an option of this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) in the 32" length. As long as you feel that you can handle 29" weight of the 32" model, I would recommend this bat in that size.
Ben

Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3.

Which one is better the 2016 Rawlings VELO or the Adidas RBZ? big dinger ballard
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2016 Adidas EQT X3 RBZ RocketBallz BBCOR Baseball Bat: X3 RBZ are both great bats to consider. These two bats will differ in design and construction and so it will come down to your personal preference. The 2016 Adidas EQT X3 RBZ RocketBallz BBCOR Baseball Bat: X3 RBZ will be a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight. This bat will have the advantage of reduced vibration from off-centered hits (due to connection point this bat will flex), perform better in warmer weather (above 70 degrees) and will have a lighter swing weight feel. This bat will require a break-in period before being at optimal condition (roughly 50-100 pitches) and is more prone to cracking in colder weather. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece fully alloy design with a balanced swing weight. This bat is hot out-of-the-wrapper and will not flex on impact (can help generate more power but will sting more on off-centered hits). In colder weather this bat will hold up better from a durability standpoint (this bat is more likely to dent).
Cameron
I can't decide between a BBCOR Rawlings VELO 2016 or a Voodoo Raw 2016. Which one should I get? baller
Both bats are excellent choices and it really depends on what type of hitter you are to determine which option is best for you. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 features a balanced swing weight and it is typically a better option for a contact hitter. The Voodoo Raw has an end loaded swing weight and it is typically a better option for a power hitter.
Jason
I am 5'11", 150 lbs and I don't feel any weight difference between the 32" and 33" bat. Which size do you think i should get? Sean
If you can handle the 30 oz weight of the larger 33" bat, then I would recommend getting that size option of this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3). If you can handle it effectively, the longer and heavier bat will allow you to put more force into the ball and hit it harder and further.
Ben
I am 5'2" 120 pounds, and a contact hitter. Which length should I get? hay
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 in a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Cameron
Is the VELO game ready or does it need to be broken in? cordan21
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is fully aluminum and it does not require a break-in period. It will be hot out of the wrapper.
Jason
Which bat has a longer extended barrel: the VELO or the Easton Z-CORE HMX? Rich D.
Overall, neither this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) or the Z-CORE HMX will have a true advantage in regard to barrel length. However, in regard to number and average rating of customer reviews at JustBats, I would recommend this VELO to you over the Z-CORE HMX.
Ben
My son is 5'4" and 105 lbs. He is only a contact hitter. Would this bat be good for him? jr
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 30 or 31 inch 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3. The VELO is extremely well balanced and would be an excellent option for a contact hitter.
John P.
Is this bat balanced like the 2014 XL1? br
This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will be more balanced in its swing weight than the 2014 XL1 BBCOR bat (XL1 models are actually built to feel end-loaded).
Ben
I am a contact hitter, do you think i should get the 2016 VELO or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916? Which bat will give you more pop? Dinger
For a contact hitter, one is going to be served better with a bat that features a balanced swing weight. Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the LS Prime 916 will be balanced and the Prime 916 will also have a two-piece design which can make the barrel head slightly easier to control. Both bats bats have shown the ability to produce well in the pop category with the VELO having better durability scores.
Cameron

John P.
I am a line drive hitter. What size would you prefer for a player at 5'6", 130 lbs? Eli
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) in the 31" length. As long as you can handle the 28 oz weight of the 31" option of this bat, I would recommend that size option for you. This VELO will be evenly weighted and easy to control. That should assist your style of hitting as a line drive hitter.
Ben
Should I get the VELO or 5150 if I am a contact hitter who is 5 foot 7 100 pounds? Tokane27
Both the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBR53) are great for contact hitters. The Velo will have a longer barrel and sweetspot than the 5150 and be slightly more balanced.
Damon
Is this a power hitter bat? arod
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 has a balanced swing weight, so it is typically considered a good option for a contact hitter. The one-piece design provides a stiff feel though and that can work well for a power hitter.
Jason
I am 5'7", 135 lbs. I hit for consistent base hits to extra base hits, but I can bring some power. Is the 2016 VELO or 2016 Select 716 a better fit for me? Markowitzbaseball@gmail.com
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a BBCOR .50 baseball bat in the 31" length. I think that length option will be sufficient as long as you can effectively use the 28 oz weight. This VELO is an excellent bat as it has a single-piece, all-alloy design (topped with a composite end-cap) and a very balanced swing weight. Due to its design, the bat allows for a very stiff feel at connection. The Select 716 will be different as it has the hybrid build (alloy barrel and composite handle). The 716 has a slight end-load (in some hitters' opinions) and allows for more flex at contact. When deciding between this VELO and the Select 716, you will need to determine the weighting you prefer in a bat (balanced or end-loaded) and if you like the stiffness or flex at contact.
Ben
My son is 13, almost 14. His school wants him to play varsity next year and I'm trying to find the best BBCOR for him. He has mainly been a contact hitter. He is 5'9" and 125 lbs. kc
The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. This would be a great bat to consider for someone of your son's height and weight as well as his current hitting abilities (great bat for contact hitters). Based on his height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 in a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Cameron
Does this bat have a larger sweet spot then the 2016 Easton Mako? Kaden

Cooper

I am considering this bat and a Marucci CAT 6. Which bat is more balanced? Also, my son is a contact hitter who is 5'4" and 110 lbs. Which bat would be a better fit for him? SJ
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend that he swing a 31" length. As for the two bats, I would lean to the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3. Both bats are great options and will perform well with good durability, but the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is one of the most balanced bats on the market. I think both bats would be great options for your son.
Nick

Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 33 inch model. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the Easton MAKO are both great bats to consider. The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a one-piece alloy bat with a balanced swing weight while the Easton MAKO is a two-piece fully composite bat with balanced swing weight. The VELO will be hot out of the wrapper while the MAKO will require roughly a 50 pitch break-in.

For your height and weight, we recommend a 30" 27 oz. BBCOR bat. You are right on the cusp of a 31" 28 oz. size. If you feel that you can handle the extra inch in length and ounce in weight, you can certainly move up a 31".

I'm 5'8" and 130 lbs. I like a balanced bat, but can hit for some power. What bat do you recommend? (I like the CAT 7, VELO, and MAKO)? parkergolden
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a BBCOR baseball bat in the 31" or 32" length (as long as you can handle the subsequent weights of those lengths). All of the models that you are considering come with balanced swing weights. However, I believe that this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) might have the slight advantage in regard to being the most balanced. If you are wanting an extremely balanced swinging bat with a one-piece, all-alloy design; I would suggest this VELO for you.

Ben
I currently swing a 33" bat. Is there a noticeable difference between a 33" and 33.5" bat? ??
Some player's will be able to pick up any type of bat and be able to swing it regardless of the length and weight. However, some other players will be very sensitive to the size of bat that they will be swinging. Technically, a 33.5" model of this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) will be a .5" longer and a .5 oz heavier than the 33" model of the same bat. You'll need to decide if you can handle that extra length and weight before moving to the 33.5" size.
Ben
What is the difference between the Rawlings VELO BBRVB and the Rawlings VELO BBRV3? batman

Carter
Is this bat suppose to crack? pop
All bats are susceptible to breaking and eventually every bat will either lose it performance or break down (crack or dent). However, this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) has a barrel made of alloy material and typically bats with alloy barrels will dent when they break down (usually, an alloy barrel bat doesn't crack). However, if you bat has broken within 12 months from the purchase date, I would recommend reaching out to Rawlings to begin the warranty replacement process. You can reach out to Rawlings at the following phone number: (877-225-1041).

This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) is not specifically designed for use in cold weather. However, you could still use it in a game if the temperature is near 55 degrees. You would just need to limit the use to one player. However, if you were in a practice, I would recommend ceasing use of this bat completely if the temperature is at or near 55 degrees..
Ben
What's the difference in the VELO bats: (BBRVB, BBRV3 and the BB7V)? jay
Overall, when comparing these VELO bats, the differences between all 3 bats are going to be very minimal. From the 2015 VELO (BBRVB) to this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3), the biggest change besides the cosmetics was the Acoustic Performance feature on this 2016 bat that strengthened the alloy and increased the ping noise on the 2016 bat. From this 2016 VELO to the 2017 VELO (BB7V) they upgraded the composite material used for the end-cap and also improved the pOp technology on the 2017 bat (flex and performance should be improved on the 2017 bat).
Ben
What's the best BBCOR bat ever made? Mo
There are a lot of great BBCOR bats that have been made through the years with the Rawlings VELO models being some of the more sought after bats on the market. Really comes down to the personal preference of the player with regards to one-piece/two-piece and/or alloy versus composite barrel.

The 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a very evenly balanced bat constructed in the form of a one-piece fully alloy. For a player of your height and weight, the charts will recommend a 32 inch bat but a 33 inch bat would serve you better in the long run. With some added strength gained in the weight room the weight of a 33 inch bat should not pose any issues.

I am trying to decide between the 2017 Z-Core Whiteout or this bat. What is the difference? Cole Shively
Both this 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the 2017 Easton Z-CORE SPEED Limited Whiteout BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZSW) are going to be very comparable. They both feature one piece aluminum designs. The biggest difference is going to be the kind of alloy each uses. The Z-CORE uses a more traditional aluminum while the Rawlings Velo uses an acoustic alloy with gives it a very loud "ping" sound.

Kyle J.
I am debating getting my 9th grade son this bat. How does it compare to the Louisville Slugger 517? Is one better than the other? Troy
This 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRV3) and the Omaha 517 have the same general design as both bats are one-piece, all-alloy bats for the most part. The big difference is that this VELO has a composite end-cap that makes it slightly more balanced. However, both bats are very highly rated and I think your player would be happy with either option.
Ben
What is the difference between the 2016 VELO and 2017 VELO? bryan
The main differences between the 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 and the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will be the colorway and the grip tape on the 2017 model is thicker to help with vibration reduction. Other than those two things these two bats would be the same as they feature the same alloy.

If I was to buy a used bat would it still be as good as buying a new one? john
If you were to buy a used option of the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 it would be slightly used but nothing would be wrong with the bat itself. Performance wise, they would be like new but used options do not come with a warranty through the manufacturer.

Why is the 2016 Velo more expensive than the 2017 model? Duffer
Our prices are mostly set by supply and demand, and 2016 models are difficult to find new.

Am I able to see images of the used version of this bat? Kj
Unfortunately no, we do not have images of the used model. It is listed as "Good" condition, which means it is still in very good shape, but it will show some signs of use such as small scuff marks, etc.

I'm an 8th grader in Colorado and I'm 5"3 / 110 pounds, what size bat should I get for high school next year? GETOUTBALLL
The Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 is a very balanced option for you to transfer into BBCOR bats. With the specifications you provided, we would suggest a 30 inch option. However, you could go up to a 31 inch and choke up as you grow into the bat.

I'm looking for a BBCOR bat in the $200 dollar range - 32 inch. What models do you recommend? Rick Zumpano
Here is a link to all the BBCOR models we currently have in stock in the 32", $200 or less category: https://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~bbcor/not~deals~bat%20pack/length~32%20inch/price~$100%20-%20$199.99/?page=2 Of these, I would probably recommend looking at the Rawlings VELO, any of the Louisville Slugger models, or any of the Marucci models.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
