Outstanding Big Barrel Bat Ryan A player
Pros: Great feel and pop in -10. I need two bats because I play in two leagues that require 2 3/4" and 2 5/8" barrels-so I'll probably get the 2 5/8" for when I need it. Performance is great and the ball feels good coming off. Really balanced.
Cons: The custom lizard skin grip is nice, but I usually prefer athletic tape
Good pop, poor durability Jason coach
Pros: Good pop and balance.
Cons: Have sent 2 in for warrantee replacement due to denting. I'd suggest for 10u and younger. Only used in games and live batting cages with baseballs with 12u player.
Just what I wanted. Chris parent
Pros: This bat is durable and it has the pop we were looking for. This is the bat everybody on the team wants to use!!
Cons: I haven't found any cons.
2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Big Barrel 2 3/4 Jerry Sanders coach
Pros: Has a lot of pop coming off the bat, my 10 yr. old loves this bat, not to mention he follows the college world series and that's all he see's them using. He's been swinging a 28 (-10) but know I have just upgraded him to a 29 (-10)
Cons: The cons are, I just sent the 28 inch back in because of dents, my son is ten and plays 11u major, I don't know if it's because he is swinging the 28 inch and the 29 inch may be a little stronger so we are trying that in terms of longevity.
Louisville slugger Omaha 517 Baseball dude 17 player
Pros: It has a very big sweet spot, no sting what so ever, and it hits line drives even when it is not good contact,it is just the right amount of weight for you to be able to swing fast but still heavy enough to drive it over the outfielders heads, very good durability.
Cons: None yet
Best Bat Tarek Emara player
Pros: This has been the best bat for me (13u travel ball) that i have ever used. this bat has extreme pop and i would recommend this bat before any other to any ball player.
Cons: Ive heard it gets dented easily from some people but i havent had that problem through my forst 5 months with it. only thing the grip has got ripped up and i meed to get a new lizard skin but nothing affecting the performance.
Dinger bat Elma Stanton parent
Pros: My sons had 49home runs this year with the bat
Cons: None
Great tool for the youth slugger! Southside Shockers! coach
Pros: Good balance. Sold feel. No sting. Beautiful looking bat. My son has had great results. Two over the fence home runs in 3 games.
Cons: None so far.
Poor Quality LW parent
Pros: When it was working correctly, the bat had a nice pop to it. My son really liked it until the dents and dead spots happened and the handle fell off.
Cons: We've sent this bat back 3 times for warranty issues. It dents very easily. One bat dented on the first day of use. When it does dent, the "sweet spot" is considerably altered. You have to send it back to Louisville and it takes approximately a month to get a different bat. The experience with their customer service is very frustrating.
Really like it; hope it holds up Buffafam25 parent
Pros: My son plays 10u and really likes this bat. It has great pop, large sweet spot and very minimal vibration. He was hitting singles with his old bat, and we could tell the ball exit speed was an issue, but not with this bat. He is now hitting over the fence, ground rule doubles, triples, etc. This is really an outstanding bat.
Cons: There are a lot of quality comments about the bat, specifically dents. We have not had an issue with dents however, we use a sleeve for batting cages and/or we use an old bat. The issue we had is that the knob broke off after his 2nd game. It was a straight break at the neck, like it was a weak spot and possibly just a fluke. Justbats replaced this for us and so far so good with the 2nd go round. I will post again if there are any more issues. I still would recommend the bat.
Team nicknamed it the "pretty bat"! Ryan parent
Pros: great pop. teammates started using it after homeruns were hit with it.
Cons: none yet.
Durability Issues!!!! Eric player
Pros: Good Pop
Cons: Terrible Durability. Dented in multiple spots after less than 1/2 of a season of kid pitch.
omaha 2017 ball parent parent
Pros: looks nice
Cons: bat dented twice. the 2nd time it dented,it had less than 10 hits.
Omaha 517 Kart parent
Pros: NONE - My 10 yr old couldn't use it long enough to have an opinion
Cons: My son plays very competitive baseball and this bat broke in the first 4 games used. (first tournament) Louisville Slugger did not stand behind the bat!! Bad quality.
SS Steve Schertel parent
Pros: Son is playing 8u and loved the bat once it arrived.
Cons: The knob flew off the bat in less than 20 swings. In all of my life, I have never seen a knob disconnect from a bat. He hit a ball off the barrel and and the KNOB flew off. How could this happen?
Bat review Blank player
Pros: The price is right for a young 8U player playing in competition. My son loved the way it was weighted. Said he was able to swing it well. It does have great pop when he got ahold of the ball.
Cons: The paint chips very very quickly. After half of a season and a few thousand balls in a cage it looks like he needs a new bat. Although I know its just the paint he doesnt get that they are not cracks. If he hit the ball wrong it did vibrate a lot. which in my opionion im fine with. They need to know when theyve made a mistake.

About the Brand
In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
